IMO some of Geoff's most creative and interesting work here -- a truly innovative take on this time-old song. The man never disappoints with his work -- bravo, Geoff!
You should see voiceplay’s wicked medley, it’s a long one and Geoff worked on the arrangement for YEARS, I hope he’s as proud as we are of him because it’s phenomenal, I think you’d love it. :) As you said, he never disappoints.
You were wondering how far back this song goes; according to Wikipedia, the oldest printed version is a Broadside dated around 1760 (so it could have been around longer than that). And Charles Dickens mentions it in "A Christmas Carol." So this song is old enough that there is no "original" version.
I go to random reactions all the time to just skip through to the fun parts and see the reaction. Peter's is the only one that I intentionally look for, not to skip through, but to actually listen. He knows so much about music and it's crazy listening to all of the things that I never would have noticed, and he does it in such a way that it's not him just trying to show off or sound smart. He is actually teaching things while we both get to enjoy an amazing song. Thanks for being such a great analysist.
Another REALLY cool detail. When he sings Minor the background is in blue and green. Very cold colours. And when he does a major section it's in yellow and orange. Very warm colours. :)
I love how he starts low and simple, then at 4:8 , when I think he's gonna drop underground, he instead goes higher and introduces the drums! Brilliant! 🤯 Geoff's creativity is never ending! He's been singing this song ever since he was a "professional caroler" as a teenager; no surprise that he changed and improved his version over time; it's Geoff, and that's what he does!! 🔥💯😍
I can enjoy a reactor having an emotional response to a piece of music, even if they don’t know why the music is eliciting that response. But I love your reactions because you not only feel the music, you can articulate what’s happening in the music to cause that response. Thank you so much!
Picardy thirds and Aeolian cadence....this is why I love your reactions. Haha. Nowhere else have I heard reactors mention these. I hear terms like these and the music theory nerd in me perks up. Another great analysis Peter.
The first time I listened all the way through, it really hit me hard on the emotions, especially when he went from the fairly light opening, then Bam! I then listened to your reaction and analysis, which always brings out nuance and technicalities that I missed. I appreciate that immensely. I agree with your point that his more natural chest bass is many times more pleasing to hear. Not that I don't love his show-stopper notes, but once in awhile ....I also agree that this is wildly creative but still captures the meaning and focus of the "original".
I love your reactions. They're far more than you being blown away by the deep bass notes. Your analysis of the creativity and intricacies of the piece add so much more than the fan boy reactions!! Geoff deserves that as he's so much more than a deep bass voice.
After hearing this I would love for Geoff to do an arrangement of Carol of the Bells for VP. It's such a naturally busy song it would be interesting to hear his take and their voices with a guest vocalist or two.
Another Geoff Quartet. Geoff always acknowledges his other selves when he sings. I really like what Eli did with the lighting. Thank you goes out to PattyCake Productions (Layne & Tony) for the set. Good choice Kathy on Geoff's jacket.
This was such an unexpected departure from the traditional song we all know, and I LOVED IT! The harmonies, and Geoff's low notes as well as his high ones really show off his range. Brilliant arrangement! Now , I know you're reacting to Geoff, but I'd love it if you could react to Tim Foust singing Come Go With Me, Can't Help Falling in Love With You, and My Maria (with Austin)! I think you'll love them all! Thank you Peter!
I like the change in rhythm when the drum comes in, emphasizing different beats. Then, in the next verse, the background harmonies change the rhythm again. It stays very interesting throughout the arrangement. I really love the harmonies from the singing Geoffs. Thanks for your reaction
This arrangement delights my soul and brings tears to my eyes. It is stunning. The variety is so surprising at first hearing yet beautiful. Anything Geoff does is ok by me :)
