I don't know about you, guys... But for me, Living Colour is one of those perfect bands. It has everything: a very unique guitar player, a very skilled bassist (even the new one), a powerful voice that hasn't got lost over the years and a monster at drums.
They’re a great band but I just find Vernon Reid goes over the top with his solos; sort of like Tom Morello. They’re both great guitarists but I find I enjoy Vernon’s playing is better when he’s just straight up playing instead of trying to make the guitar make strange sounds.
Tough Band , I wish my fellow Black American brothers and sisters would listen to good music that's not Status Quo Radio at the time ! as George Clinton said ," Think It's Not Illegal Yet" !!!
opened for the Stones Steel Wheels tour. Made it to Minneapolis. Went there to see Living Colour as much as I was there for the Stones. What a night and weekend.
It is the year 2017 and i get to see these guys play for free tomorrow. I am 40, and have loved these guys since I was probably 10 years old. I can't even tell you how excited I am
First time I saw them was a free show in mid 80's at Clowes Hall at Butler Univ in Indianapolis. It was the first rock concert ever played at that venue.
Living colour was soooooo way far advanced for their time. Their music is great, even nowadays, you can still feel that the music they´ve made can be compared with music from the present.
@Chuichupachichi My favorite is the ride cymbal and hi-hat work during the chorus and bridge. Ever since I heard that type of stuff, I've been using it my own drum work. The whole band is just so damn talented.
Consistently best videos on MTV of that era, no “dumbest common denominator” disposable pop crap. Always thought provoking, thinking man’s band w a plan. Only saw then once but it was killer. March 91’ SLC, we didn’t know an opening act would play, some freak w shaved head and braids, leather cap, just making sweet, tripper love to that bass, weird nasally voice opened with Frizzle Fry, we looked at each other like “WTF?” Our intro to Les and Primus. They struggled to compete w headliner living Colour, but fun night. LC such an incredible live band, Will drums, Muzz back then, bass, Vernon and soul and depth of Corey, I never wanted it to end. Met them briefly after, humble, hardworking dudes, I wanted to follow them across the country. Vivid is on my top 10 desert island list, hell, maybe times up too. Many good albums since as well.
Just really good, straight up Rock n Roll. This song shows off the rhythm section & with Vernon Reid's bad ass riff & guitar work, its still one of the coolest Rock songs ever. Of course, you can never go wrong with Black vocals
Living Colour is without a doubt one of the best bands of all time...damn did they make a bad song? I think I bought every album they produced 20+ years ago and after not hearing them for 10+ years I started thinking about them and pulled this up. So many awesome song!!!
Love me some LC. I saw Cult of Personality on MT2 when I was a teenager (only about 10 years ago) and I was hooked. I got to see them live cause they'd gotten back together. Awesome band.
I would love to see Vernon Reid and Jesse Johnson (the time) do a twin guitar song. Back in 1988, they were really bringing kick ass guitar to funky songs.
I recently did a bit of a deep dive into Living Colour recently as I realized that "Cult Of Personality" was the only song I'd heard from them(which I remembered before I found out the CM Punk connection). I listened to probably half a dozen other LC songs & this was by far my favorite one. I feel like it's almost a personal anthem for a lot of us, myself included.
"I'm just a stranger in a strange land", it sounds like the life we're all going through at the minute with all the changes and breakdowns that are going on in our societies. Never has a truer phrase been spoken huh?.
@doabaudio living color was considered grunge, they were one of the first african american bands to emerge in the 80;s and they didnt care what everybody else said, they showed that everyone can rock hard, and thats just what they did.
One of my regrets i was in NY with new music seminar in 1988 i could of seen them at cbgb's instead i went to irving plaza to see a couple of punk bands that i don't remember
It's funny, I had this on the turntable just a couple days ago after hearing that Calhoun had walked-in off the street and donated $650 to WBAI during their pledge drive. One of the best jams in the entire Living Coulour catalog.
I'm going to create a new law: Javier's Law of Band Ratings: whenever people are discussing a band, someone will inevitably say that the band is "underrated."
Vernon Reid is a TRUE guitar hero.
I call him the wizard. 🙂
Absolutely what a killer riff mate
I don't know about you, guys... But for me, Living Colour is one of those perfect bands. It has everything: a very unique guitar player, a very skilled bassist (even the new one), a powerful voice that hasn't got lost over the years and a monster at drums.
Another one that fits that bill: the mighty Mother's Finest.
They're basically a super group. The musicianship is top quality.
Totally Agree with you, PJ RM
They’re a great band but I just find Vernon Reid goes over the top with his solos; sort of like Tom Morello. They’re both great guitarists but I find I enjoy Vernon’s playing is better when he’s just straight up playing instead of trying to make the guitar make strange sounds.
Sooo polished💘⛅️💕💕💕💕
Rediscovering The Genius Of Living Colour in September 2024. ❤🎉😊
The album "Vivid" has to be one of THE most complete and lasting music albums ever made, PERIOD!
My favorite heavy metal album.
Yes! One of the best ever. The creativity is unparalleled.
Except for Glamour Boys 😁
Såg dem på grönan!
@@beorlingo då var vi där samtidigt. Vilken konsert, ser så löjligt enkelt ut 😂
