Don't forget the few Star Wars novels/audiobooks written with Lucas ("Cloak of Deception", "Darth Plagueis", the 6 movie novelizations , "Shatterpoint" and "Labyrinth of Evil").
I’m afraid I see Miss information. That sound effect is not the shockwave bombs going off. That sound effect is the sound of heavy plasma from the game block fortress exploding.
Maybe it's something that I picked up on initially (but it gets lost at times while watching the movie,) I feel as though Padme uses the Force unknowingly to understand Anakin and is able to synchronize with him. My experience with females is that they love to synchronize. This is a cringe comment for sure 😂
@@LightsaberGoBrrrrrr Nah, he looks cool, but yeah. His screentime in the OT simply doesn't justify how popular he is on those scenes alone, and for a long time, thats all he had to his characters name.
Credit due, Boba is a dark horse character whose popularity was out of proportion, and then he got bolstered by comics and novels afterwards. Jango got good representation in this movie is _because_ Boba was a dark horse favourite, and by extension, Boba's unusual popularity was what gave us the Clones we know and love.
I think why people like Boba is the mystery to him. He's quiet, and his design is cool, plus little things like "No disintegrations" and "as you wish" are cool lines
Thank you for bringing up how unironically realistic it is for Anakin to be "creepy and weird" around his crush. When I first met my wife she asked if I was gay because of how weird I was acting. Women need to realize when you first meet a guy, give them 5 minutes of accumulative weird-time, because maybe you're visually a goddess in their eyes. If you met your celeb crush you'd be awkward and weird too, it's just for us men we sometimes find the cashier at wal-mart to be celebrity levels of beautiful. Example: My wife was some poor sporty tomboy, and that made her more beautiful than Angelia Jolie.
A lot of people complain about the Prequels overusing CGI and while the movies utilize it, George Lucas and the crew also utilized a lot of practical effects. A lot of locations and vehicles were miniatures. Naboo palaces? Practical miniatures. Kamino cloning facility? Practical miniature. Tatooine podrace arena? Practical miniature. Separatist lairs on Utapau, Mustafar, and Geonosis? All practical miniatures. Not to mention the interiors of these locations were giant sets built by the crew and not CGI on a green screen.
You shouldn’t be using the fact they didn’t use 100% CGI as a compliment. For this movie George Lucas was experimenting, trying to find the cheapest way to use it, causing the CGI artists to be overworked.
I think a more accurate complaint would be that a lot of things did not even need to be CGI; like the clones. It would have been cheaper and better looking just to put a bunch of guys in real armor costumes.
@@MrMiniman629 I'm not sure it would've been cheaper, actually. They'd have to pay, train, and properly direct all of those extras to believably move as a unit (and not to mention find ones of believably similar proportions to pass off as clones of eachother), as well as manufacture all of those suits. Those compound costs add up quick. Not sure if it'd be more or less expensive than the CGI, but I wouldn't be surprised either way
As a Dooku/Separatist Supporter, I appreciate that you see him as he is, not just a pure evil. And to defend the CGI, Lucas was basically inventing CGI. Also for people who hate the CGI. Each of the background Jedi were filmed separately on a green screen, while the background was a model they built then put the characters in.
The Duel of fate in espiodes 1 show how Jedi and Sith have fought each other, however the sith have evolved, using manipulation and tricky rather brute force tactics to archive their goal like how Dooku and Sidious have done.
haha Dooku/Separatist Supporter just sounds as if it was a real conflict :D but yeah, thinking about it I would also support them...Jedi order was too blinded by their arrogance and their promise to keep the galaxy safe, not realizing that they were supporting the increasingly bad guy....even in OT, it is never stated why is the empire so bad, why rebels fight against it. Even Luke wants to join the Empire so that he could ride X-wing flyers.
Maybe it was bit retconned by clone wars show which I didn't see but nobody ever discuss how Dooku might not be actually a sith or rather he is separatist/grey jedi or simply for himself. He works with Palpatine but he also quiet literally tells Obi-wan that the Sith is in control of republic and Obi-wan can join him. Together, maybe they can defeat him and go on their own road. But Obi-wan just dismisses it.
As a child, this was my favorite Star Wars movie. To this day, I love the prequel era, the worldbuilding displayed in the prequels, the imaginative aliens, and the types of adventures our heroes went in on. As an adult, I acknowledge many Anakin and Padme scenes were more awkward and wooden than I noticed as a kid, but even then, I stand behind the fact that other scenes people rag upon are actually good. Anakin's conversation about sand, delving into the contrast between slave and queen, but leading into their unity, is unironically good and I will stand on this (sand)hill forever. Likewise, Anakin and Padme talking politics while teasing each other is good. And as someone who actually doesn't have most of the "uncanny valley" senses people do when looking at older/bad CGI, it's easily believable for me and an enormous realm of imagination for me. I notice more narrative flaws as an adult, but that's not limited to just AOTC - but meanwhile as an adult, I notice more of the subtleties and manipulations I didn't as a kid, so I get a new win. I've recently done a rewatch of the SW six-ology, which I haven't in a while... and yep. AOTC still fun.
I remember feeling moved by the goofy awkward romance of Anakin and Padme when I was a kid. I loved them as characters and the awkwardness felt like real people trying to connect. It was their first real romance/relationship. I think first relationships can be awkward for most people, especially when those people aren't used to lowering their shields to let others in.
