Marvel is my favorite entertainment property and is the line of figures that I have collected the longest. Legends is also the line that I'm most familiar with and involved with (with regards to forums, comments, reviews, whatever). What I mean to say is that I pay the most attention to Legends. That said, I can probably count on one hand the number of Legends I've gotten so far this year. Shocker, Zemo, Anniversary Cap, Retro Symbiote, Ben Reilly, Rhino, Walmart Strange, Ulik. I think that's it. We're more than halfway through the year and I've bought less than 10 figures, of the cheapest, most accessible line of my favorite property because those are only figures that I thought were worth the price, and it's really sad. I wish there were more figures that I wanted to buy. So I took that money and put it into other lines line NECA TMNT, Mythic Legions, Classified series, Action Force. I'm honestly a much happier collector and I don't really miss Legends. Out of all the lines I pick up now, Legends is the only one that gives me buyers remorse. It's the only one where I'll buy a figure and be let down or wonder why I wasted money on the figure. No other line has done that. To me, this line appears to me like a successful line that collectors are buying up like crazy, they are selling well and so they have no drive to improve them. It's more likely that they're receiving even more pressure to widen the profit margin because they are so popular. They feel cheaper than ever, despite costing more than ever and raising prices at a higher percentage than every other line. They're simply not worth it anymore. I still enjoy following the line, but it's mostly out of the hope that they announce something that I look forward to picking up again.
When I compare my Neca Turtles shelf to Marvel Legends, it makes the ML prices really hard to justify. Not only do the figures generally look better, but they also come with enough different stuff to add some character to the shelf.
@@TheMattTrakker Yep! It made sense when Legends were only 20 bucks, but now that they're basically 28-32, there's just no comparing it with other lines. Painted base bodies with a pair of hands just doesn't cut it when you can get fully painted and uniquely sculpted figures with interesting accessories for like 3 dollars more than what a Legends is
Same here. Only got a handful of figures. Lost interest in the MCU because almost everything post Endgame hasn’t been very good. I’m also noticing that they’re putting less accessories and effort into figures in a wave. Sometimes you only get a new headsculpt and everything else is reuse. The ones that are up to par with previous years are pack in with less desirable figure. I want a Mojo but I don’t really want to pay $130 for him plus Long Shot, Mini Wolverine, and a third freaking Dazzler. Might cancel this and if they release Mojo I’ll bite. Sick of Hasbro playing games.
I'm in the exact same boat as you. Marvel Legends has been my mainstay for years, but this year I bought.... 20th Cap, Shocker, Hammerhead, Zemo, Jigsaw, classic Strange, and Ulik (plus a couple of old figures that are on discount). Yes, that's still less than 10. I too have been reallocating my toy budget to other lines, but gosh, how the mighty have fallen.
I actually don't mind a Siryn figure. I was introduced to the character through the 90s Deadpool comics and I really loved her dynamic with Wade. With that said, this figure makes me question what's the point of owning this. She has this boring, plain-Jane face that lacks any of the stylistic comic book design features that these characters have. Her box art has her with big eyes and a very stylistic face. This one looks too realistic and feels more like a woman cosplaying as Siryn rather than Siryn the character. Also, the no screaming face is such a turn-off. Why would I want a figure of a superhero if I can't pose him or her doing a character-specific pose? What's the point of having a Captain America figure if he doesn't have his shield? What's a Spider-man figure without his thwipping hand? Screaming is her superpower. They sculpted the hair to fit a screaming pose but now it just looks weird without it. And the cherry on top is that this is $25. $25 for a poor plastic representation of a character. Yeah, she's pretty niche, but it's no excuse. The funny thing is if I were to say all this on Reddit, the Hasbro ML fanboys would probably hunt me down 😂
Bro, even Mattel is improving. They put more effort into naked dudes in their undies (just realized that applies to both WWE and He-Man. Lol) than Hasbro does to Spider-Man, one of the top 3 most popular heroes. Single joints are better when they have the range of a double.
You can do single jointed elbows/knees with enough range if theyre constructed right. It depends on the figure and budget. Also, I'd rather have a single joint with good range that looks good than a double joint that looks a mess.
For what it's worth, your persistence with this line is always appreciated. Legends has become Kitchen Nightmares - soul-crushing, I'm assuming, for you entertainers but good value entertainment for the viewers, and more importantly, it says what needs to be said. The more vocal criticism there is against half-arsed figure like this, the better. It's honestly revolting how many buyers seem to unironically (and happily) embody the fanboy mentality parodied in satires like The Nerd Crew.
