I purchased a Swytch e-bike kit. I had to send for the missing charger dongle. I finally got it only to find that I'm now missing the throttle part. And now I see you got 4 or 5 battery covers. I received none. I'm glad to see that not everyone is have issues getting to finally ride their e-bike.

Don’t leave parallel-connected batteries connected permanently. Inevitably you get a weak cell, which causes the strong battery to discharge itself into the weak one. The way to get around this i s to introduce a charge-bus, and discharge bus, and isolate each battery between a pair of diodes, for each one. I use this technique in my yacht, with 8 12-volt, lead-acid, batteries. Don’t forget to use Schottky Diodes, since there’s a potential 1.2 v drop across each diode, under high-current conditions. Cheers, Robin.

I built a class 4 ebike about 8 months ago. That means I have no PAS system. I do 30mph with ease. I can go well over 30 under the right conditions. Keep in mind, just because I can go that fast doesn’t mean I always do. I have and do push the limits of my bike often, that does mean I take mountain gravel roads and trails that dirt bikes are on. I also have had multiple problems come up and had to learn a ton about every component involved. Ive had to find answers to problems even the experts that sell and work on the expensive ebikes don’t know the answer to. I’ve had to learn the hard way, many times those same people have been completely wrong. It seems they always advise the most expensive way to find and fix the problem first, even if they aren’t going to be making any money out of it. At this point the only original parts from when i began this journey are my battery and my motor. I began watching this video to see if there was one component missed, and there is. Not long into the video you see him put the disk break directly onto the motor hub. I did the same as it seems no one has taken into consideration one result of this. When you’re going down a steep hill or slowing down from higher speeds that disk break is going to get hot. Extremely hot. In turn that disk break is going to make your motor hub hot too. And as you work the motor going up it stays hot and back and fourth. This heat, I now believe can travel from that disk break, make the motor hotter than it would be, and follow the power lines, all of them, back to the controller, and even into the throttle. There is a plastic connector for the 5/6 wire connection of the hall connection and such. I’ve melted that twice. I had melted it the first time and had a ebike shop fix it for me. They told me I had been taxing the battery too much going up hill. Unknown to me they replaced it with the same part than wrapped it in a bike inner tube and made it look like it had been heat shrunken. I was pretty mad when it melted again. There’s more to that but I digress. I fixed that by hard wiring that connection and insulating it. No plastic to melt. I rode very hard on some mountain passes yesterday. My throttle went out for the second time, but I wasn’t aware of it until this morning. I took both thumb throttles apart. The wires were broken in the same spot in both. Either the wires are arcing. Or my theory about heat building up through the wires as a result of the disk break getting hot. Or. As a 3rd very real possibility, the parts are just made cheep. I did some research and found that the throttle I payed $37 for 2 times. Is sold on the web for $7. Just sold under a different name. I have what that store called a beefier throttle now, and my bike is running, they gave me this throttle for free. I’m not hopeful it will last and plan to replace it. My plan is to go to a scooter or motorcycle shop and find a heat gasket to put in between the motor and the disk break. No idea if it will help. But I hope so. Let me know what you think or if you have any ideas. Thanks in advance. 26” 1000w 48a rear hub motor
I've been watching your channel over a year, finally bought 2 of your books and think the Swytch kit might be a good starter kit while building a 750 mid drive. Glad you're back on it.
A trick I learnt to get the tyre back on without levers is once you can get no further with your fingers, go back to the start and push the tyre down into the rim. You should then be able to get a bit more of your tyre over the rim. Repeat a few more times and it will just pop in.
Jeff J the centrelock rotor is a shimano patent and requires a splined centrelock compatible hub to reuse it. He had to buy a new rotor as the motor hub utilises the standard 6 bolt rotor fixing method on the hub flange boss. What concerned me most were the tight clearances on the fork and the need for spacing shims to pack it out. Something was not ISO standard here and i suspect it was the suspension fork on the donor bike. It would have been less of problem with a rigid road fork as the fork blades would have been narrower.
Thanks for using an unusual/odd bike . I'd read about fit issues on the Swytch 1.0, but you seem to have overcome these issues on your non-standard bike quite easily. very helpful! mazel tov on the move!
