My personal problem with the maps is that they’ve greatly increased the size of each character but left the maps the exact same which just makes the maps feel a lot smaller in some cases.
I honestly don't have a problem with more polarizing stage layouts. Different stages should change how you play to keep the gameplay loop fresh and interesting.
Dexters 2 is clearly based on Smash’s Warioware complete with the same extremely small blast zones which is exactly why it was removed from competitive early on. Multiversus should either widen the stage and it’s blast zones or remove it from ranked. Same goes for Cromulons top blast zone
Dexter lab is definitely too small for doubles. The stage itself is about the size of batmans but batmans blast zones sre further and the cars on the side help keep you alive and give you somewhere to run. Should switch it out for game of thrones stage.
The more I think about it, the more I realize, the game's stages are just really good casually, because I'm thinking about how much I love them, and I love how unique they are, instead of something like brawlhalla, where most of the 1V1 and 2v2 maps are the same map with slight differences, there's 7 two plats in that game, and I hate it, so Multiversus having these unique layouts and actual gimmicks (brawlhalla stages had no gimicks until the recent crumbling chasam, and the new starwars maps, one of which is only made for 5+ players) instead of 3 battlefields and 4 FDs is really nice to me.
Yeah, but that's the thing, they're fun to run around on in normal pvp or pve, but in ranked when you're trying to go up just to silver or gold V, it can be annoying when you lose to the stage rather than your opponent. I've legitimately had a ball for the last couple months exploring all the stages, and even laughed my ass off when I get stuck on a part of the stage or died in a ridiculous way because of a stage gimic. But since ranked requires a consistent win streak just to get to the base reward, I've kinda stopped having fun with it. Every loss that doesn't feel like my fault makes regression 100% worse.
In beta ranked actually was RP-based and i remember people hating it, because if you were very good, you were matched against free opponents a lot at first and if you weren't very good, you just couldn't win at all, so i agree that rank is dependent on play time rather than skill level, but isn't that true for most modern games? Current user experience is superior, because the majority of people like to be matched against someone with close to equal skill level. It's worse only if you want to show off. I personally avoid ranked altogether, because it forces you to play one character. I don't think WB even wants this game to be played competitively, since they still refuse to give you access to all the characters in local play. I think it's safe to assume it won't be added before this game is innevitably shut down.
I’ve felt this way for a long time, on twitter I think they’re changing some of the game speed with their hints but some stages being massive, specifically in 1’s makes some playstyles super annoying and stages like dexters lab suffers from a problem of the upward blast zone being so high up can limit kill confirms and options
I kinda like almost all of multiversus' stages. The only stage in the game I don't like is dexter's lab 2. I actually like dexter's lab 1 more, but it feels like I never get it online anymore.
I think it would be cool if, if you lost, you could choose the scenario, and the first ranked scenario would be something completely neutral and I liked Mojo's attacks, it was something very dynamic for the battles I think it should be kept or they should remove this stage if Mojo is not going to be of any use 🤷🏻♂️
Knew the melee comparison was going to come up. I personally dont think having boring repeating maps like melee does is any good. Each of the new maps even in ranked isn't a problem in my opinion. The other ranked problems are actually a problem, but these stage complaints basically come across as just wanting to play melee. Long as we dont get gigantic maps like some of the SSB games it should be pretty good.
Dexter's lab is just way too small for a competitive 2v2 match. They need to widen it and make the side blast zones bigger. Cromulons is fine in my opinion, I think stages should be big for 2v2 and not compact I just wish they made the bottom blast zone bigger. I believe that every 2v2 stage should be about the size of the nighttime version of treehouse because it gives plenty of room, makes it difficult to ring someone out with cheese and forces people to really use their recovery moves to get back on stage.
Speaking of Dexter's Lab When the Hell are we getting Dexter himself in the game That plus I still want to see DeeDee Mandark Monkey From Dial M For Monkey And The Justice Friends (Major Glory, Valhallen, Krunk)
As a Jason main this confuses me. The Dexter map breaks all my combos, I can get you on an upper platform if you're slow, but those attacks also slow me down. If you try and stick to the bottom stage and shoot full charges under the platform you'll drive us up, our attacks can't hit under the platform we're on so we have to try and get off the platform and hit you with a down special, but the game likes to punish is with prone periods after dodge so we'll aim for the center of the map, which gives you plenty of time to break our momentum or dodge, if you're talking about the mist walk just lure us to the top platform then jump down and set a trap, we catch on platforms. But yeah, Jack mains are dicks on ghat map, they tend to resort to edge guarding like mad there
@@madestmadhatter idk, Jason can smack away all Morty's grenades He breaks them with his dash. His machete has more than enough reach to hit Morty without Morty doing any melee back. Add this to a small map like Dexter or Batcave and the occasional armor, Jason is not easy to stop. The platforms make quick teleporting hard for Morty, and you really have to plan out any grenade because they don't really go through platforms. Since there's not much room to avoid Jason it's kind of tough. If it helps for context, I don't use mudwall to attack, I actually bother to fight. So only time I'm easily taking down Jason is they aren't good so they only use him for his damage, or if I spam mud wall. Which doesn't help much on small maps anyways since they can just dodge and whiff punish.
