The Christmas armistice moment makes me tear up every time knowing that it’s based on an actual thing that happened in that war. It’s such an amazing if heartbreaking little piece of real history
Jenna was filmed in front of a green screen nowhere near the set as she was filming Queen Victoria at the time. Bringing back companions is a decades old tradition.
Great work my friend. I miss Peter Capaldi. He is my Doctor. He is a really good person. If you haven't checked him out on RUclips you should see how great he is with fans of the show. He appears in wedding videos, consoles children on the loss of loved ones and is generally as kind as you would expect 12 to be. What a joy to see him be great in the role he was born to play!
@@theabomination5894 That one got the edge for me, too. Smith was the only one, that fit the fairytale vibe of the episode, they really nailed the re-interpretation of the three ghosts, Dumbledore was amazing, and Abigail's Song is up there with my favorite music pieces of the show. We had a lot of episodes happening on Christmas, but ACC excels at getting you in the mood for the holidays :)
such a wonderfully written, performed and executed episode - and a beautiful farewell to a great doctor. the idea of bringing mr david bradley back in his extraordinary incarnation of the first - and original, of course - doctor was truly inspired. for devotees of our beloved time-traveller there are so many fond farewells here - not only sir peter but sir steven of moffat, sir murray of gold and ms rachel talalay the episode's director - the end of an era.
I don't think the show will make it to an anniversary with the way she screwed it up there is nowhere to go. Only hope is a retcon and Capaldi regenerates again with a new show runner.
Cry every damn time. You woud think I'd become emotionally immune at some point. Nope. "Always try to be nice but never fail to be kind." - The whole speech. It's something the world really needs right now.
I’ve been waiting for this! This episode is also the end of Murray Gold as composer who has been writing the music since Christopher Eccleston. That’s why he re-uses a lot of old themes from the Tennant era. It really does feel like the end of an era.
I got back into dr who with Capaldi and he'll always be my doctor. I met him at FanExpo and he's the sweetest person. I look forward to your reactions to Jodie!
When Capaldi played the doctor I thought he was okay just a bit old and boring but now I look back on him and omg he’s like a lonely Legend Doctor and such a cool badass.
Fun fact. Clara was supposed to be in the full episode instead of Bill. But due to Jennas schedule she couldn’t commit to it, so she just phoned in with a green screen.
I think you'd really like "The Tenth Planet" (Hartnell's last story). Unfortunately only the soundtrack of the final ep exists, so video releases have presented it with tele snaps or animation. Luckily the regeneration sequence has survived - and it's beautiful. Also, I'll hold your hand through what's coming, bruv.
“Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.” I swear, this line changed my brain chemistry in a way that’ll stick with me forever. I love it so so much. The delivery, the writing, I don’t even care how drawn out the whole thing is, it’s just got so much good in it.
This is probably my favourite regeneration episode. God I miss Capaldi and Moffat. They were the best for me. There's so many things in this episode that goes over people's heads!
Great reaction, CAPALDIs pre regeneration speech was written and delivered brilliantly, goodbye best Doctor ever, this is my favorite Christmas special easily
The score this episode was a send-off to Murray Gold, who had written the score since Series 1 in 2005. Some of his hest tracks were there, including the 9th, 10th, and 11th Doctor's themes, Clara's theme, Vale, and The Shepherd's Boy
Capaldi had a lot of hate thrown at him and honestly he was an underrated Doctor. If people hadn’t been so harsh I wonder if he’d have been down for another season. Good luck with 13. As a doctor she’s just fine but the rest leaves a lot to be desired
He was definitely not underrated. In fact I hardly saw any hate towards capaldi during his run. Most people when a doctor regenerates hate that doctor until the end.
He was very much THEE doctor, he fit the doctor role so well, instantly you could see he was the doctor in tone and the calibre of actor to both classic and modern who... But his issues were in story, they just didn't work out script wise (with a few exceptions) and it impacts his portrayal in long term.. but cos he is such a good actor he pushed alot of bad scripts along and made what he could work.. however contrast this with current who, we are seeing a perfect storm of bad everything, Jodie doesn't fit the role, very mis casted, no real depth, very agenda driven and eye rolling, she can't carry the bad stories like capaldi, and the series is suffering as a result.. plus the really bad direction it is going in.. I miss the days of season 4/season 5.. brilliant / creative and relevant..
