- Extending a 6" steel water well casing using an arc welder. Before the invention of a fitting called a "Pitless Adaptor", wells in areas that have freezing weather had the "well head" left several feet below grade to protect the water line from freezing. There was no standard to the construction of the well pit or how the water line for the well pump was to be installed. Commonly pits were made with galvanized coverts with concrete lids, concrete block or just buried out right. The problem with having a well head in a pit is that is susceptible to surface water entering the well with bacteria and other contaminates. Locating and servicing the well is more difficult in a pit. When a well head sticks out of the ground (12"-18" is a good hight) it is much easier to service and much less likely to be influenced by surface water. In most municipalities today a pitless adaptor is required to meet local building code.

Came for the video... stayed to see if the camera man was going to die of a heart attack during filming.
Not the only one havin' a heart attack - 3:45 when the nice helpful fellow slides an untethered pipe into the well casing opening I'm shouting at my computer monitor "hold on to that buddy!"
I saw that too lol@@niceride
i can hear the wheezing of the camera guy!
Please remake this video. It looked like exactly what I was looking for but I can't handle the breathing. Hope he's ok!

I'm impressed with your ability to work within that pit. Nice job. How deep was that pump? Sincerely, Fat Well Driller.
I dont understand why guys dont put a T on the top of the Pitless adapter bar so no chance to ever fall down hole if you slip or sneeze or anything. If you drop that you are out big bucks