I put an early canbus BionX back wheel on a Hasa mountain bike. Motor controller and torque sensing was built into the 250W hub, so as soon as you applied force to the pedals the motor gave the required response. I now have a new Hasa mountain bike with a Tong Sheng DZ2 250W crank motor with controller and torque sensor built in. It took some filing to get the TSDZ2 to fit the Hasa frame, but it's a great bike. You don't get regeneration with a crank motor, but it's more efficient to coast as fast as possible down hills, but I do miss saving my disk pads and charging my battery when braking. Regeneration is also good for very steep descents on tarmac.
Pneumonia is a tough one to get over. Glad you are getting back into the groove. Keep up the good work, your videos are always informative and never seem biased which is rare. Your not a bad author either, got one of your books. Although I still almost burnt my house down spot welding a cell. Lesson learned 😀
Question -- I'm 6ft and weighing about 230 lbs. I'm thinking of getting into e-biking. I work in a hospital and I commute daily almost about 7-8 miles each way. What power motor do you think would suit me the best?
You did choose wrost bicycle for this installation but that is awesome because your video will cover every possible fine tuning one need to do to install this kit.
I am in the process of watching your video here, and I wanted to tell you thank you for your video. Honestly, you are very good at offering a low stress learning video. I definitely rate you at a 10. You should do this for a living! lol.. Just wanted to give you a "attaboy!" Thx again, Janine Davis

I have located the website of the SWYTCH company. I believe you mentioned that the kit you used was a 250w. Do you know if they come in higher wattage, like 1000w or even higher. I really like what I see with this conversion company. If you continue your affiliation with them I hope you will show more conversions in the future.
YES ! i have been waiting soooo long for an update on you and the Honda electric motor project.. that project is so cool :) i really look forward to see the next video :)
The disc looks like it’s a center lock. You should be able to remove it with a cassette removal tool, but that doesn’t help if the new wheel isn’t also a center lock style to mount it.
Would you suggest the disc brakes / hydraulic disc brakes, over the traditional rim pad brakes? Is the motor that strong that a bike needs the disc brakes? Also, how far can you go on a charge if you're biking on a flat away
The disc is a center lock, you would need a Shimano BB tool to remove it (Some use cassette tool instead would have splines on the inside rather than outside) The silver bit that says Shimano on it is essentially a nut holding it on The rivets attach the disc to the holder, Can make it lighter and quieter. Not that there is anything wrong with 6 bolt but tend to find it on slightly older or budget bikes
Hi, have you seen any similar kits for wheelchairs? I do like the simplicity of this, and if only there would be a solution like this for wheelchairs that wont brake the bank... I am using an older system from yamaha but parts are expensive and very hard to find.
An easy way to get the grip off is to put rubbing alcohol underneath the edge of the grip. The alcohol will suck into the space (capillary action) and allow the grip to slide off.
Look, I have the Aston Rider mid-engine and I've been using it quite well. I have changed it from my folding 16 wheel to 26 mtb and now into a 24. My husband changes the kit in a few moments by tightening one screw/nut, everything is connected and the screen has a cell phone charger
9:45 Front derailleur height had me having HUGE issues to use all three the front gears. Too high, and it didn't shift properly, too low, and it rubbed. Deraileur hight is a MAYOR issue.
My Trek 4500 is also very sensitive to derailleur height. Tolerance range is only about +/- 1mm for perfect and reliable shifting. This appears to be a show stopper unless I can get this fully researched or mocked up before I purchase.
You didn’t mention how the bike felt coming off the power and braking....you hadn’t fitted the brake sensors. The kit looks interesting but as others have mentioned on here, just what is the price? Swytch seem to want me to preorder and get a 50% discount for doing so, which is great but there’s no way I’m committing myself to an unknown cost!
Yup, and a year later the website still says the same, and still no clue of the price, however I seen this same kit on Fully charged show and it's £1000, adjust to whatever currency you use, but WAY too expensive considering you can get a generic E-bike for half that.
