Thank you Dave for recognising the genius of Danny alongside that of Peter. That means a lot as he was so often the forgotten man to the masses, but a select few who studied what made Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac so special and iconic back in the day know the contribution of Danny was an essential part of the band. It is very sad that like Jeremy Spencer he is not better recognised but with your recognition at least another 30,000 people will have a chance to understand his genius. RIP Danny.
True Danny and Jeremy both could play great.. Or they wouldn't have been there... They both get a little over looked.. They was just great band all round wasn't they...
Hi Dave, David from Nashville here. You taught oh well some years ago. Don’t know if it’s the same video, but introduced me to Peter Green and changed my playing. I am forever grateful!!
Awesome lesson and incredible playing aside, you have a truly wonderful character about you - thank you for having the courage to share yourself so openly with the rest of us. You are absolutely appreciated. Best wishes from the land down under 🤜💥🤛
Dave, your ears & memory are star class. I’ve been winging this epic all my life. I’m gonna start from scratch with your lesson. And great comments about Danny, R.I.P., so underrated was a massive contribution, especially to early Fleetwood Mac.
The best video about Oh Well Pt 1. Add to the other comments about recognising Danny. Your analysis emphasises that the guys who actually wrote the original were so good. Also never heard anyone else talk about the off beat and how it adds to the richness of the song. Thanks so much.
I cant really play!.....but 30yrs ago someone showed me how to do a simple version of the start of the riff, God I felt like a rock star for hours. I did the talk through and my mate played the real stuff. Magic!!!
Thanks for the lesson dave, oh well part 1 was the first Peter Green song I heard in my mere 18 years of living, half a year ago i could play the main riff but not the rest of the song but now with your help I'm able to play the whole song after only 10 months of playing!!! Thanks Dave, awesome as always.
I have enjoyed this tutorial so much I now am getting a feel for the tempo and speed even played on nylon it’s sound great the drones the vibrations of me strings 654 h/on p/off I’m leaping over this hurdle with out getting muddy
Hey I really enjoyed the whole tutorial,.,.. as a previous comment said,.. a real human!! Loved it from a fellow Lincolnshire resident. Thanks and take care!
YES!!! I've been waiting for a new Peter Green lesson. Thanks Dave! In the future, I'd love to see you break down one of his slow blues songs ("Love that Burns", "Someday After Awhile, "First Train Home", etc.) or a rocker (such as "Homework" or "Drifting"). Love the lessons. Keep 'em coming!
Dave, Thanks for taking the time to record and publish this. This is by far the best and most comprehensive lesson on Oh Well that I have come across. Those little nuances that you have picked up on make all the difference. Appreciated!
Dave just wanted to say what an awesome job you've done in putting this lesson together. I've just spent the weekend really digging into this and I've got to say I don't think I've ever seen anyone cover this in as much detail. You even got the Bb that's played in the opening riff. Every transcription I've seen incorrectly has it as a B. I also invested my time in transcribing the notes (helps me lock it in better) but have to admit I was having some challenges with the rhythm until you mentioned at the end of the video that it's played on the off beat. Should have watched the ending first :) Now I've just got to work on perfecting the playing!
Thank you so much Dave. I love this track and I was struggling with it having followed another tutorial. You made it really easy and thanks for your patience. You rock!
Great lesson, deserves a lot more likes! Have learnt the main parts of this before, but you have provided a lot more detail that really makes it come together. Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac...magic!
