Just had my 55 inch lg do this. I simply bit the bullet and bought a new one. I accidentally bought a 65 inch thinking that it was a direct replacement for the old tv. What a happy mistake to make! Remember back when your grandparent's old console TVs never wore out? Old Zeniths, and Admiral, and RCA brands, they just soldiered on for years with no issues. Of course if you were between the ages of 6-15, you were designated channel changer, volume controller, and sometimes broadcast signal technician with rabbit ears, vertical, and horizontal controls. All the 50+ crowd is with me on this one.
Unlatching the prongs and plugging them back in actually fixed the flickering! I was initially like forget this but then I tried for the hell of it and it worked.
I’m having this exact problem with this exact model TV. The repair process isn’t as bad as people make it sound in their comments so I’m stoked that I can just get new backlights and fix this thing. Thank you so much for posting this!
After taking the screws off and still can't open the back panel, I gave up trying to fix it. I put the screws all back. Plug the TV and, of course, it was still flickering. I said my goodbyes, and angrily hit that TV like it was an 80s TV, yelling at it, "DON'T YOU DIE ON ME!! DON'T YOU DARE DIE!!" Gave it another hit one last time.... Suddenly, the flickering stopped and the picture slowly appeared like an angel. I quickly selected "Home" on the remote and selected the RUclips app. RUclips showed up on my TV screen. OMG!! My TV is alive!!!!! It worked again. I guess I was the lucky one where perhaps something was loose and hitting it realigned it back. I moved my TV a week ago to another area of the room, so don't know if that caused any loose wiring for it to flicker. Anyway, hit it in the back and see if it'll work for you.
Just taken ours apart, had the exact same TV, tested every led individually and one wasn't lighting up, lucky for me I have the tools to replace the individual led but you guys could easily just replace the strip that's causing you issues, hope this helps anyone
I just love finding flat panels by the curb. I’ll scoop em up even if they’ve been rained on. Most people won’t know/care to troubleshoot so it’s more fun for me! And even if I can’t get the thing to work, the good boards can go for a premium online. Currently going thru this flashing thing with one I picked up today.
Ive got what looks like the same TV. Ive been noticing for months now some minor dimming and flickering in the bottom center of the screen. Today the whole screen just started doing what yours is doing. I'm glad I found this video. It's going to be very helpful.
I had same problem with LG 49LB550V. TV was flickering so I founnd out one of the diodes on the very bottom strip didn´t work. So I bought complete pack of strips for $70 and changed them all. Works perfectly fine again. Thanks.
It's a straightforward repair though has potential for issues: Unscrew outside plastic and front metal panel and after separating the plastic housing around the light box, set aside the glass image screen panel by loosening the bottom ribbon cable from the swivel clip. To remove the clips keeping the reflector light box attached by sliding down and carefully prying the plastic from the metal housing, and once removing the tv light diffuser, fresnel lens, and whatever the third sheet is, it can be done entirely from the front (though alternatively, you might need to get access to underneath the circuit boards, it really isn't required unless you're uncomfortable with the capacitors being exposed which could potentially get damaged,) by twisting the square/rectangle plastic components they will unlock and if you pull up one corner of the long narrow pieces with the spacer sticking up, gently pull up the corner of the long strips of plastic to slide it out. From here you get access to the lcd wire harness and lights, and you will need to pull up on the wiring harness to get it off, and then pry off the strip of panel (and hopefully you have replacement lcds with plastic lenses.) The issue I had was when rescrewing the glass panel with the housing, as apparently it wasn't completely flush with the molding and cracked when retightening. I will still use the screen but it does show up at certain times.
I should also add, the power supply seems to be causing shortages when these tv power on, as man LG tv from this time are prone to the same defect, and it's not any different with new light panels. They will continue to burn out.
Love the comments about diagnosing it being too hard and too much work. What do you think a technician would have to do if they were to repair it? We really do live in a throw away society.
