@@doggo9388 That’s probably my thoughts on RTD as a writer, some of his stuff is great but most is below average. The only Moffat episodes I don’t love are The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe and Let’s Kill Hitler.
@@nocturne8333 Same, Nocturne, in regards to RTD (and not just in Doctor Who -- I really struggle with enjoying his writing on other shows too 🤷♀️). His writing just mostly doesn't connect with me for whatever reason, but Moffat's? Loved nearly everything he wrote! Taste is always so interestingly subjective. 😀
ouch. Tennant was the doctor I grew up with, Smith was always on the TV on a sunday night and Capaldi felt like the first doctor I truly 'understood'. his final speech and the whole episode of Heaven Sent make him my favourite Doctor i think.
And so we come to the end of an era... talk about going out with a bang. This one didn't get me full-on ugly crying like 11's final episode, but it still packs a pretty hefty emotional punch. Capaldi's final speech is just beautiful and showcases his Doctor's emotional growth. Fantastic bit of writing and acting there. Now onto the next chapter... I'm curious to see what Paula thinks of Thirteen and Co.
24:13 Sums up my experience perfectly. I've gained a new appreciation for several stories by revisiting them with Paula and Katrina, and the same goes for the Classics I've rewatched with reactors like Medusa, Marie-Clare and Sesska. Thanks for the journey so far, Gals, and I'm excited to see what's to come!
I can't believe we made it! what a journey it has been, you might even say we came the long way round (ba dum tish) Here we are people and you know what's so moving about Capaldis time as the Doctor is that for me I don't feel he got the recognition he deserved at the time, I know I for one didn't enjoy his tenor as well as I have these past few re-watches and that is okay because what is not for me is meant for another. Laugh hard, run fast, Be kind, beautiful words to go out on - Thank you Kat and Paula for everything you were to me during Peters run and here is to a new era, love it or hate it I am here for it.
Paula called out the 'the internet is dramatic' statement before I could even scroll down to the comments :D :D :D I'm anxious to see Paula's take on Chib's era.
F**k me sideways with a sonic - Capaldi's farewell speech is just sublime. Just made me miss him more re-living with the Gals (thanks but also damn you to Trenzalore) 'Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind'. 😥😫😭
I loved the whole dynamic of the old doctor being very old school.. they didn't shy away from the racism or the misogyny prevalent of the time that was very much a part of the first ever season. And the doctor is just like.. "Look, i've grown as a person since then, and it's embarassing to see this side of me, lets just move on please" showing that everyone can change and grow
Saying goodbye to my Favorite Doctor ... while also seeing (a version) of the Doctor who I've been watching every month for my Podcast (Doctor Who's That?) for the last four years or so. With Hell Bent, World Enough and Time, and The Doctor Falls, he had three of my favorite episodes of all of television. I'm still missing Peter, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you all think of Jodie (I, for one like her quite a bit).
You are definitely right saying it's the end of an era . The acting in this was great , I can remember the very first episode , I was 8 years old and have watched it over the years with a few breaks and it was a great finale .
This was emotional because I adored Capaldi. He became my favorite during series nine and ten, but I will admit I cried the most when David Tennant left.
Capaldi quote "War doesn't decide whose right. It decides whose left" Good or Bad I just wish they'd make more Doctor Who content. It's sci fi. You can always fix what you don't like. But you got to keep making content man. For the last few years people have been worrying (some supporting) that the show will go on another hiatus for like 15 years. I'm kind of sad to think that what we have now might have to last us for the next decade or two for Who. They've certainly dragged their feet with the show for the last 3 years.
