    When I was a kid, in the sixties, this was always my favorite thing in the world to do. My dad and I would load our camping gear into the old Ford station wagon and go out to spend the weekend exploring old FS and logging roads. He knew every track between Marcola and Cottage Grove, and most of them all the way down to Roseburg. He was no stranger to the Coast Range, either. Even now, sixty years later, my favorite and most comforting camping is a night in the Cascade rain forest listening to the rain on the roof. Thanks for the ride along Donald.

    Loved the video Donald, I won’t lie when I saw the title and thumbnail I was excited to see what you found, Sasquatch? A crazy cult in the woods?! Haha I was pleasantly surprised though. The ending shot with the drone over the forest was just perfect.
    We are blessed to live in this part of the world, we have so much around us in less than 20 min drive sometimes. I live further north than you are, towards the Columbia river Gorge and tucked away. It’s bliss. Look forward to the next upload.

    Donald, that's awesome and very funny at the same time. I know exactly where you are and went through the same little dead end roads and ended up camping at the same spot you did. It was my favorite spot out there between them all. Keep getting out and enjoy yourself. Cheers to you

    I also wanted to share a big thank you to you. I purchased one of the Tacticool DIY fire pit kits and love it! I also want to thank you for the 270 awning video where I learned from your viewers about the FSR FreeSpirt 270 awning 37lbs with the square back covering the tailgate. Which we currently have on order. Having waited a year to make this choice. I can see it's really going to make those rainy days not so gloomy.
    Thank you for all the time you put into a mix of content. Your content never gets old! 😊

    This episode reminded me of one of the HGTV shows where they look at multiple houses and make comments on each one and then the big reveal is the one they settle on. This was a neat format and I enjoyed your exploration. I the guy that checks out all of the side roads too.
    We're in NC, so it might be a while before I make it to Oregon, but since we're near the Asheville area, there is a lot close by here as well. You really don't always have to go a long way to find peace.

    I've probably mentioned this before but unexpected water depth can wreak havoc on your differentials, transfer case and/or transmission unless you extend the breather tubes. Mine are up and into the closest wheel arch. Quick to DIY if you are able and willing to lay on your back and work overhead. Real easy if you have access to a lift. I used aquarium air tubing and it is holding up well, all it does is allow air in and out. Best of the Season to you and yours, Donald, I appreciate you and what you do very much.

    20th,
    You have a nice set-up there, small enough to get down tight roads/trails, not excessive gear to weigh you down. But enough gear to keep yourself comfortable. Two thumbs up. And you don't mind getting a few scratches on your rig. We have a few tight trails up here in the U.P of Michigan.

    Hey Donald been here since the forester just had a basket on the roof.
    Me and my wife watch you daily. She's wondering about the way you talk. Do you have a masters in English? Or do you write a script for the narration? Your vocabulary is higher then most. She says your voice and videos like this one are calming and you could definitely write a book with how you speak.

    • @softroadingthewest
      @softroadingthewest  День назад

      Hi Bill, just stumbled across this comment 7 months later...I'm sorry I missed this. In Gaia you can both attach a photo to a waypoint, and write notes. I personally don't have a grading system, and I rarely even use the notes field. I just name the waypoint with a brief description, e.g. "Campsite on creek, visible from road" or "Campsite, just okay" or "Campsite with epic view, very windy" etc. Apologies for the massively delayed reply. :-)

    • @softroadingthewest
      @softroadingthewest  6 месяцев назад +3

      That was hand-made from a blanket, sewn by a friend of mine. It was part of an elaborate joke he and I and a couple other friends of Jason (Primal Outdoors) pulled together. Jason famously wears a hoodie like this which he made out of a blanket, sort of a unique trademark. Several of us showed up at a campout with him wearing emulations of his blanket hoodie...just to mess with him (as he relentlessly messes with us). It ended up being a $#!+-ton of work for Scott who did the actual sewing, but the side benefit we all reaped is that this thing is a pleasure to wear on chilly days and evenings. :-)

    Sad that the forest service or possibly BLM is blocking access.
    As far as I am concerned, if its public land, then the public has the right to it.
    If there is some kind of safety concern, then a bright florescent colored warning sign should be installed.
