    Some people love collecting teams, or "completing" rosters, and will buy just about anything. In this case, a lot of people were on the hook for the entire wave just because they want all the Reavers. Hasbro milks these people big time. Many don't even care what the things look like, just that without the things, they feel like their collection is incomplete. Consume product and then look forward to next product. A lot of them are already bored of their toys by the time they arrive because they're waiting for their next preorders instead!

    • @tonyiommisg
      @tonyiommisg 2 года назад +3

      Exactly this. It's the same in every toy line. I'm in Mafex groups, Storm Collectibles Groups, Figuarts, etc and you get a bunch of people who buy regardless of quality because they "have to" and they even complain that they have to buy it. It's so infuriating to see, it's just like, don't buy it then!! Then we could all benefit because it'd force companies to have to make better figures. I think these people have legit addiction problems, it's the same as the people ruining games with buying all the microtransactions and randomized loot (loot boxes).

    Sabretooth was a more average-sized guy back in the 80’s, but that’s not the version fans like. There’s a reason he’s been a towering mass of muscle and claws for 30 years. The suit design is recognizable as Sabertooth, but your review nails just how lazy this figure is.
    This head (which does look like Willam DeFoe impersonating Jim Carrey), hands and feet on an Omega Red body makes a much bigger impact as a custom someone posted online

      Ehhh, he was "average" in a world full of people built like Arnold in his prime but if you look at his first fight with Luke Cage, he was about as sizeable as Luke, and even in his first panel appearance he was still a much more imposing silhouette than this figure. The Face-Off version of the character is fairly on point, but this one is really wonky.

      McFarlane as weird as some of his figures are, he is at least putting effort in the releases and is receptive to feedback from the DC collectors. NECA doesn’t have a single original property and they do wonders. Mattel doesn’t own some of their licenses and do good work for the most part. The Hasbro Legends and Star Wars are lazy because the fans buy everything that’s bad and say it’s amazing.

    Hasbro have made it so easy for people to move to other products, especially with Marvel legends. In the past they were cheap and cheerful, where you could realistically buy 3 to 1 Marvel legends to other brands. at that point you could accept some failings. Now however, with the price creep and reduction in accessories, they are quickly becoming an easy pass.

      They'll eventually make a more proper, large Sabertooth that'll use a newer, bigger buck and will either charge $40+ for a deluxe or have him be part of a 2pack. They know which Sabertooth most people want, and they're banking on that fact to string collectors along until they've exhausted all other versions of the characters.

    @brenoferreiraferreira4409 2 года назад +1

    Quality is very important to me specially since I love action figures per se and not only the franchises or characters associated with them.
    I buy loads of lines from loads of companies, Marvel Legends aren't the main focus of my collection and I tend to look at them as a whole with loads of characters, as I do with Neca TMNT and SH Figuarts DB/DBZ/Super and GT. Those are three of the four lines where I collect almost every character that's released. The forth is Transformers, both official and 3rd party, masterpiece and legends scaled. From those four, the first three I buy because I love the comics and the animations, the forth I buy because I love the engineering and the character designs.
    I collect a lot more companies and lines but I normally pick and chose taking quality into consideration. Some times I even I buy characters I don't know just because the action figure is amazing, I particularly love original designed a. figures.
    I normally have a very clear idea of what I want in my displays and how I want them to look before I start buying the figures. I buy those three above mentioned lines because I love the franchises and I want as many characters as possible from each one of them. Even though as individual action figures some are definitively not amazing, when displayed correctly as a very big group they will most definitively look amazing.
    If I had to spend as much for each ML as I do for each Storm Collectibles, Mafex or Mezco one:12 I wouldn't be able to own so many different Marvel comics characters or display them in the way I plan to.
    There is another display form I use where the quality of some action figures is underwhelming. I have a special shelve with some of my favorite lose movie, comics, game and animation characters, each will be represented by 5, 6 or 7 different interpretations, made by different companies, using different styles, materials and scales. I can start with a Flame Toys Kuro Kara Kuri and then go through a 1/6 Hot Toys, a 1/12 Mafex, a 1/18 Hiya toys, a chibi Nendoroid, a lego minifigure and end with a monochromatic mini figure, as long as all of them are of the same exact character (I may choose different character versions as long as all of them are in different scales and styles but I normally try to go with the exact same character version).
    In the end Marvel Legends serve their purpose in my displays but I will never fail to manifest my opinion and critics, regarding both their bad marketing strategies and the poor quality of their products, I'm not a fan boy. Even though I don't need or expect Marvel Legends to be perfect I would like them to be as good as possible. Most of the issues Anthony points out would be solvable without any financial investment on Hasbro behalf and if we organize and plan to enforce Hasbro into taking responsibility through boycotting some releases, I'm up for it. I'm not whiling to do it alone because it would only damage my collection, it wouldn't damage Hasbro or get a point across but if as I said the collectors organize and do it together... I'm most definitively in.

