How to Propagate Dracaena Cane Plant by Cuttings

  • One of my favorite and most popular house plants is the Dracaena Cane Plant. There are many wonderful different kinds out there, but Propagating them by Cuttings is the same for them all. In this tutorial video I demonstrate how to successful propagate your Cane Plants by simple cuttings.
    The reason I believe it is so important to know how to take cuttings of Dracaena Cane Plants is because these long lived indoor plants will eventually reach heights that are quite tall, outgrowing their space. By taking cuttings you can put them back at a height that you want them to be at, while also multiplying the amount of houseplants in your home. It's a win-win!

      @@tinawindham6958 hi so we had this Drascena that was about 5-6’ tall and kept falling over. We propped it and even tied it up having no idea we could propagate it. We followed Devin’s video instructions and sectioned it into 6 plants. After about 2 months roots began to grow and we planted them. I gave one to my son and two of them to my sisters. They have always been indoors and before this the plant was a bit ignored but thankfully didn’t die! They like to stay moist. I bought a soil tester moisture meter and it is the best tool. Takes all the guess work out of how much to water your plants. Hopes this helps!

We were super excited when we saw your video and decided to cut the plant down and propagate the cane in 12 sections. I just got my second draceana (yes I know my spelling sucks) but I think mine is the lucky totem pole species because I have two tall and wide woody trunks with the beautiful green striped leaves on top. My question to you is, this plant is a slow grower correct? so, should I propagate it to encourage new growth? Also, how can we get the most of the leaves? Meaning, If I would like my plant to have bushels of leaves on top, should I trim some of the shoots back to stimulate two more? I would love to have some care tips including all of this.

One stalk is rotting from the top (papery skin) the new buds have withered. The 2 other stalks are still strong with 2 healthy crowns on the tallest stalk I'm going to salvage what I can .I plan to cut the trunk in half and cut down the rotting stalk and wax the remaining stump (of the stalk) its rather extreme but I do want to salvage I'll cut& propagate the remaining crowns very inspiring video...

I put it in some potting soil and left enough green on it for photosynthesis, but I also got rid of some drooping leaves so new ones can pop out you know anything that was seriously bent over is now gone so hopefully it’ll look spiky again and what do you think about that? I have a dracaena/ pathos plant I purchased in April 2022. And now it's having a problem. It has leaves that keep turning brown on the tips yellow in the middle and even brown spots. I am careful to not over water it. I pretty much water once a week sometimes with ice cubes. I have trimmed the leaves. One of the stocks that comes off the top part of the trunk is very Brown at the root part coming off the stalk. It feels soft and I'm wondering if that's why the leaves are turning. Or is it some kind of insect that is causing that. I'm new to this plant. But I really want to be able to nurture it and heal it. What are your suggestions. Right now I have it in the living room not too close to the window on the east side. To try to help it to regain itself. Before I had it in the kitchen with just the kitchen lights on. So I'm just trying to find the right place for it.

      Also plant is about 3 ft tall with two shoots off the top of the trunk.

    • @plantvibrations
      @plantvibrations  2 года назад +1

      Definitely no more ice cubes, those aren’t helpful. If it’s getting mushy then that’s normally a sign of rot of pest. Inspect very carefully to see any signs of pests. I’d recommend cutting the entire section off that is getting soft. If you do that, then place ground cinnamon on the cut section to help it heal

    • @angelnaphtalieVlog
      @angelnaphtalieVlog 2 года назад +1

      @@plantvibrations thankyou. I only used the icecubes twice. Didn't really like the idea. I did cut the one shoot off the top on one side. My instincts told me after watching your video, that it would be all right and it was rotten, it smelled funny. I didn't put the cinnamon on yet, cuz I didn't know about it till now, but I just cut it yesterday, and put it in a quiet spot in the bathroom, and played plant music most of the day. I will check on it in a little while and put the cinnamon on. Will keep you posted. Thank you so much.