Peter Capaldi in my opinion is just the best I loved him so much he made me feel more than any other. I love Jodie as Doctor too it took me some time but she is great and really grew on me
It took me a long time, in fact years to realise at the ending of this episode that with the departure of Moffat alongside Capaldi we also the solemn departure of the brilliant musician Murray Gold who was providing music since the show reincarnated with Christopher Ecclestone back in 2005, in fact they played Ecclestone's 9th doctor theme when Capaldi transformed into Jodie. To this day I miss Murray Gold's music more than anything else
I just finished this on my doctor who journey. I started from the original. With the first doctor. Ending here was such an experience...and ill say. 12 telling 1 everything he was destined for and how important it was....that meant everything to me..and really showed 12 why he shouldnt die
Whilst I respect your opinion of Clara, I think it was important for 12 to get that final moment before he changed, he got his memories back, he was content in the end. 12 and Clara have always been my favourites, and for me it was important that 12 got to see the first face his face saw, much like 10 with Rose and 11 with Amy (I’m not the biggest Amy fan, but I understand how much that means to other people). Looking forward to seeing what you think of the upcoming era. It’s been very mixed for me, some very good moments, and some of the lowest moments of Who for me. I adore Jodie Whittaker though - and I was hoping it would be her who was cast as 13 back in 2017! I really do enjoy series 11, so I’m excited for your opinions
I really appreciate what you guys said at the end about giving it a chance. And I think you guys are right, I never really liked Star Trek, but watching your reactions to TNG warmed me up to it and now at the point where I'm almost done and thinking to myself "Do I go on to Deep space 9 or Voyager now.. 🤔" which I would have never thought possible. When it comes to Chibnall's era though, I think that the magnitude of the reaction is proportional to the level of respect that the producers and writers have shown the fandom and the source material. I think most of us were excited to see this new incarnation of the Doctor, but were disappointed from the writing, and when we expressed our critique were either ignored or patronized by "the powers that be" telling us that we are the ones that don't know what we're talking about. I have to be honest, the only reason I myself have gone past "seething rage" to quietly outraged, but able to watch reactors and reviewers is because I myself have stopped watching it, and it seems the rest of the world is finally catching up to what we fans have been saying all along. Yeah' I'll join along with you, and I even promise to be civil, but that's because I was _finally_ heard and am calm now.
The best Doctor and the best show-runner and background team as well wished we appreciated them more when they were here. Also the comment Katrina made about them all being different but the same is so important and on point
I always hear the line "Doctor, I let you go." in the voice of the Steven Moffat. There is a YT clip of Peter doing a live reading of the letter from the Officer in 1914 that wrote of these events to his wife. Grab another box of tissue.
And... A RUclips search for 'Doctor Who: First And Last Words For Each Doctor.' gives you everything to date. There's more than one and there's one for companions, too.
I know everyone has their own different favorite companions of all the ones they've seen, but, given how much personal trauma, healing, and growth/evolution the Doctor has been through since the Time War, which is pretty much the start of Modern Who, Rose and Clara probably played the most significant roles in the Doctor's healing through his own PTSD.
I definitely choose to believe that the part of 12's goodbye speech where he was talking about children hearing his name was Capaldi saying goodbye to the character because of how important it was to him as a kid.
I will never for the life of me understand the female fan hate for Clara. She stayed no longer than Amy or Rose did and was no more guilty of shitty behavior than either.
If you ever decide to watch any of the Classic Doctor Who stories as a break from New Who, I highly recommend the 5th Doctor Story 'Resurrection of the Daleks' and the 7th Doctor story 'Rememberance of the Daleks'. I always enjoy your reactions, keep up the good work 👍👏. All the very best, Trev from East London UK.

Hi there I've watched your reaction show from the start and I've totally enjoyed it ! I came upon your site just by chance and I find you both amazing young ladies. Anyhow this is the end of the journey for me as I can't relate to the new Dr one bit. I hope you enjoy it more than me . Bye its been a real fun 4 years ....and thank you...😊
It would be interesting to see Paula react to a super cut of regenerations. Some are far less dramatic. Speaking as a huge fan of Clara and Moffat and this episode it pulled me out of the ep as well. (My head cannon was that he never forgot. Just lied to her face in the diner). Another fun reaction. Loved it. I love Jodi’s Doctor and her era as a whole. Can’t wait to see those reactions. No matter which way they go.
This was a fitting climax to Capaldi's tenure and David Bradley turned in a tremendous performance (despite the occasional miswriting of the First Doctor's character--he was never the sexist portrayed here). I'm looking forward to the reactions to Jodie. Contrary to much of the fandom, Jodie has quickly become one of my favourites (despite initial misgivings) and I really enjoyed Chibnall's move back to generally smaller scale stories; no more bombastic overblown, 'oncoming storm' but rather back to the very fallible but morally sound character I grew up with back in the 60s and 70s (yes, I've been with the show since Hartnell and, yes, despite my youthful good looks I really am that old...).
