About Amelie Island 2000: "The tournament was delayed several days due to bad weather. Players were forced to play two matches on a single day in order to complete the tournament. Third round and quarterfinals were played on Saturday - the semifinals and final were played on Sunday." Doubles: "The tournament was cancelled in the semifinal round due to several delays caused by bad weather. Tournament organisers decided to priorize the conclusion of the singles tournament, with players being forced to play two rounds on a single day." Seles: 'It was so hard to all players with so many matches in a row that we had to play', Seles said after her crowning. 'Everybody had to play two matches in a single day. I thought that we'd never finish this tournament', she added. Thank you JTC!!😍
Seles lost less than 5 games per match to win that tournament. She kept her streak until the Hilton head semifinals (lost to Pierce), then won Rome ❤ and lost in the quarters of the French open (against Pierce again).
I have watched tennis for many years - And it's amazing to see that there is very very little difference between all the players and a champion. Both players were great, but that very small difference makes THE difference.
I LOVED the Amelia Island tournament. Sad that it's gone now.
Same since I live one hour away 😢