Just came here from a regeneration scene compilation, and I'm so glad the first thing you mentioned was Jodie's appearance from Black Mirror when the camera panned up to show her face.
Capaldi's final lines were so incredibly meta as he was saying goodbye to the role he had spent his entire life persuing and at the same time telling Jodi and all future doctors what the most important things are.
Originally the Doctor was meant to regenerate at the end of the previous story but the new show runnwr had no Christmas special ready with 13 and Moffat wrote this to keep the tradition going. But we haven't had one since.
@@michaelkenner3289 not exactly. We got one. We didn't get a seasonal special at all over the "holidays" for 2019/2020. We will get one this Christmas/New Year's. Then we are entering into the Corvideo zone.

Watching this episode in local cinema with others was a great joy. A lot of laughs at the jokes at the right time and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Whovians reunited and having a good time. What more can one wish for?
The Christmas truce of 1914 is my favorite history story. I'm so glad they were able to address it in the show. So few people know about that amazing day
I have to say, I am genuinely loving how you're obviously watching Who completely cold, and somehow managing to avoid all the stuff like knowing the end-twist of this. That must take one Hell of a lot of Spoiler-avoiding discipline.
I do want to point out my one criticism of the writting for the episode, that the first Doctor/William Hartnell wasnt portrayed as a sexist or anything like the jokes made in this episode it was a choice made to bring out humor but i don't recall any line the first doctor made that would be taken as sexist or anything like that he did use the line on the smack bottom for Susan but that was different context and it was his granddaughter
Exactly, also Moffat disliked his entire era. He wasn't exactly going to be objective when portraying the 1st Doctor. What makes it even worse is the beginning where it transitions from original footage (from The Tenth Planet) to a recreation; giving a false authenticity to his episode.
I was crying at Capaldi’s speech at the end. I always cry when the Doctor regenerates. It’s always so sad and hard but also a good reminder that you have to move on. I’m curious about his reaction to season 11 and 12 since both seasons have caused a lot of controversy amongst their audiences
“Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind. Doctor, I let you go.” capaldi and moffat’s final love letter to the show, this episode never fails to bring me to tears. it’s like the emotional epilogue to the big finale of WEAT/TDF, giving 12 the closure he needed and absolutely deserved. so many things come full circle, regardless of my opinion on the current era i believe this could have ended the whole show. beautifully poetic, a lovely, subtle sendoff about 12’s character development and suicidal tendencies, which isn’t spoken about enough. the final scenes on the battlefield wrap up his era and character perfectly, as the man who hated soldiers now alone on an empty battlefield. the fact he gets his memories of clara back is everything and his regeneration speech is pitch perfect, i’ll never let 12 go. he really had such a complex and beautiful character arc, you can really see how far he has come here. 12 is and always will be my doctor
IIRC This happened coz peter and Steven were at a convention and someone asked Steven which doctor he would like to have written, Stephen said “the first doctor but obviously William Hartnell isn’t alive” and Peter said “you could use David Bradley” and a great episode was born...
For me the highlight of the episode was discovering that the soldier was the father of brigadier lethbridge-stewart and the grandfather of Kate Stewart although for some reason that seem to pass you by.
I loved that part too. Cause I always wondered how his family met him and was connected. They made comments to it but to see it and to be surprised by it was awesome!
Not to be picky but it’s too early to be his father as this was the First World War (1914). If we’re saying the Brig is the same age as his actor Nicholas Courtney (1929) he wouldn’t have been born yet so one of the Captain’s sons is his father therefore it’s the Brig’s grandfather and Kate’s great grandfather. However the sentiment is still there, with a name that the Doctor will definitely look out for and will become one of his closest friends.❤️
This is my first day on your channel and I love these! I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Tennant and Smith both star as The Doctor in a story each from The Sarah Jane Adventures spin off series and Capaldi is in the first episode of Class. You might want to check them out :)
I read somewhere the line about Children who can hear the Doctors name was something Peter Capaldi actually said to a child at some point in his run. Which I thought was pretty cool.
'And his memory got bopped' 😭😭 I still wish 9 had 1 more season! The difference is in how many seasons the Doctor gets for you to fall in love with him.