The scene of Anakin's mom death still gives me goosebumpes to this day. One of the best scenes in Star Wars ever. The fact his mom is so happy and fullfilled to see him, that the last thing she ever tells him is "I love you" (like Padmé and Obi-Wan did). The shot where she falls cold dead in his arms is renaissance painting-like and so thrilling. Then the insidious music coming in as Anakin is filled with pure hate. In this moment we also feel the hate, in Anakin's shoes, many of us would do what he did. The Dark Side feels exactly like this seducing power we may all feel, not the dumb "bad guy" behavior we can see in movies. And this act is another step towards the Dark Side, just like Anakin's shadow on the wall is Vador-like when Padmé hugs him before he goes to save his mom. Just Wonderful
There's a truly impressive shot during the final battles of clones and droids shooting each other in a sandstorm (it made a brief appearance in this video). It's 100% CGI but the models of the clones, the physics of the storm, and the lighting, particularly that of the different-colored blaster-bolts whizzing through the sand, is so on point that you don't even question it.
Even the frontal assault kind of makes sense in this case because they are trying to push hard and eliminate the Separatist leadership before they escape. I'm assuming so reason they don't just bomb them from orbit.
Other than the cringe dialogue and overuse of CGI, people give this movie way too much hate. I’m so glad there are some people out there who actually give it love
I’ve always maintained that the bones of the prequels’ story are mostly good, though the execution as far as the dialogue, direction and acting is pretty lacking, and the effects have not aged well. They are definitely quotable at least, and far more memorable than Disney’s attempt at a Star Wars trilogy. I’ll give them that.
"But in my films, the dialogue is not where the movie is. My films are basically in the graphics. The emotional impact comes from the music - and from juxtaposing one image with the next." "The last thing that will be dealt with is the dialogue. You know, I'm not known for my dialogue. I think of it as a sound effect, a rhythm, a vocal chorus in the overall soundtrack. Mostly, everything is visual." RUclips channel "Rick Worley" has more on that. There's a reason why George Lucas even edited different takes together. And honestly: Don't forget the few Star Wars novels/audiobooks written with Lucas ("Cloak of Deception", "Darth Plagueis", the 6 movie novelizations , "Shatterpoint" and "Labyrinth of Evil").
two details I really love in this movie are 1. In the scene where Anakin is riding on the speeder in Tatooine to get to his mom, you can hear Duel of the fates in the background and 2. In the scene where Anakin breaks down to Padme about slaughtering the Tuskins, you can hear the emperor’s theme in the background both of these are excellent instances of musical foreshadowing, imo
Honestly, Anidala never creeped me out. Beyond the simple fact of being a teen or young adult and awkward is common, I have the childhood trauma like Anakin has so I can confirm it's hard to be flirtatious without messing up along the way. In my opinion, the movie is not bad, but perhaps Padmé should have been more of the "seducer" to "fix" the love story I guess. Btw, not seducer in the sense of attempting to force herself on Anakin but more of telling him that there is a life outside of the Jedi Order. Anakin attempts to resist his feelings like Leia in Empire Strikes Back but not to Padmé but more of the Jedi's indoctrination of him and they eventually just come together.
But then Padme would be creepy though. Plus I personally find it weird because they knew each other when Anakin was ten, and that's kinda creepy from both parties IMO
@@redgamer2754 Not seducer in the sense of attempting to force herself on Anakin but more of telling him that there is a life outside of the Jedi Order. Anakin attempts to resist his feelings like Leia in Empire Strikes Back but not to Padmé but more of the Jedi's indoctrination of him and they eventually just come together. The thing is its not creepy. They're both legal adults and it wasn't like she was sharing kisses with younger Anakin (ew) but both who are adults. The problem with Anidala is that they barely knew each other but that was intentional.
Honestly, I never really thought anything of it as a kid, since I watched The Clone Wars first and went back to Attack of the Clones from there, so I say that's a pretty good take. Just to nitpick, though, I think giving Padmé more seductive elements would've made the relationship a little worse, but that's just me.
It actually is brilliant. It hits a ton of beats that film has used for over a century. No country for old men has the biggest most unrealistic plot holes yet people happily overlook those. @@felphero
@@felpheroIt is brilliant. Jango needed to direct the jedi to Kamino, which is why he hired Zam to do it so he can kill her with the dart. By giving her the worms and the droid, the plan was set. I find it ridicolous how many adults are too dumb to understand the assasination plot.
It's been a while since i rewatched the prequels. I never realized how much the actors sometimes really clash with the cgi background, i understand where the bad cgi argument comes from.
Look. I loved the prequels as a kid and as an adult, I almost fell into the red letter media prequel hate black hole, but some months ago, i fell in love with the prequels and star wars legends all over again. Something i realized with padme's line about how she's a senator and anakin is a jedi makes sense. Prequel haters say its because senators cant be in a relationship but really, the question padme is asking is: "Are you okay with hiding our love for the rest of your life from our family and friends??"Padme holds public office while Anakin is a monk who had to travel and keep the peace. What if they get caught?? It could ruin their lives and reputations for ever with so many implications if the galaxy finds out about their relationship.