    I've collected marvel legends for quite a few years now and along with some TMNT, ML is all I really collect (with an odd neca, mafex, ect figure shoved in there) and I have to mostly agree with what you're saying. The quality has been on a slow decline for a while... at the same time, they're putting new technology into the figures. ...it really almost seems like they're TRYING to get people to stop buying ML figures. With the price hike, decline in overall quality and the windowless boxes, it's amazing that anyone still buys most of them. I will say that, when they do a good figure, it's usually a pretty damn good figure. But the good/bad ratio, definitely not in our favor these days. That Sabretooth looks like a dollar tree figure. I have been saying for the last year that Hasbro ML needs a Brand Manager that will champion the cause. I don't need a Marvel comics fan as the Manager, I just need someone who will be able to compare the product they represent and compare it to others - then accept or not accept holding complete responsibility. 3/10 seems very gracious for this. It has already peg-warmed in Canada for sometime now. 1st appearance - based on the Iron Fist comic - no I do not think so. Google it first before designing it please.
    Much like the recent Venom product from Hasbro recently, I have seen nothing about this product that would appear as an upgrade to my DST MS Sabretooth (a 10 year old figure by-the-way), it is not even close.

    I hope we get a Jim Lee sabertooth on the omega red body eventually.
    I honestly don't hate this body but it's the proportions are wrong. I put the magneto fore arms and shins on this body from a Red Guardian and it works okay. I like the idea of a stockier build but the arms and legs are too tubular and narrow to mesh. It's disappointing that they make a buck and basically never touch it for 10 years. It would be nice to see some iteration and improvement. Mattel's WWE figures surprise me because they're engineered to be entirely modular, boil and popping them is action figure Legos. They're far from perfect but it let's them tweak or add components.

You are the pioneer, though!

    the head's too big, it looks like a toy while being priced like a collectible. just bad all around. if you really like this suit, the next best thing is the face off one which goes for like 30 bucks on ebay and looks infinitely better despite the infamously shoddy qc on the face off figures.

    Can Anthony just become the sole owner of the Marvel Legends License at this point? Or at least be the exclusive sculptor for them? Ok if nothing else, can they at least consult with somebody that knows anything about anatomy, or proportions, or figure engineering, or anybody capable of cognoscente decision making with regards to action figures and their relation to source material?

    They should have at least used omega red body and use the holes on the shoulder as the socket for the furry thing on his shoulder, or the caliban baf body.
    It may not be perfect but those are better than this body.

    Question of the day: I hate this version of Sabretooth, and I agree that this figure is even worse than that. I don’t understand why Hasbro has such a difficult time making figures of Sabretooth, the best so far is the AoA Sabretooth, and even then that figure isn’t that good either. I think Hasbro said a Jim Lee Sabretooth is coming somewhere down the line, I just hope it uses the Omega Red body mold and not the Colossus body mold.

    Hasbro are slowly killing their own company. It's like they're trying to copy the MCU 🤣
    I only buy the characters I like, I don't go for teams because some are just awful. My shelves are MCU, spiderman, 90s X-Men and villains.
    The thing that really annoys me with Hasbro is they add something new (pinless joints, better faces, toe articulation, drop down hips, etc) but then they don't do it across the board. Not all characters need this stuff but if you can do it and you raise prices, then you should do it.

    Marvel Legends have been feeling more and more soulless as the years go on. At this point, It seems that Hasbro cares more about making easy money off subpar figures rather than quality figures that revolutionize the toy scene like Legends used to be known for.
    Hopefully someone makes a good Jim Lee style Sabretooth figure at some point...
