Try boxing. Dodging a 0.150 sec cross from Manny Pacquaio vs hitting a fast ball at 0.395 sec. There's more reaction time to hit a baseball than dodging a fast punch. And then Gennady Golovkin jab at 0.125 sec NO one could dodge Gennady's heavy jab.
@@HenryTheBoilermaker3rdYear but what hurts more a major leaguer died because they got hit by a ball to the head you don’t think a healthy athlete can take a punch to the head and survive of course I mean you can survive a 90 mph pitch to the head but get injured really bad
Kevin Harte it's not about whether or not you can catch a glimpse after you blink, but can you react to it. And the answer is no. After you blink and open your eyes again the ball is too close to you and moving too fast for you to be able to react
Are you kidding me!?!?! They curve and drop just as much as all these fancy pitches! And you have no idea how hard it is to track a lacrosse ball through 15 people.
@paintbasstard i agree, as a cricketer has more time to think about the shot and more surface area on both bat and ball to get the shot off. But both incredibly difficult.
If you are considering a line drive, the top speed is right when the ball leaves your foot or the bat. The rest of the time the ball is not in contact with the initiating force, it is slowing down.
actually I've played many different sports; tennis, football, soccer, golf, basketball, baseball (just to name a few) and the reason I love baseball so much is because it is the hardest sport I've played. I've been playing since I was 4 and I'm still not the best on my high school team. I've played basketball since 10 and football since 9 and I played tennis with my friends who play high school tennis and I went golfing with my dad and I am already good at all those sports. so If you want to say
just wondering, how bout a nhl goalie, they can face shots up to 110mph, and they can come at anytime, and at any angle. i just gained huge respect for goalies.
@iser0009 i think itss about the same as a 100 mph fastball considering the distance from server to recicer is greater than 60ft 6 inches (the distance from home to the pitchers mound)
@amorgan01 I didnt meen it like that lol.. I ment that in baseball Pitching is as hard as moving the ball out of your fingers when u release it in cricket, Batting only takes co-ordination and is not very hard at all, Cricket you have to apply everything u need to get used to the conditions of the pitch, there is no "strike" once your out your gone, You can die any second on the cricket pitch if your not concentrating.
Lol, the funny thing is, they actually corrected their «the-hardest-thing-to-do-in-sports-is-hit-a baseball» statement later on, when they compared it to stopping a football penalty kick. Less time to react, less opportunities or tries [you only get one shot], more area to cover [for the keeper], blbidy bla blah...
I can throw a faster baseball pitch than bowl a cricket ball, and I can only call Shaun Tait that truly can bowl a 100mph monster. Remember: You must keep your arm with less than 15 degrees of bend when you unwind and bowl, if this rule is somehow abolished, I think the speeds both sports can reach can be the same.
Landon Duplechin Finley was a very good player, but not a great player. He was never at the level of someone like Ken Griffey, Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, etc. He was never a superstar like those guys which is why you probably never heard of him, not being a baseball fan. But he still was very good.

@hawty0boy What baseball team did you play for? Anyway, I have to say hitting a cricket ball is much easier than hitting a baseball. I play high school baseball but play with high school cricket players very often, so the way I see it it should be equally hard playing against both of them. But although hitting a good spin bowler is very hard it's NOTHING like a good slider or curveball coming at you. Also it isn't the hardest thing to catch a ball bare handed.
The average blink time is 100 milliseconds, with the *_longest_* blink times being at 400 milliseconds; they straight-up lied about 400 being average to make things seem more impressive. It doesn’t take a genius to know that you blink faster than it takes to say roughly half of ‘one Mississippi’. Sport Science is a fucking joke. lol
@brettone100 When you pitch a softball, the arm goes up so you can throw a riser... When you pitch a baseball, the arm is coming downward so it is impossible to throw a riser... nice try though
@RIOGDT55 Blocking a penalty kick is mainly luck. How many times do you see it where the goalie dives the wrong way. You try hitting a 95 mph fast ball and see how hard it is. Then once you've seen the fastball 3 or 4 times try hitting a 80 mph change up.
Can't believe Sports Science did an episode on reaction time and didn't include sprinters. Sprinters have to optimize their reaction time to be as fast as humanely possible. If the gun goes off and you blink before moving, your competition is already a few meters ahead of you and you're essentially out of the race unless you have crazy top speed like Usain Bolt.
@vabr2 i totally agree with u, baseball is pethetic and takes no skill at all. Cricket is extremely hard "from what ive heard" :D I play cricket and im at the top of my game and a highly ranked person in the cricketing world says i can go wherever i want if i stick to my dream :D
@hawty0boy (part 2) What I am saying is try to make some of the infield plays that are in baseball. Even the people on the cricket team didn't want to do it (not talking ground balls). Am I saying which is better? No. I like both. But as which is harder to HIT, I have to say baseball. You are trying to have a round ball meet a round bat, squarely. Even saying it sounds hard. I'm just saying I'v hit more cricket balls moving at 70mph than baseballs moving at 70mph. They are both awesome sports.
@hawty0boy Ok, hitting a cricket ball is alot easier than hitting a baseball.. baseball bats have a sweet spot of about 4 inches, and a quarter inch off determines the difference between a ground ball and a pop up. Now i'm not saying hitting a cricket ball is easy. But it is easier than hitting a baseball.
no one can throw curveballs at 98 mph. no matter what you say, that's impossible. i admit that i don't know who Ben Hilfenhous is but when you throw curveballs, the spin of the ball makes the ball slow down significantly. u'd have to be able to throw like 110 mph fast balls to even have a chance at getting a 98mph curveball. 160kmh is 100mph
90 MPH= .44 seconds to get to the plate. There is only a 3 inch 'sweet spot'. And if the ball dosen't go into that area its a guarantee out. Also with outside inside and down the middle pitches you have to swing earlier or later to get the sweet spot on the ball. You have to swing earlier inside and later outside. And also combine that with junk pitches it makes it a very difficult sport. I have never played or seen cricket but you can't say this sport takes no skill.
@DraikonZ3 Actually no... Hitting a cricket ball is much harder man.. batting is the hardest but there are so many aspects of cricket that are hard, in fielding you have to react so fast if your in the slips or silly point positions and we have no "gloves" while fielding. I know what im talking about.. Ive played State level baseball and its easy and fuck. Cricket takes.. lets just say.. Skill.
how the hell is that the hardest sport in the world. they sit arround waiting for the ball for such a long time! it may be the hardest to hit something but if u watched the other sports science witht the gollie its the same reaction time but they accualy have to move. nd there is hardly no risk of of physical injury exept the occasinall stray ball. (and ps if u can smoke or drink whlie you play something its not a sport)

do u even under stand how fast 98mph is? if you're a pitcher, it would reach homebase in under .4 seconds. no normal person can do that even with crow hop.
DragonsREpic They are accounting for the average pitchers reach. They don't throw the ball from the rubber, they throw it from _at least_ 5 feet in front of it. There's one pitcher in the MLB that throws from 9 feet in front.
