Go to Itaewon and shot at OKBT, the Korean lady who owns it is a plus size woman and she sells a lot of plus size clothing. That's where I used to buy all my clothes when I lived in Korea. Edit: just realized you showed there... it's nice to see they repaired their shop after the big fire in 2013. It was a nice store and I loved the owner when I was there. She always gave me the best deals on clothing.
Uyen Nguyen they don’t mean to be mean. Back in my country, if a foreigner walked by everybody would be staring. It’s just something new to them and they do not mean anything rude at all because it’s rare to see a foreigner there!^^
Well im korean i lived in Azerbaijan for 3 years, when I walk on the street people stare an Asian looking woman, me. Children literally ran to me to have better look 😂
+La'Myha Churchill Its the same in China I've been living here for two years its annoying but you get used to it. You have people talking about your hair, skin color, etc. but honestly its just ignorance.
+Zoe Alexis-Nichole I guess it's maybe because she was videoing her self as walking. It's not pretty common to see people taking to the camera themselves.. :) I wouldn't deny lots of people just star at foreigners tho.. !
I am from Nepal and I have never seen black foreigners before so if someday I saw them then obviously I will stare. I am not staring because I am disgusted or because I am racist, I am simply curious and just want to observe. But I promise not to stare continuously :D
You give me hope , like honestly when I watch your videos my confidence boosts because im 15 and im on the chubby side, but you give me hope to just be comfortable in my own skin cause you can relate to hate from people as well, thank you girll :) 💗💗💕
Lolling at everyone complaining about the looks ur getting without thinking of the fact ur talking to urself, whilst holding a camera. Don't be so quick to judge if ur wanting to move to Korea guys
lydia asantewaa I went into a Korean grocery store in the US and ppl were staring at me all crazy like... I was with my sis but I was wearing a bright colorful outfit(i wore a skirt down to my ankles)and you would have thought a celebrity arrived. 🙄 guys kept walking passed the isles giggling like school girls and workers peeking out of doorways... It got wired fast 😯 I guess I looked good(at least to me lol) well I should say when I wore that outfit most men all paused no matter what race... I even got an OMG screamed out by a teenage boy 🙃 I did steal attention of some guys from a bridal party that was at a park we was at 😆 their girls were not happy 😂 let me stop but sometimes you don't have to do much to turn heads.
I'll never forget looking for clothes in one of those buildings, and they said to me "no, no , large woman" and directed me downstairs where there were clothes literally in size Large, but not bigger. But subway sandals were the best, so cheap!
Please please please, do a try on haul. If you ever decide to get dresses and jeans. I just really want to make sure I can get some cute stuff for when I eventually go to Korea for teaching. Thank you! Great video and you looked absolutely beautiful.
Christina C most likely it will, with kpop styles they are loving the baggy shirts it almost seems like the 90's in my opinion which is why you see a lot of girl idols wearing what looks like to be boys clothes
I won't lie, I've put on some weight here in college (a LOT) so honestly I prolly will need to know where all the stores with larger clothes are. Thanks lol.
Love love love your personality very optimistic and you carry yourself gracefully and fierce. Which in my eyes is hard to pull off. Thinking of visiting Korea and your tips have really helped with convincing me to go. Thank you for posting videos on important things to know when in Korea. Lots of Love and best wishes. May your channel flourish. :D
Nat, you have this welcoming, approachable, tangible vibe about you. That alone (apart from you being very informative and helpful) makes you a joy to watch. Consider me subscribed.
You have a very beautiful face, and skin tone. I like your color skin! I think it's awesome that you get to live in Korea! I really want to go, in the near future. But, for me it might be different, because I actually want to be a Pediatrician and I'm thinking of going to college there. So, I can learn Korean and the medical words in Korean, instead of going to college here in America. So, hopefully I can!
I thought I had commented on this video already, but apparently not. Thank you for this helpful video! I'm a tad overweight, so I was worried about the accessability of clothing for me during my exchange semester in Seoul. After watching this, I'm rather excited to go shopping for new tops (and not having to pack too many). Loose-fitting fashion to the rescue!
thanks for this video! I'm going to be studying abroad this summer, actually I'm l flying out to Seoul this Friday! The biggest thing I'm eager to do while there is shopping, I love the styles and the fact that it's super cheap. I'm also not a small petite kind of girl, so I'm glad to know that the sizes do run a bit flexible! 😊
girl your not the only one who gets stares from Korea me too I went to Africa with my mom in December to go see my family there but people still looked at me because of the way I dressed and I’m from America too but I just didn’t understand at the time but now I know.
