HERE ARE THE FACTS: The great legends of color in his era: BB King - Jackie Wilson - James Brown were there to witness Elvis‘ creativity. He was a one-of-a-kind super talent that grew up in the black community during the Great Depression and segregation in the deep South. Born in 1935 in a shack his father built (no electricity or plumbing). His twin brother died at birth. The Presleys were so poor that they buried his stillborn twin brother in a shoe box. So Elvis experienced the depths of poverty from the day he was literally born. He grew up playing with black friends on the streets and in black and white southern Baptist churches, in the poorest mixed and black neighborhoods in Tupelo -- a potentially deadly activity back in the 1940s-60s down South. Elvis' support for the civil rights movement was real and is not known by the greater population in America. The new Elvis 2022 movie examined this part. This is why almost all black musicians from that era absolutely loved Elvis because he was able to take that Memphis sound all around the country and then the world. Little Richard credited Elvis Presley multiple times for opening up the door for black music and creating a path that he could travel and so he could make his mark. Clearly a terribly racist time Elvis put poverty and racial socialization on his platform. But he did it all through Music and his behind the scenes actions alone. He never got political I think that’s what actually made him so powerful and able to succeed. FAMOUS QUOTES BY THE MOST KNOWN BLACK MEN and WOMEN OF THE 1940s-80s and beyond WHO ACTUALLY KNEW ELVIS: JOHN LEE HOOKER - "Elvis was a really good friend of mine.... He was the king." -- John Lee Hooker MUHAMMAD ALI - 'Elvis was my close personal friend. He had a robe made for me. I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know. We must understand, Elvis did lot for poor people, he cared for people, he had a good heart, he just wasn't a person who was great with talent, but he was great in spirit and with God in his heart. I wouldn't praise nobody if he don't deserve it, because I am the greatest of all time in boxing, in boxing. I said boxing ! But I'm telling you, I'm Black, I'm a Islamic, I'm 100% different from you. But I’ll tell the world Elvis was the greatest of all time. I'm a Muslim who's black who stands up for what he believes. And when I say that, believe me I should know'. -- BB KING The "GODFATHER OF SOUL" JAMES BROWN: “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him … I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There will never be another like that Soul Brother”. During Elvis' private family wake, James was the LAST ONE TO LEAVE. 3 hours and 30 minutes later -- it took several of his security guards to help him out of the room. James was devastated -- James and Elvis sang Gospel together many a night to all hours of the morning at each others' homes. James Brown was considered family by the Presleys they were so close. JACKIE WILSON: "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied from Elvis." --- JACKIE WILSON (Elvis quietly paid for Jackie's medical expenses until the day he passed away in 1977. Before Jackie's stage accident he would carry a small signed photo of Elvis in his pants pocket. Every day, bar none.) RANDY JACKSON (of the Jackson 5): "Elvis used Rock and Roll music to bridge the gap between whites and minorities. He was a wonderful person." LITTLE RICHARD "He sung my Tootie Fruti & by him singing it, made it bigger & made ME bigger" And then he said: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”- Little Richard CISSY HOUSTON: "Elvis loved gospel music. He was raised on it. And he really did know what he was talking about. He was singing Gospel all the time - almost anything he did had that flavor. You can't get away from what your roots are." - Cissy Houston (The Sweet Inspirations co-founder & member & sang vocals for Elvis, also mother of Whitney Houston)
I think some people need to realize that this is not Living Colour making an Elvis hate song or anything. Just had to get that out there. Love the song!
It's not. they're saying don't make money of Elvis' good name saying he's alive when he's obviously not. Bit like the Church saying Jesus lives when he never did.
@@Hellwyck it’s not the church saying Christ lived, it’s literally every historian ever existed. He did live, that’s not up for debate. Whether he died and then lived again, that’s what is super debatable.
