    This song is pretty straight forward. There was this weird period of time where people were looking for Elvis like bigfoot, and he's saying that's ridiculous people elvis is dead. The song is not anti-elvis, it's anti-stupid.

    I don't know why people freak out that they're black. If you think about it, black musicians are the perfect fit for rock. And then there was Jimmi Hendrix. Originator.

    • @RGG504

      Even before Jimmi. "Black" Blues bands paved the way for rock and roll. Rock N roll has its roots in "black" music. Although now "blacks" are associated with hip hop and rap.

      RainPoetry Hi!
      Love your position on this issue. I think that a an all black band playing music that tangents other music cathegorised as "heavy metal" is noteworthy on at least two accounts. First, the illusion of separetedness from other humans because of their skincolur and secondly because of proclaimed, by the Elite, ideas that each so called race is limited to a certain expression. Living color transcends all that. Wake up and enjoy living on this planet..

    THE LEGEND Mr BB KING spent A LOT OF TIME WITH ELVIS: 'Before Elvis we had Little Black Sambo, separate black restrooms and water fountains, and colored events that kept us away from the whites', BB King noted as he mention that Presley would attend events especially designated just for African-Americans.
    In June 1956, Presley ignored Memphis's segregation ordinances by attending 'Colored Night' at the local fairgrounds amusement park. The following December, King was there as Presley opened up almost unbreakable racial barriers by attending and supporting the segregated WDIA black radio station's annual fund-raising event for 'needy black children' at Memphis' Ellis Auditorium. King wrote in his autobiography that he 'liked Elvis. I saw him as a fellow Mississippian. I was impressed by his sincerity.
    When he came to the Goodwill Review (the event WDIA fund raisers of 1956 and 1957), he did himself proud'. 'The Goodwill Revues were important', he wrote. 'The entire black community turned out. All the DJs carried on, putting on skits and presenting good music'. In his autobiography, King said he held no grudges because 'Elvis didn't steal any music from anyone. He just had his own interpretation of the music he'd grown up on, same is true for everyone. I think Elvis had integrity'.
    'If anyone says Elvis Presley was a racist', charged B.B. King in the 2010 interview. 'Then they don't know a thing about Elvis Presley or music history. 'Many nights after we finished our sets and I'd go up to his suite', King stated. 'I'd play Lucille (on Elvis' guitar) and sing with Elvis, or we'd take turns. It was his way of relaxing'. 'I'll tell you a secret', King winked and laughed. 'We were the original Blues Brothers because that man Elvis knew more blues songs than most in the business - and after some nights it felt like we sang everyone one of them."
    'Let me tell you the definitive truth about Elvis Presley and racism', The King of the Blues, B.B. King said, 'With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know'.

    “He was a star. When I got him he was a star. Sly told you that everybody is a star. The only problem is some people haven’t been put in the dipper and pulled back on the world. That’s what the answer is. You got to be placed into the dipper and pulled back down on the world, and then men will see your good works and glorify god, Jehovah.” RIP Sir

    People are really arguing that this is a diss song about Elvis? Really? What about the line "Elvis was a hero to most but that's besides the point." The line "Elvis was a hero to most" comes from "Fight the Power" by Public Enemy, "Elvis was a hero to most but he never meant shit to me you see". Corey uses the first part of that line to say that it doesn't matter what he was to someone in particular. This is about living off the dead, that's it. Listen to what Little Richard says here.

    HERE ARE THE FACTS: The great legends of color in his era: BB King - Jackie Wilson - James Brown were there to witness Elvis‘ creativity. He was a one-of-a-kind super talent that grew up in the black community during the Great Depression and segregation in the deep South. Born in 1935 in a shack his father built (no electricity or plumbing). His twin brother died at birth. The Presleys were so poor that they buried his stillborn twin brother in a shoe box.
    So Elvis experienced the depths of poverty from the day he was literally born. He grew up playing with black friends on the streets and in black and white southern Baptist churches, in the poorest mixed and black neighborhoods in Tupelo -- a potentially deadly activity back in the 1940s-60s down South. Elvis' support for the civil rights movement was real and is not known by the greater population in America.
    The new Elvis 2022 movie examined this part. This is why almost all black musicians from that era absolutely loved Elvis because he was able to take that Memphis sound all around the country and then the world. Little Richard credited Elvis Presley multiple times for opening up the door for black music and creating a path that he could travel and so he could make his mark.
    Clearly a terribly racist time Elvis put poverty and racial socialization on his platform. But he did it all through Music and his behind the scenes actions alone. He never got political I think that’s what actually made him so powerful and able to succeed.
    FAMOUS QUOTES BY THE MOST KNOWN BLACK MEN and WOMEN OF THE 1940s-80s and beyond WHO ACTUALLY KNEW ELVIS:
    JOHN LEE HOOKER - "Elvis was a really good friend of mine.... He was the king." -- John Lee Hooker
    MUHAMMAD ALI - 'Elvis was my close personal friend. He had a robe made for me. I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know. We must understand, Elvis did lot for poor people, he cared for people, he had a good heart, he just wasn't a person who was great with talent, but he was great in spirit and with God in his heart. I wouldn't praise nobody if he don't deserve it, because I am the greatest of all time in boxing, in boxing. I said boxing ! But I'm telling you, I'm Black, I'm a Islamic, I'm 100% different from you. But I’ll tell the world Elvis was the greatest of all time. I'm a Muslim who's black who stands up for what he believes. I don't have to say what I don't feel, I'm not false, I don't have to say this. I have no Bosses. I'm free. He to me, is one of the greatest singers, actors and all round men of all time.” ~ "THE GREATEST" MUHAMMAD ALI.
    BB KING: 'Let me tell you the definitive truth about Elvis Presley and racism', The King of the Blues, B.B. King said in 2010. 'With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know'. -- BB KING
    The "GODFATHER OF SOUL" JAMES BROWN: “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him … I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There will never be another like that Soul Brother”. During Elvis' private family wake, James was the LAST ONE TO LEAVE. 3 hours and 30 minutes later -- it took several of his security guards to help him out of the room. James was devastated -- James and Elvis sang Gospel together many a night to all hours of the morning at each others' homes. James Brown was considered family by the Presleys they were so close.
    JACKIE WILSON: "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied from Elvis." --- JACKIE WILSON (Elvis quietly paid for Jackie's medical expenses until the day he passed away in 1977. Before Jackie's stage accident he would carry a small signed photo of Elvis in his pants pocket. Every day, bar none.)
    RANDY JACKSON (of the Jackson 5): "Elvis used Rock and Roll music to bridge the gap between whites and minorities. He was a wonderful person."
    LITTLE RICHARD "He sung my Tootie Fruti & by him singing it, made it bigger & made ME bigger" And then he said: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”- Little Richard
    CISSY HOUSTON: "Elvis loved gospel music. He was raised on it. And he really did know what he was talking about. He was singing Gospel all the time - almost anything he did had that flavor. You can't get away from what your roots are." - Cissy Houston (The Sweet Inspirations co-founder & member & sang vocals for Elvis, also mother of Whitney Houston)

