Thank you all so much for the support, I really appreciate every single one of you!
Until next time, peace!
it keeps me up at night that 12’s shredded final outfit is still at that charity shop in Sheffield...
I've just decided to comfort myself and think about how well Big Finish will eventually write her.
yeah lol
And this is when we are all gonna miss Murray Gold
I don't!
@@achinton 😭
Goodbye Murray Gold, but ngl S12E1's score was a banger
I like Jodie's Doctor, but (no offense to the new composer), I really missed Murray Gold.
Toby W. Yes It’s what made me hope that we would get a better soundtrack for series 12. Unfortunately we didn’t.
"this doesn't feel like Who at all!" ....oh sweet summer child.
I think to some extent its actually trying to take Who back to its roots this season, with the companion ensemble and everything, and some of the later stories. So yeah, it feels different than the rest of New Who. Also yeah, I guess the feel of the cinematography is a bit different, and the change in composer makes it feel off till you get used to it.
@@antonbrakhage490 the show sucks from this point on. The ruined a great show with bullshit
It was pretty obvious the show was doomed when they announced Chibnal and his lackeys. The creators of Broadchurch, a cinematic TV drama.
They ruined the Sci-fi show to make it too much like their old high-production comfort zone.
Along with the obsession with diversity and social politics, it was enough to ruin everything good about what it used to be.
@@MrMadshepherd Completely agree.
@@MrMadshepherd Wait I understand the writing could be better even though I did enjoy some epsiodes from s11-S12 but I'm lost on the diversity and social politics part.
This was a promising start honestly but I started to get really disappointed as the series went on. Series 12 was definitely an improvement.
And then the timeless child happened...
@@DoubleDHarvey jajajaja true
@@DoubleDHarvey agreed
12 is an improvement not by much still terrible but an improvement non the less
Series 11 is the worst season and season 12 is the second worst
"This was an okay premiere." Pretty much the mood for the entire series. Very 'okay.'
The same can be said for most of series 12 except for *the timeless child ark,* thats pure BS
@@bruhhh5557 As a Trek fan who's witnessing the crumbling of his beloved franchise, I understand your feelings. But much like The Last Jedi, I'm waiting to see what is done with that before I cast final judgement on the Timeless Child. I did feel S12 was a step up from 11, but because I'm not as connected to the franchise, I'm not as devestated/angry about that as other fans or as I am with nuTrek.
@@bustedsim ikr, the new star trek has been pure shit, Picard was awful and he wasn't even the main character, discovery was shit although I am looking forward to seeing the crew 950 years in the future, and dont even get me started on lower decks 🤦♂️
@@bruhhh5557 I watched three seasons of nuTrek. I felt that was enough to show a clear lack of improvement. I'm no longer watching it.
@@bruhhh5557 I really liked it
Whatever else is said of S11, it certainly looks stunning throughout. Personally, despite being very much an old-time Who fan from all the way back to 63, I thought Jodie really slotted into the role very well (although I suspect I'll be in a minority amongst commenters).
The story was workmanlike rather than spectacular but did what was needed to at least sketch in the ongoing characters. Bradley Walsh (Graham) was the stand out performance, and certainly shut down the critics who had questioned the casting of a performer best known as a game show host.
Paul Morris Spot on.
It's a reflection of how bad the other companions are when the game show host is the one that shines....
@@space1999 Bradley Walsh is a good actor. Those who saw him holding down the lead in _Law and Order UK_ would not have been surprised at his performance. The real weak link in the chain, for me, is Toisin Cole who never seems to rise above wooden in his line readings.
@Marcus Smith less of a problem.... some of the issues are with bbc policies rather than chinball
@Marcus Smith Sadly, I suspect that whomever had written and produced this Series, a small but vocal minority would have rejected out of hand the inclusion of a female Doctor #Notmydoctor!
I think it would be really cool to see you watch Sarah Jane Smith adventures although it was aimed at kids it was still really good and it has some recurring villains from the main series
He should! If I may ask, what was your favourite episode? Mine were the two featuring Androvax.
Better than series 11 an 12
@@jeaddhist Ooo yeah definitely. I loved S3 as a whole.
I agree
Series 3 and 4 really picked up, quality writing and enjoyable stories.