I was surprised how warm this piece was and I was not expecting him to spend so much time in the higher octaves . I thought it would be super bassy and it wasn't. He again shows why he is so good with the range and reminded me he's not just Bass Geoff. Peter thank you again for getting these reactions out when you can and gosh your pit vipers make me miss my Oakleys from gosh middle school?! As usual you point out so many wonderful nuances I miss in my standard listening and pull me back to replay pieces. As holidays of a variety approach Kwanzaa , Hanukkah ,Christmas and which ever else I have missed may you all have blessed times with family and friends
I found you through the oogie boogie reaction. I stayed, because I love your voice and your Channel. But a little much just because you have such a nice and comforting voice.
Would love to see you and The Charismatic Voice channel do a joint reaction to some songs. You both have great reactions and discussion of vocal nuance.
Perfect time for "You're the mean one Mr Grinch" , one of the best Voiceplay song with Geoff goes inhuman ( no spoiler , but i bet your jaw will drop! )
This is a GREAT reaction! 🙌🏻 👏💥 Thanks for breaking it down-I love it when you do that! I think it’s super cool that Geoff is playing on the natural rhythm of the lyrics-the lyrics are in iambic pentameter, and he just pulls that out so well by adding that driving rhythm. I’m also beginning to think that while we all just love his voice and his ability to vocally take it to the cellars, his true superpower may well be arranging/composing. And I ask again, when will we hear more from The Bass Gang? Waiting with bated breath!
Honestly, the first time I listened to this, my little music theory heart was leaping with joy...like - this was so creative! And it worked so well! He's an amazing arranger!
This had always been one of my favorite Christmas songs, so I was thrilled to find Geoff's cover of it. He did an amazing job, and you helped me appreciate it even more - thank you!
It is a pleasure listening to your analysis of Geoff's work. Since you are a wonderful musician and talented vocalist yourself, you are able to point out a lot of things musically that most people would not recognize. Thank you for doing that. I learn a lot from you. BTW - I also love to hear your solo work. Your voice is very soothing with superior tonal quality.
And this works baby! Oh, absolutely! I love this song, such a great version and as usually a very interesting and informative reaction from Peter. Thank you! ❤
The most famous hit of a iconic band in an unrivaled gorgeous, phenomenal performance by Diana Ankudinova ( 18 y.o.) Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode / Marilyn Manson / BLUES ROCK VERSION cover) Please react to Diana Ankudinova ! She is called the queen of goosebumps, a unique voice - contralto with polyphonic overtones. She has insane and unique vocals and great stage presence and her performances (from the show You are Super ! ( win twice, 14 and15 y.o. ) and ShowMASKgoOn (win 18 y.o.) are gorgeously choreographed and you should find them very interesting. Top song choices are up Can't Help Falling in Love (18), Crow (18) , Wicked Game, Derniere Danse, Blizzard, Human, River. She is really an amazing young artist!
You helped me to understand why this is such a great cover, and I appreciate your teaching me why it impressed me so much. Geoff is such an amazing singer, what a joy!
2 in a row that have now become my favorite versions. This version of Geoff's cover is just so smooth and silky. I love just as it starts and hits that first Lil build. I also love where he mixes it up a lil and does the chorus repetition, it's a nice little change that's a treat. This was really some nice ear candy. Thank you yet again for an amazing reaction analysis, i do love being able to see ur first reactions! That big smile lol 😁
Thank you for your reaction! I am glad you are feeling better! Geoff killed this one, like always. Another fun Christmas one that has some good bass notes from Geoff is VP’s version of Baby It’s Cold Outside with Shoshana Bean. Keep them coming and Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
Unbelievable take on the song! Fantastic reaction and love all the knowledge that you have and most importantly the pure love of music and voices! Well done and thank you for bringing your spin to all these songs you have been reacting to. Enjoy the HOLIDAYS!!