Nat, u r just amazing and such an inspiration to many girls like me!! love the way how u are so confident about everything, which makes u beautiful not only from outside but also from inside!! keep doing the good work Nat, love you! hwaiting!!!!
I'm currently living in Korea and due to some hormones unbalance my weight dropped up so I'm currently overweight. Because of that I was really really concerned about my size but looking around internet I found an amazing shop in Hongdae called Romi story and it's lovely. They have all sizes and the price is pretty good and perfectly in cute korean style! I totally recommend it!
Subscribed! Glad to find a woman of color in Asia, I'm in China been here for almost two years now and the staring I can totally relate to. I'm like a walking museum out here. Shopping is tough but I've been losing weight here so its getting a little easier. I'm normally a size 12, jeans I'll never find but tops are great H&M/Bershka/Monki/Zara and ordering online.
I love your channel Nat! Although you haven't been in Korea long, you've already covered a lot of social territory. Thanks for the uploads. P.S. I heard for larger sized pants and footwear in Korea you kind of have to stick to U.S. chain stores. Like, Old Navy and Payless Shoes. Or rely on online shopping :-/ .
Yeap thats true.I have been here for 7 straight years and foot wearand hair is most difficult to get .Sometimes going to Osan near the Songtan airbase guarantees a cute pair of heels in sizes 10 and up
Omgosh thanks you thank a Y-OU !!! Cuz I thought I wouldn’t find any place !! My trip planning got even better !! Hollllllaaaaa!! Yeah!! What what !! Can’t wait until I go 🎶🎶🎶
I was worried about finding plus size clothing in Korea. I am about a size 14/16 in the US. I heard that all the clothes are super tiny. Honestly, watching this video makes me want to go to Korea even more. Korean malls seem like paradise to me because I love to shop!!
+SapphireNinja98 I would say that it could be a hit or miss. Shopping in Korea is not always perfect, but you can get lucky. In the areas that I mentioned, I have been pretty luck with finding clothes.
I'm headed to seoul at the end of the week and although I'm not plus sized, i am a little taller than average and hippy so i was concerned I'd only be able to get men's wear.i already do shop men's clothing in the u.s. but korean womens wear is so cute! Thanks for the tips too! how does haggling there work? like around how low can i go before they want to shoo me away haha
Lovely. I am suppose to be visiting friends. I have lots of stuff but I do not mind going to see if they are able to cater to my size. You are amazing and I am glad that you are showing others that it's okay to a poc. Hey I love japan and when I'm there there's similar feats.
Awesome! So glad you uploaded this! I just started working here, and I am a size 14-16. So this gives me some re-assurance. I packed my suitcase as tight as i could. lol
Well I haven't tried yet, but I know that Victoria Secret ships here, so I can use that for bras. And i think, but i'm not positive, that old navy/the gap ships here. Which they carry some plus sizes.
Thanks Nat! Im Filipino but Im not petite so this video helped me a lot. I want to pick up something cute when I visit Seoul not just the usual shirt and shorts. So thanks for this! Ive heard of Romy? Or something like that.
I went to korea and shopped at dongdaemun. For pants/jeans at a department store, I'm a size 27 in america and that was the 2nd to largest size jeans in korea, and the length was too short. The shorts were super tiny, and the skirts were not meant for girls with a butt, i couldn't wear any of the bottoms The clothes especially dresses were made for the korean slim look and not the curvy look. I would ask the lady in korean if it would fit me, and she glanced at me and said "barely, but i think it will." Not even the large jackets would fit over my chest or my broad shoulders. I think the mens clothing were more my size lol. I can't wait to go back to korea. I just wished they had clothes for more sizes like in america. The underground subway venders was a very unique experience lol. Haggling was fun, but my friend who didn't speak korea was taken advantaged of. My korean isn't perfect, but it was good enough for them to give me the "discount" for koreans versus the "discount" for foreigners. One lady was like "item is 60$" to my friend, when the korean sign said "item was 30" lmao.
