    I have a 2005 liberty. I live in Illinois. I have Maintained it. Always fixed any mechanical or rust issues. I like what you did with yours. I have 259,000 miles and mine drives like new. I'm going to steal some of your ideas. I already have the upgraded roof mounts. I took the back seats out for more storage. I might do the tent and an awing. Thanks for the video

      @@BackcountryRenegade thank you for the offer. I have 3 cross rails so really no need for the rack. I'm considering a tent but I have an elevated (only lightly) sleep platform inside. I take out all but the drivers seat to accommodate this. The height is level with the console. So I have plenty of storage too. I have custom screens that fit the windows also for ventilation with bug protection. So I'm considering a rooftop tent ⛺️ but may go with a rooftop storage box instead.

    Nice setup man. One thing to be mindful of is the roof load rating. The rating is based on the roof mounting and not the roof rack fitted. I have a 2011 Liberty with basically the same mount's as your's and has a measly 72kg load limit and Jeep told me it's based on the mounting. I have fitted a light weight soft top rtt as most hard tops are too heavy with my diy prinsu style roof rack which weigh's around 30kg. Cheers

    • @BackcountryRenegade
      @BackcountryRenegade  9 месяцев назад +1

      yep found that out that hard way and already fixed the issue. If yout notice in my newer vids the new rack. Ill eventually do a vid explain all that needs to be done to keep a rack and rtt up, but the one in this vid, wont work the best.

    Great build! Well thought out. The beauty of today is that there is so much out there to personalize your rig for your needs. Personally, other than getting off the ground in bear country, I don't see the fascination w roof top tents. It's like having a pickup w a slide in. Once you set up camp you can't use your vehicle. Also, it's hard to climb down in the middle of the night to pee. Watch that 1st step! Haha.
    I'm also in the process of a liberty build. I chose the liberty cuz it's small yet has 4 doors AND, I hate side by sides. Except for the real small side bys, it's about the same size as most and smaller than some AND, already has a hvac system and a windshield. As it is, it's amazing how capable it is. We use it as our hunting rig. Downside is the ground clearance in stock form. I'm collecting parts for an upgrade: ford 8.8 rear, dana 44 front, dodge 4.7L. Gonna keep the tire size limited to 33s.

    This thing is sick. Good work here. I reckon you've done lots of work getting it to where it is now! One thing to potentially add would be the clutch fan and shroud to keep the engine temperatures in check in case another "heat dome" comes and roasts us again next year. From what I hear overheating this engine is quite bad and the Liberty's that weren't equipped with the tow package have only got that tiny little fan up front. I'd say its a bit risky, especially since you are hauling around lots of extra gear. Anyhow, keep it up and please update us with how the future extra large tires fit.

    Kool video. IDK if you put the lowers on yet or not. My advice is to keep them the stock length. The liberty axle swings in a arc vs straight up and down. Centering the tire in the wheel well, will cause it to move towards the rear when stuffed.

    Looks like that lift is taking a toll on your lower ball joint.
    I know you said you want 32s,
    I would look into finding 15s that clear the caliper and 265/70r15s. You can bring down that lift to 2 inches and save your suspension from being worn out. And gas too.

    Didn’t see a fridge ? Maybe i missed it 🤷‍♀️ and i saw a little heater up in the tent , who makes that ? I also have a 06 liberty .. they are basically a first gen JK in a different smaller body, same trans and transfer case 81/4 rear ( same as a dana 44) and the 3.7 has about 20 more HP than the 3.8 . And towing and payload is higher on the liberty than the wrangler.. perfect jeep for me .. mine is the Max tow model it has the engine clutch fan with the normal fan also, and power steering cooler and trans cooler ..

