this guy understands wing chun, i look on youtube and everyone tries to be ip man. they dont understand martial arts. this guy understands that u just do, u dont think, or plan or get so technical, u just flow.
u have to think plan and be technical in beginning n intermediate levels. u r programming the concepts literally into your muscle memory/ brains reaction centers...then later they come out naturally with form variations to fit the situation, without thinking. if u train the right methods and dont rush the process, learn bad habits by sparring too soon
He's the best in the world ... I can say that n mean it cuz it's true . Gary lam trained him and he was his partner for a long time .. I study him every day faithfully and practice and teach his tenements..
He’s a top master.. he’s checking the hand and continuing in afterwards.. and he changes (shifts) on each interception (jeet) he’s the best.. I watch this everyday.. train it everyday
Sifu!!!! I finally found someone that teaches WC the way I do. Bless you Sifu Evangelos for telling people the truth about our fascinating martial arts system. Im gonna start a RUclips channel in the very near future, and continue telling the TRUTH about how we really apply WC physics against our opponents also. At first I thought I would receive a lot of resistance from our community. But I was going to do it anyway. And now that I see you showing it properly, so here I come. BTW, I've been watching you and Sifu Gary Lam for years and have always appreciated how Sifu Gary Lam demonstrates it. I am from Ip Man lineage through Sifu Leung Sheong, Sifu Ken Chung, Sifu Eddie Chong, and Sifu Michael Nedderman. I am Sifu Nedderman's 1st accomplished student and have been training for 20yrs. And this is how we were taught to apply our WC physics. AWESOME JOB SIFU!!! Keep up the good work brother...
WC is actually an awesome system, but it takes a long time to become good at it. its awesomeness comes from the sheer depth of the system itself. it takes years and years of solid training to have these kinds of skills. in the end you don't think about it because it all becomes second nature. he makes it look effortless because repetition is the mother of skill.
Yea you're kind of right, it takes years to truly understand and master wc, but I've been training a semi pro cage fighter for 18 months and he's gone from only winning 2 of his last 7 fights to winning the last 8 fights in a row. It's now what you train but how you train, I teach a few people who aren't really interested in the whole system just what they can use, so if it's just self defense you want then 18 months and you would be able to use wc in a confrontation, that's not saying you would defo win but you would be able to use it if you trained hard
Define Good? I get my people effective quickly, you do them a huge disservice if you do not. Tan, Pak, Kwan Sau, Gan Sau, Bong...coupled with Jin Choi and simple mechanics and footwork. Engrain this before all else and watch how quickly they pick it up. They have a lifetime to perfect....they need basic scrapping skills now, that is my focus! And it works. It's 2017..and the world is a damn vampire....get your people solid quickly!
M.D.B - you should focus more on teaching them the sil nim tao mindstate. Once they have it, even once they can tap into it, they will have a huge confidence boost as an ability to apply their force onto their opponent irrespective of what their opponent is doing, and with no way for their opponent to stop or counter it. Teach them only sil nim tao till they reach a level of relaxation and find their structure, then chum kiu to help them find their center points and how to turn using the entire spine/structure. Doesn't matter how many movements of Wing Chun you teach them, until they no longer use muscles to perform their movements they will be stomped in a street fight to anybody who knows how to throw combos quickly and powerfully.
Have you/can you do a video demonstrating how wing chun deals with other types of punches (not just straight punches/chain punches)? I am interested in seeing how these techniques are used against other forms of attacks. Rarely see hooks or uppercuts thrown which is likely to be encountered in the real world
MMA is not a 'form of combat'. MMA is taking any martial arts and combining them. Therefore it is personal to the user...it's not a set form. You could train in TKD, WC and Aikido, and still be a Mixed Martial Artist.
I've never trained in Wing Chun, but you seem very good at it. You should make a video showing sparring against an untrained person and/or against a martial artist from a different martial art. Please consider it, and if you do so, please notify me.
Trust me! There are a lot of martial art hacks out there. This guy is the real deal. Not saying he's ready for a professional mma fighter, but he definitely would have no problem defending himself against most any natural street attacker! Do not underestimate what you see here!
+Bryan Speer Why do you think a "professional MMA fighter" is the ultimate opponent? You've seen only a glimpse in this video. I think you HAVE underestimated what you've seen. No disrespect intended.
Very pretty techniques. I would love to learn how to defend against punches that are not as straight down the middle with the elbow down. I would guess that you'd have to pivot slightly or elbow spike the fist.
We have answers for those. 1. RIGHT HAND HAYMAKER “Go southpaw and reach across back hand to the outside eye. (OPEN CENTER OPEN SEASON 2. HIT RIGHT HANDED right away. This will guard the other side. This is good to use on a sloppy wide haymaker. Reachy punches? Easy. 1. CRASH THROUGH IT with VERTICAL FIST. Left slides inside a right straight. JKD 1. Stand orthodox. Use a back hand swipe past your center all the way to the left side. 2. PUNCH LEFT HANDED “It will slide right inside of his reachy right hand.
I'm extremely happy I stumbled across this video, The level of skill here is phenomenal .. I would love to see more so I'm subscribing... Thank you for sharing
This is the best you seen? I mean, this is GREAT. Don't get me wrong. But there is many videos on youtube just as good, couldn't say which one is the best.
This is really awesome stuff for when you're attacked by someone who stands one foot in front of you, feet planted, making slaps and arm punches! Awesomes! For more accomplished attackers, consider Muay Thai and a grappling art such as BJJ.
