Incredible event, Phil!! Can’t wait till WTF 2024! Tuttle Creek Rd and Movie Rd were my favorite sections. Glad to see that Zac smashed the climbs and fluttered the conversation 🦋.
Back in the latter half of previous century, around 1983 I was the weird kid in Independence who rode a bike. "Why ya wearin' those funny shoes and tight shorts?" ... "Why would anybody ride a bicycle 100 miles"... Then I bought a new fangled mountain bike and got even more odd comments. "Ya coulda bought a motorcycle and wouldn't have to pedal". Now, 40 year later... My son discovered cycling and started doing what are considered epic road climbs- Onion Valley, Horseshoe Meadows, Whitney Portal. And finally... a bike event with big inflatable arches and all from my home town? Awesome. I hope to be there next year.
8:00 - 8:30 is top 5 most epic bike scenes I ever seen on youtube paired with the fondo name-sake ! those snow capped mountains probably 10 miles in the distance looked amazin as the backdrop to dropping down into the scene
Looks like a great day! Quite the history of racing up there too. Whiskey Creek Stage Race in the late 80's is one we'd do as juniors and the pros. It's a shame so many of these old stage races no longer exist in the US. The Sierras are an awesome place to ride as you all showed. Shout out to Steve Barnes too for the Everest Challenge and all the great races he personally put on himself! Like the Death Valley Road Race etc. This fondo is in good company.
I raced that Whiskey Creek Stage Race in '87. Great experience back then and sorry those races are all gone now. I will look forward to coming down to do the WTF Event in 2024. Hope I can find advertising for it as a reminder to go enter at the right time.
Phil, I really enjoyed this video. Great country, great folks and the whisky looks awesome - definitely the best way to retire - gravel and grog ! keep the content coming. Thanks, J
Fantastic...driven through Lone Pine..amazing part of the world...My 2 fav. cyclists..Peter Sagan, and you Phil...Why..you make cycling what it is supposed to be..and both of you have faced yourselves in success and failures...but never give in..you give more...Great event...
Wow! Awesome recap review. Did nobody else in the RUclips space show up? This event looks perfect for Vegan Cyclist and I don't see him here. Been to the area in September and it is really amazing just how accessible the entire area is all the way from the continental US' highest point to the lowlands. Just gotta be mindful of the altitude and weather changes that comes with the area.
Dude, while I was watching I literally thought that this was an event that had Tyler's name all over it, haha! He's a busy dude doing those impossible routes, haha! Maybe next year he'll do it.
Loved this event! I signed up for the 75, but opted for the 50 miler once the sand humbled me. I'm definitely going to come back next year, great event!!!
Super cool event. I've put myself on the waitlist for next year. Can anybody tell me what those leather WTF-branded things are at 13:16? I've looked on the event site and don't see anything like them,
Phil - thanks for having aid stations set-up with gluten-free food options. As someone with Celiac, it's refreshing to see someone out there gets it that we cannot just eat regular food. Hopefully, more ride event coordinators take note and increase GF options for their rides. As a Los Angeles native, I know all too well the history of William Mulholland. Like you stated, the roads in LA named after him are cool - the person himself, not so much. Congrats on a successful first WTF event - maybe next year I'll sign up. Thanks for sharing, sir 🍻🍺
I regularly saw 500w on my power meter for about 30 seconds before I fell over. If you could drop 800 or 1000W for a long time and had massive skill maybe. But not me!
The scenery is breathtaking and is the biggest attraction for me. I am seriously considering traveling halfway round the world for this event. Where can we find the cutoff times for the different race distances? The cutoff times are the primary determinant if the event is doable for ordinary cycling enthusiasts like myself. (No sense in joining an event for the spectacular views if I wasn't even allowed to see all of it because I didn't make the cutoff times.) I'm really excited about this one. Great acronym for an event too.
I was just in Cali with my cousin, thought I saw you eating fish tacos one at the famous fish taco place in Ventura. Anyhow I rode Mulholland, I think most of it ( 3 bitches were a actuality 4 bitches but I love every minute) Being a flat lander for Virginia Beach it was difficult but I’d go back in a minute. Thanks for you great videos!
I’ve always wanted to drive down the road that Carl’s Jr is on or something close and see how far east it does on the road ..maybe I’ll consider gravel now 😅 if I wanna sightsee + suffer
Incredible event, Phil!!

Tuttle Creek Rd and Movie Rd were my favorite sections.

Thank you! I really enjoyed the butterfly stuff. Made him repeat it all for the camera and then he rode away from me 😂

Looks like a killer event!
Looks like a great event. Amazing scenery. Will check out next year.
Looks like a blast- plotting for next year:). #Woodinville Whiskey - Great choice!
I saw the Whiskey and the Fondo, but didn't see Phil dancing Tango.
I'll make it to the 2024 event if you promise to tango
Would Emily count? She can probably tango
Wow that scenery, thanks!
Staggering.....We don't get that sort of views in the flatlands of eastern England....
Awesome as always.
It was so fun cheering on my husband and the other riders for this event. We can’t wait to join the festivities again next year.
Thanks for coming!

Still having a massive FOMO, but even though it looks brutal, I still want to check this area, looks epic!
That’s it I’m doing this one next year…..I visited that area on a road trip last year….great looking experience….🇬🇧🇺🇸✊
Looks like a really fun fondo! Nice video and commentary, as usual.
Super cool event. I've put myself on the waitlist for next year.

6:00 Shout out to Jeff Cadwell of Velofix LA!
So incredible for chamois butt’r to offer a tasting. You really should know what it tastes like before committing.
Looks awesome, I’m in next year 🤘🏼

Come up to Seattle and go to the Woodinville whisky tasting room + LOTS of KOMs for you up here.
Never commented before but that looks just amazing… a real Bucket list ride!

Thank you Karl!
Woodinville whiskey? Great to see sponsors from my old hood of Seattle.
Wonder if Laurens Sweeck could have made it through the sand traps w/o dismounting?