    • @garyfujinami9911
      @garyfujinami9911 2 года назад

      The chrysler 8.25 refers to the ring gear diameter and comes w 29 spline axles if I remember right when I took my wife's liberty apart. It is a good rearend for a stocker. The dana 44 on the other hand, is in its 2nd generation now. The 1st gen has been upgrade throughout the years but, is characterized w an 8.5 diameter ring gear that translates to overall bigger parts like the spiders. Also, it comes w 30 sp axles. I know what you're thinking, 1 more sp is no biggie. The axle needs to be bigger to have 1 more spline. The 2nd gen if coming off the rear if a Rubicon has an 8.8 diameter ring gear and 32 spline axles which would make considerably stronger.

I’ve set mine up with they’re gear. He’s actually the reason I got into Overland because he’s in my home town in Virginia. He custom made a attic for my Liberty. Thanks for the walk around and the info and where you got your aftermarket parts not a lot of Liberty's out on the trail but it’s great gettin all the looks when your running the same trail as the Wranglers. Dustin : what kind of 2.5 lift and did it bolt up with factory suspension and steering ?

    • @dustingaither9146
      @dustingaither9146 3 года назад +1

      It is a spacer lift. Not the best lift but the most economical. I have a 2.5 inch Day Star lift. I did a lot of looking around before I bought it. I was leaning very heavy on the 3 in rough country but every one that had it on for a while complained about the springs settle real bad. You put the spacers right on top of the strings . Rear one are easy. The front a little more challenging. There is a plate that goes on top of the spring. I can’t remember exactly everything it took to get it on but we did tack weld the bolts that come with the plate and used a hydraulic press to get the spring apart to mount plate and spacer. Getting the springs back in did take a little team work to get it back in the a arms. If you have mechanical abilities and are comfortable it’s not bad to do. There is several videos of people putting this lift on. You will have to get it aligned up when your done. I did put longer brake lines by Jeeping By Al because I do flex it completely out and it was stretching them a little. The main reason why I went with the Daystar was I was reading a comment thread like this one and a guy was trashing the spacer lift telling people to go buy a Wrangler and get a real Jeep. A guy commented to him that he had a Wrangler on 35s and was all decked out for crawling. But he had a Liberty for his daily driver had his Daystar for five years and said if you did light wheeling or just wanted the Liberty to Have a better stance the Daystar had worked great for him. That sold me. I’ve had mine on About a year and a half. It’s worked great for me. We do a lot of gravel fire roads and moderate trails. On the trail it gets attention because it’s so different .

    It’s more sleek than the iKamper? Did you compare to the iKamper?

    • @BackcountryRenegade
      @BackcountryRenegade  3 года назад +1

      Yes I did. Side by side infact. Ikamper is wider and taller when closed on the car, which for my car already being smaller and narrow would stick out more. Plus the condor has more room when opened since the front floor does not narrow like the ikamper. I still like the ikamper but those things plus the money savings had me go condor. But quality wise the ikamper is a bit above, but comes at a premium. Both great tents though

    I would do a straight axle front conversion.
    The front suspension on liberty is very questionable with bigger tires lift and weight.
    That's all that platform needs is a straight axle to be serious

      I got my front skid plates from Jeepin By Al before they discontinued them to focus only on A arms. The other plates came stock on the renegades, but they are not as beefy as the JBA ones. Check u pull it junk yards for some off renegades. Maybe get lucky and find some JBA ones. Skid row also makes some I hear.

    I’ve it looking at installing an arb winch bumper and winch. But also wondering if there more of a need to save weight and try my damndest to get a half bumper built.
    What would you recommend?

    • @BackcountryRenegade
      @BackcountryRenegade  3 года назад +1

      it will depend on your suspension. If you have HD springs and coils like i have in mine, it will be able to handle the full bumper and winch. I suggest going with a synthetic line like i did will save weight that way. But the arb is a lot of steel, so a half bumper would save weight. I dont have those skills to build one so just bit the bullet for arb. If you have the skills id say go for it. some people also fashion wrangler bumper to their kj and make custom mounts for it.
