Nice presentation and great drumming! I also have a Vintage late 70's set of Slingerland "chromie's". Both sets of Aquarian Heads sounded Great in the video! Although, I personaly couldn't hear much difference and I listened through a set of Sennheiser HD 201S Headphones. I'm sure either set of Heads will sound great on my Drums as well! Rock On! :)
Dude you're great drummer and great sound engineer as well, congrats and thanks for the great video. I'd say half (if not more) of the kit sound is the drummer and you've got the talent for sure. Aquarians rock, best heads ever.
+MrNickdrummer Thanks Nick! I agree, that is true of ANY instrument: The majority of the "tone" comes from the player. The rest is just the icing on the cake. But I like icing, so... nice gear is a must! ;)
+BUBBAROC1 Depends on the situation, but more often than not, I use the Vintage series on the toms, and the regular coated models on the snare and kick.
I have the same drums! I prefer the Response 2 set. On my drums, I prefer clear Studio X, and Performance IIs. These Aquarian heads are absolutely the finest heads on the market. For the longest time I've been "over tuning" them, not taking advantage of the unique sound curve collar. Once I backed off, and tuned them as Roy Burns recommend, I experienced all the benefits of Aquarian heads. My kick and snare were always goof, but I got that fat, powerful tone out of my toms now. Unbelievable....
+danlc95 Yes, I've been an endorser for many years now, and they have never let me down! Roy and everyone at Aquarian are great people, and make excellent products.
Awesome video, excellent drums skills and studio! It would be great if you did comparisons in much quicker succession. flicking between them several times, instantly. It would make it a lot easier to really hear the difference.
+Aneek Thapar Yes, that occurred to us after-the-fact... LOL. Next time we do any "comparison" type videos, we will be sure to do that, so people can more accurately A/B them. :)
I agree, I saw him at House of Blues in Myrtle Beach when they opened for Firehouse and was blown away by Mike and the band as a whole. That album kicked ass from start to finish. It is rare for me to totally get into songs from a band that I didnt know, but I have wore out probably 3 or 4 of those CDs!
+Brenda November I usually have a small, cheap "hotel towel" lying in the bottom of the kick, just touching the front head to kill a little of the ring and "flap", and to soak up a little of the "boing" of the shell. The resonant head on this video was a single-ply Aquarian Texture Coated. Thanks for diggin' it! :)
Thank you for taking the time to make this great sound comparison.

Jamie Harris was one of the best guys to deal with over there!

What is that HH crash to your right? It sounds amazing.
It's actually a 21" HH Vintage Ride that I use as a crash. :)
Awesome! I may have to get one of these.
Mike's drumming on the first Doubledrive album is my favorite!!
+Chris L. Thanks Chris!

@@john-xc3iy Reason, Belief System... Dressed In Light! The whole album is killer.