There probably are a "supercut" (or two) of the Doctor's regeneration speeches on YT out there. Unfortunately, Colin Baker never got the chance on broadcast TV as he was unceremoniously canned by the BBC after his contract was up. Sylvester McCoy also didn't get much of anything as he regenerated in the first quarter minutes of the TV movie. This Christmas special is among my favourites because of its lack of villain. Rather than a typical adventure story, it's a tone poem about memory, letting go and moving on.
The two grumpiest Doctors together. And one more episode with Bill Pots. And Capaldi's final speech! I LOVE IT. And I had so forgotten the Brigadier connection. That took my by surprise...AGAIN...and brought tears to my eyes. Three generations of that family. You mention Ukraine. I have friends caught up in it. They have a blackout for 20 hours a day. Their home got destroyed and had to find a new place. Well...I can go on.
Gonna say I'm not a huge fan of what's to come but I'm hoping your reactions might give me a new perspective on it, if you like the episodes of course! :)
I actually took time off of work to see this in theaters (i never ask for time off, im an OT guy). It was the last special in theaters here. I was literally the only one that showed up with Capaldi's 2nd sonic screwdriver.
The world is what WE make of it, each of us individually. This is a personal responsibility that we can't delegate to anyone else: not to family, friends, spiritual leaders, or politicians. And we had better get busy, or someone else will come along and do it for us.
Fun fact: Jenna was supposed to be in the entire episode instead of Pearl Mackie, but due to schedule conflicts that short scene was all she was able to do.
"I would like a shortcut of every final speech and regeneration" . You're in luck; there's a video the Doctor Who YT channel out out showing every Doctor's regeneration from the first to the thirteenth: ruclips.net/video/mcggi9kXiaY/видео.html In fact, maybe you two could do a reaction video to it. But if not, then there you go, Paula.
LOL! (Didn't he do a proper regeneration with Big Finish in recent years? I seem to remember something like that, but I'm so behind on audios, I don't know for sure)
There are many videos out there that cover the various regeneration scenes, BUT some regenerations didn't really get any sort of final goodbye. Colin Baker (Doctor 6) got screwed.
Peter Capaldi my favorite Doctor David Tennant & Christopher Eccleston had the best storys Matt Smith's had the best seasons Let's see what comes next.
You both look great! More so than usual. lol Someone else mentioned that Katrina looks a little like Death from The Sandman series. Was it intentional? Would say his latter part of Capaldi's run was the best. Although, you could look at it as them simply giving him character development. If you start out with him being "perfect", where do you go from there? I had totally forgotten that he gets his memories of Clara back. Good for him! As you can see from the comments already, the next era will definitely have strong and mixed opinions. Can't wait! Allon-sy!
I'm so excited for your reactions to Jodie's era! It's contentious for so many but I really do love her run. Plus, when isn't a new regeneration contentious for many? I think, like Davies and Moffat, Chibnall is a long time fan but I feel like his preferred classic Who might lean more toward 4-7. Eras whose influence we've seen a bit less of to this point. Either way, Change is a core part of Who and I embrace it whole-heartedly.
I think for most people the issue wasn't even Jodie. It's Chibnail and his showrunning being underwhelming, basically wasting something that could probably be one of the nicer eras. And the main difference here has been also that Jodie's character has been very inconsistent and for most to connect with her - it took almost two or more seasons. Like for me she fully took the role only at the end of season 12, with some small flashes of Doctor every now and then. Like for me - the biggest good part about Chibnails era is that it allowed for most people, especially haters to actually properly aknowledge and love RTD and Moffat's eras. Especially Martha's and Capaldi's seasons - they were hated right and left before, but nowadays I feel like more and more people appreciate season 3 and 10, after being confronted with what Chibs have given us.