for everyone below. WC choose not to fight in MMA competitions because it would mean taking away the fundemental techniques: chop to the throat, straight kick to the knee, stomp kick to the knee, snap kick to the groin and so on and so forth. Plus people tend to do WC as a self defence, not to enter competitions. So there are no videos about it, doesn't mean anything. You're assuming that everything is on RUclips :P my style doesn't have a single clip on here, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
thats not what is happening. thats when he is making contact which throws off the momentum, throwing him off balance. it is almost impossible to continue puching with any kind of force when you are off balance. if you have ever had someone push your forearm and redirect it mid punch you will know what i am talking about.
Hey guys, Please read skysiix comments below, he gets it! When we get past style and recognize that each has its good and bad, which can be relative to the individual, then we can use what is useful and discard what is not. If you fight mike tyson in a small bathroom stall,do u contemplate what style to use, or do u punch, kick, shake, bite, whatever works man! Train in all ranges, kicking, punching, trapping, and ground, surely you will then be well rounded. What makes a fighter good? Being smart!
There are defenses against both kicks and grapples. I'm pretty new to WC, so I can't explain against grapples, but I can explain against leg kicks. We stay on the back leg and keep very little weight on the front leg. One, it makes sweeping that leg ineffective. Two, it lets us access that leg much faster to throw a kick or a block. We aim to kick for the knee. It's a weak joint, easy to track because it's the slow part of the kick, and really doesn't travel very far through different kicks.
love to see a boxer go up against a senior sifu where do you think boxing came from and like bruce lee who studied under the late yip man rip all styles are styles its the implimentation of practice that makes the difference
Sifu E. is a badass lol. I laughed so hard when he was like "Please no, I have a family" LOL. I'm still laughing. He reminds me alot of my first Si-Fu. He always taught us to keep our hands up and say things like "I don't want to fight" meanwhile blitzing the guy lol. Please post more!!! I'm gonna subscribe, thank you very much for the video, i've seen all this particular material before... but I want to see what else this guy does! All the best! Jeff
3:00 jesus ive never seen that. did he just knot up his arms? that action was so fluid and smooth, and opened up his left hand to strike anywhere, anyway... gotta remember that
@sloppymantis as you can see the guy is only using straight punch.. what if he uses uppercut, left hook, plus side step combination, would he able to block it? im just curious.. oh and boxer does a lot of body movement like waving and throw punches in different angles..
nice style,he shows how it is the ultimate unarmed discipline,at high skill levels it begans to look the defender is in away the puppetmaster and controls the attackers every move.its like liquid clockwork
i get ur point mate.. i will see how it goes when the time is there.. first i need to get good at using wing chun... im just addicted to it u know.. i dont have that with other styles.. in the end i might end up training other stuff in mma but i am still confident that wing chun alone will be a great thing for me.. Wong Shun Leung was undefeated and i am training his wing chun... so im pretty confident the style is effective even in the ring.. u just have to train right...
but i do get ur point and i do think i will also do some training aside from the sparring with mma people.. becuz like u said... should it happen.. its always good to have some knowledge
Sifu Evangelos, you seem very skilled. I only wonder why there are no guys with your skill participating in fights.. would like to see your skill in competition.. but, is it possible that skilled wingtsun practitioners dont participate in competitive fights because they are all bound to rules like "dont break the knee or dont hit the throat"? I have had so many people ask me why no1 uses wingtsun in K1 or UFC.. i think its because of limitations and rules.. while wingtsun has none.. am I right?
yea thats exactly what I had been guessing I also dont understand why some people say that wingchun is "crap" because wingchun fighters dont protect their heads and that they would get knocked out fast in a real fight... (they say so because wingchun fighters dont hold their hands on head level..) what do u think about that? thanks for your answer anyway!
what if your opponenet is a boxer would wing chun work? as i can see your opponent is also wing chun.. i wanna see if this could also work in other martial arts
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Also I love that dude in the background with the greaser hair cut. . he looks like hes about ready to take his Best Gal to the Malt shop in his Hot rod :)
@adamchou You're right. Those deflections will not be used for hooks/crosses. From what I've learned so far, one will use the bottom or top of your forearm to intercept a hook at the inside of your opponents elbow. Or intercept more towards the shoulder, depending on the distance. However, the preference is usually to let the strike pass in order to obtain a better angle/position.
As long as you have a willing participant to throw slow motion attacks at you, you will look amazing. When you fight a true fighter, you are going to have a rude awakening.
I do agree that the curriculum is too rigid. I don't agree that half only know how to do chi sau..At the school where I live, you don't get to do chi sau if you can't "break the guard", as we call it. And yes, wing chun isn't the only style that uses a sticky hand type thing, my style uses something very similar. As to that, I do Asakai Martial Arts. We have a FaceBook, but we're not on RUclips...yet. Still trying to convince my sensei that it's a good thing lol.
1) You are right, it's not choreographed in the strict sense. What I actually said is "there is choreography".In the sense that the rules it has restrict free responses form both sides, which means you know the frame of one's attack pretty well, especially if youpracticed with him years.By saying "there is choreography" I mean it's not a dowhat everyou want free "dance".2)a beginner wil fail in the game of chi sao due to inexperience(yes), but intimidation can effect him&a more experienced person,
Back to the subject, if I have proper structure yes I agree, but if my arm is already collapsed into my body, I don't have proper structure, and I would need a great deal of strength to overcome a strong punch that was performed correctly.