The scenes they cut of Anakin and Padmé seem so much better then the scenes they kept. What a tragedy (almost as tragic as Darth Plagueis) Also I like how much effort you put into your description
One of the best scenes of this movie is probably the ending. When Palpatine and a few senators watch over the clone army embarking on their transports. How the music changes from an epic tune that fits the republic to the imperial march showing thst with the beginning of the clone wars, there's no turning back. The republic has already started walking down the oath to an inevitable Empire.
I remember liking all the prequels as a kid and never understood why the hate for them As I'm older now, i still really like them. Yeah they have their problems, no denying that, but i think they were way overhated. AotC may arguably be the worst of the prequels, but aside from the love plot, i thought it was way better than i remembered
I rewatched the original 6 a couple months ago, and was thoroughly impressed by all of them. Not doing a full review here but they all just ... felt ... better than every movie I've watched in the last 5 years (except Nobody, that was a fun one).
@BobMcBobJr I agree. I rewatched The Phantom Menace for the first time in 10years. With the exception of the Maul/Qui Gon/Obi-Wan saber fight at the end, I considered TPM to be the weakest of the prequels. Well after having been dragged through the mud with the Sequels, TPM was way better than I remembered it being, and I've always liked AOTC, except for the lack of chemistry between Hayden and Natalie in the love scenes. Revenge of the Sith is easily as good as Return of the Jedi, in my opinion. But I challenge anyone to rewatch The Phantom Menace, especially if they haven't seen it for a long time, and compared to the sequels, it's no contest. 1 -6 are pure George Lucas, and the Sequels are just not anywhere near the quality of 1-6. Not even close.
Man I loved this movie growing up. My friends and I would re-enact scenes from Attack of the Clones with plastic lightsabers and film it with our parents’ crappy 2000s camcorder 😂 The Bounty Hunter chase scene was my favorite scene of any movie as a kid
I love the contrast between the two origins of the two armies. One is a stormy wet planet with a global ocean, filled with sophisticated aliens and modern architecture that looks really sterile, and a production line of clones that looks like it's working perfectly. The other is a sunny, dry global desert filled with a primitive species of aliens that live in dirty, dusty tunnels and has factories that look like they are about to fall apart at any moment.
You earned yourself a subscriber immediately. 10 minutes in and I'm so happy you made this video. It's rare to find Prequel love on here or anywhere to be exact. AOTC is underrated as hell, and does some of the best world building I've ever seen. This movie does so much for Star Wars will progressing the Prequel Trilogy in a great way. I'll forever defend this movie. So thank you for making this video. Gonna watch your The Phantom Menace video right after.
As someone who grew up in the Original Trilogy era, I still like the prequels. And Attack of the Clones is actually one of my favorite Star Wars movies. I know I'm in the extreme minority here, but I think it was a very well executed second act in the prequel trilogy. Other than the romance element not being fleshed out properly, it is still a well-paced, action adventure sci-fi mystery.
i used to love a lot this movie when i was a kid, it was my 2nd favourite SW movie. But unffortunetly (or not), it became my least favourite form the 6 movies. This didn't happen because I started to think the film was bad, but rather because I started to like the other films much more
What’s great about the jango and boba scenes is you can’t really say they’re evil ? Because do they really think they’re on the bad side of things or is is a matter of circumstance , growing up a mandolorian and then being a bounty hunter ( a morally grey occupation)
I just finished rewatching all the Star Wars movies (episodes one through nine) in preparation for this, that way it would all be fresh in my mind, so this timing was once again perfect!😆I’m glad that the prequels are finally getting the recognition they deserve, and not hated on so much. Being critical of something isn’t bad, but you need positive feedback to balance the negative feedback, much like how the light and dark sides balance each other out😌
Showcasing a non force user (Jango Fett) besting a fucking Jedi Master was the one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen when I was a kid. That one encounter solidified this as a gem of a movie. It showed Jedi are not the gods they were hyped up to be. And they did it in the most badass way possible. The introduction of the Mandolarians and their grounded tactics as being formidable against space wizards… amazing.
One interesting thing about AOTC that I only just thought of and have not heard anyone talk about are the contrasts between the separatists and republic. They are 2 sides of the same coin. There are obvious ones of course like Jedi/Sith, mass produced secret armies, and they both being led by the same person but I just realized a few others. Kamino and Geonosis are both aesthetically similar. They are creepy worlds that are mostly barren aside from giant spires that are home to cultures that value conformity and production. One is wet the other is dry. Padmé and Dooku are both political idealists with similar goals. Padmé believes the crisis can be averted through diplomacy while Dooku believes that violence is the only solution. Jango Fett was hired by both factions. To create for the republic and destroy for the separatists. Both the clones and the droids are made in the image of their creators. Jango Fett and the Geonosians. Both sides are corrupt with businesses and politics mixing way too much. In the republic politics is the bigger influence while the separatists have business being the dominant role. Both are led by fallen Jedi. The Jedi council has lost sight of their purpose and Dooku fell to the dark side because of this. There are lot more than this but I just want to name a few.
22:06 I’m always down for a good video defending the prequels, but I do think referencing the clone wars show a lot is a bad idea. You have to remember that the prequel trilogy was made before the show came to bridge the gap between episodes 2 and 3. Therefore, I think arguing the quality of the prequels is much weaker if it has to rely on the clone wars to save it. A good movie needs to stand on its own. The clone wars is awesome, but you can praise the prequels without them.