Chibnalls run has so much atrocious writing and non-existent characterisation that only the most nimble actors are able to cope and do well. Jodie was saddled in that situation with all the expectation of playing the Doctor, imprinting the role as a woman with a new identity, and working against naysayers... unless she was literally The Jesus of Acting, she was going to fail in that situation. Saying that, she is woefully miscast, directionless, derivative, and entirety lost as The Doctor. Coming after Capaldi only made it worse. It's Chibnalls fault, but Jodie isn't blameless. Capaldi could make drivel watchable. Jodie cant. Just my take.
As long as you remain open minded I don't think anyone won't give you a chance. Your reactions are usually brilliant and honest. So please just keep doing that.
Simultaneously the least Christmassy Christmas special while being the most impactful Christmas special by showing how Christmas carols literally stopped one of the bloodiest wars in human history, even if only for one day. I'm not a very religious guy, but this episode was incredibly moving for that reason alone, not to speak about how gutted I was to see Capaldi go.
So incredibly excited to hear thoughts on the Chibnall series. I have to admit that Chibnall's stories did grow on me after a rewatch; I'm still not a huge fan of the filming style, but I can separate the stories from that now that time's passed.
I have been binging all your vids, and i am very interested to see if you guys can make me change my opinion of series 13. I honestly enjoyed 11 and 12 a lot, but they lost me with 13. So excited to see what Paula thinks!

personally I think he was way better writing one offs and two parters than he was a showrunner.
I can't believe we made it! what a journey it has been, you might even say we came the long way round (ba dum tish)
Here we are people and you know what's so moving about Capaldis time as the Doctor is that for me I don't feel he got the recognition he deserved at the time, I know I for one didn't enjoy his tenor as well as I have these past few re-watches and that is okay because what is not for me is meant for another.
Laugh hard, run fast, Be kind, beautiful words to go out on - Thank you Kat and Paula for everything you were to me during Peters run and here is to a new era, love it or hate it I am here for it.
Paula called out the 'the internet is dramatic' statement before I could even scroll down to the comments :D :D :D
I'm anxious to see Paula's take on Chib's era.
F**k me sideways with a sonic - Capaldi's farewell speech is just sublime. Just made me miss him more re-living with the Gals (thanks but also damn you to Trenzalore)
'Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind'.
It's great how they wove the Christmas Truce of WW1 into the story, and one of the first companions, too.
And so ends the chapter of the greatest Doctor of the modern era........Thank you Peter Capaldi
I clicked this SO fast!! I must say, I would have loved to see the reaction to "Previously..."
Doctor Who never fails to touch us. This special makes me cry every time I watch it.
Yeah, you two're like: "This is me, and this is my FEELINGS! And we're definitely doing things with them!"
Capaldi quote "War doesn't decide whose right. It decides whose left"
Good or Bad I just wish they'd make more Doctor Who content.
I mean you’ll always have big finish some of Who’s best stuff is audio dramas.
Peter Capaldi in my opinion is just the best I loved him so much he made me feel more than any other. I love Jodie as Doctor too it took me some time but she is great and really grew on me
I agree Jodie is great but Peter is just the best
"we're all the Doctor's companions, and sometimes we're more present in the story than other times" that just...got to me, omfg Paula hahah T_T
RIP 12th.
My favorite Doctor.
Did you guys know that the Christmas Armistass was a true event from WWI?
I definitely choose to believe that the part of 12's goodbye speech where he was talking about children hearing his name was Capaldi saying goodbye to the character because of how important it was to him as a kid.
Thank you Peter you were my Doctor
the lump in my throat and the wetness on my cheeks tell me that this reaches deeper than I could have predicted, and I'm not upset about that
And Thus ends the Great Era of Doctor Who. It was a fun ride while it lasted.
22:50 Paula just solved RTD's problem for the retcon of the retcon! XD
The most I've ever cried on Christmas day. That's my memory of this episode. I don't want him to go.
I will never for the life of me understand the female fan hate for Clara. She stayed no longer than Amy or Rose did and was no more guilty of shitty behavior than either.
@KayKo There's a handful of episodes between them and the female half of the fandom were bitching about her long before she left.
They've watched quite a few already - many of the fan favourites (and the same also goes for TOS reactions)
Couple of classics right there, Trev!
