I started with Remo as a teenager a long time ago. Moved to Evans, and have been using Aquarian the past year. Aquarian Super Kick 2 is my favorite bass drum batter head to date.
Rest In Peace Roy, we miss you..... I've been using Remo Emperor Ebony Suede with my Sonor Rosewood Teardrop kit that is 6 plies of German Beech wood, and I like it well enough, but I'm hearing something quite intriguing here with the Aquarian Reflector Series.... could it be the combination of 7 and 10 ply mylar? I don't know, but I really want to try them. I sure do like the look of Black or Ebony on my kits. Nick, you are the best! I'd sure like to meet you some day! Keep 'em coming Drum Brother!
@@edubatera72 Yeah, I have some Reflectors on the way. I like standard, unmuffled 2-ply heads, usually Black Suede or Onyx so seeing this one at 17-mil, as opposed to most 14-mil 2-ply heads got me curious. Pre-muffled heads generally suck unless it's very minimal like a Powerstroke. I always say that if I want muffling, I'll just throw more Moongels on. I was always averse to Pinstripes, Hydraulics, etc. because of that. They're great for specific studio settings, but I want that sweet sustain you get from exactly one Moongel and no other dampening.
James McMackin Onyx are good too...they are two 7.5ply heads but coated...which makes it as dark as these but less attack...i like the Reflectors better...
When I saw Peter Criss live in concert with his solo band in '95 he used a DW kit similar in color and configuration as this one but with Remo heads and Sabian cymbals....
I currently have the DeJohnette heads on all four of my drums. I’m curious to know how & or if they differ from the Modern Vintage heads? -Thank you...🥁🔨
Hi Nick.I do not know if you have played the aquarian force ten(2 ply of 10 mil),.Are these heads better in a deep sound with susutain than the force ten?
Would be really really nice if you guys did video to show what the drumheads sound like UNMIC'D...... I hate drumhead videos that have a mic'd up kit, people especially young inexperienced drummers here these kits and go out and buy these heads thinking their kit will sound like these on here. The average player especially at home isn't playing/practicing on a mic'd kit. To get the true sound imo is to record the video with a good camera and let us hear how the heads really sound. I hope you guys really consider that.
thing is there’s no way to replicate exactly how it sounds to human ears in a room so no matter what the drums won’t sound like in a specific video. as long as the drums are tuned well it will sound good
Hey, Mattlon Proctor. Thanks for reaching out. Good choice on the reflector heads. I personally use Aquarian Classic Clear heads as resonant heads. They work great. Thanks again. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
Not for me. I’ve tried 3 different sets of Aquarian heads but they came off my kit within 2 days. I just don’t like the way they sound. I’ll stick with Remo and Evans.
These drum heads are good, but they are best mic'd up for both live and recording. If you're playing at a bar show, your toms won't really cut through.
Hi Matt, The bottom heads ( which I should have mentioned ) are the stock heads that came with the DW kit. Very similar to Remo Ambassador, Evans G1, or Aquarian Classic Clear. All the best!

Your product demos are the best.

aquarians are my favorite sounding toms and evans are my favorite sounding snares
The Genera HD Dry snare head is god-tier.
going to replace the evans reverse dot i got used to with this aquarium reflector
Honestly I think these are the best looking heads I’ve ever seen and they sound great.
Imagine using this
These drum heads
Chrome drums
Paiste reflector series cymbals
brettzilla craft Jesus Christ...
I would like chrome heads on chrome drums
Such a great drummer ❤️
I think I'm in love with those shells oh my
3:24 was the best part of the vid, but these definitely sound like the Evans Hydraulics.
sticks45 hydraulics are way more muffled...
@@edubatera72 So Hydraulics, but actually useful? I just ordered a set out of curiosity.
James McMackin I would go for Black Chrome or Aquarian Reflector...hydraulics are very low and muffled for my taste...👍

Great video Nick....... I sure miss Roy.......
Thanks for the video
Do you use the same reflector heads for both batter and reso??
Aquarian Modern Vintage and DeJohnette heads = A++
I currently have the DeJohnette heads on all four of my drums. I’m curious to know how & or if they differ from the Modern Vintage heads?
-Thank you...🥁🔨
You should do a demo on the aquarian performance 2 clear!
Those are king thud.
I like the black coated but I like Evans Onyx best
What resonant heads were used?
the best heads
Damn these sound frkn good

I agreee. Not everybody plays a DW kit. The drumheads will help improve the sound but don't expect a $500.kit to sound like these drums.
we agree
It will...if they mic and eq the $500 kit...

He dabs at 3:16
Any thoughts on how these compare with the Evans EC2 tom heads?
Just changed over to Aquarian drum heads, but my question is whats reso head would be good for these reflector series heads?

What would their equivalent in Remo…I’m guessing emperors?
What's on the bottom. ??? The reso head. Is it the same !!?!?
Hey Nick, I don't see the info about the cymbals you're playing in the vid description. Would you mind sharing/adding? :) Thanks!
I wanna say they're the Meinl Pure Alloys, but my screen is pretty small...
Hi Michael, You are correct. Those are the new Meinl Pure Alloy's. Very nice cymbals!
Take care, Nick
Sweet. Thanks for confirming!
but how much for that kit?
What is the bass head?
Resos in this video drum settings??

In Tony Williams Yellow!!!!!! :)

Kevin Tran what would you recommend for that kind of volume?
@DanKat69 I know this is 5 years late but the Remo Controlled Sound black dots cut thru amazingly well in loud settings
What are on the bottom?
Hi Matt,
The bottom heads ( which I should have mentioned ) are the stock heads that came with the DW kit. Very similar to Remo Ambassador, Evans G1, or Aquarian Classic Clear.
All the best!
Cool. Thanks for the info.
Black is beautiful.
Would reflector series compliment a birch kit such as sonor sq1?
It would be more like an insult. Sonor sing better than DW on top, and to mute that is...cruel.
1.7mm not 17mm for crissakes!
DDandrums mil are not mm, they are 1000ths of an inch
Kinzicco oh.
