I agree with you on the turkey. I was never a fan growing up. My parents always cooked smoked ham on Thanksgiving. I can count how many times they added a turkey to our Thanksgiving dinners. This Thanksgiving we had jerk pork. My husband is from Jamaica so we decided to do something a little different this year.
@@FutureNeighbor Sorry, I didn't see this till now. I didn't get notified you responded for some reason... Size of the tteokbokki I use honestly depends on what's available fresh at the market when I go, I find the smaller ones are easier to toss about in the pan but the fatter ones are so delightful to chew! I've made a version of this with chicken and extra mushrooms before too! ...I have an ~extra special~ tteokbokki I invented as well. Can you say tuna melt tteokbokki in a spicy butternut squash base? I know you can! :) ...your uploads have a very fond place in my happy place, nothing is more lovely than seeing other home cooks do what they do.
Thank you Future Neighbor! Just stumbled upon your channel as I’m a new English teaching living here (also first time moving out of parents house) the tteokbokki turned out great and I’m so excited to keep cooking korean food using your channel :) love how simple the recipes are
I so agree with you about turkey, it just kinda sucks. This year we did a stuffed pork rack which was 100x better, but usually we do Peking duck instead 🙃.
@@FutureNeighbor We don't make the Peking duck ourselves 😅. We buy it in Chinatown morning of and crisp it in the oven until ready to eat. Nobody seems to mind that I didn't cook it ☺️.
Nice seeing more tteokbokki recipes :D! My Asian grocer has these frozen and fresh, so I'm glad you made this video! It'll be a good excuse to buy the rice cakes ;P.
Lol I guess I was born 100 years old cause I could never take spice haha 😂 You are a lifesaver for posting this recipe. I have a bag of tteok in the fridge that I don't know what to do with cause all I know is the spicy version. Imma definitely try this mild version with shiitake mushrooms. I have sesame oil as well. Perfect 😀 Thanks Dan! Happy thanksgiving.
So simple to make and looks soo yummy Dan-yul!.. I'm going to pick up these ingredients and definitely giving this receipe a try..Thanks for another great one...keep them coming 👍
Looks sooooo yummy ! can't wait to try it !!!! I'm not too fond of green peppers, do you recommend ditching it all together or can I use something else ? thank yooou ! 🤗
This sounds amazing. If I can’t handle the spice but crave the texture I usually boil them in miso soup, I hope I am not offending someone with this mix. 😉
Yum..I am making this for my lunch today . You so funny , I told my son in Singapore about the turkey , he said the same: I am not missing at all !!! :(((
Hehe maybe that is why people always say that the gravy or the stuffing are their favourite part of thanksgiving dinner. Nobody really likes turkey...they just tolerate it 😂
Lol about the turkey 😂 Idk what it is, but it seems like most immigrant families don't care for turkey at Thanksgiving. They'll make it just to have it, but no one really cares for it :p I enjoy my turkey...but like on the first dinner, and with plenty of gravy and potatoes. Dealing with leftovers is just dry and downhill haha
All I can get where I live is frozen tteokbokki. I dropped it in boiling water from frozen, cooked it for about 5 min and it was still hard and chewy in the middle. Should I thaw it first?
OMG this looks amazing, i just can't keep up with all this delicious food which i need to try. I gained almost 10kgs this year, and i need to do something about it, but i can't cut on this amazing stuff.
while it was yummy, the sauce was too sweet for my taste so I recommend to anyone who is similiar to go with half the sugar in the recipe and see if there's needed more 😂
Dan-yul, regarding turkey: you know, it used to be absolutely delicious. But, like most animals here in the USA, they've been bred to make them lower in fat, and bigger breast. The result is tasteless, boring poultry and pork, sadly. Food used to taste good here. Not anymore. Fruit and veg look perfect, and have zero flavor, and virtually no nutrition. Ugh..
Thank you soo much for this recipe…I made it tonight 5/2022 for my fam….they loved it and we are keeping it on our regular menu☺️ Thanks again❣️

Oh jerk pork... that sounds delicious! Save us a seat at your table!
My husband loves this variety of tteokbokki, I make it at least once almost weekly!
Oh nice!! Do you use this small thin tteok or do use the fatter ones?

I saw this in Splash Splash Love. It was served to the King. Omg! Hehehe.
U aren't getting old, Daniel, your palate is maturing. ☺️
Indeed 🙃
Life would be so much harder without You guys, always giving me ideas for dinner. 진짜 감사합니다~
I so agree with you about turkey, it just kinda sucks. This year we did a stuffed pork rack which was 100x better, but usually we do Peking duck instead 🙃.
Wow...even Peking duck?! I would like to learn how to do it properly too...
@@FutureNeighbor We don't make the Peking duck ourselves 😅. We buy it in Chinatown morning of and crisp it in the oven until ready to eat. Nobody seems to mind that I didn't cook it ☺️.
I love spicy tteobokki, but this looks delicious too! I will have to make it soon. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for giving vegetation options!!
Another good recipe Dan-yul! Gonna try to make this coz I'm curious about a non spicy tteokbokki. Love from the Philippines!
Another delicious recipe! Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing. I made it coz my sister recommended it. It was really tasty!!!♡
Congrats on reaching 100k!! Here's to many more! :D
My husband and I have both made this dish and it's freaking delicious!!! Our seven-year-old daughter loves it too!!!

