Great video, you are the first video I have even seem that shows the cleaning of the cooler. I've always wondered why they don't have some plugs on the bottom so every now and then you could drain out the oil that builds up.

They don't want Do it Yourself types not taking them in to the service centers.
40 years working on on light and heavy equipment, trucks, I've seen them change things for no other reason than to discourage owners.
In the 80s I was still working on Heavy Equipment and heavy trucks from the 50s, 60s, they were tough and built to be field serviced. In fact ads from the 40s, 50s stressed that Brand X was better than the others because they were designed to be serviced in the field saving the customer down time and money.
      Not anymore.

It's the simple things like this I never knew about is why I enjoy your videos so much. I've wondered about a good way to clean one and if it was worth it. Now I know. Thanks again.

Grew up in the Trucking Business, 1960's, 70's and all of our Cummins, Cats, and Detroit powered trucks had a direct vent tube hanging a side the motor... puffing and dripping oil :) So now my 7.3 has a phat hose a Puffing :) Now I neeed clean the mess on my boots and Y pipe due to oil vapers making a mess of a Good Looking Motor!

Purple power is great stuff but it is corrosive so rinse thoroughly I use it on my bmw x5 35d to clean the intake because the dpf and egr just make it look like a fireplace chimney full of creosote

Wow Clint, never thought about cleaning the Intercooler! That's why you got the best 7.3 content Bar None on our beloved 7.3 NaviStar Power Strokes 😎 And I've always wanted to do the CCV mod but will now, tired of the oiling of my boots at the Y pipe and intercooler!

I could’ve sworn I’ve seen several RUclipsrs warn people not to do the CCV mod because of some kind of positive or negative pressure that you cause by doing it that in the long run ends up causing problems I don’t remember who it was I’ve subscribed to so many powerstroke RUclipsrs it’s hard to remember I just remember not doing it after watching the videos warning not to do it.

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD I watched your video on the ccv mod and it makes sense now to me that it was only there for epa reasons and I’m sure all the videos I saw against probably got it from bill lol thx for the videos I’ll be looking into doing the mod to mine now as well I just flipped 150k on my early 99.

Any post cleaning results you can share? On my OBS 7.3l with aftermarket CAC I see a reduction of 3-6 lbs of boost pressure from the intake side to the engine side and wondered if cleaning it would reduce this pressure drop? EGT's drop after cleaning too?

Clint I highly trust any and ALL advice you give. Purple Power isn't good on aluminum from what I've heard. However being it's used on the inside of the Intercooler the discoloring of the aluminum doesn't matter. Correct?
Regardless I'm doing this exactly like you say too.

    • @HumanityAwakenZ

I did this over the weekend and OMG the amount of oil I removed could have done a complete oil change 🤣
What a difference it made! I have a 01 f350 Cab Chassis with a custom welding bed on it. The poor girl has been seriously neglected. I work on it every week repairing and maintenance. She's all original. Once all the problems are ironed out, then I'll start doing small upgrades.
But it wouldn't be possible if I hadn't found Clint!!!!