There are a few things I would like to point out in this film. For one, the little motifs John Williams adds in certain scenes that greatly amplify them. When Anakin talks about slaughtering the Tusken Raiders, you'll hear the dark side theme creep in. There are other moments like this if you listen closely. In the solo duel between Dooku and Anakin, I really love the part when the lights cut out and the duel is only illuminated by the lightsabers clashing. It's a great visual trick that elevates the scene. And while the purpose of the clones isn't fully revealed until Revenge of the Sith, the scene of Palpatine overlooking the Clone army as the Imperial March plays, and after seeing Yoda question whether they were even victorious, is a masterpiece of a scene. I would argue it's one of the best scenes in the franchise.
when I was younger my parents watched star wars with me and the more humorous parts of this movie and the previous one where highlights I liked Jar Jar binks and the funny thing with c3po switching heads with a battle droid.
I think if you would isolate this movie from the other Star Wars films you would find that it's actually a decent movie with memorable characters and cool fight scenes. However it does fall to the movies before it though. Or this could just be my nostalgia speaking as this was the first Star Wars movie.
7:00 fun fact. If you listen to the soundtrack version of the music for that chase scene you can hear an electic guitar that they were going to include but cut from the film. Not sure why but we almost got an electric guitar solo during a chase scene in star wars.
While im not biggest fan of this movie, but i am at least happy that there are people who like this movie, but i dont think its worst movie ever made. Great video Rockotar and take care and stay safe 👍.
For me, this was the best StarWars movie. From good action scenes, a lot of interesting aliens, good villain introduction like Count Dooku and the romantic tension between Padme and Anakin was really good. I liked the focus put on the duty, it takes a great fight to be selfless and not listening to your moods. Padme confesses her passsionately love for Anakin just when she thought their death was irevocable.
People that complain about the overuse of CGI in the prequels are actually complaining about the quality of the CGI in the prequels, which is a moot point because technology at the time only allowed for that quality of CGI to be possible. The sequels used more special effects and CGI than the prequels, but they get a pass because the technology is better developed and thus doesn’t stand out as much. And the most ironic part is that people should be THANKING the prequels for using CGI in the ways they did and paving the way for more films to use the technology in similar ways and advance it to the level we see it in by the time of the sequels.
I had a big silly grin during your whole video while you were talking about all of the awesome stuff AOTC did right! This is still my personal favorite prequel film to this day (yeah I know), it literally defined an entire era of stuff people love... like the Clone Wars aesthetic, cyberpunk Coruscant, Anakin and Obi-wan's banter, Kamino, LAAT gunships, Kit Fisto, Aayla Secura, Yoda being a badass... etc, etc. Its easy to take a lot of these things for granted now, but this was where it all started. Personally I always felt like picking your favorite Lucas Star Wars movie is like picking your favorite ice cream flavor, there's no wrong answer. They're all good but most of us have a preference for which one really "speaks" to you. This was such a great essay! To the point and entertaining throughout. Thank you for having an open mind about an often maligned chapter of the saga. You talked about the things you didn't care for just as much as its merits, but never felt unfair or overly biased. Just a solid video that I enjoyed from start to finish! ".. We will watch your career with great interest"
Yes, probably. It doesn't hold a candle to the battle of Hoth. Even the first time I watched it, what I saw was two CGI armies clashing with each other.
17:40 okay so George Lucas himself describes the "I don't like sand" scene as "The awkward kiss" on the AOTC commentary, so the scenes being "awkward" is very much by design and in line with the characters, it doesn't matter if YOU don't find it pleasant because it's not supposed to be, you felt exactly how George intended you to feel in that moment because of how he wrote the dialogue, how is that not by any measure of common sense GREAT execution?
I watched the Prequel Trilogy for the first time in the past year and I couldn't believe this wasn't well received by the fandom! It's the perfect three act tragedy: Episode 1 sets up the world and introduces the cast, Episode 2 deepens the plot and relationships between characters, and Episode 3 is the consequences of everything prior! The CGI is charming, the choreographed fights slap, and there's the perfect amount of camp throughout. I think some people just hate fun.
That’s kind of the prequels in a nutshell, when you watch the scene you can think “what on earth did he say?!” The. When you hear George Lucas break down the motivations and what he was aiming for it can be really profound and interesting. The problem often lies with the execution of the scene not the intention.
@@Andifinedseriously, a character who spent the first 10 years of their life as a slave on a desert world talks about sand as a young adult in an awkward romantic situation and you don’t see any deeper meaning? Time to stop watching movies 😂
It’s about time this movie got a defence, especially AOTC. People hated the romance in this movie because the dialogue was awkward and cringey. Anakin is a 19 year old boy, who has been trained exclusively in how not to engage in flirtation and romantic conversation, trained to detach himself, is extremely overpowered, and deeply traumatised by life as a slave on Tatooine, losing his mother, and then holding her whilst she dies, and THEN having to carry the horrible secret of revenge-killing an entire tribe of sentient beings, including children. The only thing that would be unrealistic, would be Anakin being a smooth talking pickup artist. I see his awkward speech as, frankly, very believable. Lots of real flirting is adorably cringey. Not everyone is a poet or a pickup artist. Lastly, when he says he doesn’t like sand - it is coarse and rough and it does get everywhere - I think he is also talking not just about the actual sand of Tatooine, but how he never feels free of the memory of it even now - it gets everywhere in the mind. We know, when he talks about that to Padme, he has been dreaming of his mother suffering on Tatooine. He can’t even escape the “sand” of Tatooine in his dreams.