Impressive Interesting Effective and an extraordinary Sifu..take him slef not so serious but try to Explain..their are many Sifu to Egocentric ! i like evangelos..he teaches in a nice way
Ip sifu always told that the best way to practice wing chun is to adapt the techniques and the strategies to the opponent's style and fighting. that's how the idea for applied wing chun came with Duncan Leung sifu.
But basically you are right. Every System has own waknesses.. To "collect" ervery good part of different styles and forget the weak parts of them is my way to handle it. of course i cant say i am a good boxer or i am a good jiuka but in the end i can say "i am a good fighter" thats all what is important. greets :)
Real or not , that can be determined in a fight. But still , i would also like to watch a video of two professional using their arts , sadly there aren't many of those on youtube :(
Problem is he's demonstrating on guy whose an extreme amateur. Straight line movement only and only got chain punch even for his entry. Do it against someone of equal skill, becomes wildly different, do it against a boxer and the technique becomes more rounded.
@Redping2020 could you beat this man in a fight? didn't think so. knowing how to fight plus the mentality attained through learning, puts him at an advantage.
dude I have been trying to find a WC student to have a challenge fight on here for months now, ive posted in several videos and pm'ed a shit ton of self proclaimed WC masters and practitioners, and so far the only thing I have gotten back is hate mail and death threats, Im respectful, just need someone in the texas area to have a BJJ vs WC challenge fight, the results will be posted online no matter the outcome of course, Ive been beat up in front of a crowd before, no shame,
he never do a dvd specifically for that (haha) but he do a lot of take down, like when the opponent lose balance. and there's basic counter in the form if we were caught from behind. there's a lot of 'what if' out there, wing chun is concept based, therefore we can adapt.
@vinni614 i myself do wing chun and BJJ for the ground , and i dont concider any art worthy to be used in a stand up fight , ecept ving tsun and BJJ for the ground. If you want i can give you a list of schools were you can drop in and pose a challenge.
that was amazing wing chun skills. looks like sifu evangelos has learned his skills well from sifu gary lam. because I saw clips of sifu gary lam do the exact same thing with his students. those hands move effortlessly and fluidly its awesome. this is top level wing chun.
As i stated above, this doesn't work at all. it is for demo purposes or just to train your arms to move faster. I have been studying wing chun so long and i have faced many real boxers... Try to do this to a boxer - you are destroyed. The simple reason is that in this, the other guy is feeding him with straight punches all the time plus he is not moving from the centre at all. As a result it is very easy to control his punches even if you keep a hand straight up to his nose:))))
Peter Panic So because he used these techniques against a novice, you automatically assume that they are all he can do, and that he has no ability at all to adjust his method depending on the opponent. I agree with you about boxing, boxers are probably the most difficult opponent for WC.
Peter Panic By studying do u mean watching random WC videos on the internet? Or have u actually been training and practicing Wing Chun for many years under proper tutelage? I can study boxing and muay thai BJJ and know all of their techniques and philosophy but I still won't be able to throw a good hook punch or an uppercut or know how to properly defend myself if I don't actually properly study it by learning from a master and practicing it for years. Also just because u lost matches to a boxer using Wc doesn't mean teh art is useless, it could be you who lacks skill to properly use the system.
I sort of agree. I can't believe that a person throwing a hard punch with elbow in can be stopped by someone of equal size that has a collapsed arm. I wish the video had equal opponents.
I'd like to know his Sifu's name or his lineage because in some lineages SLT is all three open hand forms of WSL and Ip Man Lineages packed into one form! I heard that GM Yip learned the 61/2 point pole from another system because it is not exclusive to wing chun, but I'm not sure. You know Sifu Sergio and all the different lineages he sees is cool and teaches, I used to think he wasn't legit but he runs a tough program 24 hr Black Sash test! Any way peace
Hello fans, i watched video wc very well, the suifu one hand can control left and right side to kept central line very nice. the suifu action is natural direct used pon, tan sau. the wing chun is very good. 21/06/2012
the people who can't generate power are generally those that don't understand their "power from relaxing" thing. And the wing chun punch doesn't generate any power if the person isn't relaxed, but when they do get it, it's quite impressive :P but yes, alot of people don't know how to generate power, can't argue with that.
How about the other guy actually try hitting him in the face rather than throwing his own punch offline at an angle so his sifu doesn't even need to block. I love the look of wing chun but honestly, unless they start to practice it against hooks, proper jabs and crosses with pressure coming forward, it will never be more than a cool show.
Of course the technical perfection would break down completely in real time if he were blocking every punch like swatting flies, but that's not what he was showing. He's not "blocking" every punch. In the "3 doors" demo he's leaving the hand in the path of the attack and the shape he uses is dictated by the continued pressure of the opponent as they come in and the range changes. Essentially, the opponent is creating the taan, ding, and wu-sau for him.
this guy understands wing chun, i look on youtube and everyone tries to be ip man. they dont understand martial arts. this guy understands that u just do, u dont think, or plan or get so technical, u just flow.
u have to think plan and be technical in beginning n intermediate levels. u r programming the concepts literally into your muscle memory/ brains reaction centers...then later they come out naturally with form variations to fit the situation, without thinking. if u train the right methods and dont rush the process, learn bad habits by sparring too soon