This is the start of a brand new showrunner so it’s very different. I like Jodie but I’m personally not a fan of the writing.
Y’all gotta give him some credit, if he hates it at all, he’ll hate the writing and be kind about it. 💓
@@HudsonMedia You hit the nail right on the head there. I can't go anywhere without being slated for stating my opinion on why I dislike this series and the current Doctor. People calling me out for being a sexist bigot, racist and homophobe and whatever other term they can think of, simply because I stated an opinion.. it's truly sad how sensitive people have become to differing opinions these days. But hey, that's just how people are these days I guess.
@@HudsonMedia I didn't get time to like Jo's performance because I was so aghast that they'd retconned the origins of the Doctor by making out she was an early incarnation.. It would have been fine if she was perhaps a later incarnation or even from a different universe perhaps but I feel they really messed up with that reveal.
Sacha was ok as the Master, but nothing to write home about imo. There were some nice call-backs to Delgado with the tissue compressor etc, but not much else of note. I almost feel like the black guy ( forget his name), would have done a better job perhaps. Might just be me but his way of a calm and calculated approach to the Doctor felt more menacing to me, rather than Sacha's overly dramatic and giddy introduction to his reveal of the Master.
@@HudsonMedia Lenny Henry, that's it.
I think it's not too hard to be better than Jodie Whitaker. John hurt, while having very limited screen time still acted every scene with conviction and skill. Jodie could be the Doctor for another 5 series and she wouldn't overtake him in the rankings. Just goes to show quality in acting over quantity in bad stories, eh? :)
At least we agree that the cannon is something to be despised then, that was one of my arguments. It's a shame because it deeply hampered my ability to enjoy her performance. Maybe If I gave it a re-watch I'd enjoy it, since the initial shock of the retcon has worn off.
The cinematography looks great, but the scripts were so poor this series was REAL struggle for me to get through. Good luck!
Oh god yeah. At the end of every episode, I was sweating from trying not to turn off the tv and throw my remote in disgust.
Gonna respectfully disagree. I enjoyed this season quite a bit. It ranks around season 2 and 9 on my list.
@@CyberController- I agree... While there wasn't any overarching theme and it had a couple bad episodes, this series actually looked and felt really good.
There were some interesting episodes, the ones that take place in the past were for the most part good. The ones which take place in the future was for the most part decent and the ones which takes place in the present were truly rubbish.

I definitely agree with you , this season was very jarring, I think they spent to much time crisping episodes and not enough time or money in the writing room.
We have reached this point, it has been a great ride. We had fun, we had a laugh, we joked, we were sad, we had epicness (which is now a new word I created :)) We have even cried along the way. Iv'e loved it all through the bad to the great. From now on the show falls off a cliff. I'm now crying for a different reason. Oh boy! how did it all go so wrong? "This doesn't feel like Who at all" you were right and no idea how right you were. Well at least your all caught up thats a positive. The sad thing is this episode started things off for the new era pretty well, shame it didn't last.
Cant believe you've had no responses telling u your in the minority (lol)or your sexist etc... I echo your view completely and have had some real ding dong battles with the woke brigade over it!! The more the ratings drop or the audience appreciation drops, the more they say it's the minority that dont like it... reminds me of the media in general... they have a view of things that's blinkered and not just a little liberal and presume everyone feels the same so when things like trump or boris get elected or brexit happens they walk around dazed not sure what happened...
That's your opinion, not facts.
I think it started to lose the "Who magic" in capaldi's era, the stories got worse but capaldi carried it. While i think jodie could have done a great job it felt like the show really lost *something*. I cant quite figure out what but you are right it doesnt feel like the show it once was

So do I but Segun Akinola is a worthy successor.
@@mh6944 Not a fan of his ambient style
@@mh6944 I agree. Gold was great, Akinola is good too, but different. He's less bombastic and in-your-face. I loved a lot of Gold's scores, but sometimes I felt I was being shouted at to "FEEL SAD NOW!". And I hated Capaldi's title theme. It really grates on me. I think Akinola has done a really good job with that.
Murray golds score literally kept 50 percent of the show together for me. I dont remeber anything about the new score at all.
My man is a Ben 10 fan? Respect.