I somewhat agree. The only is why didn’t he completely repair it that was just an in-depth diagnosis on repairs needed. I buy the strips an then BOOM I’m still lost... 🤔 I’m can’t afford a new Tv right now. Money 💵
Same thing happned to my 65" LG. Felt pretty confident going into it. Unplugged everything. Took it apart. SHOCKED THE SHIT out of myself. Went straight to best buy to buy a new TV
I can't believe the comments of people saying they prefer spending $300-500 on a new TV instead of doing a minor fix that doesn't involve soldering anything. I love dumpster diving. I lived in Mexico for 3 years. Absolutely no dumpster diving there: people fix their shit and don't throw anything away. Now I live in Canada and it's a paradise. Lots of TVs, furniture, bikes requiring minor fixes, if any. Programmed obsolescence doesn't exist. People are too rich and dumb to bother fixing their stuff that's all.
Thanks. That helped me diagnose that I need a new TV. Exact same issue. No chance in hell I'm doing that kind of investigation... Fair play though.. :)
Hey mate I have almost the exact lg tv although I am in Australia, would you know a part number for the led backlight as I have 2x lg 55ly340c tv's both with the same issue, I was thinking I could either make one tv out of the 2 or try to get some replacement led backlight's, I am pretty confident when working with mains power and electronics, did you end up posting a pt2 for thus video (I was looking on your channel but couldn't find it) Thanks in advance mate
got the same tv and same problem, you did a superb job explaining everything. I was very comfortable being able to take it apart without damaging anything just didn’t know the basics of how it works, what to look for , or where to test it using a multi volt tester. Probably going to buy a new bigger(of course😂) tv but I will definitely take the old one apart find out what it needs and determine if it’s worth ordering parts $$ for. Thanks again knowledge is power!👍 📺🇨🇦
Hi there ad THANKS for a great video!! I have the same problem as you I have an LG 55LB6000 that flickers BUT I noticed that on your video your leds are flashing at the same intensity as mine it flashes bright (2 times) and then flashes a bit dim (1 time - then 2 time bright, 1 time dim etc...) and I did a dc volt test and I get 170 on both output. You have one normal and the other one bad reading. So now what can I do now that I know mine has both readings the same values?? What could it be the PS? The caps and everything looks normal to the eye no bulge or burnt marks so what could you suggest as next step to do? Thanks for any help!!!
Question. Since only one bank of lights is not working, is it possible to swap two banks and see. If the top bank stops working and the bottom one starts working, then you know its lights, not the power board. If no change - its the power board...?
Even though it's an older video, I just want to say thank you it did help me diagnose my TV. It's not something that I want to get into fixing right now but I am going to put the TV away and attempt to repair it myself, I think it would be an interesting challenge.
I'm having the same problem, did you get yours fixed? How much did they charge you? Thinking of the same idea of getting it fixed by someone w some knowledge in TV repair
I agree. Imagine tearing something apart, having a working multimeter, making a video, and not even being able to diagnose the difference between a bad light and a bad power supply.

Nice, mine started flickering the same. Tried soft reset and hard reset nothing worked. Then I searched online to see what else I can do then saw this video. I did everything you said up to the part where you pulled out the tester thingy which I didn't have which was frustrating then I realized I had something way better which was my giant hammer and used it on my LG TV. Best thing I ever did. Now I have a smart TV. One day I know I will use that hammer again to fix my smart tv but for now it will stay in the tool shed.
Seems to me that if you switched the left and right positive wires of the LED's you could better test if the strips are working. Looks like the power supply was the problem to me.
The power supply readings change after disconnecting the strips, and the readings he's getting after disconnecting them are normal on this TV. I got the same results as him on my TV and found obviously burnt LEDs. Replacing them fixed the tv
@@vwpier purchased mine on ebay . They where 80 dollars from a place in california but i went the cheap way and got mine from china at 40 dollars but with a high rating. Installed it and now it works great so far.
This is a cool video to watch, I learned a lot and I was impressed that you kept trying to fix it, it got to involved for me and my boyfriend would never do this for me, lol....so new tv for me...thanks for sharing though.