With the pricing going up and the amount of reused parts, at this point I think we should at min get an extra set of hands, and an expressive head alongside a more neutral head.
You're crazy in reviewing Siryn this way, Anthony. Can't believe you. Anyway, can I interest you in a new Wolverine figure with no claw hands for $30? Or Gambit with no cards? What about Spider-Man with no webbing or thwip hands?
I don’t even like Marvel or collect anything superhero related but these reviews are super entertaining and helped me convince my friend to not jump down the Marvel Legends rabbit hole
Yup. I wanted a Syrn for my 90's X-men shelf and of course double-jointed elbows are the bare minimum now, at least for most characters. Having said that, in cases where the character is wearing a coat or very baggy clothing, I can accept the hit to articulation. My main problem with this one is the head. If ever there were a time to give us an alternate screaming head, this was it. Kudos to Hasbro for masterfully missing the opportunity that was staring them right in the face, jumping up and down and wearing a t-shirt marked "I AM A HUGE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR FIGURE NOT TO SUCK!" in neon lettering. Takes a real commitment to mediocrity. You gotta respect that.
Q of the day answers: 1 honestly don't even know who siryn is 2 depends on the character, for people like spider man we need a double jointed elbow but on characters like batman I'm fine with a single, same with big characters like bane or rhino. This figure is very strange, I don't understand some of the choices they made with the execution
The lack of a screaming head really holds this one back. I'd be willing to forgive the other problems with this figure but in my little knowledge of this character, she needed a yelling head. It's like having Wolverine without his claws, Cyclops without his visor, Thor without his hammer, her superpower can't be replicated for display unless what, she's throwing her voice? And for $27 with tax, it's inexcusable. I vastly prefer double-jointed arms across the board except in cases where the character doesn't necessarily need them. In Siryn's case, I'd opt for the old arms if it meant we got the screaming head, save the new arms for another figure who could use them.
I agree. I wanna like Hasbro Marvel Legends, but they keep getting lazy or they don’t want to improve. I use to not like McFarlane DC Universe, but they’ve definitely improved. Overall they always had better sculpt, and now their articulation has improved, and best of all, they’ve hung around that $20 price point, where Legends keeps creeping up. I think I’m good with the preorders that I have, unless there is an amazing figure, I’m done. Although at least their GIJoe line looks good.
To answer the questions of the day, yes, I did want a Syrin for my X-Force roster, and yes double-jointed elbows have become important although I didn't really care that much about them, say, two years ago. Anthony, I think you might have been severe, but you do have good points, so I don't know. I think the pic with her arms raised up on the sides, the one before she's lying face down on the floor, looks quite beautiful, but I think it might mostly be the pose and the head sculpt. And yeah, I'm missing the screaming head a whole lot.
I really liked this lady in cosplay made out of crap figure review lmao. The best part about these marvel legends is the funny reviews people do. I've never heard of siryn tbh and double jointed elbows are pretty important, especially if its a super hero figure. i want to be able to do super hero poses so more articulation is better.
“You guys have been asking for Banshee for a decade? What if we gave you a half-ass version of his daughter instead?” I’m expecting to be bummed out when they announce the “cel shaded” animated Banshee and ruin it as badly as they ruined Morph, who just looks like a generic bro wearing a jacket.
Double joints are important for current and future figures. Eventually will get there as they phase out old body molds. But sooner rather than later would be ideal.
Papa Tony!👏🏾 Congrats again on the new addition. The lack of an alternate headsculpt here is a real travesty. I guess the budget was spent on the pin less body and BAF piece.
I just got started collecting Marvel Legends (and figures) in March and I'm already nearly out of the hobby because of how bland and overpriced these newer Legends releases have been compared to ones from just a few years ago (which are the ones I've mostly been buying). Most of the 2022 releases just feel so soulless and phoned in. I've quickly realized that this seems to be direction forward for the line, and I can't see myself being a part of that future.
ACqotd: With an old Banshee sitting on the shelf, I needed a Banshee NOT a Siryn. But if Hasbro's ML brand is going to produce a Banshee with the same effort as this one, I will wait. 6/10 is a generous score. Hasbro needs a Brand Manager that cares about the products and is proud of the effort required to get things made or not made correctly. Yours must be the most difficult job of all though. Reviewing Hasbro's ML products nowadays isn't what it was in the glory years, when ML had something to prove. Just a quick gander at their previous years output, 2022 is a sorry mess compared to those bygone years and that must make for a very long day for you.
With the prices going up I just gave up on all marvel legends. It's like "yes we want more money to make them but we're not going to put the time and effort into it because you're going to buy them."