I'm plus sized, but I could fit skirts and stretchy pants (pants only if I got them from forever 21 or h&m), I could fit some skirts from regular korean shops if they were stretchy enough and tops I could fit if they were meant to be loose and not form fitting. I lost weight before going, but I definitely want to lose more weight before round two cause the clothes are sooooo cute!!! Have you ever tried shopping at Ewha's Women's University? They have lots of variety and pretty cheap.
Awesome video! If I move forward with my burning desire to move to South Korea to teach English, it'd be great to hang out. You seem like you fall into the category of GOOD PEOPLE :P I look forward to seeing more of your journey (and success)!
There is an online place called hotping and they have a lot of clothes there too they have reviews too and a lot of sizes they have an app too and an app called zigzag has a lot of online stores too
Thank you for sharing your experience I will be in Seoul for three week and while packing for my trip I realized I probably would be able to find clothes to fit me there and wondered how I could take enough winter clothes for my trip. Can you find shoes I also have a wide foot and usually have to by 9 1/2 or 10 Thank again you saved me some worry.
lol I thought it was so cute she didn't know what HBA (Hood By Air) was ^_^. Everything by them is "legally" super expensive. But I see a lot of rookie k-pop idols or k-hop artist rocking the affordable knock-offs.
Thanks for this...I fluctuate between a US 16 to 18 (usually closer to 18). Can you do a 2016 update if anything has changed? This is just my 2nd video of yours...so if you already have then ignore me.
Glad to see this video. I am a plus size girl and also worried about clothes. I don't know though I'm like a 3x so I don't know if you can find that? If you can message me about what size you use so I can get an idea that would be awesome. Thanks!
+Selena Rodriguez I wear a 1x in tops (depending on the company, maybe a 2x). Remember this is Western sizing. When it comes to Korea clothes, I may be looking at 5/6x. (it's pretty crazy). Again, I think that it is a hit or miss. Most likely you won't find really cute and fashionable clothes, mostly oversized tops. I would stick with tops that are stretchy because they have more of a give..
I'm not plus size, but I had it pretty bad there since my legs are a lot shorter compared to my waist. I'm a 36x29, and that was almost impossible to find.
+Korean Pathfinder I know, I'm in that weird middle area too...having larger hips and being short don't really mesh well. All the pants I purchase usually have to be hemmed or folded up.
Oh also can you do a review on purchasing plus size clothes online and how much it cost to ship to Korea? I've also wondered if buying something that is slightly too small and taking it to get altered or getting clothes custom made is a viable option. TIA if you have any insights to that!
hopefully i'm not late! but I found you and subscribed I love your channel! im plus size girl and I want to actually teach in south korea (English) hopefully everything works out for me in the future
Hi, Nat. Thanks for the video. Now I know where to go to find more clothes in Seoul. I'll have to try out Dongdaemun. Also, if you're ever looking for a shopping buddy let me know. I miss shopping with friends.
+Asian Hershey I can't just walk onto base, someone needs to sponser you, and I don't know anyone in the US military here that can give me that connection.
+TravelingNat The area around the base has many shops. You can shop around that area.I dont go on post to shop. The area has hair salons and things for the airmen.
+TravelingNat ugh I know the struggle, I live in Germany and people keep asking why I don't go on a base for stuff like I could just waltz in there as a civilian. Which is hard, if you post on a message board or expat group asking if someone can bring you in you will not likely get a warm reaction. (Not that I blame them, who wants to be used?) On another note, how much for tailoring? My husband's friend in China used to get stuff custom made for cheapish since he outsized the retail shops. I wouldn't do this for everything, but I guess like a few solid basics pieces it might be an option.
