Starts up with an explosion. And they're using a crossplane crank in the V8, plus N/A, no turbo's. This is probably gonna be one of the best sounding cars of the season!
@@svtinker The press-release says it'll be "an all-new 5.5L DOHC V-8 that will be paired to the LMDh common hybrid system." But I guess it's most likely based on the LT6, albeit very modified. Even with a crossplane crank, it still revs high, judging by some other vids I've seen.
With auto manufacturers phasing out petrol & transitioning to electric, it’s truly a blessing that racing engines like this are still being produced. What a mad, beautiful thing.
Some automakers are not going to transition as of current plans. Toyota is one of them. I think this is because electric cars will have a smaller market share than people are predicting, due to cost and practicality reasons specifically
It's a hybrid we could have stuff like this but you people would not buy it the low end torque EV's provide is something an engine cannot compete but the motor drops of as it revs the engine picks up and shoots of from there the ultimate package

On my bucket list to hear this in person. I can’t tell you how many times I come to RUclips every few months to hear this sound over and over. Just…. Endorphins, man.
The all electric part is a big part of how this race this car operates, so get used to it, as the other manufacturers are also running them like this. Get over you EV insecurity for fucks sake it is just a more efficient propulsion system for a car, and race cars. Don't be one of this right wing idiots
Would be nice if more hybrids had this. Start on electricity, transition to petrol. A car's efficiency is at its worse when accelerating (aside from just idling, of course), so the battery can take the brunt of the startup so the petrol engine can provide relatively efficient cruising power when the car's up to speed. Some hybrid diesel city buses work like this too. Granted, there are somewhat different reasons for starting on electric only for race cars like these, and I suppose everything I wrote above is invalid when pure electric cars are brought into the equation, since they are over 70% efficient compared to the 30% or less for pure petrol cars
Most hybrids I know in their default settings do accelerate to 20 km/h (if battery is very low) or more in electric mode. Unless you press the throttle to much and it just becomes electric assist. But like you said I think hybrids will quickly disappear at the rate that electric vehicles develop. Also with all the prototype race cars starting in electric I think is because for weight savings the engines don’t have a starter motor and the way they start is similar to bump starting a car with a dead battery
EVs and Hybrids are generally self-defeating concepts for replacing ICE. For EVs, they are 70% efficient at transferring energy to the wheel, but have to equip a big battery in order to bump up the power making them as 1/3rd heavier than relative to their ICE counterparts, which reduces efficiency and not to mention being 2/3rds more expensive. You need AWD to make their Motor Torque even usable, and wheel torque is a whole lot less than traditional ice due to packaging and gearing limitations, Hence why Teslas use AWD and 6:1 Final Drive Ratios to break acceleration records and have no top speed in exchange. For Hybrids, the only advantage for them is they can add more power without being hampered by EPA and other nonesensical government mandates, same reason why EVs can get away with pushing over 1000+ hp while mathematically being less efficient than gas at consuming fuel at that power level. Hybrids just add weight, more weight and more weight, A car with V10 would weigh significantly less than a Hybrid V4 or V6 due to how big the batteries still need to be, which won't be getting any smaller soon due to physics. Add to the fact that EV tech manufacturing is unsustainable, most electrical energy is from Gas and oil, impossibility of the grids to handle such cars and more, you begin realizing it doesn't even solve the problem with these vehicles in the first place. But back to racing. In Extreme case scenarios, ICE just wins, less weight, more reliable, far more tunable and has less causes of failure in spite of having more moving parts.
I love this car. Although Porsche are my favorites, I hope Cadillac does well too. Their concept is pretty neat and so far the results are not too bad. Definitely a wild ride. I just wish they could enter F1 too, but I know that teams like Mercedes, McLaren etc would be against it :/
