A 2.1oz difference is a deal breaker? You’re out of your mind if you think that’s a deal breaker. As a professional hiker, that’s right, paid to hike for a living; 2 oz is a swig of water. A deal breaker would be carrying an excess of 20 Ibs up a mountain for no reason. Regardless, you and I are built different

lol this is with the ultralight mentality in mind, who are the majority of my viewers. every gram adds up, when your trying to be under 10 lbs base weight. if thats not your goal, then no problem either. Also Built different is not it at all, but instead what hiking style do you pursue.

As far as the flow rate goes, I understand it can vary depending on mounting positions BUT it should be a rule that ALL items that run pumps should give 2 flow rate results. 1 being level to the water supply and the other at a hight level of 1 meter. That way comparing them all is easy. Someone should set that as a standard for reviews because flow rate is critical because I for 1 do not want to travel 6 hours and spend 5 hours at camp waiting for my tank to be refilled. I go away to relax and enjoy the forrest and all of earths friendly creatures, yes just the friendly ones 🙂.

Thanks. I'm new to all this and currently thinking I will opt for an Electron Pro. Initially I shunned down (vs synthetic fill) as I was fearful of being caught out in rain and effectively needing two jackets, ie plus a shell for really wet. I have a shell (30+ years old North Face Fantasy Ridge) but the Gore-T layer seems to be struggling as I get wet when it rains hard - maybe I can treat the surface so outer layer doesn't become too saturated? I really like my old shell 'cus it has lots of good sized storage pockets, that modern jackets seem to shun. I came to this via consideration of a Rab Valiance (waterproof coating and no stitch holes). Initially it seemed a perfect option. Then I saw it's cousin, the Reliance. I then thought it was effectiely a much better Valiance so started to think that I wanted that. But never having lived with down and doing more research started to realise that I'd only ever be able to wear it for 3 months (max) plus the odd unseasonably cold day, when I wasn't being too active. Even then, lower breathability (esp. in high humidity) with any exertion, would likely see me sweat heavily and spoil (wet and clump) the down fill from the inside (nasty). So in conclusion I wanted to prioritise lower weight but good warmth, smallish packability and versatility. My current thinking is to use my old shell (re-treated) for summer evenings, and better spring or autumn conditions. Switching to Electron when needing more warmth when also dry, then using Electron plus my old NF shell in colder, wetter conditions. Not quite as nice as one Resolution jkt on the coldest of days, but considerably more usable year round.

It's on sale right now for $190, so I ended up buying one yesterday even though I've been hesitant. Hard to ignore that price for those specs, and almost half the price of the other jackets I was interested in purchasing. I prefer adjustable cuffs to elastic, not a fan of the color options, and really dislike the lack of a chest pocket. But if the fit is good and it's warm enough, those will be minor complaints at that price point.

The satellite to phone network is apparently now complete - at least the last satellites in the constellation have been launched (Dec 2024). If it's allowed to operate, maybe in 5 years, you'll be able to purchase a dedicated plan. In 10 years, it might be affordable (but regular satellite phones aren't really affordable yet, so it might be longer). I'm not sure if the satellite network is truly worldwide or if it ignores the extreme north & south.

They're in different classes. Pointless comparison

haha wrong, that's why we compare to show the difference.

Great comparison video! I am leaning towards the Patagonia Down Sweater, but the Arc’teryx Cerium seems to be calling me. Maybe just for the logo 😂 Is not having a zipper wind flap on the Arc’teryx Cerium a deal breaker? I would think so when primarily wearing the jacket as an outer layer.

they are both great jackets and cant go wrong either way for me i prefer the down sweater, the windflap just make its a but more windproof but does weigh a bit more

Yeah, 💯. The Arc’teryx Cerium jacket is really singing to me. I just need to find color and size in stock. Per post on an Internet forum: “I actually don't like the down sweater zipper, too chunky. And the wind flag also too chunky, very awkward to wear partially zipped up because the side with the wind flag always goes straight into my face. The Cerium has a reversed zipper where the fabric portion is at the front. It leaves a very small gap when zipped. Wind is not an issue.”

What red is this electron pro ? It doesn’t look like the Tuscany red that is available in Uk

#Thanks for the review. Would the various jacket not be the better product to compare?
