What Shohei Ohtani has done has shattered the modern baseball concept by showing a special athlete can excel at both hitting and pitching, with talent that is almost beyond comprehension. I believe he's already earned his own room at the Hall of Fame. A mere plaque on the wall among so many others can't convey what Ohtani has achieved and what he means to the sport.
The problem is - can he keep his arm healthy? That is a big question. He puts so much stress on it. Probably it will injure again at some point. But, he could move into another position like outfield or first base or 3rd.
@@nofurtherwest3474It's true that injury is a real concern. But I want to see him pitch again at his best. It's fun to see him hit, but seeing him pitch is a sustained joy. He's the unique baseball treasure when doing both.
@@nofurtherwest3474 I don't think so. Ohtani knows his body better than anyone on the outside, and in his years with the original management they had him pitching less and having more breaks--never hitting in a game he pitched. But it may be true that sometimes the manager has to rein in Ohtani and give him a day or two off, because Ohtani does tend to push himself beyond what any other human would do.

This is no mere mortal at play, but rather the ineffable Shohei Ohtani, a being whose talents whisper of the mythic heroes of old, yet whose flesh and blood anchor him in the temporal realm of mortals.
