I find it absolutely hilarious yet relatable that you kept forgetting that it was all Geoff, and then immediately remembering that it _is_ just Geoff. The dude just makes you forget that he's the only one singing.
As I've said before, Ms. Glatzhofer is one of the most enjoyable reactors to watch. The fact that she's very knowledgeable is nice, but not as important as her contagious enthusiasm and sheer joy.
For those who don't like your pausing to give your analysis, there's this great new invention that's just come out: Geoff's original video! 😎 Seriously, after enjoying your fine reaction, all of us should go over to Geoff's video, showing him some love and support, and not try to get the fruits of his labors here. You're giving us the fruits of _your_ labors! And well worth it!
We might be very familiar with a piece of music, but when Geoff interprets it ... he takes it to a totally new level! His arrangements and voice are spectacular! 🔥🤯💖💯 He thrives on challenges, and I have a feeling we're going to hear him doing more and more runs. A while ago, when VoicePlay did Tennessee Whiskey, he said he couldn't do runs like Eli and J None, but he did it anyway, and it's only gotten better since then. Geoff constantly works on his voice, and never stops amazing me! 🤯👍🎶
As an English and etymology nerd, the fact that he rhymed "mind" and "wind" in the original Middle English pronunciation just warms my heart. I found you recently (hello) and I love your insight. I watch reaction videos to learn more about a song I already love. Why would anyone NOT want you to pause and point out a musician's brilliant hidden details? What ignorance! Please feel free to pause the video as often as needed and delve into things. We already know the song, we want the ANALYSIS.... and shocked looks when Geoff hits those notes, of course! Anyone who doesn't want knowledge should go watch one of those non-musician reactors. You, Peter, Mortius... I love the knowledge you all bestow and your sense of humor. Much love from Oregon!
No one and everyone should be this talented. What a great arrangement of a traditional song, keeping the reverence of the original but tickling the ears with some inventive variations. Now I'm in the holiday spirit.
The lyrics’ natural cadence is iambic pentameter. I like the way he added a musical rhythm that emphasizes that. Also, right about 10:20 (this video), there’s also this light, high descending sound almost like strings being plucked or staccato keyboard. VERY nice. I hadn’t noticed that before. I like the way your explain the vocal technique and harmonies. Great reaction!
You are always so energetic and delightful as you fangirl over Geoff! If you want another fun Geoff Christmas song, check out his "Mele Kalikimaka" featuring the American Sirens, it's so catchy!
I now think of him as Geoff and the Geofftones. It's a bit of a throwback to my young days when singers had names like that. :) Yes it's lovely how he moves from the minor to major to bring resolution. Lovely reacting. I don't mind pauses when people rewind a bit to keep things moving. And yes, this is a much more joyful arrangement.
Jennifer, a lot of other channels have "reaction" videos. Yours is the best. You give true technical coverage, and you have a lovely smile and great comments as well! I am not even a musician and even I appreciate the difference your expertise makes in your reaction videos I instantly subscribed. You are the bomb! Keep 'em coming! Merriest of Christmases! (Oh, and yes, I am a huge Geoff fan as well, so don't feel bad!).... :-)
Your antics at the end made me smile ear to ear! Now my face hurts, thank you very much! All kidding aside, I want to be cerealous ( dang it youngun. now you have me making up words!) about your knowledge. You have knowledge! You guessed right away that it was Jeff who sang that note. You made me so proud of you! You didn't disappoint, you tried the low note again. If you ever hit one of Jeff's subharmonic notes I will emulate you and grab my head so it doesn't explode. It would be fun if you were to lip sync one of them and blow our minds! I too love the yogottago notes ( I learn so much from you!) because I gotta go after hearing him sing. Last comment; you still need to listen to Jeff's " The Headless Horseman" even if you don't react to it. I think you would love it! Have a beautiful day!
That was great fun. Really enjoyed Geoff's take on this carol as well as your reactions to it. Too funny how you kept catching yourself accidentally referring to other singers (such as, "whoever is on that line" ) Lol. Keep them fun reactions com'in Jen! Looking forward to the next one.
I really enjoyed your analysis and always learn something new. Loved your rendition at the end :-) As a side note, your videos are always noted to be reaction videos with analysis so I expect to hear you talk through it. And if I am watching you do that it usually means I already watched the standalone version. I have watched some reaction videos where they hold all discussion until the end. That just causes me to skip to the end. Now I do understand that, every now and then, Voiceplay or Geoff will put out something that just kind of hits the mute button for surprised reactors, but that's fun too.