I didn't see the cost of the kit, can you share what Swytch expects to charge? On their website it is still pre-order. Thanks for all the information you share
Those are raincovers for bicycle seats. They help keeping your butt dry when you had to let your bike stand outside in the rain. They do a good job at keeping birds poo off of your jeans when you where unlucky enough and parked under a tree that would become a favored place to rest for birds on their way to warmer regions. If you didn't recognise it you seem to be lucky enough and only live in sunny areas ;). i envy that
Great well presented review and test. I regularly watch Stu’s reviews and have enjoyed watching your stuff too. You’ve got another subscriber! Question.. does the battery pack have power take off for fitting lights? Here in Northern Europe they are a necessity for a good chunk of the year.
I know this is a three-year-old video but I thought some might find this amusing about Swytch. After six months, my kit arrived Well, most of it. Missing was the power pack thumb throttle and mounting position adapter. Getting up with anyone at Swytch is a minor miracle so I'll see how long it takes to get the remainder of my order. Enjoy a laugh on me!

This video is just what I needed as the Swytch materials on their site assume a higher level of bike work knowledge than I have. Hi. Thanks very much for putting this video together. I'd like to ask for a shot of the power cable exiting the wheel hub and the angle of it before you strapped it to the front forks. My cable is facing down when the bike is right side up, and it seems a strain on the cable at its exit point to turn it upwards in order to tie it to the forks. Glad you're getting over the Pneumonia. A great advertisement for motor assisted cycling which will help folks like me have more confidence on getting on a bike to get fit and eventually to cycle with less assist! Happy New Year. kx
Also the clearance of the front derailleru cage to the chanring teeth is critical. It need sot be priamary and mods need to be to the cadence sensor not moving the cage.
Looks like the disk rotor on your old wheel is held in place with a lockring, rather like the lockring on a rear cassette. The rivets that you mention suggest it's a "fully-floating" type rotor.
Superb. One thing you are very knowledgeable about amps watts voltage, parallel and series I am a dud in this field. I liked this video Is this the video that is within $180. If you don't have an air gun it's also possible to float your grips on and off with water pressure from a tap using a suitable nozzle. And if instead you want to get it off with something slippery you're better off using soap than wd40 or oil since it's possible to rinse out. If you don't have a new set of grips and you get em oily they'll never be the same.

I'm the same weight, definitely get the large watt, you'll thank me.
700 watt or 1k
Get +1000w with 52v 17ah battery
😯 A lot of people got “pneumonia” at the end of 2019 in my city, too.
Lol. Yes. First thought is that he had the covid and didn't know... Glad he is ok now
You did choose wrost bicycle for this installation but that is awesome because your video will cover every possible fine tuning one need to do to install this kit.
I am in the process of watching your video here, and I wanted to tell you thank you for your video. Honestly, you are very good at offering a low stress learning video. I definitely rate you at a 10. You should do this for a living! lol..
Just wanted to give you a "attaboy!" Thx again,
Janine Davis
I'm glad your back and feeling well. I was wondering what happened since I havent seen any new videos.
You mentioned about having Pneumonia. I’m wondering if you had one of the early cases of Covid19. They say it may have started earlier than expected.
I was having exact same thought right now about his "pneumonia" (he is been in Italy)...
@@Zhuki1970 no you fucking dumbass just because he has pneumonia ain't mean he had corona
I'd understand if this was early 2020 but this video is way back in October 2019. You people need to be more informed about this stuff.
@@frederickschulze8014 There are many people saying now that they were very ill with unidentified chest infections well before Christmas. Also the Chinese are not exactly known for telling the truth, they've been lying through their teeth since this Covid thing started.
i say the n word you are a world class dunce.
Thanks for the info I wanted to order a switch kit but missed out on the order time. The info you gave helped me make a decision that this would be a good purchase for me . Thanks again .
a book would be nice. thank you for your easy explanation of stuff.