I have an old LG I gave to my son that worked fine for many years. Found this video when the flickering started which was cool but we decide to go new to get a cheap 4k that is 55in instead. Sometimes you have to weigh out the pluses and minuses one whether to stink money into something as old that is 1080, limited on inputs and no smart features.
What’s the other issues because I just replace the lightbulb same fucking problem which I had a feeling with my luck that mine wouldn’t be exactly like all the videos online when they say it’s the bulbs and they say that it’s the boards but is that the other issue is the fucking control boards? Sorry for my language, but I just got done putting mine back together and finding out that I’ve got the same. Damn problem as I had before.
same here, i bought a replacement power control board off ebay (very reputable TV part supplier and the part has a warranty), just fitted it this arvo and still having the same issue. soo far $50 for new LEDs, $80 for new board. not likely to go any further. will recheck my LED connections again this weekend otherwise ill be replacing the whole thing.
I don't know what model my TV is but my TV just started having a flickering problem today and the thing keeps flickering in such a way that it looks like it's turning off and on all the time like the red light that shows up when the TV is off keeps flickering on and off as well and if I unplug the TV it's fine but if I plug it back in it starts flickering again without me having to turn it on. Can this be fixed with this method that you have here or do I have to get a new TV?
So I need a multimeter, an LED tester, replacement parts and I have to remember how to put everything back together? All which will probably come from Amazon in multiple packages over a number of days. Or...new TV from a store. hmmm, tough descision.
Ok so I did your method and when you disconnected the LED and tested it and when I did it the top Led+ on mine came out to say OL no numbers and the bottom LED+ said about 180 so does this mean I should just order a whole new set of LEDs?
When my friend was describing it it sounded like a capacitor issue. I opened it hoping it would eb an easy fix, and then saw hundred of volts, rip my odds of using one that can handle 50
I hate the fact that i had my LG for only a year or two before the flickering shut started happening. Bought a new tv off rip but i kept the LG just incase. Might have to fix it 🧐
I am an electrical & electronics engineer. IMO this is inconclusive. I cannot see how these voltage tests show a faulty diode, apart from you have some voltage. I also don’t like the way the voltage is bouncing around. Unless you have an LED tester (or lab PSU) I would just change all the LEDs as they age at the same rate. Then, change the PSU board if still not working. It’s not diagnosing the fault to low level but should result in success. That’s what I’m going to do.
Never did confim if it was the led strips as there is no part 2 to this video? I have the exact same TV, changed the leds and still flickering. Looks like it might be the power supply?
Looks like the 49". I just tore into mine and looks exactly like yours. I think it would be best to test the power supply first before tearing into the front. If the output is low replace it first.
Replaced my leds in mine 4 years ago. Now theyre out again. Going to be replacing again as theyre only $20. Got the tv for free because it "didnt work" so for being in it at $40 now for 4years not bad
This is bullchit! My 2 year old TV is hooped. How am I supposed to wrangle a 75” TV?! 😂 OMG. Even if I just buy a new one… my lord…. the effort it took to get this thing home 😭 I swear to gosh it weighs like 150 lbs. I’m jus gonna hold my iPad 12” from my face at this point and it’s about the same size as the tv looks from this angle. I hate my life. Sorry to rant on your video. Your video is really good and very informative!!!! Thank you 😅
My LG 55LB60000-UH screen is black when first turned but it flickers from top to bottom where I can see the LG logo and settings menus. After a few seconds, the entire screen fades to black. No pulsating light like shown in your video. Meter tests with LED light cable detached from the power board. One of the LED+ reading is 161-175, and on the other LED+, the reading is 174 to 199. I presume this is a faulty power board not bad LEDs. Would this be a correct assessment? When powered on I can see good LED lighting from the top to the bottom of the screen. It doesn't appear any LED's are out. It powers on with a black screen with good contrast to the menus flickering on the screen for about 3 to 5 seconds then fades to black with nothing at all on the screen like the power is fading out completely. What's your opinion?