For better competitive stages they could take notes from rivals of aether. Every stage in that game has a casual and competitive version. Casual can go all out with goofy layouts and various hazards and competitive adjusts the stages to be more fair to everyone. There's still good variety in it's competitive stages with how they play around with size and layout of the main stage, number of platforms and their positions, blast zone size, etc. so every competitive stage still looks and feels unique. some stages in multiversus would be solid competitive maps with small adjustments. townsville already gets rid of mojos hazards and just makes him a normal platform that swaps positions every so often but the main stage is still way too wide. Competitive Batcave could make the main stage wider and turn the cars into 2 normal platforms above the stage. Dexter's 2 just needs to be a little bigger overall. GOT and Scooby Doo stages i got nothing that shit just isn't gonna work in ranked without a full on redesign.
I think there is a great video from Mock Rock talking about how rivals aether stage are great but also from a competitive perspective they are actually rather tame. And I think pushing competive players to test slightly off the wall stages is good for the game. I think melee stage list stands out so much because its stages hazards are rather dynamic. Yoshi’s story in particularly
The dumbest part about the court is that whenever hazards off, it only gets rid of the basketball and the powerups, so not even the hoops are turned off
Multiversus is a very cool concept that was executed poorly. I thoroughly enjoy the game too and I wanna see it do well but it seems impossible at this point.
Don’t forget the samurai jack players that like to dodge and hit the one move dash move that knocks u out of the side of the map 🗺️ 🙄 and keep spamming the dash attack on ranked
@@GayLizard it actually is if you keep coming across the same people doing it ,you obviously haven’t come across two of them in one game doing the same spam move 😒 😒
Using that same move in a row when shaggy or my main Velma ca t even do a powerful move like that over again it takes 10 seconds to charge one of shaggy powerful moves
Secondary platforms should be illegal on ranked! They freaking snag you, quin even has a down projectile, but Fins run under the platform if you shot at him and you have to sacrifice so much altitude to just get in range that you have to commit to landing! Seriously more than anything I hate Dexter's Jason's side speacil gets stuck on them and then you suffer a delay penalty if you don't/can't chain it to something new, so people can catch you prone upbthere because you didn't move from where you were, even if you were off the platform when you turned, you just get sucked to the ground. I'm good with gold rank basically being bronze, if you play enough to rank you get the base prize. If they try and make ranked more competitive based on the feedback they've been getting, I hope they lock hire ranks to increased resources and badges for bragging rights, and don't make cooler more impossible to achieve skins for top ranks
Been saying since day 1 the biggest fix this game could use that would solve 90% of the problem characters nonsense is expand the walls and ceiling thats it, simple enough pfg. Wanna make the game perfect? Make it so you can't be KO till 70 to force these spammy cheap players to actually fight rather then spam that 1 combo they learnt on YT to KO you b4 doing any damage
The maps on ranked should have all platforms removed. It should be completely skilled based. As for maps that do have platforms - PFG needs to make down specials/attacks go through platforms. Often when in the air, instead of down specialing into my opponent and hitting them, you just land on the platforms above them. They need to make these down attacks go through the platforms, so our attacks can land. Instead of landing on the platform (and then the opponent just hits you from below the platform upon your character landing)...make it so out attacks go through the platforms, so the attack would've landed.
Can I just say, I f*cking hate the Cromulons stage, 1v1 or 2v2 because without the speakers the stage is so small and the side blast zones are too far and the cieling is too low. I hate this stage with a f*cking passion
You know I think one of the biggest reasons is because they enlarged the character models and slowed down the game which made the game feel this wacky all I know is I never got 0 to death by a Finn in beta and it would’ve been very hard with how small the characters were in relation to the maps
Feel like they just need increase the space for the danger zone from the stage for most maps and they should make the stage float above the bottom danger zone so it doesn’t take only two down tilts/ dair moves to kill when your hanging on the wall
Why i personally hate TOWNSVILLE: to be dead honest, i love the idea of a platform that shifts around, the dialogue from mojo. And the stage slowly collapsing overtime Downsides? Mojo's weapons. The laser essentially just either puts the match into a dead standstill or forces a stupid situation of people shoving each other into it The raindog projectiles are annoying with how much damage it racks up and basically turns it into a game of chicken if you get hit with the effect And bombs would he cool, if they remained as just items and explosions don't happen with untouched bombs Also the stage destruction is cool, however if it's fully destroyed it's a small ass platform with no escape I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do any game testing on that stage
I honestly like all the stages gimics, I just wish I could get players to help me damage Mojo, or just stay out of my way while I do, since collateral damage is an issue.