New show runner, new cast, new crew, new score, new writers. Personally, I think they changed too much. But I do love the sequence where she builds the sonic.😊It's very Doctor.
It would have been good to keep Bill from Capaldi's era, at least. Going back to having a few companions like in the classic era is an interesting choice.
"Meow" DROP EVERYTHING AND LET KITTY IN
you need a recording sign on your door
I'm late, but I think the look with 12 you were talking about was actually a few separate layers. He wore a black crew neck jumper, distressed at the cuffs and neck, with small holes littered throughout and a white t shirt underneath, then over that he wore a thin wool hoodie, and finally over everything he wore a coat, either in wool or velvet.
"This doesn't feel like Who at all"... well I hope you got used to that feeling lmao
The cast for this series are decent but the writing was a let down.
Some of the cast are good like Bradley Walsh and Jodie Whittaker but the rest are sh1te
All the actors in Punjab were amazing
David King I wouldn’t say it’s too crowded as there’s been episodes with 3 companions before but I do feel like the characters aren’t very fleshed out really and it’s more them chiming in now and then for exposition, I also feel like Ryan is not great really out of the 3 and it might be his actor or how he’s been written but yeah
ApexArmy no they weren’t. Stop. This is like saying “The episode and story and everything has Shit but the HD is quality so defo 8/10”. No it was bad. Stop.
Dr D Jesus what did I say that offended you so much? All I said was I liked an aspect of an episode of a tv show and your coming at me like I started the halocast
I think a big problem with this introduction is that it's very plot-focused. Rose, Christmas Invasion, Eleventh Hour, and Deep Breath all spent a lot of time getting us familiar either with the new Doctor themselves or the companion. This episode, though, felt like non-stop story. You feel like there might be some character work and then BAM detective work, BAM DNA bombs, BAM DIY screwdriver, BAM crane fight.
It's also not really clear why 13 picks these people as her companions other than they were the first people she met and she had to save them. So much of the episode is 13 postulating about who she's going to be, what kind of person, and after 2 series it's still not clear. I mean, she puts the DNA bombs in Tim Shaw and actually detonates them, killing him for all she knows, and then has the audacity to say "you had no right to do that" when the guy kicks him off the crane. Like, what? I'm still so confused as to who 13 is, she talks about being compassionate and benevolent, but then she detonates DNA bombs inside someone, leaves spiders to suffocate instead of putting them down, has no problem with Ryan sending Krasko back to time to die, and tells her friends that she's their leader, standing far above them, alone. You might say this is development of a darker side, but when it doesn't have any repercussions, it just looks like bad writing. If it produced drama, friction between the TARDIS team, then go for it, I'd love to see a Doctor that projects an image of being super fun and friendly but slowly pushes her friends away with her questionable actions, but that isn't what's happening. She's perfect. Well, she's not, but they don't explore those faults, so she's basically perfect. 10 faced serious consequences for thinking he was infallible, but 13 can hand an Indian man over to the Nazis, among other serious mistakes, and it's never spoken about again. It's so odd.
Yes, this. Although I think most Doctors have had dark sides and made wrong choices, the narrative stands behind hers more. It's odd.
I'm in the minority but loved the premiere and this doctor! Jodie is a absolute treasure!
Agreed, I loved Jodie's Doctor too!

@@oddjob5589 we can make it clear that we're displeased without dragging them down 🤷♀️
Season 11 has some excellent episodes, the issue that most have is that there isn't some overarching, or even familiar, villain. We don't have the daleks or cybermen, there isn't the Master, Zygons or Angels. Every villain that we come across is new, which is kind of weird to Whovians, who are used to at least a little familiarity. We've had some sort of overarching theme for so long (ie. The Girl Who Waited, The Impossible Girl, Missy, etc) that now that there is none of that. In this season the only overarching 'bad guy' is a theme, as opposed to someone we can picture, it is Hatred. Tim Shaw is a bad guy for being a bad guys sake, but throughout the season you truly see Hate as the one constant that keeps coming up.
Well... Tim Shaw's race are kinda bigged up a bit in the next episode and maybe that comes up again later, but I suppose it's not as big a deal as things have been before...