Your testing of the LED+ leads without the cable attached would indicate a board problem; not LED strips. Since there are 8 strips being poered by two leads, each lead will feed 4 strips so the LED+ signal should measeure the same voltage when the strips are disconnected. The low voltage on the second lead when no load is present points to a board problem rather than the LED strips.
So I don't think it's me led lights, I believed it's my power. I tested like you showed and had under 100 on both sides and about the same from the other side while unplugged if I remember correctly. So I didn't see any other comments about that or any videos you posted about what to do if it wasn't the LED strips. Suggestions or can you put me in the right direction please. Thank you
My LG 4k tv blinks from time to time with difficulty turning on. I just unplug it and leave it alone for a day and it works fine after 24 hours. I think it just over heats.
possibly and overheating issue. possibly some blown capacitors. start by taking it apart and aircan all the dust. then look for burns or bulging capacitors
I don't think it is either one. I think it is just the T-Con board or main board. Not sure which one tho. Going to replace one at a time and get back to everyone
@@blairrogers3450 Well we have replaced the LEDs, Power Supply board and the Tcon board...It has to be the main board like you are saying. If not, I am all out of options. Of course it is the last and only option left that fixes it. Dumb Luck
Good vid same tv as mine and went out today and followed these steps to test looks like I’m ordering new led strips. My voltage was slightly higher on the second led+ at 160-170V and 210V on the first. Thanks
What should I do? This started happening to my pc monitor, it blinks like that for 2-4 minutes before it starts working like usual, when I boot up the pc, there's no brightness loss or something like that however. I've used it extensively for years so maybe this is a sign that it's gona stop working soon? Or can it be fixed?
im pretty sure you have a blown out capacitor on your power supply. take it apart and look at the capasitors for any that look slightly bulged on top. you will have to remove and resolder new capacitors
Scored identical tv same prob at scrapyard. 2 dud led's- chiselled them off and soldered a bridge across the gaps and all other lights work full time. Damn problem as I had before.
same here,
i bought a replacement power control board off ebay (very reputable TV part supplier and the part has a warranty), just fitted it this arvo and still having the same issue. soo far $50 for new LEDs, $80 for new board. not likely to go any further. will recheck my LED connections again this weekend otherwise ill be replacing the whole thing.
My LG started doing this tonight, I've had it for 4-5 years nothing lasts forever but I've had "rubbish" makes brought cheap that seem to last forever
LG tv's are shit that's why.
Samething happened to mine fix my issue....bought a Vizio.
Vizio's basically have LG LEDs lol
So I need a multimeter, an LED tester, replacement parts and I have to remember how to put everything back together? All which will probably come from Amazon in multiple packages over a number of days.
Or...new TV from a store. hmmm, tough descision.
Me: let see how to repair it on you tube
You tube: 12 min vid
Me: On my way to brandsmart
😂😂😂
Wish I had a brandsmart closer to me.
Mine does that when I plug power then it stops I have brand new backlights in it
This was excellent, Thank you!
Ok so I did your method and when you disconnected the LED and tested it and when I did it the top Led+ on mine came out to say OL no numbers and the bottom LED+ said about 180 so does this mean I should just order a whole new set of LEDs?
if you disconnected the leds and the reading off the actual board was 0 then its ur power supply most likely
When my friend was describing it it sounded like a capacitor issue. I opened it hoping it would eb an easy fix, and then saw hundred of volts, rip my odds of using one that can handle 50
Hoping to conjure some help from this 5 year old video! Any reason you couldn't test the strips with the multimeter before taking off the back?
Where did you find what voltages you should read?
you look for the ratings on the capacitors on each side of the led socket and the voltage should be close to the ratings i think
Who else gave up and just started ripping parts off before just getting a new one?