Ha. You shut yourself down quick on the sleep struggles. Good luck with the kiddo. And... No, I don't think Siryn is unique enough for me to choose her over Banshee, so wasn't waiting for this one.
I think the biggest issue is that ppl keep buying Marvel legends. They're trash! Yall stop buying these garbage figures just for a bit and let Hasbro start upgrading the quality. We know they can make good action figures just look at there GI Joe line and compare those figures with marvel legends. Not saying there perfect figures but at least they look like they have effort put into them. Just stop buying Marvel legends that way they start to realize that they can't get away with this crap anymore. Give us figures that COLLECTORS want not mcdonald toys 😮💨
I care, Anthony. I sympathise on the lack of sleep, my youngest was a terrible sleeper and still is at four years old (night waking, early starts). I hope overall you’re all doing good though and that fatherhood is treating you well. Turning to the figure, yeah, it’s lazy crap again isn’t it. Glad I passed. When I see these things now my brain does a little mini-Anthony’s Custom’s review based on look (“oh look, lollipop”, “another dreadful set of shoulders”, “calves are too long again”), it’s great really. Why on earth is Hasbro sinking budget into new pin-less moulds for limbs and not correcting the anatomy? It’s like you always say, it’s not going to cost more to do it right. We come back round again to that lazy approach. People still buy them.
Q of the Day: I did want a Siryn, but there are at least a dozen female characters I wanted more. As for her facial expression looking like she doesn’t to be there, would you want to be in a Marvel Legends wave circa 2022? Although if I was her, I’d look more pissed off that bored as in “I’m so pissed off that I wasn’t released prior to 2020!”
She’s now on clearance at Target for $12, I’m glad I waited it out before purchasing. But whyyy doesn’t she have an alternate screaming head or splayed alternate hands, like she looks on the box art?!
Congrats on the little one. I was wondering if you'd consider doing a video about the Hasbro Selfie Series coming later this year? I'd love to hear your thoughts since Hasbro has been offering less with their figures lately and now dabbling into the customs route.
It would be really interesting to know if more people are buying legends now than like 4 to 6 years ago. I feel like around the past 6 years legends quality has declined steadily each year.
QotD: No, I don't care about Siryn. I can barely be made to care about Banshee, so I definitely don't need She-Banshee. As for the other question, yes, I do want double-jointed elbows on my figures. If a figure is exceptionally beefy where the second joint isn't adding much, then fine, put the money towards something else, but for 99% of super hero types the elbows should be double-jointed. Whoever is in charge of Marvel Legends these days must be some leftover from the early 2000s when corporate execs wanted super heroes to be dull, lifeless, and devoid of bright colors. Marvel Legends seems too consumed with making these characters look like real people and not like the artwork that made the fans fans in the first place. The line feels worthless at this point and it's a shame the license is basically too expensive for any other company to take it over.
I just got her because her costume fits in with Jim Lee's X-Men designs perfectly. Greg Capullo somehow captured Lee's design philosophy. But yeah, the lack of a yelling head sucks. I read this facial expression as serene, so I'm fine with it.
I was looking forward to this figure and the Wolverine from this wave. I liked them enough that I paid retail 💁♂️ hopefully since they aren't that popular, I can pick them up on clearance 😁👍 Also, an alternate screaming head and action effects would have been cool 😎
Personally, i prefer double jointed elbows. But I don’t mind if it’s single jointed elbows, since most of my figures aren’t in a pose that needs their elbow to bend more than 90 degrees.
I remember i think it was your retro ben Reilly vid where u said mafex is 4-5 times more expensive but distant quality-wise frorm marvel legends which led me to buying one (mafex venom). I have to say, i love having new figures a month by hasbro but not as much as having a new mafex per three to five months and actually enjoying it. Thanks ant I'll prolly switch lines unless for obscure characters mafex does not create.
Great review, this figure is a bummer to see it poorly done. I'm hoping that new Walgreens exclusive Sentry is a good release seeing as he's my favorite Marvel character. Will you be reviewing him by the way? I hope so.
I have wanted a Siryn figure for a long time because of her part in the Deadpool story line. I won't be getting this figure though. It is terrible. You said it all. "Some lady in cosplay made out of crap". I have pretty much given up on Marvel Legends and I've been a collector since the beginning.
I would've preferred a new classic version of Sean Cassidy (Banshee) but I also wanted his daughter (Siryn) so I'm OK with the character choice. It looks like there was no effort put into to it because there was actually no effort put into it. I agree with everyone of your critics, thanks for the review Anthony.