That’s the real wing chun

It’s an honor and a privilege to check in here every so often to brush up on my 18 hand..
He is so skilful! I've seen videos of him training with Gary Lam, a well known wing chun instructor who is from Hong Kong.

Attack and defense in one motion. Nice!
Distance control the most important factor in a fight.
Awesome video
great technique, all respects! makes me never leave the gym, so inspired.
I'm extremely happy I stumbled across this video, The level of skill here is phenomenal .. I would love to see more so I'm subscribing... Thank you for sharing
Sifu Evangelos, can you do any videos for fighting against western boxer. Maybe jab, cross, hook defense. That would be great.
Neil M why not?
Neil M you can ask sifu george anagnostakos... idk why Greece has such great wc guys
This is the best you seen? I mean, this is GREAT. Don't get me wrong. But there is many videos on youtube just as good, couldn't say which one is the best.
That is simply beautiful. Absolutely top notch. Thanks for the video. It's a privilege to see this.

Very nice Sifu Evangelos some real wing chun flow and mechanics that most others do not show on videos or understand.
this guy is so cool - watched this clip tons of times and i love the bit at the end "lets go drink coffee" - brilliant hehehe
Excellent skill. All the best from Wing Chun in Chicago. -Dominick Izzo
Very nice. I guess I have to get my kid into this art. He is12 hope it's not too late.

beautiful flowing moves, so true about hitting three times rather than just one
I love Wing Chun, Learn - live - practice - love.
i would love to be this mans pupil he has a great demeanour i bet hes a great teacher
finally i found a real fighter
Yes, this man is a true warrior. You can be sure is critics have never won a fight.
@zedsj Hi I've just read your comments and totally agree with them. May i ask who you think the 3 are?
Q: " Wing Chun is fun huh ? "
Me: " More than Anything ! "
Very nice. Skill in the foreground, Elvis in the background.

i really wish i had a wing chun trainee im really in love with the style

well done !!! they are both great teachers !!
Holy crap he's fast, amazing how he uses chi Sao to read his sparring partner. That right there is a true master of wing chun.
Sifu u are great give more tip to us
love gary lam and evangelos..theyre both awesome..