The lead singer was in the movie Platoon.
One of the Greatest HARD ROCK bands that came out of the 80's & 90's ! These guys sound as good and as fresh as they did 30 years ago!
Living colours one of the best band ever
underrated
Sin dudas ❤.
Oh... and a completely awesome show!
That is still such a killer song, almost 35 years later.
Love this band so much! Even more than when I first heard them way back in the 90's. Their music seems to have aged beautifully!
+ironbeast6 Just saw them last night in Minneapolis. They are JUST as good as they were when they started. Fantastic show!
Argh! Can't wait to see them!!
I remember thinking their sound was so exclusively raw. Today I find it almost polished. 🤔
some of the best guitar playing of any band ever
DITTO on Mario Valente's comment: "Rhythm section that will dropkick your ass to fucking Mars"
Great lyrics. Great vocals, melodic bass, shredding guitar...Great band. Alien monster playing drums from another planet. This song is my happy place.
Such an amazing band and really nice guys as well. It was a pleasure meeting them after a gig in Birmingham many moons back..
Living colour was soooooo way far advanced for their time. Their music is great, even nowadays, you can still feel that the music they´ve made can be compared with music from the present.
Love coming back and back to the brilliant Living colour, one of the best rock bands from the 90's, still timeless, true perfection ❤
Still remember a late Saturday night back in 88, I was up watching this Alternative video show and then THIS Video came on and everything changed!!
30 years later and VIVID is still one of my all time favorite albums
I remember in '83ish, these guys and th cranberries were the first live bands on MTV. Ya, I dropped my fork... Rock on guys!
You need to reassess the year you’ve given in this comment
83? living colour was formed in 84, the cranberries in 89
I love this song! Used to listen to it all the time on cassette!
One of the first self taught songs I learnt.
Bought this on release and loved it!
Saw them in 1990 too.
FANTASTIC BAND, On Record, LIVE ANYWHERE!!!!!!
Love them and 24/7 spyz. And I’m a white guy that’s 61. People. Killer music is killer music. THEY ROCK!
cool 24/7 spyz yea thats a blast from the past wow
I first saw both at the same time on Headbanger's Ball, "Cult of personality" and "Stuntman".
I'm sensing RATM ore one of the members being inspired by this band
Ophiuchus123456789 it's true..
Tom Morello is a fan, specially of Vernon.
What a band and when you see them live like I did a couple years ago, everybody excels but man oh man that drummer.
@Chuichupachichi My favorite is the ride cymbal and hi-hat work during the chorus and bridge. Ever since I heard that type of stuff, I've been using it my own drum work. The whole band is just so damn talented.
I saw them open for the Stones. Great, hard rocking band. It's a joke that they are not in the Rock Hall of Fame.
O show mais pesado e detonante que eu fui na minha vida! Volume 11/10🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊
In those years, the bassist was Muzz Skillings, and Living Colour was making music.
Consistently best videos on MTV of that era, no “dumbest common denominator” disposable pop crap. Always thought provoking, thinking man’s band w a plan. Only saw then once but it was killer. That drum fill at 140 is absolutely a ground breaking fill at the time and it still is the ÷&$*# today! Mr Calhoun!
Just now discovered this genius band. Lead man is totally gorgeous and amazing and rocks the truth! Can't get enough now. All band members fantastic
I bought this album this was my favorite of the vivid album
.
The best! From Vivid, to Time's Up, to Stain... I could go on. They just get better and better. Check out their latest album - Shade.
Oh man Stain was fantastic too!
Hung out with them. The coolest band of guys.
that voice damn !!!!!
Love the guitar sustain.
Yes ... If you don't know mic Jagger put this band on the map ... Yes the stones ... They deserve much more credit ... I am middleman..
I am just hearing that now. I heard it was chuck d. But i think they put themselves there!
Cindy Mckee ....Ofcourse My company has been named Middle Man for over thirty years .. Fun .. stay safe ... 🤙🦾😷
Saw them live in Zürich Volkshaus. The hemp-smoke made me almost pass out. Even Corey Glover sugested some people to take it easy with the joints.
I mean, it's a once in a lifetime kinda thing, weed is probably just the beggining of everything i'd take there lol i can't blame them
No need to call names. The band Is what WE like . Lovin it.
Just really good, straight up Rock n Roll. This song shows off the rhythm section & with Vernon Reid's bad ass riff & guitar work, its still one of the coolest Rock songs ever. Of course, you can never go wrong with Black vocals
Especially when the song spawns from a very rough point in the life of Corey himself!
Gah!! I would love to see these guys live! They're 1 ov my last 4 on my "to see live" list.......keep rocking Living Colour \,,/
Living Colour is without a doubt one of the best bands of all time...damn did they make a bad song? I think I bought every album they produced 20+ years ago and after not hearing them for 10+ years I started thinking about them and pulled this up. So many awesome song!!!
Shade!!
Glamour Boys, is not my favorite song ever
This Is Living Colour's 1st Ever Music Video Debut!
+Vaughn Baskin I thought it was Cult. I guess it was the first video I've seen in 1987-88.
at least 3 great albums...worth a listen.
This Rage has more machine on it, this band is so underrated just discovered them recently.
Vernon Reid was carved from a Granite Boulder of Guitar masters.
Just seen LC a week ago in my home town (Newcastle UK) and they’re as good as ever
Fantastic tune love it 🔥🤟🏻😎❤️

