What does that last sentence even mean? Attack anyone who comes for him and his opinions? He wouldn't even agree with that. Worship him and follow everything he says? Again, he wouldn't agree with that. Molly coddle him and wrap him in cotton wool? Yeah, he wouldn't agree with that either. Just take in the knowledge and do something with it, no one can protect him but himself and he seems to be doing fine in that regard. All these buzzwords and phrases mean absolutely nothing in reality because if it came down to it what are you or anyone else gonna do to actually protect him? The only way you can "protect" him is by making sure what he's saying doesn't get forgotten in a few weeks, months, years or decades. Just make sure he's not doing all this for nothing to change.
Thank you for sharing this Akala, as a white middle aged Irish man I've learned so much from you over the last few years about black history, racism and simply black people's day to day lived experiences which I as a man with white privilege was honestly oblivious to so so much of what is really going on, even though I can never fully understand what it's really like for people from black backgrounds, I certainly have a much better appreciation of the real issues which people have to face because of the knowledge you've shared with us. Thank you. ✌❤ I was really looking forward to seeing you perform at the Eden Festival this weekend but unfortunately it's been cancelled because the coronavirus. Catch you next time 🤞
im a white guy myself in my 30's and while I agree with what akala says absolutely about the problems in the country I do have problems with this idea of a universal white privilege I grew up in a less than fancy part of a northwest city and trust me young white kids get it just as bad from all angles. white privilege is a little disingenuous if you suggest its universal that needs to be acknowledged here
Hi there, I really don't want to offend you or to come across as patronizing so please take this as it's meant to be intended, but you misunderstand the meaning of white privilege. I certainly don't consider myself to have grown up in a privileged position in society, I grew up on a council estate in a single parent family with all the disadvantages which this situation has to offer, but being a white Male wasn't one of those disadvantages. I'll try explaining myself as briefly as possible with this example, so, when the Irish people first went over to America, albeit they were treated terribly, they even went over as indentured servants, "not the same as being a slave, I must add" but the fundamental difference between being a disadvantaged black person and being a disadvantaged white person is that by simply being a white person it didn't hold you back from advancing yourself and being able to achieve a better position in society, and by christ did our Irish ancestry take full advantage of their white privilege over in America in that time, just look at the surnames of a lot of very powerful people over there. I hope that this explanation gets my meaning of white privilege across in a roundabout way and thank you for reading it.

Just want to say thank you Akala for bringing the idea of historical materialism to light, and explaining it in many contexts to people who may have never contextualized history in that way.
"Less than 1% of the population have been in the care system, yet a recent review chaired by Lord Laming reports that about 50% of children in custody have been in care" That hit me like a truck. Hi Akala, i have watched your Oxford video on Black history across the world and wondered if you had done a book, would write one or could recommend some. That's a very dead idea. Do you not realise that Black British trauma isn't expressed in America? But there's you lot protesting or following BLM UK or BLM LDN over a people who doesn't even realise that black people exist outside of the USA. Lockdown is all part of this, since missing an entire season due to Covid-19, but that's the World at the moment. Simple as this really, until Black British people wake up from their Black American spell (I bet they do black magic), they'll just be an underclass in England, while the other Ethnic Minorities do a better job in society. Black British people haven't learned a thing since the 1990's after all this riots against Police Brutality and the NF/BNP. Now you're all bunched in an acronym known as BAME, but treated last in the acronym? Nah mate, you lot need to stop following that protesting malarkey like Black Americans and get government jobs.
So true, when I lived in Liverpool the ghetto areas (which where I’m from would predominantly be black or Asian areas) were all white. Exactly the same ends, different ethnicities. It opened my eyes.