I just watched this movie with my 4 year old and honestly you're so on point with the positivity! The movie has its faults, but my god did the 4 year LOVE the speeder chase and the SEISMIC CHARGE!
I am excited for you to discuss Revenge of the Sith. I think it genuinely competes with the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back for the best. It's not as consistently good as ESB but it has some of the greatest scenes in all of cinema.
It was always my favourite prequel. It shows more of the Star Wars universe than any other movie of the series - and I watch those movies for the fantastic and imaginative worlds and alien life forms.
I feel like most people my age have a similar view of nostalgia for Attack of the Clones. It became one of the less rewatched SW movies later on, but I still appreciate the lore. It’s cliche, but I think it could have been elevated to a masterpiece if edited differently. The weakest CGI shots were last minute changes. The droid factory scene wasn’t in the original cut. Anakin and Padme simply went from point A to point B and the droids stayed out of the main conflict. In its place were more scenes of character development for Anakin and Padme. The soundtrack also took a backseat to the sound design when you realize how much of Williams’ score was cut and how there’s many big scenes without music. Still fun and rewatchable, I’m only this harsh because I love the saga as a whole
As weird as it sounds I love the cringe dialogue for the love story. It is the dialogue between a monk who is not supposed to be having these conversations and a Politician who is supposed to be the ideal selfless politician who never thinks of what she wants. They are supposed to be stuttering oafs. While it is my number 5 of the Original six, I agree NONE of the original six are bad. Also, my personal favorites in order, though I believe that episode 5 is the best objective movie are: 3, 5 and 1 tied, 6, 2, and 4
I remember watching this on the midnight showing and a friend of mine as much involved with collecting Star Wars figures as myself and before the movie we talked a lot about it and had wondered if this was going to be as good as Empire in the scheme of what Empire was in the OT. On my way out, he searched me out and asked me if I thought it was as good as Empire. I told him I thought it was better than Empire. I could see that he was conflicted. The next time we met again was waiting for the midnight showing of Revenge of the Sith, he told me he didn't like AOTC as much as myself saying it was as good. He wanted to know why I said that. I said in two characters, Christopher Lee and Jango Fett. Then it made sense to him. GL being a huge Hammer fan he was now aficionados of both Cushing and Lee and the incredibly funny set piece where Lee comes to the Marquette of Yoda the 1:1 size of him with the vampire teeth on his persons and Lee reacting to what he saw it makes me laugh now remembering how perfect that was. Perfect showing that GL had his own fan boy elements and what Lee said in introducing his family to GL and pointing to him saying nobody in all of Hollywood has ever done what he was able to do. To create a movie that no studio could tell him to change this item or that, there was no intervention allowed and that isn't something that had ever been done before and for that minor part alone was not to be missed but to be appreciated. Thank the Maker.
For me attack of the clones is the Weakest of the prequels while phantom menace get better and better the more I watch attack of the clones more weak the more times but I would not called it the worst of Star Wars franchise that honor goes both the last Jedi and rise of skywalker
Product of its time. CGI was getting huge and they jumped on it. The clones in this look better than most of the super hero misses that come out these days. I’ve always thought of the prequel and main trilogy as more like theater. In theater, exaggerated movements like Shmi’s death, and direct dialogue are the standard.
When I was a kid I watched the og trilogy over and over on vhs and when this finally came out on DVD it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. It was my favorite before ROTS. I still love it and I'm glad I'm not the only one
I grew up with the prequels so they hold a special place for me. I kind of understand the hate but people blow it out of proportion. I think this is a great movie about what not to do as a teacher, being overly critical, and as a talented youth, being rash. There is so much to learn and understand from it. The prequels are my favorite for the depth that they have.
I love attack of the clones, this movie was there for me through a tough time of my life, people give it too much hate because of "whiny ani and his hate for sand". This movie has so much put into it, action, adventure, thrill, mystery, tragedt, the asteroid chase, war movie, and of course romance! The beginning of the clone wars left me wanting more!
Obi knew the answer to missing Planet, but he couldnt say it himself, because its against the perfect record. He waited for the child to say the unthinkable. You see it in his reaction, he knew
I understand the hate this movie in particular gets, I just don't care. The cool stuff is cool enough to carry, and this has been my favorite prequel movie since I was a kid
While i do agree that Attack of the Clones is the weakest of the original Star Wars films minus the sequels but i actually enjoyed it upon re-watch, and your video is accurate with my views. By the way i love how you said my title at the end.
I actually think that Palpatine intended the assassination attempts to fail so that the jedi themselves could find the Clone army! For example, after Viceroy Gunray told Dooku that he wants Padmé dead ,Palpatine and Dooku hire Jango Feet and tell him to bomb the main Naboo ship knowing well that Padmé wasn’t in it and after that Palpatine could have an excuse to hire some jedi to look after her. Palpatine then tells Jango Feet to assassinate Padmé with the space worms and the plan fails because the jedi sent by Palpatine intercept both the worms and the Changeling wich is killed with a precision weapon by Jango Feet that can be tracked to the clone factory. Honestly I do not get why there is so much confusion with this scene, the space worms are actually a good killing method that is more silent than a blaster and explosion and more difficult to sense, the droid sent to deliver and retrieve the space worms is not capable of autonomous thinking or self destruct following Palpatine’s desire for the jedi to track Jango Fett, Jango Fett’s Changeling being a Changeling adds more tensions to her scenes and of course Jango Feet cannot go back to Padmé’s home considering that it is in a high allert after the second failed assassination attempt and Padmé may not even be there and also it makes sense for Jango Feet to utilize precise modified weapons rather than normal ones.