The Gals have done my other fave Dalek story, Genesis of the Daleks. My three equal faves Genesis(Sarah-Jane), Revelation(Peri) and Remembrance (Ace) ☺
Those stories will be especially good to introduce them to Tegan and Ace. For REASONS, of course.
@@NicoleM_radiantbaby ah, Tegan and Ace....happy days ☺❤❤
Hi there I've watched your reaction show from the start and I've totally enjoyed it ! I came upon your site just by chance and I find you both amazing young ladies. Anyhow this is the end of the journey for me as I can't relate to the new Dr one bit. I hope you enjoy it more than me . Bye its been a real fun 4 years ....and thank you...😊
love a genuine reaction
“Doctor, I let you go.” 😭
It would be interesting to see Paula react to a super cut of regenerations.
Should watch that proms video of all regenerations with this is gallifrey it’s so good.
Technically Hugh grant has been the doctor so has Rowan Atkinson, lol 😂
Need to look up the comic relief doctor who with them in
And the Doctor became a woman.
Almost like Moffat traveled into the past to write the Red Nose script.
This is what they're on about Gals.

Already looking forward to your cosplay efforts at GallifreyOne 2023. 😃
@@mmattson8947 It's honestly surreal how much of that special later got brought into Moffat's own run on this show
So Richard E. Grant, I don´t know if before or after the Great Intelligence...
Coooolio! Over on BritBox I’ve just seen the regeneration of the 2nd Doctor (no final speech), just about to start with Jon Pertwee
Katrina looking very "Death of The Endless" from Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics today
Dang! You beat me to it!
Fun fact: Jenna was supposed to be in the entire episode instead of Pearl Mackie, but due to schedule conflicts that short scene was all she was able to do.
@@SGlitz Really? But she was wearing the "same" clothes from Face The Raven/Hell Bent...
@@cargo71 clothing can be put in the mail
"I would like a shortcut of every final speech and regeneration" .
You're in luck; there's a video the Doctor Who YT channel out out showing every Doctor's regeneration from the first to the thirteenth: ruclips.net/video/mcggi9kXiaY/видео.html
In fact, maybe you two could do a reaction video to it. But if not, then there you go, Paula.
I was about to take my pre-work nap, but then I saw this video was uploaded..... Sleep can wait 😂
You might be disappointed with “carrot juice, carrot juice, carrot juice.”
He was able to get his goodbye in the Big Finish audio. It was a nice send off
The minute I saw Jodie in the Tardis, she was the Doctor. She's amazing.
"Laugh Hard. Run Fast. Be Kind" In my case, quoting Meat Loaf, two out of three ain´t bad...
You ladies should probably watch British TV Christmas commercials especially the Sainsburys armistice one.
I'm so excited for Paula to meet my favourite Doctor, she's brilliant
End of a Dr Who Era!
Peter Capaldi my favorite Doctor
David Tennant & Christopher Eccleston had the best storys
Matt Smith's had the best seasons
Let's see what comes next.
13:51 The official Doctor Who channel made a mash-up of all the regenerations, you can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/mcggi9kXiaY/видео.html
One of the episodes in Season 11 is my FAVOURITE DR WHO OF ALL OF THEM
So incredibly excited to hear thoughts on the Chibnall series.
I have to admit that Chibnall's stories did grow on me after a rewatch; I'm still not a huge fan of the filming style, but I can separate the stories from that now that time's passed.
My 2 favorite Doctors have been Capaldi and Jodi. So I'm excited about you heading into.......the most contentious era of the show
I have been binging all your vids, and i am very interested to see if you guys can make me change my opinion of series 13. I honestly enjoyed 11 and 12 a lot, but they lost me with 13. So excited to see what Paula thinks!
Jodi portrays a wonderful Doctor; I personally like the 13th Doctor; she's not my favourite incarnation but she isn't my least favourite either; I actually like all the incarnations of The Doctor. I cannot wait to see your reactions to The 13th Doctor and her adventures.
So you want the Doctor to briefly regenerate in Hugh Grant and then into someone else? Looks like it's time to watch 'The Curse of Fatal Death'.
Yeah, they REALLY should react to that sometime. Especially as it has the first female Doctor!
