Lyrics:
Air sgiath a' seoladh nan neoil
'S an domhain liath
Mar dhealbh a' tighinn beo tro na sgothan
'S mi a' tilleadh gu tir
Alba nam beanntan ard
Nan acraichean lom
Thairis air na lochan mointich
Nan coilltean 's nan gleann
Ach 'se sealladh leointe is gann
Tha an seo aig ceann thall an linn
Talamh alainn nan daoine
Fhathast an lamhan duine no dithis
Cuibhlean stolda mu dheas
Na fasaichean a tuath
An taigh-mor falamh an Dun-Eideann
Gun chumhachd gun ghuth
*Sibhse chuir achadh ri achadh
Taigh ri taigh
Gus nach bi ait anns an tir
An gabh sibh comhnaidh air leth
Ach 's math dhomh bhith seo an drasd
A cur failt air a' bhlas
'San tir a tha cho you're dhomh an diugh
Is a bha I nuair bha mi 'nam phaisd
*Bho Isaiah 5-8
Scotland
This flight is sailing through the see
Louds
And the blue heavens
The homeland appears like a developing photograph
Through the mists as I return to land
I see Scotland of the high mountains
And the empty acres
Flying low across the moorland lochs
The forests and the glens
But it's
A wounding and a hollow sight
Here as we reach the end of the century
The beautiful soil of the people
Still in the hands of the few
I see the wheels of industry at a standstill
And the northern lands wasted
And the empty house in Edinburgh
Withou
T authority or voice
You that have laid field upon field
House upon house
Till there be nowhere for you to be placed alone
In the midst of all the earth
But it is good for me to be here now
As I welcome the warmth
In this land that's as exciting
For me today
As it was the day I was born
I came of age in the '80s and I always hated going out dancing back then because I thought I was terrible at it. Watching these old videos makes me realize I wasn't any worse than anybody else. I would have had a much better time in the clubs if I'd realized this back then.
As an Englishman I haven’t a clue what he’s singing but I know Alba means Scotland and having lived in Scotland as an Englishman for 23yrs I can honestly say it’s a beautiful country worth singing about.

You don't have a clue? You didn't notice the English subtitles and translation at the bottom of this video?

The empty house mentioned and is being pointed to in the video is the old Royal High School, which was going to be where the reconvened Scottish Parliament was to be, but for the sneaky trick Labour pulled on our devolution.
You can find an English translation of the lyrics in the Description under this video, along with the original lyrics in Scottish Gaelic. Click on "...more" to display the full text, links, etc.
This is one of the only songs that can make me cry.
My name....Alba.... Thank Alba (Scotland) for having us and protected us. I carry and cherish your name for Lifetime. 🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️
My house name, ALBA. After falling in love with RUNRIG. ♥.
Stirring stuff and a reminder that Scotland is still under England's cosh.
Seriously. This is about the song not your prejudice against English
Wish Runrig we still a group. Awesome x
The lyrics are all about Scotlands fight long long long fight for Independence and a scottish government govering all of of Scotland not just like a chosen few as that mob doon the road do. It will be the happiest day of my life when my fantastic country gets FULL INDEPENDENCE ohhh i long for that day and then hopefully a full democratic republic now that is not gonna happen in my life but for the future generations of Scots i hope above all. SCOTLAND " SCOTLAND" THE BRAVE !!!! ALBA FOREVER.

What year ?
1990 I think
@@Fee212 1987, most likely, given the album The Cutter and the Clan - which features this song- came out that year.
1987...I remember as I got into Runrig the year before. Alba was released as a single in 1987.
i wish the lyrics translated werent soo bad quality i wish there wasa way for me to learn scots gaelic for free haha but theres not :(
You can learn Gaelic for free on Duolingo :)
@@Suicey now if only i had the time haha i work 40hrs a week in a highly physically demanding job meaning i literally just eat sleep and work but also its not the same while learning online as i wouldnt have the same support in the learning process of a new language

Donnie munro was a poor mans simple minds. The other vocal man in run rig was the real force.... Beautiful vocal
I love Runrig and our Edinburgh City but jeezo, this has to be one of the worst music videos ever 😂 it’s so bad it’s epic!!
😂
Welcome to the '80s lol
Groovy dancing, plenty of air punching.
As much as I enjoy Runrig...it's the bad Chris De Burgh dad dancing of Donnie Munro that just gets you with this video!. I suspect as well this is where all the disaffected SNP supporters are going to defect to over the current mess...was thinking they'll need a new home...
💙🤍💙
Great song,,,, but ohhhh,, that dancing is horrific!