Palpatine is a good planner, but there's no way he could predict Jango using an untraceable weapon, and Obiwan knowing just the right obscure person to trace it back to a planet which has been deleted from all star maps. I don't buy it. If that were to be taken as the truth, then Palpatine is simply a god and he should have taken over long before the events of the movies. No, it is much more likely that Palpatine had nothing to do with it. This was Nute Gunray's doing, through Dokuu, who had to secure the Trade Federation loyalty for the CIS, and it is likely neither Dokuu nor Palpatine had planned for the war to start when it did
@@fede98k54 Palpatine can use the force to sense the future tho, as indicated during his boast about how "everything proceeded according to [his] design" in RotJ.
I'm so glad the prequels are getting appreciation. The Phantom Menace is my favorite but i will look forward to how you think for Revenge Of The Sith. ;)
I've always loved the Prequels more than the OT, warts and all. The politics, the characters, the CGI, the music, all of it. I love those three movies and the Prequel Era in general.
Something you forgot to mention is how good the sound design is in the bounty hunter chase scene. It's very unique from all the other scenes and that makes it feel like more than just another spaceship chase.
The scene where Anikan kills the Tuscan Raiders felt like a natural progression of the story to me, the Tuscan's kinda deserved it and had it coming. Think about it, they kidnapped at beat his mom, and yea so the kept her alive. But what do kidnappers usually do to their victims when they keep them alive? They r@pe them, beat them and the cycle continues until they are bored of her and kill her or she dies from eveything being done to her. So in my opinion, at least that group of Tuscan's 100% deserved it, and it keeps them from doing more of the same thing to other potential victims. Not to mention if they've done it once there's no telling how many times they've done it before, so there's probably a whole list of moral crimes they've committed, no matter what the "rules" of the jedi or the planet are, they had it coming and needed to be delt with for the safety of others as well.
I just now realized when the droid part that was bolted over anakins arm in the factory is foreshadowing of him losing it from Dooku/getting a robotic arm.
TBH I think it goes against Padme's character to accept that Anakin killed women and children. Yes, she knew what the tuskin raiders did, but I'd think she'd draw the line when it comes to slaughtering women and children. Now don't get me wrong, I do like how it establishes how far Anakin went for when he becomes Darth Vader, but I feel that scene should have been shared with Palpatine instead. Picture this: when Anakin comes home with his mother's body, Padme has an idea what Anakin may have done, but she doesn't question him because she knows he's in pain. For all she knows, he could have just killed the sand people warriors. Later on, we see Anakin with Chancellor Palpatine in his office on Coruscant after the events on Geonosis. Palpatine says he's noticed something has been troubling Anakin and Anakin confesses what he did. "I killed them. I killed them all. And not just the men, also the women and the children too. They're like animals! And I slaughtered them like animals! I hate them!" Palpatine rests a hand on Anakin's shoulder and gives a smile that appears reassuring, but in actually one of satisfaction. "To be angry is to be human, Anakin." Now wouldn't THAT be a more fitting scene?
Imagine if Palps set that up (hired the sand people or had someone buy her and leave her vulnerable on purpose) with plans to let Anakin know. "Hey Anakin, I know you're on a mission but I got a message from Tatooine about your mother. I can't send republic aid because that's Hutt space." EXCEPT! he finds out that Anakin already found out and left. "Huh? I wonder how he did?"
It sounds alright, but this is before Anakin is a jedi-general, there wouldn't be an immediate need for the Chancellor of the Galactic Republic to publicly meet up with some padawan.
I love how after the sequels came out alot more people have started appreciating the prequels more, even the ones that still don't like them. As someone who liked the prequels and hated the Force Awakens since it came out I feel so validated
Not gonna lie this was my favorite movie as a kid to put on in the early 2000’s when we ordered pizza and had Coca Cola on the side. Now I’m more revenge of the sith from an adult point of view but this one has a special place in my heart
And the thing is, Empire's End has a short story where Jar Jar is a traveling clown on Naboo entertaining orphans because he can't show his face since everyone blames him for the rise of the empire when he was just as manipulated as everyone else was. He thought he was doing good not knowing what was to come. It's a sad story and it comes off as pointless Jar Jar bashing. As for the movie itself, by far the best plot is the Obi-Wan murder mystery plot where he's trying to find who's trying to kill Padme and then the mystery of the clone army and why Sifo-Dias placed this order without telling the council.
Bro idk, I think anyone who doesn't love the Yoda scene must be on some serious drugs. That scene is so fucking cool! You have Yoda come in and there's the force battle, and then Yoda proves that despite all he still is a master of the blade when necessary. He also uses the Ataru form which is the most fun style to watch by far. Idk how at 13:35 you can allude to the fact that Yoda's CGI is bad. I remember seeing it in theaters and can't remember another times I've been more hyped seeing a movie in person. Additionally, I've recently been rewatched all the movies in release order with my 4 year old son and we were both on the edge of our seat for the Yoda Duku battle. If anything, I think their saber fight was too short!
