- Israeli historian Ilan Pappe launched his new book, "Lobbying for Zionism on Both Sides of the Atlantic," on 11 June at an event organised by The Cordoba Foundation, MEMO and One World Publications in London, UK. At the event, Pappe spoke about historical and present antisemites who have supported Zionism.

Yes, Professor Pappe is so important and badly needed. I disagree with him regarding Edward Said and Danny Baremboim but then Pappe is blinkered in his cylo and it's difficult to look over one's bucket into another bucket. I'm hoping that I can meet him and have an interesting conversation with him that may help both of us. we all want the best for the Palestinian people but what do you mean by "from the river to the sea"? That phrase has been interpreted as wishing the destruction of the Israeli people (so best not to use it), and if you & others use it a lot it might be interpreted in that way by some (extreme) Israelis and lead to the (complete) destruction of the Palestinian people.

That's a simplistic way to look at it. Sure, UK elites have done a great deal of damage when they were one of the world's super powers. But all super powers have that problem. It doesn't have to do with the region it is from, but with the structure itself.
The Roman Empire, the Mongol Empire, USA, UK, all of them both brought great development and countless misery in their times. Sadly it's part of the game. What we have to do is look at these structures and do our best to improve them. Repudiation of the people that run these structures is a part of it, sure, as it contributes to healthier incentive context, but it is far from enough. War mentality assumes unpopular decisions are mandatory, whatever the price.

This scenario of the development of the Zionist project makes me very curious why no prominent person ever asked the question, "What will be the fate of the Palestinians if we do this?" It's as if that question was impertinent or unimportant.
Of course, it was and still is an impertinent and unimportant question, Michael. The history of the planet for the last several hundred years of domination by the imperial countries of the Global North is the story of subjugation of the black, brown and yellow races by the white race. It is called racial capitalist impoerialism. At no point in the last more than one hundred years since the emergence of the Question of Palestine have our people ever been consulted about the fate of our Palestine. We have been seen as a nuisance or a pest that needs to be swept aside.
I don't think colonizers ever think of that. Just like they didn't ask themselves when they carved up South America, Africa, Asia, etc.
It's their interests that matter and no one else's. Making money is more important than human life to them.

@@CircaBEFORE You have to read it to understand. It covers many aspects of this conflict and not only but it has references of past similar conflicts in the world. In my opinion, if we want to bring this conflict to a respectful end where Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace side by side, we have to put our fate in the children. A proper education to the children is the solution. Education that does not promote hate but instead of human values.

Ilan Pappe is the only man I have heard so far who offers a rational and realisable solution to this Middle East conflict (although it will take time and further bloodshed).
As in South Africa with a one-state solution and one person, one vote, but with an independent multinational authority with the likes China or Russia who can come down with an iron fist on dissenters and prevent civil war.
This nevertheless means imposing BDS boycott, sanction and divest by the rest of the world against Israel and USA. Since currently 95% of the world stands against Israel, with co-ordinated leadership and courage, this can be achievable.