Been waiting for your reaction; love it! I appreciate the professorial vibe, as well as your joy in hearing a job well done. Hope you're all well real soon!
Creative, innovative, and quite brilliant! He is absolutely one of the best in the business. Bravo Geoff! And Peter, thanks again for another terrific reaction and analysis, with or without a cold! I'm learning a lot and enjoying it more!
Your passion in the music and process is evident and thoroughly enjoyable. I love Geoff’s work but you helps point out the nuances that make it so good. I am learning so much. Thank you!
I've just rewatched this as I love it so much and I adore your reaction and explanations. And it still brings tears of joy. Bravo. I enjoyed it so much this time I've decided to become a patron. I already support Geoff and VoicePlay so it's not a high tier but you always delight me.
Geoff did such a great job on this! Love the break down and explanation of what was going on. My brain usually gets whirling when listening to such kinds of music. I get excited and happy I have to listen to stuff a dozen times to be able to pick things apart. That is why I like your reaction channel. Merry Christmas to you too!
When interviewed, Geoff talks about how he doesn't sing very loud which is why he keeps close to the mike. This would probably especially be true when he keeps his more natural timbre.
I just found this song with Geoff recently because I always love a good bass…and your reaction popped up in my feed…I absolutely LOVE watching your reactions!! 😍😁👏🏽 It’s always nice to see someone geek out over singers that I enjoy. Thanks for sharing! New subscriber here for sure! 😊❤️
According to Geoff, he was a former Christmas Caroler and he sang this song a lot. Coming from this, he’s very familiar with this song, which explains why he stepped away from the original.
I didn't think I would find a version that could compete with Annie Lennox's version but Geoff nails it. The styles are very dissimilar yet are wonderful arrangements.
The wicked medley Geoff arranged for voiceplay is in my opinion his best work. There isn’t as much bass but I’d love to see your take on it. There is a lot to unpack so it wouldn’t shock me if you made it a 30 minute video which would be great!
I said on another reaction that he's taken a tired ho hum song & revitalized it. This is so catchy & fun clearly a new favorite christmas song. Great ghost of christmas! reaction loved it! 😊❤️🎄⛄🎁❄️🎀 Thanks Peter xoxoxo
Absolutely incredible version, one of my favorite Christmas songs! Had a big ear splitting grin and definitely made some dumb faces! But loved the analysis! been helping me listen for those changes
Hi, thanks for the video. I would like to see your reaction to the wonderful singer Diana Ankudinova. She is still young, but her performances amaze people from all over the world.
Almost missed this one, you're spoiling us with sneaking in two a week, here! Always love Geoff's creative arrangements and fresh takes on songs. Caught the Zelda reference, too (Triforce.) On a side note, you look adorable in a Santa hat. Thanks!
Greetings Peter ‼️. Home Free released a new Christmas video last Friday….”MARY DID YOU KNOW”…. Tim does a large amount of the lead int & it gives me chills ☦️‼️☦️
The Charismatic Voice posted an interview with Tim last week. One if the questions she asked him from a Fan was about this. He said he has a song in mind for that type of collaboration and hopes it can be done.
I wanted to add...Since you are branching out some and doing some others in addition to a capella, I would love to get your reaction analysis of Small Town Titans Hallelujah and maybe even their You're A Mean One, Mr Grinch. Amazing range.
Great reaction! Go back and listen to what he plays over the credits. I think it is actually different from the rest of the song. He snuck it in there and it is pretty cool!
I really want to see you and Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice have a conversation. Maybe, since you're both opera singer, you could do some little demonstration.
I love your analysis. I'm not a singer in any stretch of the imagination...in fact, I'm not even a muscian. But shows like yours are certainly educational.
IMO some of Geoff's most creative and interesting work here -- a truly innovative take on this time-old song. The man never disappoints with his work -- bravo, Geoff!

