  • Tools of the Trade: #1 Blacksmith's Tweezers- a good substitute for forging tongs
    In this video I am showing you how to make a pair of large tweezers that can be good substitute for forging tongs. Making them requires much less skill then making tongs, which can be a challenging project for the beginner blacksmith.
    If you decide to make some tweezers following this video, please, send me some picture of them so I can showcase your work in upcoming videos.

      Thanks! They have limited application but there are certain things that they are excellent for.
      I removed all my comments from your video. I am sorry to flood your comment section with pointless arguments.
      On another note are you interested in a challenge?

    Excellent, informative, instructive video. Please consider making instructional videos showing how to make the other 2 types of tweezers shown in the video at the end. Especially the heavy duty pair. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills. These will definitely go on my "TO MAKE" list.

      Thanks for the nice comments. I might do another video about the other tweezers for my Patreon page (once I launched it), but for now I have other ideas that I am working on. If you have any questions regarding the topic just leave it in the comment section and I'll try to answer it.

    Very nice! Never thought about something like that, but I can definitely see them being handy in my shop for a lot of the little things I make. Next time I light the forge.....

    awesome ill be trying this tho can i use copper nails instead of rivets?

    • @DesertOwlForge
      @DesertOwlForge  3 года назад

      I think so. Make sure the holes are tight so you don't have play in the copper rivets.

    I have made tongs, but what a pain, these look a lot easier. I will make some soon.

    • @DesertOwlForge
      @DesertOwlForge  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Tom, yes, making tongs is a lot of work. Now days, shame or not, I use tong blanks and just finish the jaw part. It takes about 30 minutes. The tweezers are a good and easy to make option but cannot substitute tongs in heavier operations.

    What size material are the Heavy Duty tongs made from ? Also how big is the handle end around and what is the gap ?? i can do this will send pics
    thank you

    • @DesertOwlForge
      @DesertOwlForge  5 лет назад +1

      Ray, the heavy duty tweezers are made from 3/8" x 1/2" flat stock. The "spring ring" at the handle is around 4" OD and the overall length is 20". The gap between the prongs is about 3/8". I hope this helped. I am looking forward getting your pictures.

    What is "flex" stock?

    • @DesertOwlForge
      @DesertOwlForge  5 лет назад

      I don't know. I think you misheard "flat stock". It is made from 1/8" x 3/4" mild steel.
