So informative. I will give it a try.. I am trying to propagate the corn plant for my son and daughter in law. I do propane various types of plants but have never done Corn plant. Thanks for the information. Happy to find new plant friends!
Light is inhibitory for roots (direct or indirect, even fluorescent). Your experiment proves this. Roots do better in a shaded or darker bottle than clear bottle. The leaves need the light, but the roots need the dark. Great video on propagation.
I was really hesitant to attempt to propagate my dracaena but your video gave me confidence. You’re really knowledgeable and I like how you did the different experiments and shared the results. And you seem like a super nice person. Thank you!
i have never propagated but I will. I just keep moving mine to bigger pots. However I have had them seed in pots. When they get root bound the plant will create the best smelling flower . It only blooms at night and has the best smell that will make your whole house smell wonderful.
Awesome stuff. I love the way you explain everything. Just got into keeping and looking after houseplants. Never knew what went into it. 🤦♂️. I’m learning. Wishing everyone the best. ❤️
Thank you for the Arabic translation! I was surprised and happy to know you live in Saudia. I'm from Saudia and it is hard for me to maintain my plants. Thank you so much for the video. I'll keep coming to your channel for advice!
Thank you for specifying right at the beginning that this method will work with all plants in the family! I'm not sure what type of cutting I have and you just saved me a bit of extra research!
You do the best video tutorial on these plants. I live in Florida and they grow everywhere here. Now I can propigate some to add to my new garden. Thank you. I also love how you imagine they are falling in love. I am a stickler for planting 2 or more of every plant, flower, tree or bush. Do not want them lonely.💞😉
Yes, I loved that advice. I never knew. Glad you've been practicing such planting thoughtfulness. I've got 6 single bushes regularly spaced out along the exterior of my garden wall. They will all get companion potted flowering plants in their shadows this week!
Awesome video and very informative! I'll be subscribing for sure! It's very impressive how great your plants look with such extreme temperatures outside!
Hello, thank you so much for this informative video. I have a Dracaena Massangeana (bought 2 years ago in ikea 🙂). I really love it but since 2 months, all the leaves turned brown. I didn't believe it was worth trying, but now I will definitely try to cut and propagate some sprouts from the main cane. Then maybe the main cane will produce new sprouts next spring. When there's green, there's always life 🙂
Thank you so much for this video! I have two corn plants that need this treatment. One is about 5 ft tall! I have always been too afraid to do anything to it since I've had them for 20 years and I didn't want them to die. I'm putting the first cut in the water now. Wish me luck 🤞
Tap water may contain salts if you're living in the city where water is treated. In the country however, well water can be pure spring water running through a household tap and safe to use for rooting plants. Nice tutorial.
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I've got a 4 year old Dracaena that grew beautifully it's first year, but hasn't grown at all the last 3. The first year I kept it in a 6' × 4' east facing window of my living room. That window looks out onto a broad covered porch so the dracaena received no direct sunlight something which I imagined would benefit the tropical plant. So I moved it into a south facing farmhouse (half French single) door that opens onto an uncovered patio. So now the plant sits in front of the in-swinging door - which I stained dark cherry & added shiny brass hardware to. The dracaena makes a beautiful focal piece there inside the all glass storm door but now I understand why it hasn't grown and its leaves curl inwards. It's overheating, sunburnt, & overdosing on salt & who knows what else from the tap water & random fertilizer treatments I've been poisoning it with unwittingly. Thanks again for the information. (I think you saved my dracenia's life.)
Hi. I love your information video. Pls I'm. eager to see your other video that shows the different care methods and tips on how you take care of them & maintain them. Thanks❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this! I love my big dracaena plants, but learning how to take care of them properly has taken time. My second big corn plant is currently failing-its stems are shriveling, which suggests it's no longer able to move water up to the leaves. I think that's from watering it too much in the wintertime :(. I have time to propagate it from its gorgeous top leaves, though!
