    Just finished a job (13 years but new management wanted me out) and just did my last exam (been studying on the side). It’s been the longest stint without riding since I learnt to ride at 4yrs old (just a couple of short rides in the last 24 months). Today I’m cleaning my bikes and charging my lights. Tomorrow I ride.

    I’m 72 now. Right leg has been shattered twice. Right knee crushed (it’s now more metal & screws than bone). And now my damn hip is going bad. BUT, I can still ride my bike =:). I don’t always get to the top of the hill. Doesn’t matter. I get to ride my bike. I enjoy your videos. Thanks

      You are inspirational. It's hard to keep some people down. I had a total hip replacement and was back on the bike (I ride road) in 3 weeks. Had to lay the bike to get on it at first but in 6 weeks I was back to doing some training. You will do fine, I just know it.😊

    This is what I needed to hear today, some sad person stole my bike on Tuesday while I was at work. I work at a plasma center where we help people live better lives, a donor chose to steal my bike. The cops will find him, but probably not my bike. I'm gonna go so a soul walk and think things out. Much love Phil.

    I rode to school from 1st to 6th grade. I remember that no matter what happened that day, or what was going on at home, when I went out and saw my bike on the rack then everything was ok. I recently picked up an identical bike to the one I had then (but a size up) and still feel that way every time I ride it.

    I've been riding for forty years. At seventy-one, still have occasional 200-mile weeks. I love being on the bike enough that I do this regularly. No plan. No goal. No destination. Spin. Squawk at crows. Delight in the sun on my back. And gratitude...yes! Always!

    • @DoctorDick

      Squawking at crows made me smile 😍 The favourite part of my ride(s) is saying hello (or politely saying "move please") to all the animals I see. Always formal.. "Good morning Cowie, good afternoon lambies" It's good for the soul to act a bit silly

    I don't personally suffer from anxiety and depression, but I can empathize and understand the miserable feeling of being helpless and frustrated that a person can not have over their own mind. Cycling helps my mind and creates a certain type of happiness that is similar to what a person who surfs feels, or a musician feels when they play live... there's something about the rhythmic nature of cycling where there are no cars that just works for my brain. I don't understand it. I don't overthink it. I just go. Thanks for the great message and I hope that those that have mental health issues find their tool (bicycle, guitar, surf board) to improve their lives. Maybe that dickhead in the car that was so angry at you needs a bike. Ha Ha.

    I have suffered from Bipolar 2 depression and anxiety since I was a kid. I am now 71 and though the meds make life possible , it is only exercise ( read : biking, xc ski/snowshoe , walking ) that makes me feel good. Just a plug for cycling etc being front line therapy for depression. And you don't have to be best , fastest , thinnest , KOM or anything. Just exercise.

    Everyone needs a sole ride. For me it’s a cruise around on the mountain or gravel bike with a nice coffee stop somewhere. In the UK we’re just coming into autumn and there’s more time for some fun on the bike which is always refreshing and sets you up nicely for winter training.

    As a Gulf War Op: Desert Storm/Desert Shield veteran and active duty Paramedic who suffers from PTSD, anxiety and depression, every ride is a soul ride. I waited way too long before seeking help based on the stigma that I'm the one who is supposed to be helping others and not asking for help for myself. Weekly therapy sessions and as many hours as possible on the bike are my escape from the thoughts that creep into my mind. Thank you for helping break that stigma and letting others know that it's perfectly fine to ask for help. Maybe one day I'll make it back to Cali and we'll meet on the road.

    I just got layed off from my well paying architecture job, and usually I go into that with high anxiety. Nowadays, I look fwd to the extra time to ride my new Aeroad, lose a bit more weight, get better fitness to not get dropped on PCH on saturday, and ponder my nxt move. Riding bikes has given me such a gift to my mental health ((and)) physical health. I think the only thing that would send me into a tail spin is if I couldnt ride my bike, or if my bike got stolen etc. Hitting my mid 50's and I feel like I'm in my 30's. I'm looking fwd to meeting new people on the group rides, and I always say to anyone that will listen - cycling is the new . It really is the best networking social activity that an out of work architect can partake in.

  • @starlitshadows
    @starlitshadows Год назад

    I used to drive Decker and Yerba and the rest of those roads along with PCH just for fun. Lots of wildlife out there. Love those roads. Haven't done much riding out there. I need to get in better shape so I can have some fun out there soon. Need some more soul rides in my life. Also, maybe its the cycling that brought you out of those depressions. After riding the last week and a half every day. I'm realizing just how important consistent exercise is for my mental health as well. I just feel different. 20 yrs as a skateboarder, almost every damn day kept me mentally and physically healthy along with about 10 yrs of weight training. After running into some health issues and resulting spine problems. Cycling and hiking is about all I can do. But I need more of it. Hopefully I can get in better shape maybe I'll see you around. If not there in the San Gabriels. Cheers Phil!

    I absolutely get this and I only started cycling hardcore in May. I had a goal last August to lose 100lbs. By May I was down about 40-50. I needed more cardio, took up biking because I used to do it as a teen.
    Turned 40 in May, down 75lbs and feeling amazing. And today I'm down 92. But recently Ive felt kinda like it's tough to keep up the intensity.
    I then realized, I can't just go balls to the wall everyday. I need to go on an easy Zone 2 ride somewhere pretty. By a lake. In the mountains. And preferably with my wife. Those rejuvenate me. They bring me back to what cycling does best: lets me cover a lot of beautiful area, burn calories and feel good.
    😂💀 I'm dying at the "take the X dipshit" 😂😂