Superb lesson. This video and the entire series is absolutely fantastic for Peter Green' fans. Your passion for Peter's guitar playing is so genuine. It's also a deserved memory for Danny Kirwan. Thanks a lot Dave.
Dave, I don’t know why RUclips has only just sent me here. You play everything I’m interested in and make it super easy to learn. keep up the good work my man!!
This is awesome man! Thanks for posting this. Never thought I'd be able to play this riff. Now, with your help, I can! Love Peter, Danny, and Fleetwood Mac!
Hi Dave. You've made my afternoon. This is now on my" to do"bucket list. My guitar arrived yesterday and as the lockdown is due to keep the open mic pub like a carsophagus I'm figuring that when it eventually opens again I'll have this pretty much: "nailed"?!! Both on the guitar, didjeridoo, and bagpipes. Many thanks
Awesome. I love this song .. Its absolutely epic. I'm so very grateful to you for this. Excellent video dave. You explain it so its easy to follow. With explaining everything. My playing has improved because of you bud. 👍🤘
So, let's talk about the guitar solo. Yes, yes, yes, let's do that. \O/ That's what I've been looking for. I'll say thanks so much before I even hear it. :)
I knew if anyone could do the most concise lesson of 'Oh Well' it would be Mr Dave Simpson and I was not disappointed! Superb! Also I totally agree on Danny Kirwan.....such a shame, a nervous and fragile man of huge talent that unfortunately success was his downfall :-(
Dave , please don't ask me what i think of you , i might not give you the answer you want me to , oh wait , yes you do ,you're great and the sound was savage , i love playing oh well part one on my lester ,it's satisfaction all day long
Thank you for these lessons. When you play those first 3 licks to the intro really slow, it almost likes like a John Lee Hooker song. That's really cool!
Great video Dave. Really good instruction. Much appreciated. Every time I see one of your videos there seem to be more and more amps in the background! I am looking forward to a total picture of amps with your disembodied voice and guitar playing emerging somewhere in the background at some point in the future! 😂
Great work man amzing. The harmonised riff for peter on the first run starts on a b, at least on the live versions. You can split them left and right i think on the boston version
Dave the rockets did a version of oh well, big Jim mccarty on guitar. Man's a legend you should check him out, especially in his band cactus. Underrated guy, one of the greats in my opinion.
Hey Dave, just got to the end of your brilliant how to. Just thought I would add that if you ever develop middle age spread like me a LP does not dig into the ribs anywhere near as much :-) .
What a fantastic lesson, great job and be nice to yourself even if you had forgotten a detail (which you hadn't), it's an excellent lesson !. Also i don't know what pickups or amp you're using but the sound is very much in the spirit of the original, seriously probably the best lesson on that song around, well done !!!
Great tutorial. Thanks for going into such detail. Just noticed at the end how low your low E string pickups sides are and high your high E string sides are. I always raise my high E string pickup sides a bit myself.☺
Hey baby, what guitar is that ? And are you playing through that orange amp?. Plus what pedal u hit at beggining, man.this is so cool.excellence from England!
Thanks for that... I just finished rebuilding a Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro II body with 50's wiring, Grover tuners, an aluminum tailpiece, and Bare Knuckle PG Blues pickups... this lesson gives me something to bite into!
Thank you Dave for recognising the genius of Danny alongside that of Peter. Should have responded 4 years ago. Danny did a lot of the heavy lifting. The combination of him and Peter Green was magical.
What a marvelous teacher, a real human, a real rocker, a real soul! You nailed the song! Thank you!
52 years since I first heard this and the intro still gives me goosebumps. Dave, your playing in the style of Peter is exceptional.
I don't even remember this from back in the day, although know many songs from the 60's. I was amazed to find this record a year or so ago.

