- UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese, criticised Israel’s new four-hour-long humanitarian pauses in northern Gaza by describing them as “very cynical and cruel” and saying that they are only “curing the symptoms”.
She also slammed the US for “protecting Israel” while the human rights community is raising concerns about a risk of genocide against the Palestinians and said that it’s time for Israel “to abide by international law like any other state.”

When talking about the genocide taking place in Palestine, please educate yourself on what has been happening for the last 75 years rather than just “Hamas attacked Israel and holding people hostage means they deserve all of this”

Palestine was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire since the early 1900’s where Muslims, Christian’s and Jews lived amongst each other happily.
By the end of world war 1, the Ottoman Empire collapsed and Palestine was under British rule. In 1917 Britain declares its support for a Jewish homeland in palestine - Balfour Declaration. (By this point, European Jews had started to emigrate to palestine)
The number of settlers started to grow and tension was also growing causing the UN to take over from Britain. The UN planned to split palestine into two states.. Jewish Israel and Arab Palestine.
Jerusalem, which is the holy land of Muslims, Christian’s and Jews was kept as an international zone.
The Jews took this and declared Israel as an independant state which meant the neighbouring countries were not happy with the land being taken over. This was the start of the war. Israel attacked and was successful in obtaining as much of the land.
The land was then split into 3 parts with Jordan occupying the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Egypt occupying Gaza and the state of Israel takes 78% of historic palestine including West Jerusalem.
700,000 Palestinians became refugees as a result of this - IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY?! This was the day of the Nakba.
Wars broke out and Israel took over 100% of the land bringing in more and more settlers. This goes on and on, creating tensions, violence, treaties being signed etc.
Gaza was then split into 3 parts: Area A which belongs to palestine, Area B which has a split control and Area C which belongs to Israel. (This was the Oslo agreement backed by the US) but this solution created a problem.
Area C contained the agricultural land containing crops, water and minerals. This gave the Israeli’s the upper hand. They then start to build walls, checkpoints and controlled Palestinian movement within the towns and cities.
Hamas was created as a result of this.. A political movement determined to fight against the Israeli occupation.
Israel has attacked the Palestinian people over and over again carrying out major military assaults in particular 2008 ,2012, 2014 and 2021 with 2022 being the deadliest year. In 2023, Israel attacked Jenin and carried out several deadly attacks on Gaza.
On October 7th 2023, Hamas attacked Israel which led to Israel declaring war against Palestinians. Israel claims they are trying to get rid of Hamas but does this mean that innocent civilian lives are affected to the extent of cutting off water, food and electricity? Videos being shared of Israeli soldiers and zionists celebrating and dancing shouting “yes let’s kill all the children!”
Just a reminder that the Israeli government is the 4th most powerful military in the world. They target refugee camps, bombed several hospitals, schools, homes, places of worship for Muslims and Christian’s and are getting away with it. This is collective punishment!
There are over 2 million innocent people going through this! Just imagine all the electricity being cut off, all the babies being born and incubators switched off, women giving birth amongst rubble, parents screaming their children’s name under the buildings that have been attacked trying to find their children’s bodies. The school year being cancelled due to the deaths of all the students! As a teacher, this pains me to even write!
Finally.. The media will show you the narrative they want you to see but going against the narrative of the government does not make you a terrorist supporter, an anti semite or any other label. There are innocent people who are dying, who were living happily in their land till Zionist settlers deciding to colonise the Muslims, Christians and Jews!