Marriage in a registry office costs very little, £30 to £49, plus about £10 for wedding certificates? I'm pretty sure the vast majority can afford it, including a plate of sandwiches at home and a few photos taken on a phone. You dont need an expensive dress or suit, you dont need a gourmet dinner for hundreds of guests 2 people, a registrant and a witness, which can be anyone available, not even a guest.
Just want to say thank you Akala. I think you’re brilliant, I never disagree with a word you say! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Much needed discussion. I will be in touch regarding an educational project I am initiating for our community . Would love your support. Bless up 🖤
Do you think the youth in London think their badder as the disparity between rich and poor is much more obvious as it’s easier to get about the city? Croxteth, Moss Side etc guys will rarely leave their ends?
Very good question, I think a good place to start is the first people of Australia, I have been studying alternative cosmology, and human history, and the ancient people of Australia may have been the first people's, not Africa. Just an observation. ✊🏼🤔
If you were to do another of these I would ask as someone who is trying to be an ally; is first off how to be a better one? And how do I handle family members/friends who no matter what I say or do just either dismiss or outright deny (sometimes quite aggressively) the issue of racism in the UK and well, the world. I work hard to not be aggressive myself or be accusatory (as i find that only makes them listen less) but no matter how I approach it the results the same. I have a big family which means sadly I see a lot of it aswell so I've had to give up a lot of my free time to try and just encourage them see the other side of the argument and its honestly its exhausting, I commend the folks here who basically live that debate everyday. So I guess the my queston from that is, is there a better way of approaching it, or am I taking too much responsibility for how they think? I don't expect answers to live by, or answers at all really though it would be nice obviously (if only things were so simple) lol. But just wanted a dialogue where maybe people have had the same worries or have had luck in their circles and made progress. I'm hoping I won't just be told i'm virtue signalling or blind or many of the other things that i hope i'm not but if people feel that way do let me know i'd like to think of myself as someone who'll never stop learning so its not something i'd dismiss outright. Regardless of all that i'm learning a lot from you Akala and its pointing me in the direction of history I never thought to look which is awesome, I always like hearing about the cool stories behind the haitian revolution and how the UK is still kind of finding its identity in a post imperial globalised world. Keep it up man.
Going back to your look at educational reform; I've become a big believer in introducing mental health to school curriculums. Not necessarily in great depth. But enough to arm kids with the tools to deal with the stresses of modern life, notice it in others and what to do if you do notice it in others. Also, and possibly most importantly, that seeking help for your mental health does not make you weak or is somehow something to be ashamed of. This and basic politics. Since my stance now is that we should have a chance, not only to learn how to form a political stance but also the time to do so before we get to voting age. One argument I've been presented in opposition is "Well, what then would you take out of the school system? There's only so much time in the day/week" I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on this as the mental health part of this could not only change lives, but promote empathy and to an extent community from that.. And also the politics because it gives arguably the most free thinking members of society (kids) the chance to question the status quo in ways we could never dream of before they get educationally beaten into boxes. Love your work Eternal Parrot
Helpful listening! :D Thanks. I'm a 50-50 kid...I think. :D Had Humous and olives for the first time at 20 :D Lool! The comparison of White and Black single-parent homes...? Is it that straightforward though? Clearly, there are a number of factors that play into community issues, not just. However, Being a minority without a father figure in the home could have a different impact if you grow up in a country that you quickly realize you are not seen as a native? VS being a white child without a father, yet clearly have a sense of belonging to the nation. Would that not impact the way both develop a sense of identity? Question: You mentioned Sowell! Do you think, the minimum wage here excludes the Blacks in poor economic backgrounds; preferring those who have evidence of skills and less of a gamble for their money's worth? Making it harder for those with Criminal records, poor grades, and/or work experience, even if they could do a better job than the former?
9:00 YES. That racism is also specifically used to avoid antagonizing white poor people and pit them against their black peers. If dysfunction is driven by poverty and class dynamics, but it's presented as a racial problem, that divides the working and impoverished class into black people that can be demonized and white people who can be seen as victims. The poor white folks are then in a difficult position. If they speak out against this racist frame, they have to own up to the fact that the same dysfunction plagues them. If they join in the racist framing, they are not blamed. Of course, this keeps the problem unsolved. So white working class people have to stand in solidarity with black people against punitive solutions and in favour of social programs that support all poor and provide them with stability and opportunity.