Nice presentation..! And how about that Italian food and Italian coffee..sounds good after a good workout..
so honoured that i was trained by Sifu Evangelos and instructor Epaminontas.....
what organization r u from and who is ur sifu?? has he perhaps trained with Philip bayer? or wong shun leung?
lol , here and here and here , here, here, here , very nice 10
I want to see if this skill works in real fight
i think sifu gary lam made a dvd about kicks. cheers
great stuff. nice sensitivity and structure.
yea thats exactly what I had been guessing
I also dont understand why some people say that wingchun is "crap" because wingchun fighters dont protect their heads and that they would get knocked out fast in a real fight... (they say so because wingchun fighters dont hold their hands on head level..)
what do u think about that?
thanks for your answer anyway!

Great video! Thanks for sharing. Also I love that dude in the background with the greaser hair cut. . he looks like hes about ready to take his Best Gal to the Malt shop in his Hot rod :)
Thanks Joe! Come around and i spend a Beer;)
This is not only a Nice Guy .....but a Great Nice Guy....
Good. Now please show us how does that work against a boxer.
Thank you
@adamchou You're right.
Best Wing Chun I've seen.
I learned so much from this video..
Impressive Interesting Effective and an extraordinary Sifu..take him slef not so serious but try to Explain..their are many Sifu to Egocentric ! i like evangelos..he teaches in a nice way
very good~~~~~!! X1000
You learn that martial arts have learned a deep level ~~
I'm a fan ... once for all !
Ip sifu always told that the best way to practice wing chun is to adapt the techniques and the strategies to the opponent's style and fighting. that's how the idea for applied wing chun came with Duncan Leung sifu.
But basically you are right. Every System has own waknesses.. To "collect" ervery good part of different styles and forget the weak parts of them is my way to handle it. of course i cant say i am a good boxer or i am a good jiuka but in the end i can say "i am a good fighter" thats all what is important. greets :)
I watch u everyday,, n train it..
Real or not , that can be determined in a fight.
But still , i would also like to watch a video of two professional using their arts , sadly there aren't many of those on youtube :(
Nice demonstration, very well-trained and skillful, 10/10~!
Problem is he's demonstrating on guy whose an extreme amateur. Straight line movement only and only got chain punch even for his entry. Do it against someone of equal skill, becomes wildly different, do it against a boxer and the technique becomes more rounded.
By your stupid arguments what are you trying to prove, that your stupidity is invincible against everything in the World ?
Nice moves I like it good job
@Redping2020 could you beat this man in a fight? didn't think so. knowing how to fight plus the mentality attained through learning, puts him at an advantage.
How many years did u study by gary lam?
dude I have been trying to find a WC student to have a challenge fight on here for months now, ive posted in several videos and pm'ed a shit ton of self proclaimed WC masters and practitioners, and so far the only thing I have gotten back is hate mail and death threats, Im respectful, just need someone in the texas area to have a BJJ vs WC challenge fight, the results will be posted online no matter the outcome of course, Ive been beat up in front of a crowd before, no shame,
he never do a dvd specifically for that (haha) but he do a lot of take down, like when the opponent lose balance. and there's basic counter in the form if we were caught from behind. there's a lot of 'what if' out there, wing chun is concept based, therefore we can adapt.
Nice. would very much enjoy some chi sau with you sifu.
Agreed. I see a lot of Sifu Gary Lam in his movements. Very impressive. Thank you for sharing.
What do I do if my opponent doesn't stop his fist 6 inches from my head and wait for me to bat it aside?
I love the look of wing chun but honestly, unless they start to practice it against hooks, proper jabs and crosses with pressure coming forward, it will never be more than a cool show.
perfect technique, demonstrate at high speed while without hurting the other one, that is difficult
Guess I didn't word my message very well. Oh well. Continue to believe and do what you want. I'll leave you to it.
DUDE IS MISSING A HAND AND STILL ROCKING IT!!! That is fliping AWESOME!!! Now thats some skill lol!!!
thank you very much for this film it actually is really helpfull!
Essentially, the opponent is creating the taan, ding, and wu-sau for him.
excellent stuff guys!