I have a “Wave” ebike, bought it on the Indiego support type vendor, it came
from China. Should have bought it from my local bike shop. I watch you build batteries with the new no weld snaps. I am an old guy and am not proficient like you, can you build me a new battery to fit in the Wave metal case? Or can you guide me? You are a smart expert. Ed
Well Ed, I understand your dilemma sound pretty easy to straighten it out though right. One thing I never heard of a expert that wasn't smart first haha . I just had to throw that in there, not meant to hurt your feelings just something you can laugh at. Enjoy the rest of your day fellas
Thanks man,
Frank
Glad you're back and healthy! Really excited to see the honda cub finished!
I love this way to get a new bike. It looks not extremelly difficult to install it. I would like to get one in the future. Thank you very much!!
your videos and work is very inspiring just starting my first diy e bike and building a battery for it thanks to you and then the next move is to convert a car!!! please keep up the videos and stay healthy!
I have located the website of the SWYTCH company. I believe you mentioned that the kit you used was a 250w. Do you know if they come in higher wattage, like 1000w or even higher. I really like what I see with this conversion company. If you continue your affiliation with them I hope you will show more conversions in the future.
Ain Australia, if customs opens something they have a clear sticker which advises of that.
Glad to hear that you are on the mend! Thanks for the switch video as I’m thinking of upgrading an old but beautiful mt bike to an ebike.
This units too speed is set for UK/EU too speed of 15.
Their are settings for too speed, wheel diameter, PAS direction(?) and Max power.
Glad to hear you're coming with Part 3 of that DIY Electric Motorcycle. Been waiting for that!
I'm back, baby!
About time too.
🤗
good to see you are back,🤟
yessssssss, u is cool
YES ! i have been waiting soooo long for an update on you and the Honda electric motor project.. that project is so cool :) i really look forward to see the next video :)
I love the way you write your books
That was one of the best explanations on making an Ebike I have seen, Great Job and Thank you!
The disc is a center lock, you would need a Shimano BB tool to remove it (Some use cassette tool instead would have splines on the inside rather than outside)
The silver bit that says Shimano on it is essentially a nut holding it on
The rivets attach the disc to the holder, Can make it lighter and quieter.
Not that there is anything wrong with 6 bolt but tend to find it on slightly older or budget bikes
Thank you for posting all the great videos on your channel
Hope you are in good health now;
We missed videos from you in the last month.
I missed you here on YT. Glad you're back and on the mend, Micah.
Looks very interesting I am 65 and could really use the extra help
Glad your health is back 😊😊👍👍
You didn’t mention how the bike felt coming off the power and braking....you hadn’t fitted the brake sensors.
It's sold from £399 to £499
$400 in U.S. pre-order price... 'I think'.
What is the range of this bike if you don't pedal?
Those are raincovers for bicycle seats. They help keeping your butt dry when you had to let your bike stand outside in the rain.
They do a good job at keeping birds poo off of your jeans when you where unlucky enough and parked under a tree that would become a favored place to rest for birds on their way to warmer regions.
If you didn't recognise it you seem to be lucky enough and only live in sunny areas ;). i envy that
id never want people to think my car is a tesla though, what a cringe thing to have
@@girlsdrinkfeck completely agreed
Ahhh, thanks! Haha I took a shot in the dark at what those were. I got rain cover correct, but just for the wrong part of the bike :-)
Can you tell me the price and where to buy the kit?? All I've found are pre-orders
fg I’d like to know that too. 👍
Yes, how did you get one? Please help... I need to have one fun....
Hi mike hopefully you are doing better this is a nice kit I would like to get me one give up that information so I can get it and have fun like you
i'm guessing add a zero onto 50 bucks, happy is usually expensive and these guys in all their marketing, well, they are very happy
Ìf someone know how to buy them and where they are please help me to find them TK
it looks like that battery will probably last less than 15 mins
They say the pro is about 31 miles.
@blacknester! +!

Glad to see you are back and survived the pneumonia.
Mr. Micah is the BEST !
Great well presented review and test. I regularly watch Stu’s reviews and have enjoyed watching your stuff too. You’ve got another subscriber! Question.. does the battery pack have power take off for fitting lights? Here in Northern Europe they are a necessity for a good chunk of the year.
Could you tell me how much did that conversion kit cost you?
No one will !