Ah ok, cool. I didn't know it was like that in Korea. I'm in Germany and I'm mostly sour because I miss my Lucky Charms, Taco Bell, and Krispy Kremes and those are reportedly on post. lol
Hi Nat, thanks so much for this video! This is one of the topics I'm worried about, since I'm not part of the "straight" sizes already here in America. Let me just clarify this one thing, just to be sure: when you say plus size, do you mean larger than XL/14? I'm a bit larger than that, and so finding clothing that is already larger than what is the norm in America will make things even harder when I do go to South Korea. In terms of clothing - can you try on the clothing? I've heard of places not allowing that, since it's cheap clothing and worries about things stretching out, but for myself I really need to see if something fits on myself. Eyeballing or just guessing if something will fit doesn't sit well with me, especially with things like button ups or such. You also mentioned that the trend is oversize in South Korea right? Is this just common in South Korea, or is this something just current or a fad? I'm not going to South Korea for at least two years, so I just want to know if this is something that will still be common when I do go. I hope this doesn't offend you either, but this is just something I'm worried about. Have you experienced fatphobia or fat shaming while there? So far I have not seen much about this topic, other than foreigners generally talking about how people will talk about appearances, but not specificially on how plus size people are treated. Lastly, on a side note other than plus size, you mentioned that you should haggle. How do you haggle, were you able to do so okay even with the language barrier? Haggling sounds a bit intimidating, I have never done so before. Anyways, I wanna say Nat that I love your videos about your experiences in South Korea, both in and outside of teaching. They are so informative and helpful, thank you so much!
+Sakura2838 Hi! When I say plus size, yes, I mean pant size 12 and above. In OKBT (in Itaewon) I saw pant size going up to a size 20/22. Shopping for plus size in Korea is not going to be as easy as it is in the US, but it is possible. You just need to know where to shop.[I do want to note that this pertains to me living close to the Seoul area. I cannot speak for any other areas outside of Seoul] Usually you can't try on clothing, and if you can, it's usually a bootleg setup behind some string and a blanket (if you're comfortable with that). Usually you just have to eye clothing and hope that it works. I find that usually the body area of a shirt would fit, but the arms are ridiculously small. You just have to pray and hope for the best. I just tend to keep away from non-stretchy items that don't have any give. I'm not really sure if oversize a fad, I'm not too familiar with past style trends in Korea. But the oversize trend is one that is prevalent...there are many trends that are going on here...theres the hiphop style, 90s style, cutsy girly style, structured and mature girly style, minimalist style. Those are just some styles that I see the majority of people wearing. I havent experience anything negative in regards to my weight. People just tell me that Korean food is healthy, and its better to eat. I did have one guy hand me a dieting flier on the street...but I wasn't the only person. Honestly, don't be consumed with what you think people will think of you. 1) You are a foreigner so you can get away with a lot more things than natives..I don't think that Koreans in particular are going to go out of their way to shame you. If anything they'll do it out of concern for your health, not disgust, 2) learn to be comfortable in your own skin, despite what you see portrayed all around you (skinny is minny, light and bright skin is right, ect. ect. As for haggling, you can learn some basic Korean phrases like "How much". But honestly all I do is pick what I want (2 or 3 items) and ask how much. If I don't like the price, I suggest something low (lower than the actual price I am willing to pay). If they offer another price (still not what I want to pay), then I pretend I'm going to leave the store without the items. That is usually when they try to offer you a better deal :) And thank you so much for watching!
+TravelingNat Thank you so very much! Really sucks about not being able to try on clothing. I'm not sure, do you mean visibly a foreigner or will people be able to tell I'm a foreigner regardless? I'm Asian, so I don't think physically I would stand out too much, asides from my weight. I struggle with that, but thanks for your advice, I know that I have to learn to love myself the way I am. Hopefully I can haggle successfully! Again, thanks so much for your videos and for replying! I know I typed up a lot.
PANTS THO!!!! mot exciting, im going to have to visit that place when i get a chance :] is it easy to find? any sort of directions would be appreciated TwT
+chiirox [For OKBT] Get off at the Itaewon train stop and come up exit 5 (I believe). You should be on the side of the street where Hamilton Hotel is. When you come out of the station, just keep walking straight down. OKBT is above a shoe store on your right hand side. I think the store on the 1st floor is Italian shoes. You have to go through that entrance turn right and walk up the stairs to OKBT! Hope this helped! Let me know if you are successful when you go there!
Hey! I will be heading to South Korea soon, and i am coming from 30+'C summer to Winter and snow. I have no idea where to shop for warm plus sized clothes in South Korea. Do you have any tips for where to shop, or should I rather order online? (I will be in the Incheon area)
Oml I freaking LOVE how you just ignored the stares and didn't even glance back at the people. I wish I could have your confidence😖
Your name is awesome
That doesn’t take “confidence”. She’s just ignoring them??? Lol
Jessa or she became used to it.
