Some "sifu"s just need to make a living with whatever limited skills they have. Not their fault.
Students on the other hand... need to take what they learn and test their "theories" in a controlled/safe, yet somewhat realistic environment. A lot of people would find that their unique special "thing" they do in class only works on their classmates and no one else.

This is called 'theorizing'. Try fighting with an opponent with resistance and see if these work or don't work in real life.

May I ask you, does he have any record of him using these Wing Chun technique in action and defeated other stylists? Have any Wing Chun guys got these records too? No. Not even a single Wing Chun guy could use those Wing Chun stuff on the public. On our channel we have a playlist of Wing Chun vs Karate, it includes our fight and other mainstream Wing Chun guys' fights. Only our Wing Chun was effectively used and worked; the rest failed. You could show Gary Lam our video and ask him to spar with a Karate guy to see if he could do it like us.