@@Hellwyck It's both. Elvis is dead (literal), so stop making up stupid tabloid stories. Elvis is dead (metaphorical) the white fandom that embraced his music and cult of persoanlity but not the black roots that it came from is dead too. "I've got a reason to believe, we all won't be received, at Graceland (No not you my brother!)... it's pretty damn clear and I'm kind of realizing after all these years that some folk heard that plain as day and some folk couldn't hear it at all.
Exactly, it's making fun of the conspiracy theories & not trashing Elvis and also, yes, there were some CRAZY souvenirs being sold!...For a long time after Elvis died, there were a lot of people who didn't think he was dead, that's the joke, and that's what they're talking about, today you can still find an occassional article or site saying he's still alive, in fact there's people who do not think Jim Morrision from The Doors is dead, however, there were A LOT more "National Enquirer" type magazines w/headlines saying Elvis was alive. I also know of a couple of other songs that have "Elvis is dead" in the title from the 80s & early 90s.
"He went through the test, he's outta this mess/Be my guest and let him rest!" I quote those lyrics anytime the media scrounges around for whatever dirt is left about Elvis/Marilyn Monroe/JFK/Princess Diana.
Living Colour=Awesome Little Richard=Legend Little Richard appearing in a Living Colour song/video...If I can quote Little Rich himself, Whooo Baby, I just felt my big toe rise!

This band made at least three of the greatest albums in rock history Stain, Time's Up, and Vivid, the best song about the 9/11 attacks (Flying), and one of the best live rock albums ever made (The Paris Concert). Growing up in the 80s I was a huge Midnight Oil and U2 fan and then I saw the music video for Middle Man. Living Colour had a huge impact on my life.
They weren't "underrated" back in the day....they just quit. I remember quite a few positive reviews and record/CD sales for them in post 93, then they stopped after the True Lies soundtrack in 94. They are still around after they re-grouped in 2000 and have two very good CD out that you should look into. But don't assume that because you haven't heard too much about them Now that they were not appreciated, they were.

Clearly a terribly racist time Elvis put poverty and racial socialization on his platform. But he did it all through Music and his behind the scenes actions alone. He never got political I think that’s what actually made him so powerful and able to succeed.
FAMOUS QUOTES BY THE MOST KNOWN BLACK MEN and WOMEN OF THE 1940s-80s and beyond WHO ACTUALLY KNEW ELVIS:
JOHN LEE HOOKER - "Elvis was a really good friend of mine.... He was the king." -- John Lee Hooker
MUHAMMAD ALI - 'Elvis was my close personal friend. I don't have to say what I don't feel, I'm not false, I don't have to say this. I have no Bosses. I'm free. He to me, is one of the greatest singers, actors and all round men of all time.” ~ "THE GREATEST" MUHAMMAD ALI.
BB KING: 'Let me tell you the definitive truth about Elvis Presley and racism', The King of the Blues, B.B. King said in 2010. 'With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know'. -- BB KING
The "GODFATHER OF SOUL" JAMES BROWN: “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother.
Every day, bar none.)
RANDY JACKSON (of the Jackson 5): "Elvis used Rock and Roll music to bridge the gap between whites and minorities. He was a wonderful person."
LITTLE RICHARD "He sung my Tootie Fruti & by him singing it, made it bigger & made ME bigger" And then he said: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”- Little Richard
CISSY HOUSTON: "Elvis loved gospel music.
MEGA--If Corey is singing, I'm listening! Guys are unreal!
Bought the album when it came out on vinyl. This song is better than I remembered
Happy Birthday Elvis 2023 !
I think some people need to realize that this is not Living Colour making an Elvis hate song or anything. Just had to get that out there. Love the song!
Truth
Elvis was a hero to most
But that's beside the point
A Black man taught him how to sing
And then he was crowned king
It’s a Zombie Elvis hate song.
It seemed more like a "Let Elvis rest in peace and stop cashing in on him" song
Little Richard knew Elvis personally, he wouldn't have contributed to this song if it had been an Elvis bashing song.
i love this band!!!
i like how this band tells how we as people idolize certain people
It's not.
they're saying don't make money of Elvis' good name saying he's alive when he's obviously not.