Actually I think Yoda is probably one of the better CGI elements of the movie, it's mostly the scenes with weak green screen that the CGI is really noticeable because it doesn't match the live action, but Yoda almost always fits in, he is fine.

The Star Wars reviews are my favorites, please make more of them😆👏🤩
Don't forget the few Star Wars novels/audiobooks written with Lucas ("Cloak of Deception", "Darth Plagueis", the 6 movie novelizations , "Shatterpoint" and "Labyrinth of Evil").
I’m afraid I see Miss information. That sound effect is not the shockwave bombs going off. That sound effect is the sound of heavy plasma from the game block fortress exploding.
Or heavy plasma from the game block fortress war
Maybe it's something that I picked up on initially (but it gets lost at times while watching the movie,) I feel as though Padme uses the Force unknowingly to understand Anakin and is able to synchronize with him. My experience with females is that they love to synchronize. This is a cringe comment for sure 😂
It's weird how THIS movie managed to do more good service to Jango than two OT movies did to Boba.
Never understood the love for boba. He’s in like 5 scenes and the defense is “but he looks cool”
Uhhh he kinda looks like a tin can 😅
@@LightsaberGoBrrrrrr Nah, he looks cool, but yeah. His screentime in the OT simply doesn't justify how popular he is on those scenes alone, and for a long time, thats all he had to his characters name.
Boba had more character development and screentime in the Star Wars Christmas Special than the whole OT.
Plus it was a unique time where movies were playing a lot more with cgi
Not sure if it'd be more or less expensive than the CGI, but I wouldn't be surprised either way
@@MrMiniman629All of them though? I mean for the closer shots sure but those larger battles? There’s no way that’s cheaper.
Also it looks better than most marvel movies do now.
haha Dooku/Separatist Supporter just sounds as if it was a real conflict :D but yeah, thinking about it I would also support them...Jedi order was too blinded by their arrogance and their promise to keep the galaxy safe, not realizing that they were supporting the increasingly bad guy....even in OT, it is never stated why is the empire so bad, why rebels fight against it. Even Luke wants to join the Empire so that he could ride X-wing flyers.
Dooku is evil tho. Half evil at least. You have to remember he is a dark side force user. Ain't no one using that without consuqences
I actually loved the cgi because it gave more fantasy flair to it
Agreed
I know EXACTLY what you mean!!! It's sometimes off-putting when Fantasy movies look too realistic.
Exactly how I feel. Watching the prequels now is like reading an old illustrated storybook. Sorta like the Wizard of Oz
I question why George thought clones fighting droids would be interesting
Probably at least to some degree censorship issues since its more acceptable for droids to be shot @@usapostate23
The emotional impact comes from the music - and from juxtaposing one image with the next."
"The last thing that will be dealt with is the dialogue. You know, I'm not known for my dialogue. I think of it as a sound effect, a rhythm, a vocal chorus in the overall soundtrack. Mostly, everything is visual."
RUclips channel "Rick Worley" has more on that.
Overuse of CG? I disagree strongly
Uh the overuse cgi is a straight up lie
CGI is good
two details I really love in this movie are
1. In the scene where Anakin is riding on the speeder in Tatooine to get to his mom, you can hear Duel of the fates in the background
and
2. In the scene where Anakin breaks down to Padme about slaughtering the Tuskins, you can hear the emperor’s theme in the background
both of these are excellent instances of musical foreshadowing, imo

This one was my favorite for years, purely because I watched it on dvd every day when I was 3, and that was only for the arena scene. Good times.
I always like it when a movie commonly seen as not good gets a defense, it's always nice to hear.
It’s a murder mystery on wildly different planets and in a Blade Runner city, and a riveting one at that. I love the way it unfolds.
Yeah, the assassin who hired another assassin who hired a robot who uses poison worms, it's brilliant
It actually is brilliant. It hits a ton of beats that film has used for over a century. No country for old men has the biggest most unrealistic plot holes yet people happily overlook those. @@felphero
@felphero bro acts like this exact kinda thing doesn't happen irl
@@felpheroIt is brilliant. Jango needed to direct the jedi to Kamino, which is why he hired Zam to do it so he can kill her with the dart. By giving her the worms and the droid, the plan was set.

@@vgrepairs People will happily overlook plot holes when the characters and scenarios are still interesting and compelling.
What a tragedy (almost as tragic as Darth Plagueis)
Also I like how much effort you put into your description
The scenes they cut deserve to be out of the film. The ones they kept are much better!

I remember liking all the prequels as a kid and never understood why the hate for them
As I'm older now, i still really like them.
This is where the fun begins
Obi Wans plot and world building in this film is ace.
Man I loved this movie growing up. My friends and I would re-enact scenes from Attack of the Clones with plastic lightsabers and film it with our parents’ crappy 2000s camcorder 😂
The Bounty Hunter chase scene was my favorite scene of any movie as a kid
Why is Jesus tied up in the Roman colosseum?! 😮 25:35
Don’t you remember the part of the Bible where Jesus is almost eaten by a giant alien crab?
