One thing I learned from the salesman in Atlanta at NIRVC is to not let them pull the motorhome out to the road and then say here you go. When I bought in Vegas they let me drive in the back lot so I could see how the brake and gas pedal felt. I also tested the pedals when we got out onto the road until we got to the main road. There was a a BIG difference between pedals in a fleetwood and Newmar.

I rented the Rv, drove it slept in it, set it up and worked all the appliance to see if it’ll work with me. Helped me ensure I bought the right tv and layout.

We bought a 40' diesel pusher without a test drive. I had been a 5th wheel person for 30 years and decided to change it up. I had never driven one. The guy I bought it from was willing to drive it 200 miles to me. We lucked out. It is a 2004 Travel Supreme and it runs, drives and rides like a dream. Now that I have a couple seasons under my belt, I would absolutely test drive first.

We were idiots and did it twice. Purchased a NewAire from NIRVC and didn’t drive it until two days later while spending three days at the dealer. Three years later we bought a MountainAire site unseen in NY. We live in Texas. They delivered it to our home. Both times it worked out mainly due to us trusting Newmar products but still a dumb move. Great video and great advice.

I have never bought a RV without a test drive.
I have heard of dealers taking you on a "test drive" that was a test ride because they drove and you just rode along. I won't be doing that earthier.
When you get a chance to test drive anouther Newmar play with the comfort steer settings. You can read up on it on their website or ask Angie.

I did test drive the Newmar Canyon Star Class A motorhome, however I had no comparison and didn’t drive another Class A. The standard F53 chassis was just awful: the sway, the tail wag, the steering. I didn’t upgrade to liquid springs like you guys but I upgraded to the Safe-T-plus, all 4 Koni shocks, SUMO springs and Rear Trac bar and that made all the difference. In now drives really good. A Class A Diesel with the air ride is a world of a difference. The width of a Class A in the driver & passenger seats could be intimidating, always watch out for tree branches, bridge heights, know the height of your RV. Great video, thanks.

Bought the 23 Bounder 35k without test driving, and had I known how bad it handled, the purchasing deal definitely would have included sumo springs, supersteer steering stabilizer, koni shocks and track bar. Expensive lesson learned. Wish fleetwood would include these on the f53 chassis.

Great video guys. I would love if you could take it a step further on a list of priorities when looking at a new class A motorhome or it could apply to there class RV's. Here is my list of needs and it's not in any priority. 1. hidden cabinet hinges 2. enough counter space for food prep 3. nightstands on both sides of bed. 4. plenty of kitchen cabinets above sink area 5. 22.5" wheels and tires 6. storage 7. solar 8. lithium batteries 9. exterior paint or plain 10. generator 11. Inverter 12. hight step up to shower 13. Pantry 14. large 12v refrigerator 15. 2 or 3 A/C 16. Tankless water heater 17. electric fireplace.
How would you prioritize this list? Should like another video : )

Some RV dealers are very strict on when you can test drive. Camping World - I'd never buy there - won't let you test drive until you have all the paperwork approved BEFORE letting you drive it. However, I went to a local mom and pop RV place and they let us test drive with no commitments or pressure to buy. Good points in video, we test drove our class A, and almost a year later, I'm still not confident driving it.

I purchased a 2019 Jayco Seneca 37K General RV in Salt Lake City. I had it just to make sure that everything was OK before I did the paperwork and bought it But my first test drive of it was a 2200 mile drive from Salt Lake City Utah to Columbus Georgia. I did years of research on all kinds of different motor homes. It drove awesome and will be even better once I install new shocks and Steering stabilizer. It has the room so we can take to kids and grandkids out of a couple of weeks at a time. I also did go inside one and had the slides pulled into see how well we could get to the sink, Refrigerator, half bath all of these stages were accessible. Could not have picked a better RV to fit with are retirement plans in a year. Thanks for all of the info in your videos.

Great video! Very helpful and practical advice!
We are currently looking for our next RV. We attempted to test drive a Jayco. However, we were unable to do so since one of the slides failed to retract properly. We waited 30+mins while 2 technicians and the sales manager worked but were unable to solve the issue, we left.
We then test drove a Renegade. This time, all the slides did work as expected.(Yea!) It was very nice inside, we loved it. However we found the Renegade's ride to be very noisy, rather bumpy on uneven payment, and the turning radius was less than desirable.
We have since decided to purchase another class A, leaning towards a used Newell with the steerable tag axel.

Another great video. Many great insights. When we were purchasing our MH we drove many of them. Drove one 45' that was underpowered and a dog on the highway. Saw and heard the difference in quality of the insulation and construction of different MH manufacturers as far as road noise and engine noise. Could feel the difference in the heavier chasis and larger wheels (19.5 vs 22.5) on the gas class A's. Great points in this video. Thanks!

Being a retired truck driver, I'll take a Super C all day long. A Class a to me would be like driving a city bus, as far as motor noise goes, that would depend on the motor. Cummins is a really noisy loud motor compared to a Detroit or Paccar motor. But seeing the motor is in the rear ya, your not going to beat the sound level.

  • @hawkeyetec
    @hawkeyetec 4 месяца назад +1

Turning radius depends on wheel base.
Acceleration depends on axel ratios. And engine size.
    Look at a class 8 super c vs a class 6.
Power and chassis durability and ride will vary.
The class 8 super c can be speced for power and ride and wheelbase for the ultimate super c.

Another important video, MJ and Izzy! I cringe when I think of how we purchased our 2020 4369 DS - we signed on the dotted line without a test drive! We were so desperate to get out of our previous coach that we didn't check out how the DS drove! Fortunately, whether through dumb luck or divine intervention, we have a great coach! The ride and handling, the stability on windy interstate highways, the build quality, were all light years ahead of the previous coach. A tag axle makes a big difference, but also, as you noted Izzy, the turning radius is amazing for such a large RV. Was I nervous when I first drove it? Heck, yeah, I felt like the RV was taking up a lane and a half! But with (careful) experience comes confidence. Not to say I wouldn't be interested in driving a Super C, I can see some advantages with them too.

How true your advice is , I bought a 2023 Thor hurricane . You talk about a rattle trap , it was horrible, if I would’ve teat test driven I would walk away, sure what a walked away. i’m glad I was able to sell it back bought a fifth wheel besides a hurricane being a piece of junk with all kinds of problems so much happier with the quietness of my diesel truck compared to that rattle trap.

I know this has nothing to do with this, although we did do a test drive. We have a question about washing our 2021 Newmar Kountry Star. We recently purchased it and just washed it for the first time. We used Release, after watching your videos, but it dried with dirty streaks all over it. We sprayed it on with the foam attachment to our smaller power washer, went over it with a soft lambs wool pad, and then hosed it off immediately. We're now having to go over it by spraying the Release on and wiping off with a soft towel. Please tell us what we did wrong...help!!!

Still, depending on the Super C, it depends. There are add ons like liquid spring that can help. And yes they are what some say expensive but make a difference. The safety of a Super C is very important to me. I will never ever buy a Class A. Not enough power, and can’t tow enough. It’s why they make so many different ones! 👍Oh and there is nothing stopping anything in the front end. I suppose one of my biggest issues with Class A’s, is there is no drivers door, and usually one door that has to go around the passenger’s seat. And if not the passenger’s seat, they don’t have an exit!! Lots of red flags for me! Thanks for the info