Just to add I used a lab PSU to test my LED strips and found a couple of faulty ones. Replaced the full LED array and hey presto 👍🏼
Never did confim if it was the led strips as there is no part 2 to this video? I have the exact same TV, changed the leds and still flickering. Looks like it might be the power supply?
I have this tv and it’s doing the same just started do you think that it’s the lights if so how much did they cost you ? Thanks for video!!!
48.95 plus tax
Bonjour ducoup j'ai le même problème c'était quoi qu'il faudrait changer ?merci
Looks like the 49". I just tore into mine and looks exactly like yours.
I think it would be best to test the power supply first before tearing into the front. If the output is low replace it first.
its a 55". you measure diagonally. not straight across 55lf6100 the 55 stands for 55"
Replaced my leds in mine 4 years ago.
Thank you 😅
I got an oled sony 77 inch tv A9G that keeps flickering. Can you please help me fix it ?
Look for bulging capacitors. if tou can find them then most likely power board faulty
If you could flip the adapter, you could swap the LED's so you could find out if it was them or the power board.
but where do u get the led lights from
It is possible to know where lg smart tv what kind of LEDs need before I open up ?
Type on model number on alibaba
Ali express
Your testing of the LED+ leads without the cable attached would indicate a board problem; not LED strips. Since there are 8 strips being poered by two leads, each lead will feed 4 strips so the LED+ signal should measeure the same voltage when the strips are disconnected. The low voltage on the second lead when no load is present points to a board problem rather than the LED strips.
New TV it is....thanks !
Thank you i really hope this works
So I don't think it's me led lights, I believed it's my power. I tested like you showed and had under 100 on both sides and about the same from the other side while unplugged if I remember correctly. So I didn't see any other comments about that or any videos you posted about what to do if it wasn't the LED strips. Suggestions or can you put me in the right direction please. Thank you
On the led strips mines the other way around. One is about 180v and the other about 300+ volts.
I feel like a meer peasant amongst these men...
Where did you buy the light board?
internet
Have the same problem, replaced all the led strips amd still flicking so im assuming maybe the power supply?
Same here!!!
How did you resolved it?
How do i know what backlight strips to order?
U got a link for the led bulbs
Can someone help me find some safe to buy led strips? I only have two top row to change
After opening I noticed a Buzzing sound in sync with the screen flashing. Does this mean the power supply has gone bad?
9 months and still no answer
@@Rforce78 Use an in circuit capacitor tester it could be caps on the bords that gone bad.
So looks like I'm going to get another TV today! I know if I do this..Im going to break something 😂
very good video and useful too. unfortunately my lg is already fixed and am going to pay dearly.
How much did you pau
Pay
So whet does it mean when u get the same reading on both sides led 1 and led 2?the part that controls the leds might b bad eh?
It means it still works ok.
Turn the brightness down, close drapes dim lights in room. Everybody.
Did it end up being the LEDs or the power supply? Good video
I don't think it is either one. I think it is just the T-Con board or main board. Not sure which one tho. Going to replace one at a time and get back to everyone
@@fundamentalbear8347 I watched another video with same issue.... he changed the main board and it worked.... see if i can drop you the link
@@blairrogers3450 Well we have replaced the LEDs, Power Supply board and the Tcon board...It has to be the main board like you are saying. If not, I am all out of options. Of course it is the last and only option left that fixes it. Dumb Luck
@@fundamentalbear8347 Test the resistance in the ribbon cable strips
Yeahh thanks! Now I know the issue, buttt..if the unlatching doesn’t work than new tv for me. Good 6yr run… 🎉
Good vid same tv as mine and went out today and followed these steps to test looks like I’m ordering new led strips. My voltage was slightly higher on the second led+ at 160-170V and 210V on the first. Thanks
Let me know how the fix goes:)
Reassembled tv, carelessly cracked the screen doing so! Now have sound and backlight with no picture- I'll keep it for parts as i regularly score tellys for free! Bummer.
sucks to be careless
If only you showed how to detach the backing from The screen. Good luck to someone else getting it off
Good explanation blessings.
Thank you:) have a great day