      It's not.
      they're saying don't make money of Elvis' good name saying he's alive when he's obviously not.
      Bit like the Church saying Jesus lives when he never did.

    • @marcomonaldi9058
      @marcomonaldi9058 Год назад

      @@Hellwyck it’s not the church saying Christ lived, it’s literally every historian ever existed. He did live, that’s not up for debate. Whether he died and then lived again, that’s what is super debatable.

    • @stuntmonkey00
      @stuntmonkey00 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Hellwyck It's both. Elvis is dead (literal), so stop making up stupid tabloid stories. Elvis is dead (metaphorical) the white fandom that embraced his music and cult of persoanlity but not the black roots that it came from is dead too. "I've got a reason to believe, we all won't be received, at Graceland (No not you my brother!)... it's pretty damn clear and I'm kind of realizing after all these years that some folk heard that plain as day and some folk couldn't hear it at all.

    • @RastaSaiyaman
      @RastaSaiyaman 7 лет назад +26

      Nope, the point was to make fun of the fact that there were so many people making money off his name and likeness. Such as with Elvis toilet seats.

    • @leighgarrett285
      @leighgarrett285 7 лет назад +13

      Exactly, it's making fun of the conspiracy theories & not trashing Elvis and also, yes, there were some CRAZY souvenirs being sold!...For a long time after Elvis died, there were a lot of people who didn't think he was dead, that's the joke, and that's what they're talking about, today you can still find an occassional article or site saying he's still alive, in fact there's people who do not think Jim Morrision from The Doors is dead, however, there were A LOT more "National Enquirer" type magazines w/headlines saying Elvis was alive. I also know of a couple of other songs that have "Elvis is dead" in the title from the 80s & early 90s.

    Una de mis bandas favoritas "de siempre". Con esta canción cargada de matices vocales y rítmicos: mezclando heavy, hard y rasgos de otros subgéneros del rock unidos a la maestria de las cuerdas vocales de Corey Glover: combina los pasajes de la canción con una "pasmosa naturalidad"; la guitarra afinada en tono medio con un sonido perfecto en los riff y las partes en las que interviene con acento distorsionado;la batería es genial con un sonido metálico y ligeramente "seco y destemplado": un sonido muy difícil de "sacar a la percusión bien tocada" crea un ambiente perfecto; el bajo "toca las 4 cuerdas" de una manera totalmente acoplada con la percusión; el saxo está en unos agudos geniales que es una parte "integral" del ritmo base: no es un simple adorno..... Y la participación especial?... Alguien puede ofrecer más?.... O es solo mi opinión?.... Ustedes que piensan sobre esta banda?....

    This band made at least three of the greatest albums in rock history Stain, Time's Up, and Vivid, the best song about the 9/11 attacks (Flying), and one of the best live rock albums ever made (The Paris Concert).
    Growing up in the 80s I was a huge Midnight Oil and U2 fan and then I saw the music video for Middle Man. Living Colour had a huge impact on my life.

    Desde mi punto de vista, lo que entiendo que dice la canción es que le hicieron muchísima fama a Elvis incluso cuando estaba muerto y la banda en su opinión cree que hay muchos artistas de esa época que son mejores y tiene razón encima esos artistas eran de piel negra pero como en esa etapa de la historia estadounidense existía el racismo, muchos de esos artistas no fueron valorados como debieron serlo. Para mí más que nada es como una crítica hacia el racismo más allá de que mencione a Elvis

    • @alangabrielzurdo6174
      @alangabrielzurdo6174 9 лет назад +4

      Además Elvis se hizo conocido como muchísimos artistas por ser una persona de piel blanca que hacía música creada por la gente de piel oscura. De hecho lo mejor de la música fue creada por los africanos y se los debemos; en vez de actuar de manera racista hacía esa gente deberíamos estar agradecidos por la música maravillosa que crearon y que muchos blancos utilizaron y la modificaron para hacerse conocidos

    They weren't "underrated" back in the day....they just quit.
    I remember quite a few positive reviews and record/CD sales for them in post 93, then they stopped after the True Lies soundtrack in 94. They are still around after they re-grouped in 2000 and have two very good CD out that you should look into. But don't assume that because you haven't heard too much about them Now that they were not appreciated, they were.
