First of all I appreciate all the work you have done for the IMAT and Medicine in Italy in depth! It is currently helping me to learn more and decide which university is right for me to study medicine. I’m a current UK resident and have little to no desire to study or live in this country anymore after 11 years now
I do have to say that even when studying an English medicine program, 6 years is MORE THAN enough to learn Italian to a proficient and even to an academic level. My timeline for learning Italian is this:
I say by the end of first year, you should have a “broken” and basic level of speaking and understanding Italian where you sometimes use English to help you get your point across more clearly.
By the end of second year, you should be at a level where you can easily interact with the locals, restaurants, going out etc. and have minimal issues understanding the language (barring different dialects and local phrasing etc) and speaking a lightly “broken” level of Italian where you don’t need the assistance of the English language to get you by 9/10 interactions.
By the end of third year and onward you should be ~ 75-80% fluent in the language and no need for the use of English in any cases. From there onward you can improve your Italian to be at an academic level by end of your 6-year Medicine program
I’m always flabbergasted when people who have lived in another country for more than a year fail to grasp the language even at a basic speaking and understanding level. It all comes down to the level of commitment and willingness you put into learning the language. In my opinion, the basic amount of respect to show to any country you live is to attempt and make the effort to learn their language
Thank you once again for your great work!

@@KK-tw8hbthats why you don’t always listen to others. You need to do your own research, weigh up the pros and cons in the present and 10-14 years from now, and be honest with yourself and see if you are happy with the pros and cons and to make the sacrifice for the better future and that should be enough to make a solid decision

After you have a medical degree, you apply for training in the same way you apply as a job. You need to complete exams, rotations, interviews etc. to try and get a job. If you pass everything you can work as a doctor there and do more training which is paid.