But in the end, I feel a bigger issue is the characters (and villains) not having enough room to breathe... We have a lot of them and none returning, except the Doctor, although this is also a new version of the Doctor too, with fewer episodes to do anything in... I would personally suggest more multi-part stories, maybe even have the whole thing being one serialised story. Giving everything room to breathe...
That would be my choice anyway... And maybe not have Chibnall write so many episodes lol His were probably most of the weakest... Then again, maybe his strength would be in multi-part episodes... I dunno.
@@KitsyX But the stenza are mentioned once in 8 episodes. Not what I'd call a series arc.
This is the point I was going to make, but I'd go further. Other than the Doctor herself, during the whole of Season 11 the only link to the show as it existed pre-Chibnall seems to be the Tardis. I can't blame a new supremo for cutting ties with the past, but I felt he went too far.
True but also even the baddies are just not really that bad or when they are they r badly written... fabric strips in this one, a token racist in another... a plastic frog on another (that turns out not bad) a little toy thing in another... incomparable to brand new baddies under other show runners (ood, Angel's, family of blood, silence... the list goes on..)

Series 11 is different from what we’ve seen before. It’s still very much trying to find its voice but I wouldn’t say it’s bad. It’s still very enjoyable
i’ve sort of came to the conclusion that most people who don’t enjoy s11 let alone Jodie’s whole run, simply were just not allowing themselves too. I’m only saying this because i came into s11 with a really negative mindset because of the hate Chibnall was getting online, and therefor decided to hate the series. It took until recently when i finally rewatched Jodie’s whole run, without the view of “oh this is different..” and instead with the view of, “oh this is different!”. Peoples opinions on the era are obviously not going to be same as everyone else’s, but once i stepped back and accepted that the changes being made to the show are fairly similar to the changes from classic who to the beginning of nuwho in 2005, i was able to accept and enjoy it much more.
ive come to this realization lately to stop letting other peopelk decide what I should hate. So im going to watch Jodie's seasons whenever I figure out how to. @@asteronii
I have my issues with the next two series of the show, but I think this is a pretty solid start to the new era, and a fairly good introduction for Jodie Whittaker.

I’m revisiting this after a few years, I am really enjoying it.
Series 11 is a lot better on rewatch, this is also the nuwho season that’s most like classic who!
I agree, the Doctor is very much scaled back from the universally-known 'Oncoming Storm' to the decent amateur who happens along in time of need to fix things up. I rather enjoyed this having rather wearied of the increasingly grandiose Doctor of the Moffat era. The deliberate absence of a strong series arc also chimes with most classic seasons (I'm not forgetting 'The Key to Time' or 'Trial of a Time Lord') which were far more episodic in nature.

He rarely says he doesn't like an episode cause most who episodes (at least to me and lots of others) are pretty good up until 13, so yeah, curious what he'll think
Maybe it's because it isn't a bad season despite what the 'fans' try and argue. It's actually closer to the original series than it has been for a long time.
Your reaction and the cover photo on this video is exactly the same as ours! S11 is visually stunning but boring, S12 gets a bit better but the writing still struggles. Jodie is a great doctor but the writing lets it down. And as for the music, it’s such a drastic change from Epic big orchestra s1-s10 to a few instruments playing quietly in the background which is so hard to get used to!
I was actually pretty excited the first time I saw this episode but now I'm seeing it again it just feels... awkward? Why does Ryan say he'll "search for weird stuff on social media"? Chibnall just seems unable to write natural dialogue and when it's being delivered by a character as wooden as Ryan it's really not great. Sigh. I SO wanted to love this era :/

What kids do you know that actually use the phrase "social media"?
Why does Ryan being a RUclipsr never come up? Id have expected him to be recording his trips or something, at the end of the episode that could be a cool way of explaining stuff to younger viewers without it just being straight exposition ruining the tension in scenes

The truth is that Peter Capaldi's era was not the most popular, I loved him (he is my 2and favourite doctor of new who) so just like they did with number 7, the show goes in a very different direction
I honestly think, if they had never made season 1-10 and this was presented as a the new show after old who people would have been loving it for its fresh take. The issue is it was such a shake up from the past 10 seasons.
I think It was in peters era where it started to lose its magic, however it wasnt as noticeable since Peter carried it with his doctor. So many average episodes. I dont think jodie was terrible but she wasnt incredible enough to mask the dreadful plots.

