There are two types of consciousness :Soul based conciseness vs Animal based consciousness. consciousness by itself is an innate idea and for any conciseness to exist there must already be consciousness(Allah the most exalted) to begin with because physical matter(atoms) does not just randomly transform into thinking human. Thoughts are a distinct quality compared to mere carbon skeleton(How does the carbon skeleton acquire the process of thinking when thinking and carbon skeleton are distinct entities with atoms having no characteristic of life and yet atoms have miraculously gained life). Heart is a faculty of cognition that all major scriptures(especially Quran) talk about which houses the soul. if the faculty of heart is impaired human being is blind to realities of God therefore descends to the level of lower than animals. you have somebody like Adolf Hitler whose brain is very sharp(able to efficiently process empirical data and make associations between it) but his heart(soul) is impaired therefore cannot process any spiritual data which is based on mercy and love and is purely driven by ego based consciousness rather than Heart(soul) based consciousness.

I grew up Mormon. It was 3-4 hours of church on Sunday, 1-2 hours of activities for the male youth on Wednesday, 1-2 hours for the female youth on Thursdays, 1-3 hours of community service in the neighborhood on Saturdays, and then at least one evening a month having another member visit and proselytize to you, and 4-ish more evenings where you go to other members houses to proselytize to them, and another 1-2 hours of lesson planning or other busywork to do during the week if you held a position in the church. They called Sundays days of rest, which only meant they didn't spend money or go out or have any fun on Sundays on top of going to church all day. You'd think if they ostensibly set a day aside to rest from the secular world, they would want to set at least one day apart to rest from their religion.

And they get offended when people call it a cult.

The problem is that in the US especially, atheism has become a very aggressive, dismissive and politically motivated ideology, which is no different on so many levels than the religious right that it tries to illuminate from the public square by intimidation and aggressive, anti-religious slurs. Everyone should be represented in their country's political systems, but not by ideologies that categorically refuse to apply equality and diversity, and new Atheism (or aggressive secularism/humanism) is a very dangerous ideology (history proves that atheism has underpinned many brutal regimes around the world) when it is given any hard political power.

Overall, I thought the bit was kind of dumb as the holiday he's complaining about isn't even a federal holiday, yet he talked about people getting off work, and aside from Christmas there are tons of other holidays where people just get together and chill, like literally every other holiday.
@@davidboyd8751 you make a good point and i move to move Easter to a Monday or make Good Friday a national holiday.
@tkx7 - So, *_to whom_* (or what) were the Pilgrims praying and _giving thanks_ on Thanksgiving? To their "gawd" - and hopefully, to the *_native peoples_* who taught them how to *_survive_* in America, the challenging & often hostile new land? I'll bet it was mostly to their _sky-daddy._ They also *_forced their religion upon_* the Native Americans. Thanksgiving is *_not_* a secular "holy-day" - though many people _pretend_ it is.
@@memyself898 Oh Kay, where are you people from? Firstly, Boyd is wrong Easter is also a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. It was piggybacked onto the pagan celebration of the new growth of nature in the spring. Like Christmas which was coupled with the pagan return of the sun celebration, both have become so commercialized that they have lost most of their religious significance. Pax