Go to Itaewon and shot at OKBT, the Korean lady who owns it is a plus size woman and she sells a lot of plus size clothing. That's where I used to buy all my clothes when I lived in Korea.

I hate it how when you walk pass them, they turn around and keep on staring at you..😒
You get used to it. You just keep your head held high and radiate a positive aura.

+La'Myha Churchill LOL you see them right!!!! Wasn't sure if anyone would see them in the background! HAHA!
Yeah, that's pretty cool tho. Have you ever had the men there walk up and talk to you, because your gorgeous ❤️🙈😭😍👸🏾
+La'Myha Churchill Lol...yes....but not from men in my age group >> ruclips.net/video/mMDE_Xik1mw/видео.html&lc=z12meltjrneiexsyn04ch53wwyuvdraojg0

I couldn't deal with all of those people just staring! omg.

I was thinking the same thing. Im from the Caribbean and its really not common to see people out and about vlogging.

Too many people have some staring problems oml

+TravelingNat you should do a video on how much is an English teacher's salary in Korea. If you are comfortable with the subject. :)
Love your videos by the way :) As an aspiring English teacher wanting to teach in Korea I think you help me alot :)

Lovely. I am suppose to be visiting friends. I have lots of stuff but I do not mind going to see if they are able to cater to my size. You are amazing and I am glad that you are showing others that it's okay to a poc. Hey I love japan and when I'm there there's similar feats.
+emikoftokyo Thanks so much!
Hello!
I loved this video! Do you know any k-fashion online shops that deliver to both Korea and America? (Especially plus size)
Great vid!!
I miss the many shops in Dongdaemun and Itaewon.
Love your white shirt 😀😀👍🏻
+andreamoboe Thank you love!
Great video. Very helpful. I may need to go shopping soon... Thanks Nat!
+sweetjim88 Thanks for watching!
I wasn't able to buy jeans, skirts, shorts and some dresses because I'm quite tall. But Edae had the best shopping, especially for females! :)
+XxAlisha10xX I'm going to have to check them out!!
Awesome! So glad you uploaded this! I just started working here, and I am a size 14-16. So this gives me some re-assurance. I packed my suitcase as tight as i could. lol
+lilnangle I understand! I overpacked my 2 suitcases with clothes too...and I STILL don't feel like I brought enough!
The shorts were super tiny, and the skirts were not meant for girls with a butt, i couldn't wear any of the bottoms
The clothes especially dresses were made for the korean slim look and not the curvy look. I would ask the lady in korean if it would fit me, and she glanced at me and said "barely, but i think it will."
Not even the large jackets would fit over my chest or my broad shoulders.
You can also by oversizes clothing outside Seoul in Songtan.
+LethalLemonLime Sorry.. no I have not. I don't travel to Seoul that often, and when I do it's usually for events.
love the video..this makes me what to go even more
I thought I would have to lose wait before I go to Korea.
Inspired by Infires you shouldn't just loose weight in order to go in Korea. If you want to loose some weight, do it for YOURSELF, beautiful.
+Innocente catastrophe I wish I had a jungkook profile pic so i could continue this chain lol
Inspired by Infires weight ***
Inspired by Infires I felt the same way lol
Yep I definitely plan on shedding some weight before going to an part of Asia.
def.helpful ! 👍 i always have to wash new clothes before wearing , and i hate that i'm like that 😂
Awesome video! If I move forward with my burning desire to move to South Korea to teach English, it'd be great to hang out. You seem like you fall into the category of GOOD PEOPLE :P I look forward to seeing more of your journey (and success)!
+Jakin Vela Lol thank you!
Oh thank god!!! I thought I'd have to order online forever ㅠㅠ
This is great! If you find out where to find pants for plus size, I would love that!
+Gina Bear The store I mentioned in my video has plus size pants!
+TravelingNat I must not have caught that part! I'll watch again!
There is an online place called hotping and they have a lot of clothes there too they have reviews too and a lot of sizes they have an app too and an app called zigzag has a lot of online stores too
Yay!
This video has come at perfect timing as I'm visiting Seoul real soon.
Looking forward to more vids :)
+DaisyChakoolageeraTRAVELS I agree.