The real king of rock.. Mr. Chuck Berry.. architect of rock Little Richard ..Godmother of rock sister Rosetta Thorpe.
Yeah they 3 loved Elvis, some black people now are crazy about it
Thank You for this Song.
...didn't realize Maceo Parker was on this track... Top shelf!
Yup, Maceo blow yo horn!
Elvis has left the building!"
("Elvis deixou o prédio!").
I don't think the point of this song was to trash Elvis, dudes.
Nope, the point was to make fun of the fact that there were so many people making money off his name and likeness. Such as with Elvis toilet seats.
Excellent tune 😎❤️
"He went through the test, he's outta this mess/Be my guest and let him rest!" I quote those lyrics anytime the media scrounges around for whatever dirt is left about Elvis/Marilyn Monroe/JFK/Princess Diana.
I love this song
Still slaps!
I LOVE THIS
The same band that created "Cult of personality" ... everything makes sense
Awesome bass lines
i love elvis ! - and i also like the song from living colour -
Awesome song & never gets old!
Living Colour=Awesome
Little Richard=Legend
Little Richard appearing in a Living Colour song/video...If I can quote Little Rich himself, Whooo Baby, I just felt my big toe rise!
I'm sick and tired of black people disrespecting Elvis although he was too kind to them ...I LOVE black artists but u need give Elvis due respect ...He was the greatest in his time no matter what u say ...He was infeluenced by some black artists but this doesn't make them better than him ..MJ was infeluenced by many white artists and then became greater
Yo Corey Man... You guys GOTTA play this on this TOUR with Extreme... PLEEZE & Thank YOU!!
I didn't know this song existed! It's freakin' fantastic! "ELVIS esta muerto!"...
I love do love this. But much more I love the way ‘type’ comes straight in within half a second of it ending. (On the album)
Always loved these guys. Black version of RHCP.❤️
No advertisement.... YES!
underappreciated living colour. how many more songs/groups/artists are out there that are unknown.
Common people,Elvis isn't dead,he just left the building. ;-)
Why are you targeting people who aren't rare?
Oh, sorry... by the way it's spelt COME ON or C'MON, not COMMON.
I sent this to a 55 year old black man yesterday. He is still crying.
Love it
is this a man maceo(!) from latter part free blowing?
then is good
Wow, I kinda Love this! What a singer, whew!
As far as I’m concerned, any band that’s made it into a GTA soundtrack has proven their value.
Funky as hell...thanks guys.
HELL YEAH LIL RICHARD SPITTIN OUT RAPS LIKE JAY ZZZ
That's cool. Bananas and peanut butter in the shopping cart.
💞💖💕💓💗❤ Living Colour 😀
CM Punk introduced me to this band...i'm 27...i really missed out man...but thats what I love about music..always some new amazing band you've never heard and can dive totally into. Every song I'm hearing is amazing as all hell.
Elvis aint dead, he just left the building
these guys are my favourite band-they absolutely killed it!!
THIIS MUSIC STILL LIFE🤘🇵🇱😊
Elvis was a hero to most
But that's beside the point
a recall to "fight the power"
...which Chuck D has repeatedly retracted. He got that one badly wrong but The King had the last laugh.
I didn't expect a to jam that hard WHOA!
1:07 even to this day, I thought that line was funny and I'm still looking for that Uptown Comedy Club skit between Monteria Ivey and Jim Breuer with the aliens and Elvis, if anybody can find it!
Wow!! :-) I forgot about Little Richards Rap!!!!
Living Colour was a great band IMO. The Stained LP was my fave (and the heaviest). I read all the comments and ask why should race even matter? Hirax, Fishbone, Sepultura? Rob Halford's gay.... If It's good, if it rocks....
*is* a great band.
Thank you.