Seconded Wicked. Although I'm sure it is already on your radar.

And Charles Dickens mentions it in "A Christmas Carol." So this song is old enough that there is no "original" version.
I agree with you Peter...This was awesome and different.
You have to do Home Free’s do you hear what I hear!!!! The low note in that one and it’s duration!
Peter: taking about drive
My brain immediately: IT ABOUT DRIVE ITS ABOUT POWER..

He does that, sometimes teases the listener who's expecting a super low note...
I can enjoy a reactor having an emotional response to a piece of music, even if they don’t know why the music is eliciting that response. But I love your reactions because you not only feel the music, you can articulate what’s happening in the music to cause that response.

I love the fact that he’s singing it correctly...”God rest ye merry, Gentlemen” rather than “God rest ye, merry Gentlemen.”
Geoff has quite literally one of my favorite voices on the planet so to watch your analysis on this just make me so happy 😊
I could listen to Geoff all day!!
I love your reactions. They're far more than you being blown away by the deep bass notes. Your analysis of the creativity and intricacies of the piece add so much more than the fan boy reactions!! Geoff deserves that as he's so much more than a deep bass voice.

I'm getting the subtle sense that people want you to break down the Voiceplay Wicked Medley.
I found you through the oogie boogie reaction.
I stayed, because I love your voice and your Channel.
But a little much just because you have such a nice and comforting voice.
My God, what beautiful analyzes you have, maestro! Just as beautiful as you are very beautiful.
I like the color change in the windows behind Geoff when it flips to the major and back again.
Peter: I hear he’s going much lighter with this one…
Me: This is going to be fun. 😈
I also liked the low breathy ahhs and note trail-offs - the natural sound you mentioned. So simple but yet adds so much depth.
Would love to see you and The Charismatic Voice channel do a joint reaction to some songs. You both have great reactions and discussion of vocal nuance.
YES
What I do love is your precise analysis of songs. Thank you!
Perfect time for "You're the mean one Mr Grinch" , one of the best Voiceplay song with Geoff goes inhuman ( no spoiler , but i bet your jaw will drop! )

you always point out things I would never hear. SUCH great reaction content my man
Tis song was my introduction to Geoff Castellucci, and I can say that I'm happy it was. He knew he was slaying in this whole song and I LOVE IT!!!
2 in a row that have now become my favorite versions. This version of Geoff's cover is just so smooth and silky. I love just as it starts and hits that first Lil build. Psuedo-round LOL. Its a semi-circle! hehehe! As always, Geoff is freakin brilliant, and as always, I totally enjoy your reactions!
Wait 'til the girls find out Geoff did a "strip tease". Lol.
I was thinking the same thing, semi-circle! Great musical minds! But the strip tease is good, too.
Always really enjoy your explanations of Geoff’s songs, excellent reaction 😎 keep up the good work and hope you’re feeling 100% soon 💪

Thanks for doing this today. I really appreciate hearing your analysis. I've had this on repeat for a couple of days now.
Cronies!!! Hilarious.
He brought this old beautiful song into this era. Thank you for your insight and reaction.
I’d love to see your take on voiceplay a wicked medley. Thanks for the insight and another appreciation of good music.
It is stylistically similar to how the Trans Siberian Orchestra does these, but really changes from what we normally see from this Christmas standard.
As soon as those drums and the bells came in, it immediately made me think of TSO as well.
thanks for sharing your reaction it was interesting to hear your analysis ❤️🏴
I found this song a few weeks ago and I must say I am obsessed ....... 🎶🎵🎶🎵❤️
wow....this is the first time I have listened to this, and........DAMN
Been waiting for your reaction; love it! I appreciate the professorial vibe, as well as your joy in hearing a job well done. Hope you're all well real soon!

Loved this reaction, as I do all of yours! Thanks so much!!!
Love the initial reactions and taking your time to provide insight on what you see and hear as a fellow professional bass singer.
Really fascinating. Love his varied range and color.👏👏👏
There's a T shirt idea in "Thick, resonant and exposed."
Great reaction!
the lighting in the windows changes to match the singing too
I didn't think I would find a version that could compete with Annie Lennox's version but Geoff nails it. The styles are very dissimilar yet are wonderful arrangements.

This right here. I think he’ll give 1-3 vipers to wicked for the bass that is there.
There's plenty of bass, but it is mostly more subtle in the background vibing perfectly with Layne's percussion.
@@sprumf I know he’s never done but the runs Rachel does at the end would be pit vipers status for me lol
@@chandleraskew6496 yea. Maybe he will that time though. I think he’ll love a lot of it.

Voiceplay's Wicked medley would be something i would love to see a breakdown of.

Always love your analysis of Geoff being a bass singer yourself. Thank you and Merry Christmas Peter.
Hi, thanks for the video. I would like to see your reaction to the wonderful singer Diana Ankudinova. She is still young, but her performances amaze people from all over the world.
Love love your reactions. So honest and great breakdown. 👍❤️
Great job Peter! Glad Maggie got to Meet you last week(ish) and react to the Bass Gang again! Emperor is so awesome :D Love this reaction.
great reaction and analysis as usual!! love your videos. keep up the great work :)

Geoff: It's about drive, it's about power
Merry Christmas, Peter. Have a good one.
Greetings Peter ‼️. Home Free released a new Christmas video last Friday….”MARY DID YOU KNOW”…. Tim does a large amount of the lead int & it gives me chills ☦️‼️☦️
Am I the only one that would like to hear a colab between Geoff, Tim and Avi?
Not sure there would be a speaker able to handle it.
People have been begging for that for years....unfortunately I don't it's going to happen :/