Welcome Back Glad Your On Again & Better & I Hope You Get Even Better & That Was A Great Video & it Was Good That The Bike Was Wrong, Thatsi Life & Alot of The Times Thats How it Goes So PERFIC , Everything Else Will Go Easy 👍👍👍😃
It's good your back again, what is the voltage of this swytch kit?
36V. I'd love 48V, but its even more to cram into that little pack.
@@EbikeSchool thanks.
Why imperial units in Tel Aviv?
because its on stolen land
Freedom* units
@@ZCJKF13GDG4 is this a political comment in the middle of an electric bike hub review?
Glad you're feeling better Micah.
Glad to see your back and happy your healthy again. Look forward to more of your videos in the near future.
Holmer, you're glad to see his back? Yikes! TMI!
I think I'll wait on the diesel one.
Hi.
Thanks for the inspiration and best of luck with your house move.
I'm having trouble finding out the price of the unit you ínstalled on this video, can you give me a rough figure?
Welcome back, what is the best way to charge ebikes with solar only, best setup and chargers etc? Maybe a video.?
After watching all the things that can go wrong, the advertisements are so misleading regarding how easy it is to install
I think I need this kit for my wife. She has a minor disability from an injury.
yeah and what safer way for her to travel than an ebike
Can I buy the Swytch kit from you? Also I live in israel!!
You're really cool quick explanation straight to the point and versatile
Just received my Swytch conversion kit so this was very helpful especially dealing with several minor problems. Nothing is ever plain sailing,
Are they still for sale?Cant find one available anywhere un UK.
on pre-order for now in the UK
Liam you know how much it costs?
@@thedragonknight8061 no sorry
Average person could never install this "simple e-bike" kit. Not in a million years.
I does perform well, though. Considering 250 watts.
Good luck on your move and glad you’re doing better
This video is just what I needed as the Swytch materials on their site assume a higher level of bike work knowledge than I have. I have gotten stuck on the disc rotor part as my bike doesn't have one. OK to install without? I full accepted that this would be my slow winter project but I was hoping for a tiny bit more guidance! Thank you.
Sorry to hear about your health challenges. Glad you’re on your way to recovery. Have to admit when you mentioned changes I thought you were leaving your channel. Very happy to hear that’s not the case. Also thought you might be announcing a new family member lol!
Glad you are back healthy
thank u so much for all this super informative videos u have post through the years send u best vibes for a speedy recovery u have been an incredible inspiration to many conversion i made on electric scooters back up batteries self sustained sheds and very soon a big boat tel aviv has become the silicon valley flagship of the world i was lucky to be there for a month visiting a friend pre covid .once again thank u for all the education and information u provide for the aceleration of electrification in the world ,
I look forward to your next video. This kit is pretty interesting.
First of all....GET THE DAM SHOT! Next of all, WOW, it's incredible to see someone who has such a command of their subject and communicates it so well. Knowing your subject and communicating it are two different talents and you have definitely mastered both. Lastly, it is satisfying to see someone who appears so happy with their work......hope that never fades. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the awesome video! Very interesting and easy DIY kit for converting regular bicycles. Will check it out.
Thanks.....looks cool, but still a bit complicated for unexperienced people. Welcome back healthy to TA, hope to be back soon there enjoying the bike paths 😎
It need sot be priamary and mods need to be to the cadence sensor not moving the cage.
looks like a fun thing to install if you are into tinkering.
Cool simple kit to get EVERYONE on e-bikes!
Removing the handle bar - just slide in a little bit thicker zip tie on 2 sides :)
How much did this whole kit cost? I liked the way you assembled it. Please give me details of this kit how I can order it and the cost? and how long it will take me to get it. You are the man with knowledge. Take care of your phenomena we all need you
Thanks for showing the installation. I’m looking for a conversion kit and I think Swytch is the easiest one so far, but still kind of scares me.
Thanks. I'm glad all is well and getting better.
Interesting, now you really need a front wheel lock. And this is the fist time I see a front wheel drive bike, maybe an AWD when you pedal.
Glad to see you're back. Thanks!
thanks for the featuring swytch ebike kit. been thinking to purchase one. you earn one subscriber here.