A new Peter Green Lesson... I can‘t find any words... thank you so much for doing this, good Dave!
The best video about Oh Well Pt 1. Add to the other comments about recognising Danny. Your analysis emphasises that the guys who actually wrote the original were so good. Also never heard anyone else talk about the off beat and how it adds to the richness of the song. Thanks so much.

Thank you Dave, that was brilliant. One very happy bunny here; fantastic lesson from the genius of Peter Green and Mr Danny Kirwan.

Dave that tone is wicked
Dave, the best parts of Peter live on in you. Fantastic lesson. Thank you for breaking this down. I love the Django style playing for extra clarity.
Great lesson, deserves a lot more likes! Have learnt the main parts of this before, but you have provided a lot more detail that really makes it come together. Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac...magic!
Wow! Great lesson - 50 year goal met. Thanks so much.

This is awesome man! Thanks for posting this. Never thought I'd be able to play this riff. Now, with your help, I can! Love Peter, Danny, and Fleetwood Mac!
Dude! Another outstanding performance.
Thank you very much indeed. : )
Been playing this on acoustic teaching myself and I’d forgotten the extra note on the first riff. Enjoyed tremendously.
Brilliant...
Great lesson - thanks Dave ~ For this song alone Peter deserves to be knighted ~ its a little piece of genius 🎶✌🏻🙏🏻🎸
Brilliant man
Thanx Dave Danny had a few instrumentals that I just loved. I would like to see you do My Dream or Sunny Side of Heaven
Simply thank you very much. I was struggling with this song, until I watch your lesson. now I can play it :-)
Thank you and so happy to hear that. : )

With explaining everything.
My playing has improved because of you bud. 👍🤘
Great stuff. Can we have a series of Jimi Hendrix lessons on tone and style? Maybe some Stone Gossard and Mike Mcready.
Thanks, I am going to be able to make sense of this now..I can relate to your teaching 💯😎
So, let's talk about the guitar solo. Yes, yes, yes, let's do that. \O/ That's what I've been looking for. I'll say thanks so much before I even hear it. :)

I am looking forward to a total picture of amps with your disembodied voice and guitar playing emerging somewhere in the background at some point in the future! 😂
Seems similar to the Day Tripper riff. One of the first things I learnt so I'll give this a go.
Thanks for making it look easy, you're a good teacher
Awesome video dude.
Yeah Great stuff 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
ive been waiting to start this lesson.
today that day came :)
Have fun. :)
Second comment - you really do a fabulous teaching method. Great job. Good gravy
Thanks Dave
Appreciated very much!!
Thank you. : )
Thank you
Enjoying your lessons Dave and your dedication to Peter Green and Danny Kirwan.
Can you do a lesson on 'Before The Beginning' please
Thank you very much and I shall get to it at some point yeps. :)
Great work man amzing.
The harmonised riff for peter on the first run starts on a b, at least on the live versions. You can split them left and right i think on the boston version
Great video! You should make a Steve Ray Vaughan series like these
Great! What effect did you switch on at about 0:28? Thanks!
Possibly an octave (up) pedal to add in the higher run by Danny.
Yes, makes sense; especially to those of us as maniacally into it as yourself...
Briljant!
Thank you very much. : )
What a fantastic lesson, great job and be nice to yourself even if you had forgotten a detail (which you hadn't), it's an excellent lesson !. Thanks so much dave, how about searching for madge or rattlesnake shake next
Hey baby, what guitar is that ? And are you playing through that orange amp?. Plus what pedal u hit at beggining, man.this is so cool.excellence from England!
Its my Vintage lemon drop and i’m not using the orange no. Its a marshall mg.
The pedals just a looper.
Cool! Thanx.
That was great instruction from a very high energy guy. I loved it, Dave. Did you lock the door on the way out?
Awesome teacher Dave, what gauge strings are you using on the lemon drop.
9 - 42.
The lesson is great but I really like the guitar in the face part!
Can you picture peter showing danny the runs to the song ? Bet danny thought "how the hell did you think that up " ! 😂🎸
Thats a great image. : )
Would really appreciate ‘coming your way’ by FM amazing danny kirwan song.
Thanks for that... I just finished rebuilding a Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro II body with 50's wiring, Grover tuners, an aluminum tailpiece, and Bare Knuckle PG Blues pickups... this lesson gives me something to bite into!
i kept waiting for that spider to pounce.
Great lesson , good tribute to Danny who would have been 70 on 13th May
Nobody plays Green and Kirwan like Green and Kirwan. Never have. Never will.
Where can I buy hands that big? That would be a big help!! Thanks in advance
I was defo influenced by peter
Very underrated ❤