@akalamusic On the China / Africa question please check out Hannah Ryder on twitter @hrmryder She is doing the most work on this question and is best placed to give a real answer as an African development policy analyst who is working in both Africa and China .
On Tweeter a person asked / suggested that you should be a leader for black people in UK and my response was that the CODE is the leader and tho you are a good representer .. black people in general shouldn't depend on 1 for the battle we all face.. Do you agree?
To all the people filled with hatred and anger in them, who hate watching a strong black man speak up, why put yourself through this and watch the video to leave negative comments. I would never sit through something I didn’t believe or care about then furiously type away in my keyboard. Get some positivity in your life..doughnuts
Some great points made though I’m not convinced that the breakdown of family was given a fair analysis. I think whatever background you come from, family breakdowns can be very destructive and should be talked about especially in cases where civil unrest isn’t a major factor for violence.
CHANGED my name to Jude!! Not for Catholic reasons; I'm Jewish. However, I am obscure & the patron of "almost" lost causes. Yes, I knew what it meant in German, too; obviously, intended by me. We define ourselves. YES? YES.
be anti racist. If you find yourself around a group of associates or friends that are perpetuating negative black stereotypes or making inappropriate comments/jokes, spend some time educating them. Explain your truth and why you feel the way you do, show them how you came to think and feel this way and do what you can to debunk some of those stereotypes within your own community and friendship circles. If everyone does this in years to come a change should be seen 🤞🏾
Dont suport anything racist research companies and their backers , defriend clear racist associates , help suport causes for the good and realise most of tell lies vision is trying to make you divided and make you think every other country or humans hates us or to go to war with them, yeah there is a lot just treat others how you want to be treated yourself also good way to go through life , we are all human
Doing any of the above should help remove the ignorant lense of people also check out the link below it a interview on the Joe rogan show with daryl Davis who speaks about the exact thing discussed here ruclips.net/video/Z6FDQ301Q7s/видео.html
@@jynx1992 gen up question Is that antiracist? My dad brought me up in a manner that if you hear that kinda shit you talk up. He called it being a decent human being If that is what antiracist actually is can we go back to calling it basic human decency please
I think this is the voice we all need to hear in these times, nice one Akala. I have a question: a big topic (in mainstream) right now is how BAME communities are disproportionately affected by Covid 19; I personally feel that it is a socio-economic/class issue and not an ethnic issue (obvs BAME communities are heavily represented in working classes).......is making this issue helping or hurting the cause? Is it a liberal leftie bandwagon issue? I ask this as you frame many of the issues as being class-related, rather than ethnicity-related. Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks and all the best, from a white guy trying to deepen his understanding.
the black community have been the biggest victims of racism. There are enough history books and statistics to back it up. redlining, jim crow, slavery, appartheid... its time to dismantle systematic racism and bigotry
Interesting you say the state has a way of turning the white working class against black and I'm not claiming to be that versed on this and open to learning. I have noticed its the white middle/upper class, the kind of folk who has university paid for them, those whose parents got them a brand new mini cooper when they got their license, those whose parent will pay for an international gap year, arguably the ones who have benefited from a white privilege the most. Calling the working-class white demographic, those living month to month, those who the first car was £300 bucket, those whose parents could never take them abroad as they never had the money growing up, that they are they privileged white supremacist, out of all the whites in the UK, the whites furthest from the height of privilege. Is this a tactic of the upper classes or massive oversight which is only doing more to flame the fire of your point of turning the working-class whites against black.
I like Akala but calling us relatively privileged compared to people in our home is a joke..maybe he ain’t seen the stuff I seen but we have crazy privilege
You know how to hold the government to account. Find the true core and transform. When you are skillful enough to take almost nothing, then you can begin to give almost everything. It's a numbers and science game and strategy. When mass numbers can become calm and sedentary and care enough to need less and less then things organically change and environments improve naturally. Darkness cannot penetrate light.

Anything to be trained by you!
Bless up 🖤
Beautiful
Thank you.
Do you think the youth in London think their badder as the disparity between rich and poor is much more obvious as it’s easier to get about the city? Croxteth, Moss Side etc guys will rarely leave their ends?
Hi Akala, or anyone, what science books would you recommend that discuss race, genetics, how it all came to be, etc?

Man like Eternal Parrot lol another great video, salute
The fact that I see Darren Grimes and Tom Harwood a lot more that I see this man on TV is a joke
samwwrl98ify Great point. And surely that’s proof of how set the anti black agenda is

Mental illness (diagnosed or not) severely affects families, so yes, it definitely needs to be addressed.
'Home governments back home' says it all really ...
Have you seen the doc. Jews of west Africa Documentary?
Also i live in the Caribbean(im a dual citizen) and when i tried to spread my view on the brutal injustice against George Floyd i was met with silence. Why do people hate the truth?
"Shame & Guilt" for the Nefarious Injustices inflicted upon others,
for centuries. Knowledge is POWER and TRUTH is available for ALL
today, who seek it !!
@Cinnamon Lee that's factually incorrect.
George Floyd held a pregnant woman at gun point and threatened to shoot the unborn baby.
I won't be mourning the arsehole.
People in general go all silent, because they have been conditioned not to question authority and societal norms.

@akalamusic On the China / Africa question please check out Hannah Ryder on twitter @hrmryder She is doing the most work on this question and is best placed to give a real answer as an African development policy analyst who is working in both Africa and China .
This was brilliant!

On Tweeter a person asked / suggested that you should be a leader for black people in UK and my response was that the CODE is the leader and tho you are a good representer .. black people in general shouldn't depend on 1 for the battle we all face.. Do you agree?

Dave Chappelle probably answered this question more honestly than he can.

YES? YES.
Yes we do sir another persons opinion of you shouldn’t be stronger than your self definition

What race of the woman you got out with?
16:00 Fucking spot on man. This is so important to understand about racism and I wish every white person would listen.
I recently herd a sheriff say that the police are most angry at the guy who suffocated George Floyd. The nearby officers should have taken over
Angry he did on camera.
If you ever do this again I'd like to ask as a white guy how can I be a better ally?
be anti racist.
Doing any of the above should help remove the ignorant lense of people also check out the link below it a interview on the Joe rogan show with daryl Davis who speaks about the exact thing discussed here

Is that antiracist?
My dad brought me up in a manner that if you hear that kinda shit you talk up. He called it being a decent human being
If that is what antiracist actually is can we go back to calling it basic human decency please
😍
DO YOU THINK .DAT THINKING IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL POWER.JAH GIVE US?
This man makes money on convincing people they are victims.
scott701988 exactly and they love him for it 🥴😂
the black community have been the biggest victims of racism. There are enough history books and statistics to back it up. redlining, jim crow, slavery, appartheid... its time to dismantle systematic racism and bigotry

TOO MUCH THINKING SOMETIMES CAN BE POISON OR NOT?