Thank you for sharing your experience I will be in Seoul for three week and while packing for my trip I realized I probably would be able to find clothes to fit me there and wondered how I could take enough winter clothes for my trip. Can you find shoes I also have a wide foot and usually have to by 9 1/2 or 10 Thank again you saved me some worry.
omg HBA. its a famous brand you always see the celebs wearing it
lol I thought it was so cute she didn't know what HBA (Hood By Air) was ^_^. Everything by them is "legally" super expensive. But I see a lot of rookie k-pop idols or k-hop artist rocking the affordable knock-offs.
***** true i assume it was a knock off but i am the knock off queen so ^^
flawless I heard that ;) . If the real thing was cheaper I'd buy it.
Thanks for this...I fluctuate between a US 16 to 18 (usually closer to 18).
Can you do a 2016 update if anything has changed? This is just my 2nd video of yours...so if you already have then ignore me.
I love how she was just walking and ignoring all those people 😂
This was very helpful Thank you. your so beautiful Nat. ~^^ love that white shirt too.
+felicia johnson Thank you!
TravelingNat Your welcome.
There’s a shop in lotte young plaza, myeongdong called Romi story. It’s full of nice designs in plus size!
Lol... your expression and everything is good😄😍😍
Thanks for this I was struggling here for a size 12 in Seoul. What about for big feet.
4:38 - 4:46 I do that too girrrrrl! It's a MUST for me!
yaaaaay new video ive been looking forward to this video cool clothes xxx
We both r subscribe to traveling nat and whitjojo hmm i wonder who else
haha great mind think alike
+Nana Gyasi :D Thanks love, trying to stay looking "snazzy" for my subbies!
I love the over sized trend, but I border looking somewhat cool & just sloppy. sigh such a fine line lol
You are so beautiful, remind me so much of myself!!! love your videos BTW
Oh also can you do a review on purchasing plus size clothes online and how much it cost to ship to Korea? I've also wondered if buying something that is slightly too small and taking it to get altered or getting clothes custom made is a viable option. TIA if you have any insights to that!
+Selena Rodriguez I actually did a video like that for Korvia! Check it out here >> ruclips.net/video/6skP2rdHpPA/видео.html
hopefully i'm not late! but I found you and subscribed I love your channel! im plus size girl and I want to actually teach in south korea (English) hopefully everything works out for me in the future
Hi, Nat. Thanks for the video. Now I know where to go to find more clothes in Seoul. I'll have to try out Dongdaemun. Also, if you're ever looking for a shopping buddy let me know. I miss shopping with friends.
+17whit Definitely Girl!!!!!
Great! Do you have facebook or perhaps some other way we could get in contact? That way we can plan a shopping trip.
You should try going to Osan ,songtan airbase for shoes dor bigger feets like mine :),a size 10
(Not that I blame them, who wants to be used?)
On another note, how much for tailoring? My husband's friend in China used to get stuff custom made for cheapish since he outsized the retail shops. I wouldn't do this for everything, but I guess like a few solid basics pieces it might be an option.
+SolarEllipsis... yea all around the osan post are stores that cater to foreigners .I know cause i buy shoes there.I don't need to go on post!
Ah ok, cool. I didn't know it was like that in Korea. I'm in Germany and I'm mostly sour because I miss my Lucky Charms, Taco Bell, and Krispy Kremes and those are reportedly on post. lol
oh my god your dimples??? adorable
I need that shirt!!
HAHAHAH OMG THE WANKER TSHIRT I need that
You're very pretty. really enjoy your videos
+Aisha Ibitoye Thanks love!
I typically stare back and speak I also let them know there is no need to stare just speak they look away QUICK
That is usually when they try to offer you a better deal :)
And thank you so much for watching!
PANTS THO!!!!
mot exciting, im going to have to visit that place when i get a chance :]
is it easy to find? any sort of directions would be appreciated TwT
The guy posing at 2:45 lol
this is nice video very interesting keep it up
+Stanley Grant I will... thanks!
I’m a size 12 in England will it be hard for me to find clothes in Korea?
I love that woman waving at the end
oh good one
Also I don't know if I could take the looks I'd get to the point like WTF ARE YOU LOOKING AT!? I would make them feel uncomfortable.
you got a new subcriber love your videos