The Doctor mentioned back in The Doctor's Wife that the Corsair changed genders during at least a few of their regenerations. That may have been the first time it was made canon that Time Lords aren't locked into being the same gender for all of their regenerations.
12 at the start: "I don't think I'm a hugging person anymore."
12 in the end: "Cuddle."
Yeah, I noticed that this time :)
And when they were teleported away, he looked like a kicked puppy.

Saddest scene was when the ring dropped because that’s when you know twelves gone for good
And now we non patreon fans must wait to see how he reacted to Jodie’s first full episode.
And s11 and 12 in general, I'm very excited for some episodes!
@@sonnykingcomposer God, considering how he reacted to Bill's end, Haunting of Villa Diodati is going to be BRUTAL.
@@aaaa-eb6pi oooh yeah
@Gues Who im certainly not sticking around, maybe for the first ep or 2, but it never changes its just bad all the way, then of course falls of a cliff in that final episode
Can't wait for him to react to series 11 there are some great episodes coming up and then it gets even better in series 12.
I love the part about children being capable of hearing the Doctor’s name.
i love that this episode isn't some grand adventure, it's just a nice epilogue
I’m always amazed how they managed to get such a light-hearted episode out of the central concept of two men being suicidal.
i think about this all the time honestly, it’s really very nicely done
*one man, twice
"one more regeneration won't kill anyone" ...
that's debatable ...
I feel that overall, Capaldi's Christmas Specials were better than Tennent's or Smith's.
I totally agree.
A Christmas carol was amazing to me
Totally agree. The others had maybe one good X-mas episode apiece. Capaldi had four great ones.
@@theabomination5894 It was Smith's best one. The Snowman was pretty good. Time of the Doctor SUCKS except the regeneration.
It still destroys me every time when Clara shows up.
One last 'It's me, Nardy!'..
such a wonderfully written, performed and executed episode - and a beautiful farewell to a great doctor. the idea of bringing mr david bradley back in his extraordinary incarnation of the first - and original, of course - doctor was truly inspired. for devotees of our beloved time-traveller there are so many fond farewells here - not only sir peter but sir steven of moffat, sir murray of gold and ms rachel talalay the episode's director - the end of an era.
The regeneration is one of my favourite scenes, the speech and score are so good!
Also it’s the end of the Moffat Era Who has been showrunner since Series 5. So Series 11 feels very different.
I REALLY do not like season 11 and 12
Calpaldi was my Doctor. He was the reason I got into Who. Hopefully he comes back in an anniversary episode.
I don't think the show will make it to an anniversary with the way she screwed it up there is nowhere to go. Only hope is a retcon and Capaldi regenerates again with a new show runner.
A real rollercoaster of emotions.
The doctors face when he sees and remembers Clara is everything 🥺 you can just see how much Clara means to him 🖤 I miss them.
i love how he gets that big smile just for clara, i miss those two endlessly
Capaldi is an incredible actor, I love his performance in this
Cry every damn time.
Last episodes- the master and missy. This episode- the two doctors 🤔🤔🤔 I'm sensing a pattern here 🤔🤔
Bye-bye to my favourite Doctor.
Murray Gold: Greatest Hits alongside Moffat/Capaldi's Love Letter the show. I love this episode even though I lost my favourite Doctor.
The dvd is now available with an animated fourth episode.
It would be nice if they could film some stuff with David Bradley to fill in the missing video
“Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.”
I swear, this line changed my brain chemistry in a way that’ll stick with me forever. I love it so so much. The delivery, the writing, I don’t even care how drawn out the whole thing is, it’s just got so much good in it.
I’m pretty sure the recording crew only had like 20 minutes to record capaldi’s last scene
This is probably my favourite regeneration episode. God I miss Capaldi and Moffat. They were the best for me. There's so many things in this episode that goes over people's heads!
This episode still makes me so emotional.
Oof Boi how what looks?
Just came here from a regeneration scene compilation, and I'm so glad the first thing you mentioned was Jodie's appearance from Black Mirror when the camera panned up to show her face.
the way this episode made me cry when I first watched and the way it still makes me tear up ahh I love Capaldi 🥺
Failwhale happening to have been wearing a War Doctor shirt is just... so perfect.