As dracaenas gostam de água mineral. Não gostam da água da torneira porque tem cloro e ferro e isso queima as folhas. Excelente video. Abraço desde Portugal
I love this, I will try to propagate to save my plant. I have a dracaena as a gift from a very dear person and it seems to be dying slowly. The leaves are turning brown. I live in Dubai maybe the water is similar to Saudi. I will stop using tap water now. Would it be good to repot the plant and change the soil?
thanks a lot I. planted stem cuttings then. it has 2-3 shoots. and been wondering whether I. will. plant. the. entire. shoots.. now I know what. to. do. from the stem. I. will remove the shoots then plant it separately on. soil or in water to produce roots right?
I'm a new subscriber and loving your videos already. If, after 18 days there is no root growth in water, what is best to change? It is in water in a small plastic bottle. I will now use filtered water instead of tap water. I'm in London so I'm trying to keep it warm inside! I really want it to survive!! Thanks
So are the bottoms of your cuttings diagonal? or does it even matter? I've had Dracaenas forever (corn plants, marginata and snake plants... didn't know snake plants were part of the family) and the only one I've ever propagated was snake plants because they are just too easy. Looking forward to seeing how mine turn out, thanks for the video
Hi I really enjoyed your video, it was very informative! I have a dumb cane and the leaves started coming out brown so it was not really growing. I then noticed that the cane itself is soft and hollow feeling, the other cane that’s in the same pot is hard all the way through. I believe the soft cane in dead, so what should I do? Should I remove it? I think I was watering at the base of the plant causing root rout. You’re advise will be great full, I really don’t want to loose the plant.
Hi, guest i am from Indonesia, i have many many this Dracaena Fragrans, in my vilage SUKABUMI this plant used as land border or fans (it is very easy to grow and very cheap) how to export to your country?
Is it possible that the blocking of direct light helped the roots to grow? Roots do usually grow in the dirt, where it is dark. Idk if this is a stupid guess lol
Until it has roots, the water will turn polluted, so should be changed often. After it has roots, it can go over a week without change. My sister has cordyline with roots in water, and never changes it. She just tops it off. I believe that it has been over a year. Dracena, might be the same.
Hi can you tell me if a cane will grow new shoots if it doesn’t have any? I bought a large plant with three trunks one trunk had no shoots so I’d like to get it to grow some. There’s healthy roots and it’s a healthy trunk otherwise. Please let me know if you have had any experience please.
My large dracaena mass cane fell off my table because it started to lean the last couple days and I didn't tend to it. It basically fell head first and it broke the biggest shoot of beautiful leaves almost completly off. Kind of like when you try and rip a branch off a tree but it's barely stuck on the bark and a little more, but you can't rip it off its too strong. I cut it off and I put it into seeding soil with honey as a hormone for the cutting. It I see the plant start to do poorly in the next few days then I will remove it from the seed starting soil and put in water until strong roots develop
I have a huge dracaena that really needed to be cut down and propagated. We cut it into 12 clippings. Most are starting to root and we can see little nodes starting to push out on cane. We are also seeing some mold forming on the top of the cut cane (not the end in the water). Do you have any advise on how to remove and stop any additional mold growth?
So informative, thanks! This is such a beautiful plant! Those roots are amazing. Happily subscribing, happy to find new plant friends!
Many thanks for watching 😊
So informative. I will give it a try.. I am trying to propagate the corn plant for my son and daughter in law. I do propane various types of plants but have never done Corn plant. Thanks for the information. Happy to find new plant friends!
Nirmal Seth good luck!
Love the idea of two props falling in love while inside the same container. Thank you so much!
Thanks from Maryland, USA. You video is so pleasant to watch. I now have confidence to try propagating my two spindly, sad dracenas.
Light is inhibitory for roots (direct or indirect, even fluorescent). Your experiment proves this. Roots do better in a shaded or darker bottle than clear bottle. The leaves need the light, but the roots need the dark. Great video on propagation.

