This was a real young woman, who felt everything any young teen feels, and no, she wasn't Miss Nobody, but that's how she probably felt. The saddest part is she wasn't allowed to grow up and find that out. For the detective to say the 3 were in on it together is a disgrace to her memory, Allison was a victim too, of an adult predator, and Karen died protecting her friend. 🌹🙏
I read about this in 1990 in the Sunday Times magazine. As a parent I cannot comprehend not being in contact with my children. This is what sticks out for me.
Professor David Wilson commented on how the victims of murders are almost always the same. From groups that have been pushed to the edge of society. Kids who came from very dysfunctional families and have ended up on the street, prostitutes, older people and gay men.
It’s so sad unfortunately there’s lots of young people like this, young girls and young boys. But there are also lots of evil predators looking out for these vulnerable kids also.
It's so sad when such things happen, even worse back then as CCTV wasn't really a big thing everywhere, as it is today, R.I.P to all those gone before their times, may their souls rest in eternal perfect peace......🙏🙏🙏
@leftylucy2263 Doesn't CCTV give a clear identification of the perpetrator/s, and used in a court of law to successfully convict an offender, during a trial...
Poor girl and I hope her family are ok and dealing with things as well as they can. There are some vile people around and it is awful that she should have been used and discarded like this. I notice that her sister has posted here, and she should be rightfully upset with the way they were treated by the social services at the time. I am glad that the police took the time to solve the case.
Karen is my mums cousin, it’s a pretty tight knit family and although it’s very sad, people have fond memories of her which I’m sure have helped over the years. Still very sad x
Nothing changed there then with two tier justice. He admitted to prostituting/trafficking and exploitation of numerous under age girls for sex (several to this guy the murderer including this vulnerable girl from a childrens home she'd been missing from and living somewhere for 4 months). He claims he made 'a lot of money' from it. He takes part in a murder in some way or at the very least the burying of her body. He then lies about to police until they get the truth out of him. And he gets what, 3 years?!! Are you kidding? He should be doing 15 to 20. This is how I would pass sentence down on Ali as a judge if he was before me in my court: Prostituting underage girls for illict earnings: 5 years. Manslaughter for being party to a murder: 15 years. Unlawful burial of a body: 10 years. Lying to police and obstructing justice: 2 years. Total sentence: 32 years. Sentencing Mitigation: 10 years allowed for finally coming forward and making a statement implicating the murderer. Recommendation to serve at least 15-20 years before parole considered unless any prior criminal convictions or similar charges, in which case to serve full term, 22 years.
Sadly, vulnerable kids who've come from chaotic families and have no emotional roots are such easy targets. Jason swift, who was also the subject of a crimewatch special, was from a very similar background.
I don't see why Alison got off scot free. She helped every bit as much just by keeping her mouth shut. At least Ali spoke to the police in the end when prompted and without his contribution none of this would have been solved. Viking society drew a distinction between murder - which could be atoned for and secret murder which was much more serious. I think they had a point.
I assume that was the deal she got from the police in exchange for testifying and anonymity. Things like that happen in a lot of these cases where those who had minor parts get off so those who were most responsible get punished.
@@slinkiegirl2001 From what I’ve read she was terrified of Charlton who threatened to kill her if she went to the police. She didn’t come forward as a witness because by 1989 she’d turned her life around and was married but had never told her family about what had happened to her in care.
Karen's life and fate was virtually identical to Jason Swift (who was also featured in a Crimewatch soecial, murdered by the Sidney Cooke gang). From chaotic families, in and out of care homes, ending up on the street and in the hands of violent sexual predators.
Alan Charlton is still in prison, 30 plus years, because he maintains that he had nothing to do with the murder. He could have been released years ago if only he'd admit to something he hadn't done. It makes you wonder how accurate this documentary is

Hi. Karen was my half sister. We had different fathers. I only knew her briefly when she came to stay with us in about 1980, shortly before all this happened. I have very few memories of her because I was only 5 at the time. I remember the day she ran away from us, because my mum was trying to stop her at the bus stop up the road. I hate that they called her little miss nobody because mum searched for her for years after, even up until the time her body was found. Did you know her well?

Exactly
so sad but true
A troubled, vulnerable young girl taken advantage of by grown men then killed and disposed of like she was nothing,,.. absolutely vile
So often the case, sadly. As professor David Wilson said, Murder victims are almost always from groups where the world has stopped caring about them.

Makes you wonder how many other bodies over the years haven't been discovered
Not that many probably as a body is hard to move which is one reason why murderers usually dispose of them in their own garden/property or nearby
More ate hidden than found. 'Missing person' stats prove that.