I am, for one, always here to listen to your breakdowns and reactions....so yeah, if you don't want that...well, that's just silly cause you are so much fun to watch! I always enjoy finding reactors that enjoy the music and enjoy getting to 'nerd out' on the music/arrangement/video/lighting (whatever their speciality is). Not only do I get to learn new things but often I notice, or they notice and point out, something I never caught before. Geoff really did do a fantastic job with this arrangement (not that he doesn't pretty much always) and while I love his bass (like everyone else) I have to admit, my favorite parts of this version are when he's in the more baritone ranges. His voice is so lovely in that range to me. Great job as always!
Jennifer, I love your reaction and analysis. Geoff is an amazing singer and arranger! I've listened to Geoff for the last 7-8 months and I'm always amazed at his range, from deep bass, to baritone and to tenor. And the faces you make always make me laugh. Keep up the great work and happy holidays!
8:55 I just realized why he uses his hands. It is for rhythm but also for the editing of the video. I saw that each "Geoff" uses the same hand signals within the phrases .
So that’s all the same person? OMG! Great reaction - I love that you explain the different elements of the music, the runs, the key changes, the tempo - legato, syncopation, etc., and how they work together, rather than just saying how awesome an artist is. I appreciate the education. Thanks.
Greeting to you, jolie Demoiselle ;) Today, I'd LOVE to suggest a brand new song entitled "Here Comes The Storm", from the French Canadian project named "Obscurcis Romancia. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and have a nice day xx
OMG. That was soooo great!!! Loved your reaction, but really loved Geoff’s version of this song! Such a delight to both watch & hear! Reminds me of the fun I had in hs singing in a show choir. We loved it! Geoff’s voice, like that of Austin Brown & Tim Foust, is such a pleasure to experience! Well done! Go check out #PeterHollens. He does some really awesome stuff, too, & occasionally joins up with #TimFoust & #HomeFree. He also has a beautiful voice!
OMG Jennifer, If you like this one you will be amazed by Geoff's new cover song I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas ( White Christmas ). You will not believe your ears. This one Topps everything he has ever done. It just released 12-4 at 1:00 pm. This one will blow you away.

Thanks for all your hard work and consistantly superb videos. Love your accent. Are you from Texas? 😎
Geoffs' "solo" covers have gotten more complex and elaborate with time ..... My personal favorite was an earlier on of "Bare/Bear Necessities" ....... don't know if you've done it yet but it's worth the watch ....

6:09 lowest note was doubled but least he has multple Geoff's with him and it actually makes sense. All of my favorite bass vocalists throw that effect on. It's one of a few effects like marinating in reverb female Sopranos swim in and i don't mind. In a music video anything goes. The line not to cross is lip-synching or using live autotune in venues that people payed for entry.
While Voiceplay and Geoff do a great job with Halloween and Christmas, don't forget to check out some Voctave Christmas songs: O Come, All Ye Faithful (showcasing EJ's talents); Carol of the Bells of Notre Dame; You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch (showcasing the basses);...
Please do a reaction video of Geoff's version of Shenandoah. You will be blonde away. Geoff is pronounced (Jeff ) & he is the low bass singer & the beat boxer is Layne. Those two always play off of each other.
Hi Jen! On Geoff's high parts here, the harmonies he's singing seem to be similar notes to other high harmonies he does on other songs (Sixteen Tons, Headless Horseman, Monster Mash, etc.). As if someone else singing the notes would be instantly recognizable as singing a 'Geoff harmony'. Is there a name for the combinations of notes that he's picking from the chords for his harmonies? It doesn't sound to my admittedly uneducated (in a musical theory sense) ear as if he's choosing standard tenor or alto notes there. Is it just my imagination, or does he show evidence of preferring certain 'harmonic progressions' (if that's a thing) and if so, is there a name for that? I've probably forgotten more about theory than I ever learned (back in the Early Cretaceous Period), but is this some form of "mode"?
Hey Bill, this is a bit late, but here's my take on what's going on with the harmonies. Admittedly, I don't have the best ear for intensifying chords, so this may not be entirely accurate. His harmonies in his background vocals alternate between singing in unison and sing in chord extensions from the main melodic lines. Most of the chords are simple major or minor chords to follow the melody, but the more dissonant chords he uses are, as far as I can tell, primarily 7ths and 9ths. The 7th being directly below the root note and the 9th (or 2nd, just up an octave), sits right between the root and 3rd, which are the backbone of the chords. These two notes can create a strong sense of dissonance which is very satisfying when resolved. I've noticed he tends to use them a lot right before a low bass note or a vocal run. The dissonant tones really catch a listeners ear, keeping you more alert for what follows. I hope this answers at least some of your question. I never formally studied music theory, but that's the best I have.
@@raeyth_ Thanks for that! And you describe a lot of his choices there that I missed before.