"This looks like some lady in cosplay". So basically how these characters look nowadays in most comics and the MCU. This is COMPLETELY intentional, so you're right on the money. Not criticizing your points, btw. At all. You're probably the only reviewer accurately describing these releases.
I have been waiting for this video from you!! and you didn't disappoint. As I tell everybody since they announced this figure: The sculptor seems to have picked a female friend/sister/girlfriend to put on an action figure as a way to get cred. Too real, and real boring. She's definitely wearing a pajama version of her 90s costume.. that's why there's no musculature, or thigh straps. the no screaming head is what really frustrates me, and the crayola hair.
I like her costume but not her as a character really. And as a fig yeah treading water, like you say and they could easily tip into the right direction but for some reason they just don't
Dwight claims they sculpted a screaming head for SYRIN, but says they couldn’t include it because of the budget, but will include it in a future two pack with SYRIN and probably BANSHEE. HASBRO always has a lame ass excuse for their lazy, cheap, trifling ways😒🤨🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Yeah I wasn’t too pleased with this one either, the head kills me, it looks like that girl from the lovely bones and she is not cute at all and then of course no screaming head
Was your inappropriate comment going to be basic b%#@hes? She does look like one, with a tasty fruit roll-up cape. Thanks for another fantastic review Anthony💗💯😽🤟❣️💋💯
As a figure it's not doing anything cool. It's not even a good representation of the character. Well, I think ML are still worth collection depending on what you of course want in a figure. There are a lack of alternatives. If you want Siryn for example, where else are you going to get one? Also she's a pretty major character. We aren't talking about some one issue a year character. Hasbro though(and not just them) seem to trip all over themselves when designing women. Their is this obsession that the toy can't imply women have organs or muscles. Hasbro in this case is worse in that they have one female body mold for Marvel Legends. Of course they aren't improving, they use the same body for all the female characters. The men have a good selection from slender to hulk sized. If Hasbro want to change this idea that female characters don't sell, they need to stop treating them like very mediocre budget figures. They need to dump that body and wow us with some new rebuilt from the ground up bodies that marry that superhero aesthetic without being designed just for the male gaze(Itty bitty waist, large breasts, large buttocks). Also they need to be highly articulated like the male figures. Seriously female character designs are a lot of comic book history simply were not treated with respect. Beyond that some folks on reddit/twitter pointed out the obvious. If you don't know this character. You have zero clue what their superhero abilities are. Can she fly? You don't know. Can she use sonic based powers? You don't know. There is nothing they implies and demonstrates her abilities. Why should anyone buy this figure if they don't know the character. I have opinions on Mcfarlane's character choices but when he was showing the figures off on Facebook, he described what made the figure cool. I couldn't do that for this Siryn figure. You get a Wolverine figure, you got his claws and the ability to pose him in a feral way. A good Cyclops has optic blasts.
Isn't this a 27 dollar figure. I think you are asking for way too many accessories for such an inexpensive figure. Plus any positives the figure has you gloss over them really quick and then drone on about the things you don't like. It's not perfect but it's not horrible. let's take it easier on cheaper figures and save the venom for mafex, sh figuarts, and super 7
You think 27 dollars is cheap for a figure from Hasbro? Are you new? These were 20 less than a year ago. Mc still makes 20 figures... With new sculpts. Why in the world would you make an argument for getting less for you money?... Let alone from the company who makes billions in net revenue
@@AnthonysCustoms Sorry if i thought 27 dollars isn't alot of money for an action figure when the competition who also makes a ton money charges 2 to 3 times that. I think we should temper our expectations on asking for the world when we aren't paying premium prices. Now if i was paying 50-100 dollars i would expect more. But for 27 i like the sculpt and it will fit in with the collection. Yesterday prices aren't today's prices....

The face looks less like a young superhero and more like someone’s mom. Maybe the mom of the young lady on awesome box art.

They just didnt gaf here. Slapped it together, “here you go. “
No Alt head, No flying hands, No character specific Accessory........the X-force team is a mash of eras.....sad.
Hasbro might be failing at Marvel legends right now, but the Joes are knocking it out of the park.
Picked up Siryn figure because one of my favorite comic runs is X-Factor volume 2 where Multiple Man runs a detective agency.
One of my purchases that I should have waited until your review. 😩
I didn't know who Siryn was until this review.
Double joints elbows are important bc they give the figure more range then single
Syren? More like *SILENCE* 🥁
Boom roasted
Q of the Day: I did want a Siryn, but there are at least a dozen female characters I wanted more. As for her facial expression looking like she doesn’t to be there, would you want to be in a Marvel Legends wave circa 2022? Although if I was her, I’d look more pissed off that bored as in “I’m so pissed off that I wasn’t released prior to 2020!”