William Calhoun is beyond amazing!

Love me some LC. I saw Cult of Personality on MT2 when I was a teenager (only about 10 years ago) and I was hooked. I got to see them live cause they'd gotten back together. Awesome band.

Ironic Vernon Reid is not a middle man he's a legitimate top gun & it's a shame he's not acknowledged !!🎸
I hereby acklowledge Sir Vernon!
I would love to see Vernon Reid and Jesse Johnson (the time) do a twin guitar song.
Back in 1988, they were really bringing kick ass guitar to funky songs.

"I'm just a stranger in a strange land", it sounds like the life we're all going through at the minute with all the changes and breakdowns that are going on in our societies. Never has a truer phrase been spoken huh?.

Standing on a fine line between this and that
@doabaudio living color was considered grunge, they were one of the first african american bands to emerge in the 80;s and they didnt care what everybody else said, they showed that everyone can rock hard, and thats just what they did.
One of my regrets i was in NY with new music seminar in 1988 i could of seen them at cbgb's instead i went to irving plaza to see a couple of punk bands that i don't remember
Awesome Rock Band!!
Amazing!
It's funny, I had this on the turntable just a couple days ago after hearing that Calhoun had walked-in off the street and donated $650 to WBAI during their pledge drive. One of the best jams in the entire Living Coulour catalog.
Audio starts at 0:09. Good rock and roll.
Cult of Personality was a more well known song but this one was always my favorite by them
I'm going to create a new law: Javier's Law of Band Ratings: whenever people are discussing a band, someone will inevitably say that the band is "underrated."
Lol true, I have read "underrated" under videos of band like Metallica or Red Hot Chili Peppers
