I lived and worked here for 6 months back in 1986 at the fish factory. There was about 8 of us foreigners.I remember flying in and there was snow everywhere and no daylight at that time of the year .I think it was January,by the time I left it was about June and the daylight was nearly 24 hours around the clock. We all had such a great time there thanks to the locals.Party Party Party, when the guys came in on the boats at the weekends!!! The locals never spoke english at all till they got drunk and then they wouldn't shut up,it was funny! There was a Kiwi girl living there that had married a icelandic boy called Lani from Rotorua, she was having a baby, wonder what happened to her??
This continues to be one of my favorite airport videos. I got so caught up in the scenery that I just realized what a perfectly timed 180 degree turn the pilot made. There was very little aileron adjustment. It is a perfect example of why we practiced all those hours on turns around a point when we were training for our certificates. Thanks again for sharing this video here.
I flew here 2 yrs ago as a tourist. The approach & the chance to fly a F50 was one of the reasons I visited Isafjordur. My flight was even more interesting than what is shown which starts off with AC running parallel to west side of fjord, heads south, pulls the 230 deg turn and lands. In my case what was exciting was getting into the fjord. Came low over the east side of fjord, dropped down across fjord & headed to a spot below west side of fjord, turned 90deg left then continued as in video.
Beautiful video. Beautiful scenery. Finally, someone who knows how to run a camera. Steady, with proper panning and zooming. This makes all the difference when viewing these. Thanks.
Iceland has the most fresh water and air in the world with lots of open space you dont find in overcrowded and polluted Europe! Its such a relief to breath in this refreshing air when u arrive from some polluted London or Berlin. Its like you come out of a cage to freedom. If you like freedom Iceland is the place!
Glad you posted this. My husband missed a plane landing because I needed to go and check out that interesting building that turned out to be a garbage dump! Definitely one of the scariest landing situations we've ever come across!
What an amazingly beautiful and serene place to live in. The people here have to some of the happiest in the world. Imagine getting up and seeing that valley, lake and sky every single day of your life. And it has an airport!
According to what a local told me, it's so far up north and so deep in the fjord that the sun barely shines on this town throughout the winter. Add that to the short daylight time and severe weather conditions of the Icelandic winters and you get a perfect recipe for depression.
@@osasunaitor Oh I see. In that case, they might have a longer exposure of the Milky Way in the night sky than the rest of us. I'm trying to see the positives here. And also arguing a bit, so, sorry.
The Icelandic nation is one of the most depressed nations in the world. We love our country but we are use to the beauty of it. The depression comes from lack of daylight for approx 7 months and than we get the rest in complete daylight 24/7
This video was a pleasure to watch. A truly stunning professional video taken by someone with the know how to capture it with a quality camera. Thanks for sharing this video. Astra
I love aviation; it mesmerizes me. And watching these planes doing all kind of crazy stuff to take off and land at difficult airports is quite entertaining.
I think I might know, actually :P I lived in Kodiak, Alaska for a few years before. It's a bit similar, very green in the summer with more trees. It's often called the Emerald Island. Incredibly beautiful, quiet, and remote. I miss it dearly. I'd visit (and probably never leave) this country in a heartbeat.
I'm from Iceland and I lived there (Ísafjörður) for 3 years and I often took flight to the capital city. This is clearly a video that is taken on a good weather day. In Iceland it's normal to have a high speed winds and often snow in this area! This is a very dangerous place to fly especially in winter. There are a lot of mountain winds at this point that can throw the plane in the mountains... So you who live where there is always sun should learn more about physics and conditions.
don't use that phrase, it marks you as another witless ninny who can't think of his own superlatives. Like a seagull. Like a dancer. Like a FEATHER. Like a kiss. Like a moonbeam. Like a cat on the roof. Like a caress. Like melting butter.
This flight was amazing ,the view from the window seat was awesome and the pilots were so smooth in the landing that it was just a pleasure . The town of Ísafjörður is like a place out of time , a quiet beautiful town with friendly people and a little Icelandic was helpful because some of them are not real fluent in English.
It must be ten years since I first saw this video, and it made me want to visit Iceland, and Isafjordur in particular. Well, this summer, I got there…..on a ship! What an amazing country!
I think it depends on person. Some dont like crowds and cities, others do. Iceland is not for everybody. Thats for sure but its has its charm whatver you say bcs its just different.
Easy landing. Quite different when the weather is nasty, which is most the time. Lost count of how many times I flew out there just to turn back because it was impossible to land
A very nice video from a very beautiful place in a very beautiful country. Also showing the skilled icelandic pilots. I have been looking at this video many times, and I am just as fascinated every time. Again, thank you!
I don't think it would be difficult at all if you are used to landing there, although, weather can certainly make a difference, viz, air currents, up and down-drafts, etc. Beautiful in good weather, and I like a challenging landing -- it keeps you on your toes!
Anton Bouchette sorry to disappoint you, I've been to Iceland a few times and met "black" people there... ... and they where much more friendly than some "white" people I met in America.
Jose - all you have to know about Iceland is that they came up with a cure for Down Syndrome, they test every fetus & if a fetus tests positive for Downs Syndrome, the baby is aborted! See, a cure. They are a satanic society. 🙏🏻
@@kayleeliu5617 I had a primitive flight simulator program once. Over time, without instruction or a manual, I figured out the controls. I remember my brother screaming at me once, "You're going to crash." I turned around and said, "It's only a cartoon." One thing you learn fooling around with a flight simulator program is how unforgiving flying can be. But, of flying, what W.C. Field once said in another context, "There may be something better, and there are many things worse, but there is nothing exactly like it," applies.
i've personally been on many air iceland flights like this and can attribute as to how good these pilots are. they all look like they're 17, are nuts, and can land in anything!
This is a pilot that shows great skill! South Africa also has some challenging terrain. I would like to come and do some adventure/sight seeing flights in Iceland one day!
I don't know...I went there for a couple of weeks during summer this year and when I first arrived in Keflavik and I was picked up by my friend, she could see that I was surprised there was nothing really to see in that area...when they showed me places well beyond there, I was in awe at all the scenery. There might not be many trees, but the vast nothingness that often appears there is also beautiful and interesting to photograph.
It's a shade below tricky, but not quite extreme. Love the pattern proximity to surrounding hills and such, however, and it makes for a very picturesque view. You're not lucky for the weather extremes, but the view is killer!

Other than the mountainside, the gully and river, the fjord, and the ultra-short approach, this is a pretty easy landing. (YEEESH!)

Nice video, he nailed that landing
What a smooth landing, barely a puff of smoke. Awesome camera work.
Threw it round and dropped it perfectly. Certainly not his first landing here, but much respect nevertheless. Neat indeed!
Extremely nice weather. Extremely quiet day. Extremely beautiful place.
Lovely stuff. Will have to make a visit one time. How many planes a day there just one or two I'm guessing?
Thank you. Yes that´s about right

I went there 4 months ago. This city is Wonderful! I made awesome drone videos over Iceland. Do you wanna know another Planet? Go to Iceland!
LANDSCAPE THAT WONDERFUL!
A PERFECT DAY TO FLY.
A GREAT DRIVER, WITH A BIT OF A HURRY, AND A GOOD PLANE LANDING AT EASE.
THANKS FOR VIDEO!

Halfdan, my compliments for your balanced yet subtle response :-). You made me smile ! Greetz from my homeland, The Netherlands.
Keep turning, keep turning, keep turning, ...now land!!!!
Turning 180º, restricted by its flap extended maximum bank angle, and roll out on centerline, on speed to touch down immediately is stunning talent.
