GASKET GOES ON TOP, only the 4 Valve gets 15-22 Lb-ft. The 4.6 2 Valve gets 71-97 lb-in (inch pounds) so 5.9 - 8 lb-ft. Hope I saved some people from having a bad day. This is as per shop manual.
Oh good. My car is overheating so I watched this to see if I installed it correctly. I put the gasket on top since the thermostat elbow has that tapered surround whichseemed logical to mate to the gasket.
Strange. most videos put the gasket on top of the thermostat. Anyway, original thermostat on my 02 GT and no overheating. I replaced the thermostat anyway since I flushed the radiator. Not too bad for a 19 year old thermostat.

notice you didn’t put a gasket in, just an o ring, did it ever leak?
Mine didn't have a gasket when I took it apart and the oring was on the bottom
Can I just take it out ? And keeping like that I own a 03 GT that’s overheating I’m starting with this
Just wondering did it fix the problem?
My gasket was on the bottom when I took it off... I had a motor craft and it stuck open
Was the gasket on the top or bottom
Top ??
