    I love the amount of detail you put into dry fitting and laying things out and why it's important to do so. My stepdad was helping me with my first tile job a few years back and I couldn't believe the amount of time he spent laying things out for fit, function, and finish. At the time I thought he was WASTING time, but I was very mistaken. When we began the installation we flew right through because we had planned for every corner, floor vent, and edge. Since then, I've taken the time to lay things out for each phase of our projects. To anyone reading this (including myself) it's important to remember to slow down and take the time to think about the finished look. You're already saving so much money by doing it yourself, you owe it to yourself to maximize that savings by making it LOOK professional, well thought out, and executed.

    • @Studhawk
      @Studhawk 5 лет назад

      No i disagree a laser line is arou d 5mm thick so where is the level in the middle of trhe laser line or to the left or the right side of the 5mm thick laser line???? We achieve 1mm in 6 metres by not using a laser leveler but by using a 3metre straight edge with a 2metre level on top - so you create a 3m spirit level, To make a 6metre spirit level use 3 x 3metre straight edges with a 2m level on top - this is far more accurate than laser leveling!!!!!!! Very informative! I'm in the 100 phase of our bathroom remodel (lol) where I'm installing a 60" x 36" soaking tub. Watched your videos on installing the drain and overflow and tub faucets, determined that what needed to happen required calling in a licensed plumber to reroute everything. NO shame in admitting I needed professional help and was in over my head with that portion. But the backerboard and tile installation will be something I can handle, since I have a general knowledge of laying floor tile. You have a fan now, I will be watching your videos for other projects and helpful tips!

    I love working with Schluter down here in in FL also. The other benefit of Schluter products is that even though it is way more expensive, the Kerdi panel boards are super light weight panels, which are great for me to carry up the stairs in some of my flip condos. I can carry the entire bathroom worth of Kerdi panel boards in one trip up the steps! With Hardibacker or Durock or Densshield, it's one heavy board at a time! I'm getting too old! I don't even mess with the Kerdi membrane stuff anymore, takes too long to install, just give me the panel boards and the Kerdi Band and I'm off to the races.

My husband and I purchased carrara marble for our bathroom shower walls. It's definitely more 'soft' than the ceramic or porcelain tile you reference in this video. Where would I find more information on the type of cement to use and other things we need to understand about tiling our shower walls with carrara marble? Or, did we purchase the wrong stone? I noticed this tile job you did not use shims across bottom of first row, instead the lil white tile was placed directly against tub. Is a gap not always necessary where tile meets the tub? What determines using a gap or direct placement on tub? Also I love your videos. I have accomplished so much on my home because of them. Thanks so much for all you do!

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  4 года назад

      Hi Lisa, in most cases leaving a space is ideal. in this case we were installing tile on a ledge that was screwed to the frame with a superior quality tub that does not move much at all. Some decisions are made with experience but most protocol is not. Cheers!

    What is the distance between the bathtub and Kerdi band if you use it on the very bottom? It should go down as low as possible, but shouldn't be visible out of future tiles. My Kerdi board will be even with the lips of the tub and maybe 1 mm over it. I assume it should be about 2-3 mm distance, but would be good to know you opinion on this question. Thank you for the informative and so artistically done film.

    I did a 3x6 subway pattern. Over cement board. Just back buttered each tile row by row. Kept them level with 1/8 spacers. Took forever. I started in center. So cuts are balanced. Next time I tile faster.

      wow, back butter on subway tile is tedious. Cheers for the effort!

    GREAT video. Question-- why no mind to the distances between tiles?

    Question? I am adding mosaic 3x12 tile along side 12x24 floor tile on vertical shower wall. The problem that I believe I will have is marrying the different widths of tile for a seamless finish...suggestion?

    Awesome video bro, cracked me up with u n your son talking. I'm about to start my tile on this big job I'm on. 2' x 2' on the bath floor and 1'x 2' for my walk in shower walls stacked vertically. Wish me luck, I have a shower nesh that I built before tile selection so fingers crossed

    do you tile the floor or wall first in a bathroom? Not in the shower but main area.

    at 54:41 you started the mosaic tile on the wall that sloped. why would you start on that side rather than the side that was level? im only asking because i am creating a full length niche along the back wall (with the mosaic tile as the accent in it), and might run into that same slope issue where ill cut the tile to fit once i get to the plumbing side. Thank you for all your tips and tricks! i love them!

      it does not matter where you start as long as you map out where you are going and have a plan to get there. Cheers!
