Sahara by Nightwish is a good example of floor doing the same vocal techniques as this one (Indian/Middle Eastern vibes)

Im a piano teacher and teach up to level 12 theory. My dream is to sit down with each of their songs and analyze them. But no matter theory you know or not know they are super enjoyable to listen to.

The latest album has a song called "Music" that was a bit challenging to Floor at first, but after some rehearsing she mastered it. There's no live version, but the official lyric video is very beautiful too. Hope to see your analysis some day! :)
"Music" is my favourite Nightwish song, I literally cry tears of joy listening to it. I would love to hear Nina's thoughts on it.
It is musically in depth and I like your analysis, picking out parts of the song I may have overlooked. 2024 for Nightwish, we are expecting a live album. Also I know the next studio album is being worked on. What I am hoping for, Nightwish to perform live with an orchestra. I know fellow Symphonic Metal band Epica will be playing with an Orchestra this year in Amsterdam. I bought a ticket for that, so will travel from London to Amsterdam. So that will be a great experience.

The new Nightwish studio album will come out this year, not a live album. We might get the first single of the new album soon.

Tuomas' compositions are 🔥 FIRE, then add Floor and these incredible musicians - its superb!
Tribal is from album Human Nature which I think it’s quite a challenge lyrically speaking to deal with all those difficult words and syllables. Add that to the band and Floor performing incredibly. I heavily recommend Music and Shoemaker. Both challenges for Floor. While one super soft, the other something which goes beyond 🧡
The album, Human :||: Nature has been around for a while, they are just getting around to editing and releasing videos of live performances.
I would recommend doing the entire album from the Lyric Videos on RUclips (in album order) since you seem to be enjoying Floor's vocal agility and the musical styling ...

"This might be my favorite...". I know how you feel. After listening to their catalogue, I can't make my top5 list, constant battle with myself, just gave up.
I feel that no band has this percentage of great songs/all songs.
Sahara is the obvious recommendation if you like Floor in this performance.

Great commentary and analysis Nina. Tuomas is an amazing composer and then there is FLOOR! I think you would love many of the songs from the latest record "Human :II: Nature". Every song has a great lyric video. Floor is doing some extremely difficult vocal gymnastics on most song from this record. Tribal is from this same record.
From what I understand about music, the best work with Floor's vocals in the Indian style can be found on After Forever's great album called Decipher from 2001.

Thank you for another good analysis. I would say pick any song off of Human Nature and you can not go wrong. Some like Noise, I like Shoemaker. My favorite is Procession, mostly for the message in the official video.

This is an amazing compilation of different Tribal performances, very dynamic, and powerful in my opinion, 6:38 they have a few tongue twisters on the album 😂 I wonder how many takes it took her to nail them all

While I appreciate that you predominantly focus on the music and singing I thought you might have mentioned that this is a compilation of several concerts and that Floor was still singing and windmilling when 5 months pregnant in one of them !!

Did you see Floor has been uploading some of the old After Forever stuff? It's a fun blast of the past.
Fellow members were back then Luuk (bass - still a friend of mine) Sander (Grunt/Guitar), either Mark (from Epica) or Bas (2nd guitar, also sings sometimes), Lando or Joost (keys, Joost you might also remember from Ayreon) and the one and only on drums is André.

As we know, Nightwish are best performing live, but I think I have found two exceptions to this rule! The songs "Music" and "Pan" are both lyric videos. Both musically and vocally I think that they will really intrigue you! 🙂

It's only available as a lyric video, but Procession I highly recommend.
Also, another vocal masterpiece, if you've yet to experience it, is Shoemaker.
Definitely shivers and possible tears in both of these.
The difference with Tribal and the above suggestions is that they were written for Floor's talents.
Others I seen you analyse have been written for previous singers.

Hi Nina! Great and very interesting reaction and analysis (as always)! Bends and slides are amongst one of Floor's great specialities. She can execute them perfectly even across multiplre registers... NB. I still think you should react to "The Day that the world breaks down" by Ayreon (studio version). Floor is on it, doing some great vocal acrobatics and it will open a whole universe of great singers for you!

Watching all this, knowing Floor was sick before she was made aware, then dealing with that, then being really pregnant while on tour. I love the original clip just for the skeleton dance lol. But yeah they do play with a bit of middle eastern type motifs

A little more Arabic scale than Indian I believe because Floor sang Abraham cut into three and I guess Thomas means Abraham the ancestor to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