This was the first Star Wars movie I saw in theaters. I’ve always held a soft spot for it. At 10 years old, it was pure magic
I do think this is the weakest one of the prequels. But definitely underrated
I love whole prequel trilogy. ❤ It's great
There are a few things I would like to point out in this film.
This was the first star wars movie i ever watched in the movie theater. It will always have a place in my heart because of that.
when I was younger my parents watched star wars with me and the more humorous parts of this movie and the previous one where highlights I liked Jar Jar binks and the funny thing with c3po switching heads with a battle droid.
I think if you would isolate this movie from the other Star Wars films you would find that it's actually a decent movie with memorable characters and cool fight scenes.
However it does fall to the movies before it though.
Or this could just be my nostalgia speaking as this was the first Star Wars movie.
Attack of the Clones has always been my favorite Star Wars movie. I like that it's finally getting some appreciation.
I also remembered it as the weakest growing up but now I'll remember it for all these amazing scenes I forgot I loved so much!
I loved attack of the clones. Anakins slow decent into the dark side you can see him changing more and more as the movie goes on. its amazing.
Seriously the soundtrack during the chase scene is LEGENDARY
Am I the only one who thinks the Battle Of Geonosis is the most badass battle in any movie ever

I love that you shed positivity on hated movies like this 🥰.
Very good vibes, and now I want to go rewatch
I watched the Prequel Trilogy for the first time in the past year and I couldn't believe this wasn't well received by the fandom! It's the perfect three act tragedy: Episode 1 sets up the world and introduces the cast, Episode 2 deepens the plot and relationships between characters, and Episode 3 is the consequences of everything prior! The CGI is charming, the choreographed fights slap, and there's the perfect amount of camp throughout. I think some people just hate fun.
The “I don’t like sand” scene actually carries a lot of depth if you look past how weird it sounds
You are only person I saw so far recognizing the deeper meaning of "i don't like sand". 😅
That’s kind of the prequels in a nutshell, when you watch the scene you can think “what on earth did he say?!” The. When you hear George Lucas break down the motivations and what he was aiming for it can be really profound and interesting. The problem often lies with the execution of the scene not the intention.
That took me too long to understand
I was 15 when this was released. I've UNIRONICALLY loved it for over 20 years. And I was also as creepy as Anakin as a teen
Finally! I’ve been waiting for you to continue your Star Wars series
This is a surprise to be sure but a welcome one
The sequels make me physically hurt sometimes
Interesting retake. Thanks. I’m an OT fan but never got the hate for the prequels.
I will always love this movie no matter what.
Are you gonna do a review of all the Star Wars movies? Similar to your Toy Story Movie Reviews? If so I’d be down.
If he praises the sqeuels, I will stop watching :)
I think this was my favorite Star Wars movie to watch as a kid I really liked the coliseum aspect and Padme as a whole as a little girl
Hey it’s the only prequel that doesn’t kill off every non-R2D2 astromech within 5 minutes of being on screen.
It's actually a really good movie. I really love it. I love it as a kid. And I still love it till this day meaning because I love Star Wars.
It's alright, definitely not the worst Star Wars film
One thing I really liked was that you can hear Qui Gon screaming “Anakin! Anakin!” in the scene when Yoda meditates
If Chris Lee as Count Dooku is in movie it is automatically a good movie
I'm so glad the prequels are getting appreciation.
The Phantom Menace is my favorite but i will look forward to how you think for Revenge Of The Sith. ;)
The Anakin and Padme scenes being awkward don't actually bother me, since that's what they're supposed to be. It's actually more realistic.
This movie was my introduction to Star Wars.
I've always loved the Prequels more than the OT, warts and all. The politics, the characters, the CGI, the music, all of it. I love those three movies and the Prequel Era in general.
It’s 2024 and people are still complaining over the CGI. It hold up after all this time. Meanwhile, the effects for recent movies look like dogshit.
I hate them!"
Palpatine rests a hand on Anakin's shoulder and gives a smile that appears reassuring, but in actually one of satisfaction.
"To be angry is to be human, Anakin."
Now wouldn't THAT be a more fitting scene?
As someone who liked the prequels and hated the Force Awakens since it came out I feel so validated
well said
Not gonna lie this was my favorite movie as a kid to put on in the early 2000’s when we ordered pizza and had Coca Cola on the side. Now I’m more revenge of the sith from an adult point of view but this one has a special place in my heart
Ep 1 was a 7/10 Ep 2 a 8/10 and Ep 3 a 9/10 really good trilogy that got better each movie thats how it should be
And the thing is, Empire's End has a short story where Jar Jar is a traveling clown on Naboo entertaining orphans because he can't show his face since everyone blames him for the rise of the empire when he was just as manipulated as everyone else was.
I’m a prequel guy. But it’s funny how episode 2 is my least favorite of all Star Wars movies but episode 3 is my favorite ever
Then how r u a prequel guy? Your a ROTS guy
I love Attack of the Clones. It's my favorite Star Wars film. I love it so much that I've watched it more times than the other movies.
RUclipsrs "Anomaly Inc", "Rick Worley", "the vile eye" and "Nerdonymous" also have great Star Wars content.
I watched both your latest two videos on the prequels back to back last night and really enjoyed them. Keep up the good work @@Rockotarthepurplehatguy
