A year ago when I was in university I had a professor who talked about the history of cars. The subject was called history of automotive industry. We loved it. Every week he was bringing an oldtimer in perfect condition and we were allowed to drive with it etc.
Hey first thanks for such good amazing sketches you have done to awaken our eyes in what some ,we thought it couldn't get no better, and some we did think about what if they redesign it, you bring our thoughts to life on paper, we like all that you do, please continue to do more...thanks...
Omg.. I love this, i'm a big big fan of old mercedes cars especially the 190 and the w140 this is just.. woww i want this car.. Would be awesome if the car companies did this kind of stuff.
I really like this! It is significantly different whilst still being recognisable. You went to a great effort to change the doors and windows and everything, and it paid off. Looks like an actual 190E-inspired concept car MB would make. Bravo!
I would buy that redesign. Challenge: You should create a video series that re-imagines iconic cars as if they were created by a different manufacturer. For instance: What if the Nissan z a was created by BMW instead?
You're right Sketch the 190E has aged well and still looks great. I bet it's a bargain on the used car market, too. Best news, you killed the redesign tweaking - nicely done man.
1 suggestion. I believe it would look better if the front bumber was a little lower to the ground. Keeping in mind that this would be a modern car it would need to look sportier and since the old 190E wasn't that sporty looking,I believe being a little lower would do the trick cuz this way it looks like a mid-SUV
Doesn’t work at all. Grill needs to be traditional, the sport grill looks completely out of place. Lower grill openings are too big and look like aftermarket. Mirrors completely clash with the rest of the design. Chopping roof is cheating, because any car looks better with a lower roof, but is completely impractical from a production car perspective.
@rasa porosangue these cars are already lower than many of the cars on the road today, I always complain about light blinding me exactly because of this, most people may not notice, but these cars sit as low as a sports car lol.
I would buy this car! I love how “resto-mods” look like they could be electric cars. Only thing I would do differently is maybe reduce the front intake height more so it’s not 50/50 with the lights; and lower the car or have bigger body kit.
Will be a great succes if Mercedes comes with a car like this as an Electric car.( only another front grille). Production costs should be low with by putting a simple interior, dash panels and just make sure to put the latest infotainment system into it..
It was, but a lot of people misunderstand the 190E because of this. They compare it to the M3 (or the normal 3 series it doesn't matter all that much), which was a sport sedan, but the 190E was a compact luxury car. That's still a problem to this day, comparing Mercedeses with BMWs and Audis since they make quite a different cars that just cost and look about the same
@@mafus6116 That does make sense actually. I guess they were compared to one another due to the competitiveness of both companies and the overall audience appreciation of both astonishing vehicles... or maybe people just loved the hype of BMW and Mercedes clashing one another with two amazing cars, regardless of the specs and interior/exterior features.
@@santoku2027 yes i admit... I love both, the E30 and the 190E (I actually own one). Would be interesting how the rear end would look in your design. Generally my 2 biggest problems with the current models outside design is the grill (going away from the classical grill and ditching the 3 pointed star on the hood in favor of a huge one in the grill) and the rear lights. The current rear lights make me mistake them with the current Alfa sedan from afar. Not something any previous C-class has done. (they had rear lights that were easily distinguishable as mercedes for me.) But even more than that, on the inside, the obnoxious huge tablet instead of the well working buttons and push pull wheel HMI are keeping me way more from buying one than my gripes with the outside design. (For generations Mercedes interiour was easy to use, and if you ever have used one, the next gen was as easy to use. Then suddenly they switched the position of the blinker lever with the cruise control lever "just to make me nuts" and then ditched the later completely for buttons on a steering wheel... completely ignorin former cutomers in hope for new ones.)

Very eloquent and explicit 'tour d'horizon' of the design development of Mercedes cars. I still have a 1986er 190E (designed by the Italian Bruno Sacco shown at 2:28) because of its straight lines instead of 'hunback' boot (trunk). The 'bumper integration' shown atg 0:39 shows the U.S. version which is bigger and not so elegant as the European one, as sit comes too close to the front grille. This also goes for the bumpers of the larger models (280) which had to absorb impacts at a speed on 5 km/h. The 2001 model with the 'flat headlights' are not really an update of the previous model shown in the middle at 4:34. One detail which I find important: the 190 (Serien W-201) is the last Mercedes where the 'star' is incorporated on top of the front grille and not haphardly placed somewhere on the bonne (hood) with no connection to the grille, making it look a bit 'fornlorn'. The pronounced wheel cases of the fenders look like 'hipüs' having accumulated unnessesary 'fat'. The grille of the 2022 model is not really elegant. Black plastic with silver 'nails' with a too big and conspicuous star. I also prefe a 'smiling grille' rather than a 'frowning' one. Also the shape of the Aston Martin grille (adopted by Ford cars) is quite nice. Last remark: a few centimeters more for rear passengers would not have been a bad idea. Now I'm waiting for an analogous version of design comparison of Jaguar models.