Happy Thanksgiving from USA
Looks delicious!! I just bought a frozen pack of normal tteokbokki as well but can't wait to try this out soon!! X
Your treats are tasting extra good this morning... in this snowy weather 🌨🤓🙃
@@FutureNeighbor haha!! I am also having that fruit bread this morning, although it's just raining here!! Have a good day!

I'm really glad you did this recipe.
That looks so good.
I need to try this! Looks so delicious
Yayyy! You two finally fulfilled my request! :)
Made this about a year ago...it’s a real toss up which version I like more...depends on my mood...good recipe
Making it tonight ! Thanks Daniel!!!!!
Bon Appetit Shaun!
I loooove your recipes
Oh I’m so happy when there’s non spicy Korean dishes as I can’t tolerate anything spicy much. Thank you for the recipe!
Wish I could have it now
Omomo, the first to comment!! It looks so great! Thanks for your recipe, as always ^__^
I like the fact that you used the phrase "omomo" haha
Omo!!! You are right:)!! I cooked this dish a while ago and wow I must say! I liked thi better than the spicy version kkkk thank you so much!!!! 😍😍😍
He is right about korean girls and ddukbokie!
you posted this on my birthday
I prefer this tteokbokki, but my kids like the spicy one. Thanks for the recipe
We wanted to see you taste it!
If I were to use button mushrooms instead of beef, would you suggest chopping them or using them whole? Thank you!
Looks sooooo yummy ! can't wait to try it !!!! I'm not too fond of green peppers, do you recommend ditching it all together or can I use something else ? thank yooou ! 🤗
Ditch em' ... hehe it'll still taste great!
I just made this 😉 I did some things wrong, but so tasty!
This sounds amazing. If I can’t handle the spice but crave the texture I usually boil them in miso soup, I hope I am not offending someone with this mix. 😉
Could I leave out the oyster sauce or is it essential?
Do you think this dish would still work if I halved the amount of sugar? Or does it need it to balance out the flavours?
I like turkey... once a year at Thanksgiving haha other than that I'll just eat it in a sandwich maybe. Love this dish tho.😂😍
delicious..❤😍
How many servings is that please??
This looks like a NONspicy tteok recipe I’d like to try! Finally.
BTW, does anyone know artist and title of the song playing at 0:29 to 0:49?
Yum..I am making this for my lunch today . You so funny , I told my son in Singapore about the turkey , he said the same: I am not missing at all !!! :(((
how many rice cakes??
Que rico
Looks awesome!! Hi Daniel, Are iron frying pans commonly seen around Korea?
Cast-irons are not so popular in Korea.I brought this one at Costco and brought it back in my luggage haha
@@FutureNeighbor Very smart. I use mine for almost everything.
dude hell yeah
Roger that Tamakun!!
Can I use olive oil instead of sesame oil?:)
Hi IzuTv! No no, sesame oil has a very unique nutty flavor + aroma. Very different from olive oil
Thank you so much^^!!! Good thing I found cheap sesame oil here in the middle east. I’m excited to cook^^!
I’m in the US and I never make Turkey either for Thanksgiving 😬
Preach. Who even actually likes turkey? I made lobster for Friendsgiving and nobody missed the turkey.
Oh... i think everybody will opt-in for a lobster swap out!!
Hehe maybe that is why people always say that the gravy or the stuffing are their favourite part of thanksgiving dinner. Nobody really likes turkey...they just tolerate it 😂

looks soooo yummy!! give me please :)
OMG Yass 💎
So that's how to get korean girls. Gotta try that
yeah my man dropped the information on us lol

Anna Inspain probably. I used microwave to thaw it. It gets soften by microwave much faster than in boiling water
@@emmawu2261 Cheers Emma!
Yes, I think the best way is to let them completely thaw at room temperature. And then drop them in boiling water for a minute.
If any of all the guys I know makes me tteokbokki or even just a boiled egg, I'd be not on a second date but in a hospital for food poisoning 😏🥘
hahahha....what's up with those dudes.... they better step up!
🥘🥘🥘🥘🥘🥘
OMG this looks amazing, i just can't keep up with all this delicious food which i need to try. I gained almost 10kgs this year, and i need to do something about it, but i can't cut on this amazing stuff.
The best part of Thanksgiving is definitely not the turkey, it's everything else and if you're with my family it's the ham.
I do enjoy a proper stuffing though... and some mac n' cheese... and of course throwing shade at family members!! 😎
lol who's the 1 twat that thumbs down? lol i'm kidding. you have the right. but dont forget, this is was once a Korean King's favorite dish.
This has become a common shanghai/ Hongkong food after we Korean refugees came to those areas when the Japanese invaded 😞
while it was yummy, the sauce was too sweet for my taste so I recommend to anyone who is similiar to go with half the sugar in the recipe and see if there's needed more 😂
