Hi Matt: I have a Beallara Pacific Pastel ‘Mauna Loa’ which is almost identical to yours, but the spots are smaller. Lovely oncidium and a very faithful bloomer for me. Grow On!!
Hi Matthew! The Beallara is beautiful! I just bought several in March from from Akatsuka Orchids in Hawaii. I believe your Beallara probably came from this Nursery because they are located near Hilo (said He-low) Hawaii and I believe they have named several orchids and used “Hilo” in the name. 😊
I have a Howards Dream that my husband chose at an orchid show we were at. I'm watching this video because I was suspicious that it needs more light. After watching this I need to move it to more light. It looks healthy but it's just not doing anything. Thanks for your videos, you have inspired me to go back to terracotta pots, which I like better than the clear plastic ones. My orchids just seem to do better in terracotta.
I love your video and found it very informative. I would suggest that mine is fragrant when it first blooms - it's smell is similar to a honeysuckle smell. It is my favorite orchid!!!
That one really is stunning! I have several oncidium type complex intergeneric hybrids, but I got them as small, seedling plugs...so I have to be patient...it will be a while until they bloom. A few are getting close. They are all getting new growths now and I'm hoping to get spikes this time around.
sooo beautiful!!. i have one also and i grow it exactly like you do, the first year i had a nice long spike with many blooms, the second year i had a shorter spike with 3 blooms, and this year i had a super short spike with only 2 small blooms. it hopefully will come around, or die off... one or the other. but i guess this is a part of orchid growing for beginners. Happy growing
Thanks for watching! Oh - interesting! Some plants definitely do have 'good' seasons and 'bad' ones! I hope yours decides to live its best life next season!
I have the same hybrid and it took a while for the fragrance to come out since I bought it in bloom. It has a very faint eucalyptus and cinnamon scent at around noon time!
Thanks for all your videos I was wondering if you could do a video of your growing area outside and the areas of morning and afternoon sun. might be helpful for others as well.
Pleasant video to watch, as usual thanks Matthew. Quick question, when you use the m.fungi can you actually see the growth of it? Does it spread around the media and look like Botrytis on the top?
Hi Carole, thanks for watching! As to M.fungi - no. Generally not visible on the surface as it attaches to the roots - but you do sometimes see it inside bags of potting mix on the surface when you open one . You may also see it on the bottom of the pot near the drainage holes - but it's a white colour rather than Botrytis grey. Even if you can see it, it is only beneficial and can't do any hard to the plant - you might not want to inhale it yourself though! It can increase the plants root system by 1000X! Amazing stuff really!
Hi there. I get mine on-line. Google 'mycorrhizal fungi' to find someone in your area selling it online - doesn't really matter the brand. Or you might find it in good nurserys/garden centres.
She is BEAUTIFUL!! 😍😍😍
Thanks for watching!! Isn't it!
Another great video! It's always nice to see a new video from you! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching!
You’ve convinced me to convert to terracotta pots. My orchids are so much happier.
Ha! It's not for everyone - depends on climate and many things, but I'm glad its working for you!
I wish my home were warmer so Incould use them.😕
I just received a Hilo space ship today from Carmela. It's beautiful ❤️
Lucky you being able to order from them!!!

Oh I just googled - yes so similar! I do find telling these hybrids apart a challenge! Does yours have a fragrance?
You definitely have the right touch with all your plant's, another gorgeous orchid or is it the magic tericota pots. Either way it's a joy to see.
Thanks for watching - maybe it IS the pots!!!

Hi Matt thank you for sharing that GORGEOUS orchid! 😍 Have a wonderful day stay safe and happy growing 😊 Reah

I’m so sad. I killed my Hilo spaceship and it had a beautiful sweet floral fragrance! 😢. Yours is beautiful !
Oh no! But I've killed a few Oncidiums...its just how it is! Forgive yourself and move on!!
Big fan of you channel, very helpful. Out of interest Hilo is pronounced hi: lou the same as the island in the Hawaian group.
Thank you - and thank you! Is that where the name comes from?

Well they are generally fast growers and quick to bloom so you might not have to be THAT patient!

Oh about 5-6 weeks.
