Yasmine Naghdi performs Juliet's Variation from Kenneth MacMillan's Royal Ballet production of Romeo and Juliet, inspired by Shakespeare's play and with music by Sergei Prokofiev.

Since its 1965 premiere with The Royal Ballet, Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet has become a great modern ballet classic of the world repertory. The nuanced and detailed choreography gives dancers in the lead roles a wealth of opportunity for differing interpretations of the doomed lovers.
Evocative designs by Nicholas Georgiadis bring the colour and action of Renaissance Verona, where a busy market all too quickly bursts into sword fighting and a family feud leads to tragedy for both the Montagues and the Capulets. Prokofiev’s ravishing score sweeps this dramatic ballet towards its inevitable, emotional end.

It’s early in the play. Juliet has just become bethrothed to Paris. It’s an arranged marriage. She goes to a ball where she will meet him. The variation is basically Juliet feeling good and entering into adult life. So she dances. At the end some dude starts dancing with her. Who is that masked man? It’s Romeo of course. He’s crashed the party and he Juliet have been making eyes at each other. It’s love at first sight. They are dizzy with this new emotion. She is flying as light as air. They dance perfectly together. But Romeo’s friend Mercutio realizes that the whole room is watching and he comes to Romeo and drags him away before anyone realizes who he is - a Montagu, one of the sworn enemies of the Capulets.

I just discovered Yasmine THIS evening 12/4/21!!! I can't believe I've NEVER received the memo! WOW! I'm usually partial to the Russian Mariinsky & Bolshoi Ballerinas. HOWEVER "The Royal Ballet" has some INCREDIBLE talents! I dig their technique! Yasmine N is Just FANTASTIC! She's clean with her movement & CONFIDENT! N.Osipova is FORMIDABLE & a strong jumper. Marienella Nunez is THE Flawless Classic Prima Queen!🙌

Just a different taste in music? I love this but we use the thumbs down button very differently. Some use the thumbs down button as just not my cup of tea, others use it as I find this offensive!
@@JaneDoe-ci3gj lt is kind of wierd to put thumbs down if not their cup i do not like hip hop for example... so i cannot judge if it is bad or good. I dont put thumbs down....
they prefer Russian ballet? Also it's possible that many folks think that RB isn't as good as it were before. Scroll more to the end of the comments of this video then you'll see a comment saying RB male artists are feminine

Some people just like to be negative, but I think it's incredibly disheartening to be negative when these artists work their guts to reach for perfection. Constructive and positive criticism should come from coaches. The rest of us should support or shut up, in my view.

The only ballerinas better than Naghdi, are the prima ballerina assoluta Alessandra Ferri, also of the Royal Ballet and the divine Marianela Munoz. These 3 are divine....

I do not believe that the play that Shakespeare penned (based on other people's work) was perfect. For one thing, it seems like relatives of Juliet, as flawed as their characters were, would have been more suspicious of Juliet's "sudden death" instead of thinking so easily that she was dead when alive. I am an author, and I like to think about if the plots I read make sense or what might have happened instead.

No idea what this means. However, at the risk of being a little negative myself, when I was in the house to see this, I thought the lighting dark at times. Even when it was supposedly day time, then was no skylight visible through the windows. But the costumes are fabulous, both men and women, and it's a beautiful panorama.