Thank you! My dracena was slowly dying and I propogated it in hopes of saving it but I couldn't find a video anywhere that helped with what I needed.
Same! I propagated as a last ditch effort to save it after my cat ripped it out of the soil 😅😩. It rooted incredibly but I don’t want to mess up
@@thesoundsofearth4454 hiya, did you use a clear vase for the propagation or a non transparent one? Thanks!
Thank you for this very helpful and comprehensive video! My dracaena had root rot and I've just propagated a small stem in hopes of saving it.
i have never propagated but I will. I just keep moving mine to bigger pots. However I have had them seed in pots. When they get root bound the plant will create the best smelling flower . It only blooms at night and has the best smell that will make your whole house smell wonderful.
I have a corn plant and it’s gotten so big! I’ve been wanting to propagate and now I have the confidence to do it. Thank you!!!
Awesome stuff. I love the way you explain everything. Just got into keeping and looking after houseplants. Never knew what went into it. 🤦♂️. I’m learning. Wishing everyone the best. ❤️

Your video is beautiful and so are you. Thank-you from Canada. :)
Thanks so much love the video! Your plants look beautiful and happy! I just got a huge draecena cutting today and this was very helpful!
Thank you for specifying right at the beginning that this method will work with all plants in the family! I'm not sure what type of cutting I have and you just saved me a bit of extra research!
It made me feel so happy when you said the roots from the two shoots in the nontransparent vase might have fallen in love lol
So informative and well explained! Thank you so much
I love that you said the roots fall in love together haha. Thats cute

Awesome way to propagate. You explained very well easy to connect.
Love the follow up results!!! Great video
Awesome video and very informative! I'll be subscribing for sure! It's very impressive how great your plants look with such extreme temperatures outside!
Awesome! Thank you! Exactly what I needed to know ❤
Hello. Thank you for this video.i have a big dracaena. Now I can propagate 🙏
Both your Dracaena are beautiful... Now am going to get these two varieties as well...
You are amazing! Such a joyful video!
Thanks so much for the video, I agree with that dracaena are one of the most beutiful house plant.
So beautiful and informative video. Thank you for creating this video and sharing.
Legit thank you, you also gave me the confidence to give it a try. Our mother plant for us is 12 years old

Very informative , thanks.
Thanks for informative vid. You got new subscriber
Very informative and new friend here.
Masha Allah.. Nice share 👍
Great video!
Thank you for the information! Great video.
Excellent 👌🏻👍🏻 explanations.....
Thx for arabic translate. So useful info💜💜🇸🇦
Thanks for your super-helpful video. By chance have you compared propagating in soil versus water and which works better?
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I've got a 4 year old Dracaena that grew beautifully it's first year, but hasn't grown at all the last 3. Just what I wanted to know thank u!!
Thank you for such informative content!
Fantastic many thanks for your help. 😊
Thank you for the great tips!
When propagating, do you wait for the cut end to dry out before putting in water or soil?
that was very very informative thank you very much. I will try it now
Thank you so much for this! I love my big dracaena plants, but learning how to take care of them properly has taken time. If you repot in new, dry soil and refrain from watering….it’ll recover.
Very very informative video dear 😊💐
New Subscriber 😁🌱.
How often do you change water? Do you add any supplement to the water?
Good informative 👍👍
Awesome ❤If you put the cutting in soil should you let it callous first? thanks ❤
As dracaenas gostam de água mineral. Não gostam da água da torneira porque tem cloro e ferro e isso queima as folhas. Excelente video. Abraço desde Portugal
Thank you for the information. Can i keep the Dracaenas in water in a pretty bottle as decoration? Or do i need to plant it in soil?
Thank you for sharing 🥳
Very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you you helped so much!
Thanks
Great vid
You have beautiful draceana. How do make their leaves so shiny?
I love this, I will try to propagate to save my plant. I have a dracaena as a gift from a very dear person and it seems to be dying slowly. The leaves are turning brown. I live in Dubai maybe the water is similar to Saudi. I will stop using tap water now. Would it be good to repot the plant and change the soil?
Sometimes it's usually because there is too much water
As drabmaker said, dracarna doesnt need to much water and falling leaves are usually due to that
thx for sharing this helpful video. ...many brown spots on leaves appear and don't know what to do ..plz, any tips
It could be due to lack of potassium, pls fertilize
what did u do with mother draceana ? did u block the nod with candle wax or no ? plz guide us
thanks a lot

Hi ,clean the cane well, let it dry,and melt some wax and cover the area when wax is not so hot. Keep an eye always
so you CAN cut the shoots off of the main trunk then?
Good info, joined