3:12 "i wish i watched that episide" man so do i lol we all wish we could
Capaldi's final lines were so incredibly meta as he was saying goodbye to the role he had spent his entire life persuing and at the same time telling Jodi and all future doctors what the most important things are.
Originally the Doctor was meant to regenerate at the end of the previous story but the new show runnwr had no Christmas special ready with 13 and Moffat wrote this to keep the tradition going. But we haven't had one since.
They switched to New Year specials instead after this.
@@michaelkenner3289 not exactly. We got one. We didn't get a seasonal special at all over the "holidays" for 2019/2020. We will get one this Christmas/New Year's. Then we are entering into the Corvideo zone.
Thanks so much Fairwhale for the fun WHO reactions. Been with you since S1E3 and have enjoyed every moment. Look forward to seeing you wirh future reactions to new stuff.
Watching this episode in local cinema with others was a great joy. A lot of laughs at the jokes at the right time and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Whovians reunited and having a good time. What more can one wish for?
You are a joy to watch. To see someone else have the same responses to one of my favorite episodes is a powerful thing.
The Christmas truce of 1914 is my favorite history story. I'm so glad they were able to address it in the show. So few people know about that amazing day
13 undeniably lives up to 12's final words. That is in no doubt.
I have to say, I am genuinely loving how you're obviously watching Who completely cold, and somehow managing to avoid all the stuff like knowing the end-twist of this. That must take one Hell of a lot of Spoiler-avoiding discipline.
A wonderful reaction to a very sweet episode. The 12th Doctor was one of the best. Capaldi is a brilliant actor!
I loved series 10. I so wanted another year with that TARDIS team. Capaldi was my doctor. ❤
I was crying at Capaldi’s speech at the end. I always cry when the Doctor regenerates. It’s always so sad and hard but also a good reminder that you have to move on. I’m curious about his reaction to season 11 and 12 since both seasons have caused a lot of controversy amongst their audiences
It makes my heart and soul smile watching your reactions to my favourite ever show. I too still laugh and cry in all those places... and Im 51 ;-)
Did you notice the Brit soldier was the Brigadeer's father and Kate's grandfather?
And thus exits my favorite doctor with one of my favorite speeches of all time.
Laugh Hard
Run Fast
Be Kind
I will never let this doctor go
CAPALDI WAS THE BEST DOCTOR AND GONNA MISS FOREVER ♥️
“Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind.
Doctor, I let you go.”
capaldi and moffat’s final love letter to the show, this episode never fails to bring me to tears. it’s like the emotional epilogue to the big finale of WEAT/TDF, giving 12 the closure he needed and absolutely deserved. so many things come full circle, regardless of my opinion on the current era i believe this could have ended the whole show. beautifully poetic, a lovely, subtle sendoff about 12’s character development and suicidal tendencies, which isn’t spoken about enough. the final scenes on the battlefield wrap up his era and character perfectly, as the man who hated soldiers now alone on an empty battlefield. the fact he gets his memories of clara back is everything and his regeneration speech is pitch perfect, i’ll never let 12 go. he really had such a complex and beautiful character arc, you can really see how far he has come here. 12 is and always will be my doctor
Love the way the cat is just sitting there😂…and?
IIRC This happened coz peter and Steven were at a convention and someone asked Steven which doctor he would like to have written, Stephen said “the first doctor but obviously William Hartnell isn’t alive” and Peter said “you could use David Bradley” and a great episode was born...
Finally made it here I’ve watched from the start to here 6 days straight loves the reactions all the way
The reaction we were all waiting for. It is *here!*
@@emaloney2211 Why would u assume the actor is supposed to be the same age as the character in Who? That's rarely the case in most shows.
This is my first day on your channel and I love these! I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Tennant and Smith both star as The Doctor in a story each from The Sarah Jane Adventures spin off series and Capaldi is in the first episode of Class. You might want to check them out :)
loved the episode! was an amazing ride!
Capaldi always had the best speeches:(((((
I read somewhere the line about Children who can hear the Doctors name was something Peter Capaldi actually said to a child at some point in his run.
David Bradley was a villain on the ship with the dinosaurs, now taking on William H's doctor
