I LOVE rice cakes and spicy Tteokbokki, so I knew I had to try this. I made it tonight for my family. I had to make a few substitutions. I couldnt find the stick shaped rice cakes, so I used the oval sliced ones usually for soup instead. I also used boneless pork rib meat instead of beef brisket. Everything else I did exactly like you said. My husband said it was one of the best things he's ever eaten and asked if I would start making it regularly. My daughter got sad when we ran out and asked if I would cook more rice cakes for her to snack on!😂 We loved it so much!! I've never seen my family go so crazy for a meal before! Thank you so much for sharing your delicious recipes with the world! This is the 5th recipe I've made of yours and they are always DELICIOUS!
Hi Ms. Maangchi, last Saturday I've entered a cooking competition called "Global Taste of Korea" in the Philippines. I did Gungjung Tteokbokki as my entry. The judges asked me where did I learn how to cook it and I said I've learned it from you and they know you. 😊 Two of the judges are Miss Lily Min and Madam Lee Jong Min (if I'm not mistaken). Unfortunately, I did not win out of 30 contestants, but I had a great experience. I'll will learn more about Hansik and I will make you as an inspiration. Next year, I'll try to join the competition again. Thank you for sharing your videos. 😁 Please cheer for me. 😆
wow that was just amaizing its like watching art come alive....its so beautiful how the KOREAN dishes are. I usually don't put much thought in what i make, but ill definately try this recipe its at the top of my list. thank you.
I am a 14 year old boy. I love cooking and watching your videos. My neighbor who I knew almost my whole life is from Jeju Island. And her niece near Kaeseung(Gimpo) I make your recipes and bring to her to make her feel at home.P.S.How do you spell Arirang, and Dasi Mannapsida in Korean?
I love your videos! This Thanksgiving (mid-October), I am planning a Thanksgiving dinner for my family with my siblings and we are making 7 different Korean dishes, all from your recipes!
Thank you for the recipe. My son can't eat spicy food and always wanted to try rice cakes due to his sister's enjoyment when she's devouring them. Will def. try this out for my son.
I just made this tonight for dinner. I absolutely loved it! My sister-in-law, who is a little picky with the things she eats and is fairly new to many cuisines, loved it as well. She even liked the rice cakes! I'll definitely make this again, and I can't wait to try the spicy ddeokbokki next time.
I always come back to this video to make sure I don’t miss any steps. I’ve watched it so many times that I actually remember everything extra, outside of the directions, that she says 😂
this recipe reminds me of the pepper flavour wu-dong noodle, which it is actually popular among the chinese community (Have you tried it before?). Can't wait to start doing my own homemake rice cake!!! Maangchi, you really introduce a lot of good korean cuisines to us!!! Appreciate!!!
Made this tonight, with chicken, instead of beef, since it's all I currently have. I also used the infused oil from the buju japchae recipe to give this dish some heat, since I always like a little bit of spice. In the words of Maangchi, "OH MY!!!" This is absolutely delicious, I'm about to eat all of it.
I need some help, am planning on using some leftover 잡곡밥 and want to make kimchi fried rice, would it work? Also my mother in law cant handle heat so am making some 궁중떡볶이 for her and am craving 된장찌개 is this a good combination for dinner or should I change or postpone cooking something for another day? am making dinner in a couple of hours if you can get back to me as soon as you can that would be great
Check out the photo of mulyeot or ssalyeot (corn syrup or rice syrup) in the ingredient section on my website please. You can print it out and take it to the store. They will know once you show it to them.
It's so wonderful! I love your recipes and had made lots of delicious dishes after them, and today I've finally bought the rice cakes and I'm gonna make gungjung-ddeokbokki! Thank you very much!
I also cook. I tried your spicy ddeokbokki and I love it. It's simple and delicious. I served it to my college classmate and she said "its delicious". By the way I did not use dried anchovies I changed the anchovies to korean fish cake. For me, it tastes better. Post more recipes thanks.
I like the new filming style! You should have two types of shots filmed simultaneously; Macro close-ups and then mid shots. This would make it look even better! Love it. Keep up the great vids.
Maangchi Thank you for the comment maangchi~ We’ve been trying a lot of your recipes during this quarantine season! It’s so yummy 😋 I wish I could show you hehe
Maangchi, this recipe looks so delicious. I think I may try to cook this for my boyfriend on our 3 year anniversary! Thank you for your amazing videos!

This looks very yummy and I would love to make it, especially because I can't eat spicy. But I don't eat meat, could I make it with fried tofu instead?

Hi Maangchi! I love your cooking. I'm wondering what brand and type of knife you are using when you chop your vegetables. Thanks for the tutorials and maybe I can master chopping like you someday. I just need a new knife that is good and sharp like yours.
Hello maangchi... I just wanted to say I love your channel and recipe's. Hi Maangchi, this looks delicious! Do I have to precook the rice cakes in boiling water first before stir frying them with soy sauce? Thank you!
If they are frozen you can just thaw them out. If fresh you can use them right away.