The problem is that we keep buying them, ha. Besides that, the characters aren’t that well known, so they don’t spend much on these characters.
She’s now on clearance at Target for $12, I’m glad I waited it out before purchasing.
But whyyy doesn’t she have an alternate screaming head or splayed alternate hands, like she looks on the box art?!
Siryn is so awesome and she is the daughter of Banshee of the X-Men. She is a perfect mutant
I love how by the time you get to the wrist articulation, you are completely deflated on this figure. Glad I passed on this one.
Congrats on the little one. I was wondering if you'd consider doing a video about the Hasbro Selfie Series coming later this year? I'd love to hear your thoughts since Hasbro has been offering less with their figures lately and now dabbling into the customs route.
Damn, parenting is difficult... Anyway, great review as always man!
It would be really interesting to know if more people are buying legends now than like 4 to 6 years ago. I feel like around the past 6 years legends quality has declined steadily each year.
It's ok to get off topic for a few seconds. You can tell us about your family if you want to Anthony😂
I know you have to be worn out, but I always enjoy your daily reviews! Hope you can catch up on some sleep soon.
This is like making a Wolverine figure with no claws. Or Cyclops with no visor. Or Shocker with no bubble effects that we’ve seen a billion times👎
I was looking forward to this figure and the Wolverine from this wave. I liked them enough that I paid retail 💁♂️ hopefully since they aren't that popular, I can pick them up on clearance 😁👍
Also, an alternate screaming head and action effects would have been cool 😎
Personally, i prefer double jointed elbows. But I don’t mind if it’s single jointed elbows, since most of my figures aren’t in a pose that needs their elbow to bend more than 90 degrees.
I was waiting on this review before pulling the trigger on this. Thanks for saving me money again.
Hasbro just wants to check boxes on their comic character list and make them as cheaply as possible. No yelling head for a SIREN??
Yikes the lollipop syndrome is really bad on a lot of these figures. You think they'd at least fix that by now
Those clowns at Hasbro don’t know shit
Facedown Siryn is the best
No but I want banshee. Double jointed elbows are very important.
I definitely want a Syrin figure…just not this one.
do they have the same body as shriek? minus the pinless stuff
I got mine for 16 bucks after tax and even that feels like too much for this figure. I feel bad for people paying price for these.
I like her costume but not her as a character really. And as a fig yeah treading water, like you say and they could easily tip into the right direction but for some reason they just don't
Yeah, she is Banshee's daughter right? With the same mutant power, so where's the screaming head? 🤔 Come on Hasbro
Mhm
Zup Anthony , thanks for the video
Have you reviewed the Spider-noir figure? If not, get it! Your in for a lazy treat.
no. it's not comic-based so i dont care. i dont need the movie figures in my collection
unless you mean the older comic one... then, yes.
But…but it has pinless tech bro its soo worth it!!
I haven't got any Marvel Legends in 2022, most of the new figures looks so awful and cheap looking that I wouldn't display it even if it was free.
The way the head is sitting on the body is horrific
I wanted it but meh
Dwight claims they sculpted a screaming head for SYRIN, but says they couldn’t include it because of the budget, but will include it in a future two pack with SYRIN and probably BANSHEE. HASBRO always has a lame ass excuse for their lazy, cheap, trifling ways😒🤨🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
"we want to sell the body again with a new head"
Yeah I wasn’t too pleased with this one either, the head kills me, it looks like that girl from the lovely bones and she is not cute at all and then of course no screaming head
I care about your daughter not sleeping. When you get more kids you’ll be perpetually tired and it’s going to feel weird when your not tired.
Dang
I'm skipping this wave and just gonna buy the BAF on ebay.
Don't even buy that. It's not good
it's going for 16 bucks now.....
Would you make a screaming head ?
Not likely. The character doesn't have broad enough appeal.
Was your inappropriate comment going to be basic b%#@hes? She does look like one, with a tasty fruit roll-up cape. Thanks for another fantastic review Anthony💗💯😽🤟❣️💋💯
Poor Anthony - basically a toy AVGN at this point. :(
Not really
A good Cyclops has optic blasts.
cant have built looking women in an action figure line
Say that to Golden Axe's Tyris Flare from Storm Collectibles
Sick and tired of Hasbro.
The figure is absolutely horrible too.
One of the worst Marvel Legends lines in recent memory.
horrid figure smh