Did you see Georgia Tennant's comment about that episode? So sweet. Something like, "My daughter hasn't cried that hard since she watched her dad turn into Matt Smith." David has talked about how much she cried at that episode. Like for hours....
As some other people have said earlier, this season is far from being the best one, but it still got more shit than necessary. Let's just all be respectful and make sure our criticism is constructive always. Chibnall isn't the best showrunner in DW but he was responsible for some other amazing shows like Broadchurch. He does a great job, just not with every type of show. Jodie is a great actress and it's definitely not her fault the season wasn't the best too, she did her best. If you don't like the season or Jodie as the Doctor, don't ruin it for him. It's not nice to read all those comments.
Well, I'd argue it was partially Jodie's fault... She could have brought a bit more oomph to the role than she did... Or maybe she just isn't great enough (although she's not that bad either)... But yeah, the writing and direction may have let her down too...
Personally, I think Chibnall could have done better if playing to his strengths more too, but maybe the producer wouldn't let him or something? With all these new characters and such, I think a longer form story or stories would have really helped...
In the end though, I do agree that this series probably got more shit than it deserved... I quite liked some of it... But yeah, It was also pretty weak, especially after some of the great stuff Capaldi did... Oh well...
@@KitsyX Have you seen any of Jodie's work besides DW? She's a fantastic actress and knows how to portray emotions in a way some other actors can't. For example, her performance in Broadchurch was outstanding. It's not her fault, she can't magically make the writing perfect just by acting. She obviously did her best, but when the writing doesn't do her any justice, there's not much she can do.
I loved this episode, i watched it in the cinema :D

Despite being British, and thus exposed to the delights of the Hershey's Kiss only through the medium of video, that was also my first thought.
Yeah that was my first thought way back in 2018
@@MrPaulMorris I'm sorry, but no. It looks like Mr. Poo. Check out the picture here www.consignmenter.com/home/pillow-mr-poo-several-designs--two-poo-sizes--free-shipping-/
Yeah, there's a couple really good episodes in season 11 but overall it's underwhelming. It's watching a group of characters you really love on adventures you couldn't give a shit about.
Season 12 is a big improvement though, genuinely really good.
I’ll say this now... I really like Jodie’s version of the Doctor, early on really enjoyed how she plays the character... I am not a fan of the majority of stories and paths they’ve taken with her... just personally feel like the stories aren’t as great quality which is a shame
She lacks in terms of presence a little... Which is made even more apparent having just followed off from Capaldi... That said, she's not that bad either... She definitely had/has potential... But yeah, I'd say they made some bad decisions with the structure, stories and characters, which lead to a couple of poor seasons...
Personally, I think some of it could have worked... An interesting change would have been to go back to serialised stories... That would have given room to grow all of the main characters and fewer villains would give them a chance to be developed too, even with fewer episodes... Might even play more to Chibnall's strengths as a writer too.
I thinks she’s done well with what’s she’s been given and that’s she not too bad but at the same time I feel like for me she’ll be one of the few doctors who I’ll be excited to see who replaces her
To me Jodie captures the manic moments that were so crucial to 11. The let down for most people is the writing, personally I don't have issues. But I can see where others have issues
Super interesting era. There is some absolutely brilliant episodes imo, and s12 was really great.
i consider s11 one of my favourites. it is really lighthearted in comparison with other seasons and it always make me smile after a rough day!! one thing's for sure!! dont expect anything you've seen before on capaldi's era. jodie's doctor doesn't really stick out for her speeches but for her dynamic and silly attitude imo. love her doctor dearly!!
I loved your reaction to the newer, more-4K/Ultra-HD cinematography of this season. It's definitely something which stands out and is so beautiful to look at. I won't spoil anything but I think another thing which stands out is how amazing Bradley Walsh is as Graham. He's probably not as well-known where you are, but over here in England, he's mainly known as a comedian and game show host (although he has had various serious drama roles too!). I was really blown away by how good and how powerful his acting is in this show. He's nearly brought me to tears loads of times. As you said, he's very like Wilf in how he's a lot older than the usual companions we get. Finally, I don't know if you noticed but there wasn't an opening title sequence for this episode. You've still got that to look forward to. I agree that Segun Akinola, the composer, is a lot different in style to Murray Gold, but he still has a few great pieces of music over time.
25:28 David Tennant talked with Jodie about the doctor before started filming season 11
Welcome to the new doctor
Love series 11 one of my favorites
1:03 why so intense 😂
Personally, after two years, I'm still waiting for the "she's now the Doctor" moment, and for Yaz and Ryan to develop personalities, but I think there are some who like this Chibnall era thing. so you may be one of them.
I like it more than most but I still think the writing is lacking and Jodie has done well with what she’s been given, I’m fairly certain after the next special it’ll be just The Doctor and Yaz for the next series which I think will be beneficial for the show although I prefer Graham out of the three
For me, it already happened in series 12.
Haunting of Villa Diodati did a lot of great stuff with 13 for me; if we can get more episodes like that next series she'd definitely feel 'like the Doctor' as well as her predecessors.
If you watch my reaction to the 1st episode, I was really excited too.
Then as things went on, I lost more and more faith.
Gotta hand it to the visuals in this- it's all really pretty. The opening scene with the Bike is *chefs kiss*!
I honestly didn’t love season 11, I’m curious to see what you think of it🙂.
Season 11 was great.. what relevance does that have to this episode?
Going from the subtlety and range of Capaldi, to the endless gurning of Whittaker is such a jarring experience.
Torchwood when?
React to some of the classics with multiple doctors
Who is your favorite doctor?
Ryan sinclaire DONT YOU DARE
It looks like a giant Hershey kiss ( Easter edition)
I think Jodie does a great job as the Doctor, and she keeps getting stronger in the role as the series continues. Just wish she had a better slate of stories, cause the writing is weak for the most part (with a few very standout exceptions).
The moral of this new era, looks are the best Who has ever been, but characters and storylines are the worst Who has ever been.
So true!
Have you ever noticed that correlation? It seems like whenever a series gets a serious budget boost the visuals skyrocket and the writing falls apart. The new Star Trek looks gorgeous but the stories are terrible.
Really? This is worst than the 6th Doctor's first episode, where he tried to murder his companion?
@@kw7378a1 yeah post regenerative stress, what they did with 6 was great, and showing how he matured and calmed down as the show went on. Whitaker is just bland throughout, no range in acting at all
Smol Bear ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ Did you see her performance on Broadchurch? She's a good actress. If you don't like it, fine, but no need to pretend it's anything more than personal taste.
Jodie is great - you almost can't fucking say it these days, but she is. Yes, it's a change. 'Rose' was a change. It had never looked like that before either. I wonder what it will look like in another ten years - if any of us are still around...
The female doctor SHOULD have been Claudia Black (From Stargate SG1). SHE would have been PERFECT!!!
Admittedly, I actually know her from Dragon Age but from what I've seen of her as Morrigan, I would say she would be a good Doctor AND Master. Maybe even Rani.
Hmm. Just nipped over to some Stargate bloopers. She's pretty damn good!
Your comment implies there'll only ever be one.
We already had a perfectly good show with a "female doctor" done right. The Sarah Jane Adventures
@@morningcoffeecat2271 spot on
Oh yeah please do torchwood or adventures of Sarah Jane!!!!!!
When he said "character development". I laughed.
Welcome to the Chibnall Era. Let the pain begin. :(
I know a lot of people have issues with this series, and that's totally fair, it has it's issues, but after 6 series of Moffat I am just happy for a breath of fresh air
scared for these reactions but im ready for series 12 reactions omg
Why are you scared? It's a great season.
@@DerekHartley I thought it was decent and I really liked jodie in it but many people were turned off with how different it was and I'm kinda worried how future reactions might go
@@DerekHartley it's a shit season
@@dumbasstransgirllol46 In your personal opinion.
Seasons 11 and 12 aren't bad. They just aren't great either. At least, not in the sense that the previous seasons were.
The new composer uses a new deeper bass sound
Murray Gold is a fantastically creative composer. Segun Akinola makes noise
maybe after you're caught up you could listen to big finish you should do storm warning then chimes of midnight in my opinion
I hope you went into this blind and weren’t immediately introduced to her with a head already filled with other people’s viewpoints and backlash
You know how some people love to ruin it for everybody else.
